Prepping for the #WorkingWeek with an excellent #SherryBomb. The #kavalan #solist always delivers and the sherry cask is excellent value. Fruity sweetness dominates while slight sulfar notes develop as the vapour hits your palate and is quickly drowned out by raisin and sherry sweetness with ginger spice that floats by ever so slightly with dark chocolate notes. The OLD Old Pulteney 12! A wonderful entry level aged single malt. The nose is light, clean with a gentle whiff of spice dancing with sweet medicinal notes with hints of coastal saltiness. The palate, beautifully balanced with toffee and caramel sweetness, gentle peppery spice with salty notes. Finish I found short with hints of sweetness and oak. The newer release is a solid bottling too, though I did find the peppery notes to be stronger and less of the coastal notes. I prefer the older release. Have you tried both? Oban 14 and Talisker Skye, two coastal distilleries with very different profiles. Both have sweetness as base. Talisker is more fruity while the Oban has sugary sweetness. Sharing a similar profile to its highly awarded full proof sibling but the #1792 small batch comes without the price tag. Minty and vanillin on the nose with peppery spice coming first on the palate with sweet vanilla notes are always present. The finish brought with it your typical oak notes accompanied by hints of bubblegum. Toasted bourbon to round out the weekend. The #Michters Toasted barrel finished bourbon is a seriously good whiskey. Caramel, vanilla and maple syrup circle the nose. To cut through the sweetness there are notes of toasted bread. Palate brings a touch of citrus continually swirling with chocolate and vanilla. Mid palate the spices build up with cinnamon and cloves combined with hints of smoke.
