4 Goals For Weekend Dads Over 40
I just turned 44 years old and I've been performing stand up comedy for 4 years. Fuck a midlife crisis.
In my last post I discussed how frustrated I was with my progress in comedy and thought about quitting. I caught myself and said, ‘there's progress and I'm going towards my goals.’
Once you're in your 40s you can't give up on your dreams. You still have time to reach your goals but you have to remind yourself of your goals daily and do something every day to get closer to them. In order to be good at anything, just be consistent. In order to stay consistent, you have to be working towards something and that starts with setting goals.
I've come up with a list of 4 goals that I'm working towards every day:
#7300Pushups - In order to feel good about yourself, it's important to be healthy and have a clear mind. I've taken up the challenge of #7300pushups for this year. Every morning, 20 pushups. I do pushups in my normal workouts but this is separate from that. I have an app that will keep track and show my progress.
Get Your Money Right - I made a goal to save $1000/mo. I'm buying another house so that's the main goal. I use the Mint app to track my spending and see where I can save more money. If you want to take it a step further, invest. They say you should have a certain amount in your 401k by the time you're 40 and I don't, because life.
Meditate - I'm glad I found the Headspace app for the iphone. One of my goals is to have peace of mind. I actually wrote that down.
Find A Cause - This is about me wanting to make an impact. Leaving a legacy and wanting to show my son the importance of doing for others. There's two causes that I've become passionate about:
100 Suits for 100 Men - a non-profit organization created to address the needs of underprivileged men and women in need of business attire in the New York City area. Every show I do, I'm asking for donations. I don't get many but the ones I do have, I've been able to donate
B.A.R.K (Bonnie's Animal Rescue Kingdom) - a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing abandoned, abused, and neglected pets. Bonnie does an amazing job and all volunteers take extreme care during the adoption process. They care deeply about all of these pups that they rescue.
Don't just sit around and convince yourself you're too old. You are just the right age to live and to achieve your personal greatness. Stay positive and do your thing.
If you want a better way to track your goals, use GoalsWizard on your phone. It's a paid app but it's worth it. Integrates easily with your calendar and reminders. Great app that I highly recommend.
I’m also including a link to The 21 Principles of Goal Setting by Brian Tracy to help you get started tracking your goals.
Good luck on your journey.
