I think I adopted an alien cat 👽

I'm going to tell you all a story, in an attempt to immortalize one of the few anecdotes that my dad voluntarily told me about his life that I can remember. This is the story of the cat who loved lettuce.

So, my dad took care of frankly an absurd amount of cats (and other animals, but so many cats) throughout his younger years. He was a professional gardener and occasional house sitter, and that involved a lot of pet sitting apparently?

One time, he either was taking care of some people's group of cats or temporarily living with the people with the cats, I can't really remember. Most of these cats were normal, regular cats. One time, as a joke, he tried giving them a leaf of lettuce, just to see if they'd be interested in it. Naturally, they were a bit curious, but quickly turned up their noses at it and lost interest.

Then one cat who was hanging around the back of the group comes up, sniffs it, and snatches the leaf up in his teeth and bolts under the table. Once under there, he hunkers down with the leaf between his paws and starts growling/hissing at the other cats when they get curious and try to come up to see what he's got.

This cat, with a lettuce leaf between his paws, hissing and growling from under the table at another cat who just looks at him like he's fuckin crazy. One of them tried to come up to him even with the hissing and got swatted at and hissed at some more, so they just left him alone.

He was sitting under that table, nibbling at the lettuce leaf and growling in between bites, valiantly and viciously defending his leaf from the other cats, who, in fact, genuinely did not give a fuck. Once he ate the whole leaf he chilled out. And from that point on my dad and his owners sometimes gave him a leaf of lettuce just to see him go fuckin nuts over it lmao.

And I reiterate, none of the other cats cared. At all. He just had zero chill when it came to lettuce, of all things, and was otherwise a perfectly pleasant and calm cat.
