You'd overslept. Of course.
On possibly the most important day of your life you overslept. You had stayed up until 3am getting everything in order for your “big” day. You couldn’t believe your ears when Trisha-your boss- told you Larissa Levingston herself had requested you as her wedding planner, you nearly keeled over in shock.
Rushing to make yourself presentable, you took a few moments to assess yourself in the mirror. You could go without washing your hair, but your bare face could definitely use some makeup. You took your time styling your hair, so it framed your face just right. Appearance was a big deal when it came to your job. You as a person, not just your “work”, sets a first impression. And this couple, especially Larissa Levingston, was used to extravagant things, she was a billionaire heiress after all.
Makeup? Check!
Hair? check!
Outfit… Still I’m progress.
You had narrowed it down to three outfits;
Stylish and chic power suit.
A black fitted skirt with a ruffled blouse and heeled boots. Or, the fitted, deep maroon, knee-length dress that hugged your curves in all the right places, complimenting your voluptuous figure. You slipped into your favorite black blazer, one that never steered you wrong and you even considered it a tad lucky.
Glancing over the finished product, you hooded at yourself in the mirror, whispering to yourself, confidence is key. You are confident. You truly felt good about today, you were ready. And you looked good too. You were about to whoop add on possibly the biggest event of your life.
I’ve got this
You grabbed your keys from the dainty ceramic bowl your niece had made you, that sat near the edge of your breakfast bar, and headed out of your small loft, locking the door behind you.
The air was frigid, the brisk breeze licking at your skin, as you stepped out into the New York winter that was in full swing. Checking the Apple Watch that adorned your wrist, you shifted into overdrive. The last thing you wanted was to be late on possibly the most important day of your life.
After a short train ride, you arrived at the office, the 16th floor of a high rise located on w 38th st. The office took up a corner of the floor-sharing the floor with an insurance company and a law firm.
You were greeted by Paula -who was your very attentive receptionist- as she handed over a handful of mail and notes.
“Thank you Paula.”
“Just a reminder, Chaz is out sick with strep, so if you need any assistance, give me a ring.”
Of course, Chaz, would be sick on thee most crucial day of your career. But you could do this with
out an assistant. You were Y/N,L/N. You had worked your ass off to get this far. Poured your blood, sweat and tears into this. You could do this. No, you were going to do this!
You tossed your mail and shoulder bag onto your desk before sinking into your padded swivel chair. You quickly put yourself to work, perusing your email, sorting into folders based on importance and time sensitivity.
You were so engrossed in your work, you were startled as your Apple Watch chimed loudly from your wrist.
15 minutes until appointment.
You silenced the reminder, taking a few moments to tidy around your office, fluffing the pillows that rested in each corner of the love seat, that claimed the south side of the office. As a finally touch, you adjusted the newest issues of bridal magazines neatly dispersed across the rose gold coffee table.
There was a soft knock at the door, Paula’s head popping through the slight open door.
“Ms.Levingston and Mr. Rogers are here. Should I send them in?”
Smoothing out your dress, as you regained your posture from the hunched over position, you took in a deep breath before flashing a light smile in her direction.
“Absolutely. Send them right in.”
You leaned against the desk, hands folded together on your lap as Paula left the room.
Seconds later, Paula was holding open the door as two unbelievably gorgeous humans walked in.
Larissa was a thin and lengthy woman. Her perfectly tanned skinned was accented by her long, thick strawberry blonde locks that were styled in a curly half updo. Her smile was bright and infectious, spreading to her warm honey brown eyes. Her arm was entangled in Steve’s, her hand resting on his toned forearm. You’d heard about Steve Rogers, butthe again… who hadn’t? He had a reputation that exceeded so many- but you’d never realized how breathtakingly handsome he was. His defined jaw was covered with a light scruff. His dreamy blue eyes met yours, sending a shiver down your spine. Your eyes quickly fell to the floor. You could still feel his gaze on you, making you feel more on edge then you already were. Clearing your throat, you pushed yourself from your desk to greet the -seemingly flawless-couple.
“Hi, my name is y/n, I am so thrilled to be working with the two of you to make your wedding dreams come true. Please take a seat.”
You directed the couple to plush love seat, grabbing the iPad from your desk.
“Can I get you two anything? Water, coffee, tea?”
“I’ll have tea if you don’t mind. Iced sweet tea with some lemon, if you have it. Anything for you baby?” Larissa’s southern drawl dripped off her tongue like warm molasses. Steve shook his head no, a faint but kind smile gracing his lips, as his gaze caught yours for a split second, causing your heart race to increase. Shifting in your seat, your body grew warm as you fidgeted with your jacket.
“I can definitely make that happen.” You used this as an opportunity to regain your composure, sending out a text to Paula, before sitting down across from the couple, one leg tucked behind the other.
You spent the next hour going over their vision for the wedding. Color schemes, theme, flowers, venue. Your mind was blossoming with ideas, you felt flutters of excitement and anticipation consuming you.
“So, do you have a set budget you’re looking to stay in?”
“Daddy said, money is of no issue. Whatever it takes.”
Steve’s eyes widened as his jaw went rigged. He looked slightly terrified, as if he had no idea what he had gotten himself into. What may have been a nightmare for him, was a dream for you. Not having a set budget was what planners dreamed of. The detail you could obtain was nearly unimaginable. It felt as though the world was playing at your fingertips.
“I’ll get started on the first steps right away. I’ll be emailing you often, as the work progresses. I’d like to meet with you both sometime next week, to your venues. When would you be available?”
“Oh dear. I’m leaving for Ukraine on Thursday. I have some mission work over there, so my sweet sweet Steve will be handling all of that-“ She wrapped her arms around Steve, giving him a squeeze and a quick peck on the cheek. “He will be my eyes, he knows what I like. And you can always email me for input of course.”
“Oh. Okay. Well I will keep you updated via email then. So when you are available Steve? I’m sure your schedule is rather. . . Hectic.”
“I’ll have to get back to you on that one. I can shoot you a text? We can text you right?”
You couldn’t help but laugh at his innocence.
“Absolutely. You both have my number. Feel free to text or call me whenever, day or night. For the next 7 months, I’m at your disposal.”
“Perfect. I’ll text you when I know. “
You showed them to the door, closing it softly behind them. Sliding into your desk chair, you let out a deep sigh, exhilaration hitting you like a swift kick to the gut.
No y/n. Absolutely not. Get yourself together. You are a professional. You’re career is your life. You can’t become lose your professional for some dreamy blue eyed man. A soon to be married blue eyed man. Get your shit together woman.
You did what you knew best, throwing yourself into your work. Within five hours, you had put together 9 color schemes, selected 14 floral arrangements for each of the venues they had picked out. You mocked up a layout for the wedding website. After thorough research, you found a few caterers and photographers that fit Larissa’s-rather extravagant- criteria.
The screen of your watch lit up with a notification as it buzzed against the home of your wrist. A text from Steve Rogers.
Steve: I am free all of next week after 8am. Given nothing comes up. Let me know the plan. Steve.
Picking up your phone from its place on your glass desk, you sent Steve a quick text back.
Y/N: Great, I’m going to make a few calls, and I will get back to you.
Steve: cool. Thanks.
After a few calls and emails sent as urgent, you had set up 4 venue tours. Not a shabby start for one day of work.
Y/N: Wednesday. If you could meet here at 10am, we will have a car to drive us to the venues, unless you prefer to drive separate, I can send you the details.
Steve: I’ll be there at 10. Please don’t torture me... too much.
You burst out in a spit of laughter, as you read his text. Clearly this wasn’t Steve’s idea of a fun time, you were fairly certain that most grooms weren’t thrilled with the whole wedding planning process, especially when they see firsthand how much it costs. You put yourself to work for a few more hours, trying to push thoughts of Steve from your mind.
This was going to be a tough 7 months.
The sun was set when you left the office, the air even colder than when you had arrived. You snuggled your jacket tight against you as you made your way for the train, ready to succumb to the sleep you so desperately needed.
Chaz sat a large cup of coffee on the desk in front of you, the rich scent billowing in clouds of steam from the lid. Cupping your hands around the paper Starbucks cup, you let the warmth seep into your hands, as goosebumps rippled over your body. One of the best feelings on the world.
“Thank you Chaz. God I really need this today.”
“I thought you loved touring venues?”
“I do! It’s one of my favorite parts of the job, but with eager brides, not reluctant grooms.”
You took a sip of the hot coffee, savoring the taste as it drizzled down your throat.
“Well, at least he’s massive eye candy. Meow.”
You rolled your eyes at Chaz, as she winked, her callous laughter trailing behind her as she left the room. Shaking your head, you collected the essential paperwork, stuffing it into your folder before placing it into your oversized bag.
Planer, check. Keys, check. Wallet, check. Phone, check.
You ran through your mental checklist once more, before settling that you indeed had everything. As you turned from facing your desk, you fell back against it, your heart skipping in your chest. A surge of adrenaline coursing through your veins, your hand resting over your chest as you keeled over trying to catch your breath.
Steve Rogers stood in the doorway, arms crossed as he leaned against the doorframe. His laughter was the sweetest thing you had ever heard. It sent a warm flush rushing through your body as bubbles popped in your belly.
“For someone so fierce looking you sure do scare easily.” Steve pushed himself from the wall, closing in on the space between you. “I’ll have to remember that. I apologize, I didn’t mean to frighten you. Your assistant said I could come in.”
“No, no it’s fine. It’s probably my biggest character flaw, startling easily. You’re lucky I didn’t scream.” Your laugh was awkward but not forced, as you hesitantly met his eyes. The flutters returned, sending blood rushing to your cheeks. You broke the eye contact, trying to collect your thoughts, before speaking. “Uh, the car is waiting if you’re ready.”
Steve nodded, extending his arm out for you to lead the way. Grabbing your jacket from the coat rack you made your way to the elevator, suddenly dreading this day more than before.
Steve didn’t let his disinterest disrupt the tours. He acted as though he truly wanted to be there, although, his eyes told a different story. He was kind and attentive, as you went into detail about your vision for the venues.
The Edison ballroom was beyond lavish. The large room was empty, the chandelier sparkling off of the glossy floor. You watched as Steve took in the view, his eyes lighting up.
“This would be the dance floor here. And we’d be doing round tables with a rectangle table for the wedding party, obviously, which would be located here.” You held out your your iPad -that had your vision sketched out as you- as you pointed around the room.
“Larissa would love this. Amazing. You are truly, very talented. I see why Larissa wanted you.”
You felt the heat rising in your cheeks as the blood rushes hot.
You quickly turned away from Steve, distancing yourself from him with a stretch of your legs. You were frantic, and you didn’t know why. You couldn’t understand your irrational behavior. What the hell was your problem?
Steve took a step in your direction, his stride smooth and eloquent, his hand light as a feather as it tapped your shoulder.
“Are you alright?”
You had to think quick on your feet, luckily for you, it was one of your best talents.
“Something got into my eye, it startled me. We’re good now.”
You put on your most believable fake smile, as you turned the attention away from your embarrassing outburst.
“So, where were we? Oh yes, tables. Over there I was thinking the cake display would be perfect. A little-“
“Speaking of cake, I could really go for some food right now. I haven’t eaten since breakfast.”
You glanced down at your watch, the time reading 12:36. You hadn’t really thought about lunch, but who were you kidding? Food sounded amazing right about now. What you wouldn’t do for some French fries.
“I, didn’t really plan for lunch, but if you think you’ve seen enough here, I suppose I could cut you loose a bit early, look over the specks and placement a little more, maybe finish up my rough sketches and we can meet back here in an hour?”
“You don’t ever stop, do you?”
Your eyes grew wide as your brow furrowed in confusion. What was he talking about?
“Wha- what do you mean?”
“You’re a busy bee. All you do is work. Don’t you ever just take a moment to breathe?”
All you could do was blink at him. No. You didn’t have time to stop and smell the roses. You were building a reputation here. And you don’t build the best rep on the east coast, by stopping to... breathe.
“My job is my life. I would think that you of all people would understand. You know, being a hero and all.”
Steve shrugged nonchalantly, his demeanor calm, cool and collected. And not to mention sexy.
“If I let my entire life circle only around being Captain America, I wouldn’t have a life worth living. Sometimes you just have to take a step back to really appreciate what you have. That being said, I’m taking you out to lunch. My treat.”
You were flabbergasted, as you stumbled over your own words, barely able to get out a comprehensive sentence.
“I- Uh- But my work.”
“Nope. It’s happening. Come along.”
Steve grabbed your wrist, where you expected his grip to be overly strong and painful, it was light, almost as if he was caressing you. It sent shockwaves coursing through veins, as warmth radiated through you. You wanted to pull away, but a part of you was thrilled by the feeling of his embrace. Against your better judgement, you let him drag you along...
The tiny cafe was hidden away in the back of a bakery. The aroma of decadent goodies made your tummy rumble. As you took your seat across from Steve at the petit circular table, you could feel your heart pounding in your throat. You suddenly felt uneasy, the urge to get up and bolt and never look back.
You gripped the menu too tight in your hands, trying to control the nervous shakes that travels through you.
This is just a meal with a client. Chill the heck out!
“Benny, two Cubans please.” Steve shouted across the small area. “Best Cuban sandwich you’ll ever have. I guarantee!”
Shyly, you glanced up from your menu. A crooked grin graced Steve’s handsome face, you thought your heart might melt.
Oh come on. . . For fucks sake!
As you contemplate running away again, a small and stout man rounded the corner, carrying two large plates that smell like heaven.
You said nothing, as you stared at the plate in front of you in awe. The sandwich was huge! It looked and smelled absolutely delicious, you could feel the excess saliva collection in your mouth.
“I’m sorry, I should have asked before I ordered. I just got excited. I’ll get Benny back-“
“No. It’s alright. This actually looks amazing! Thank you.”
You flashed Steve your award winning smile, and it was genuine. If he hadn’t ordered for you, you would have been sitting there for ages trying to decide.
Steve smiled back, a grin that spread to his eyes, forming wrinkles in the corner of his eyes.
“Larissa would kill me if she knew I was eating this, so let’s keep this between us.” He laughed before diving into his sandwich. You chuckled softly to yourself, before taking a bite yourself.
Steve’s eyes lit up, as he set his sandwich down, his gaze focused on you.
“Did I just hear a laugh? Did you just laugh?”
“Umm…” The blood rushed to your face, your sandwich falling onto the plate with a thud.
“That was a adorable. I didn’t think someone so serious actually laughed.”
Steve returned to his sandwich as if what he said would have no effect on you. Boy was her wrong. You were swooning. Over a client! And engaged client!
Thankfully, there was food in front of you, to help distract you…
After devouring the majority of your sandwich, you were craving a long nap snuggled up in your comfy bed with your favorite fuzzy blanket, and to forget about Steve Rogers for a moment, but that wasn’t going to happen, at least, not anytime soon. . .

Warnings: swears, internal conflict, wineeee
Word count: shortish.
Steve rested against the chilled brick wall, in the hallway of y/n’s loft. The sound of his heart pounding in his ears as he tried to focus. He couldn’t think straight. Every thought that seemed to pass through his mind was... irrational. He had no idea what had come over him. When he was close to y/n, her eyes wide as she looked up at him, it made his head go fuzzy. In that moment, he wanted to pull her into his arms- just to feel the warmth of her body against his. the feel of her curves in his hands. The taste of her soft lips on his. How could he be so drawn to someone he’s known for so little? He never felt this way about Larissa- and Steve knew he cared for her, but his feelings for Larissa were nothing in comparison to Y/N. Every time she looked at him, his heart felt as though it skipped a beat. The flutters in his stomach only ceasing when he was far from her sight. He’d get the attraction from the moment he laid eyes on her- although Steve wouldn’t consider himself a hopeless romantic, he did believe in knowing love when you see it, what he thought to have had with Larissa until the day he met Y/N.
Steve rustled his hands through his grown out golden locks, down to his shaggy unkept beard. Why could he get her out of his head!
Steve reaches into his pocket, pulling his phone out, Steve’s thumb hovered over the contact labeled Buck. Bucky was a ladies man, far more experience with women than Steve could ever dream of,But so was Sam. Although, Sam might encouraged him to do the wrong thing-he wasn’t a fan of Larissa, and he reminded Steve of that every chance he got. Steve, after a brief consideration hit the call button, the phone failing out Bucky. “Why are you calling at such an ungodly hour?” Bucky groaned dramatically, as he answered the phone.
“Buck, what are you talking about? You’re a night owl. I’m sort of in a predicament. I did something stupid.”
“Where are you? What’s going on?” Bucky’s voice was attentive and laced with worry.
“I’m at y/n’s loft.”
“Wait what? Why?”
Bucky must have been lying in bed, the sound of him shuffling from beneath the sheets echoed into the phone.
“I don’t know. I knew I offended her earlier today, in her office. The way she looked at me, that look in her eyes-“ Steve shook his head, his heart feeling heavy as he thought back to that afternoon on the sofa of her office. The way she looked at him, her vulnerable eyes full of hurt, it reminded him of how he often felt before he became captain America, and he felt completely and utterly disgusted that he could have ever made anyone feel such a way. “I could see the pain she felt when she looked at me. It was awful. I could just leave things like that, my conscience couldn’t take that kind of guilt.”
“Okay... so what is going on then?”
“Well, when I got here, she was making dinner- and by god buck, it was amazing. I haven’t had a home cooked meal like that in over 50 years. She’s amazing…” The words slipped from Steve’s mouth- like water rushing from a burst dam- before he had a chance to stop them.
“So you have feelings for her then?” Bucky’s tone was rigged as he sighed into the phone.
Steve glowered, to to reluctant to speak. He was a committed man, one engaged to be married in just a few months. Steve felt a raging battle of internal conflict of his morals. He wasn’t a man that would stray- he had classic morals, he was a one kind of woman man… making him ponder if he was in fact with the right woman.
They sat in silence for a minute, the air thick with tension of unsaid opinions- even though they weren’t even in the same room, neither of them knowing what to say, or how to say it.
“Clearly you like her Steve…” Bucky sighed a deep sigh into the phone once again, as he continued to speak, his tone anything but amused. “You should just finish apologizing and get the hell out of the there. The quicker the better. And I’m only encouraging you to apologize, because I don’t want you to hate yourself later.” Steve ran his fingers through his scruffy beard, with an over exaggerated exhale of air, he heaved himself from the wall, Shaking out his nerves.
Be calm, be cool. You’re just going to apologize and go home. This isn’t rocket science. You’ve got this.
Steve gave himself a pep talk, feeling like a complete imbecile for feeling so anxious. It wasn’t like this was the first time he had ever spoken to y/n. He’d spent weeks alone with her, just talking. This was just like those times. Steve took one last deep breath, exhaling as he knocked on y/n’s door once again.
Reader POV
You sat at the table in awe, racking your brain to try and come up with some sort of explanation to explain what had just happened. You were still trying to process the fact the Steve Rogers was in your home, sitting at your dinner table, sharing a home cooked meal with you, and now you were just adding onto the confusion… why did he run out like that? Was it something you had said? Because you honestly didn’t recall saying much. And what the hell was he apologizing for? For the whole touching ordeal?
Oh god, was that why he was here… shit. You hoped he would have forgotten about that. You felt your body growing in warmth, as bubbles tickled at your tummy. As much as you wanted it to be because of the wine, you knew it was your nerves-although, you were sure the wine wasn’t helping one bit, only adding to your flustered state. But a part of you felt sort of.. flattered, that he came all this way for you-
OH FUCKING HELL! Enough Y/N! He is engaged!!! And he is your client, You’re the freaking wedding planner.
The irony of the situation seemed overly chaotic. But you couldn’t help who you have feelings for right? That’s out of your control, right? You couldn’t help that the past couple of weeks with Steve had felt so right. The two of you just melded well. His friends
Throwing your hands up in defeat, you dramatically shook your balled fists in the air. You stood from your seat at the table, empty wine glass-just a drop of wine left that swooshed around the open glass as you walked. You set the glass onto the hard solid surface of your countertop, exhaling heavily as you poured another glass. You leaned your lower back against the counter, breathing in the crips but earthy scent tickling at your nose, as you took an exaggerated sip.
You just wanted life to be normal again. You liked when it was just you and work. No feelings. Things were far less complicated that way.
A soft knock at the door pulled you from the endless ramblings of your mind.
Who could that be? Maybe your neighbor was in a drunken state and unable to unlock the door, yet again. But wishful thinking kicked in, sending your mind on the most ridiculous of thoughts, that it would be Steve, coming to whisk you off your feet like a corny Hallmark romance, that you loved so much.
Ha. You scuffed to yourself as you shambled over to the door-the sound of the pad of your slippers scrapping over the wood floor- pushing the unrealistic fantasy to the deep dark depths of your brain.
You didn’t even bother peering through the peep hole, as you swung the door open without hesitation.
“Dammit Jackie, I thought we-“ you cut yourself off mid sentence, seeing that it wasn’t Jackie behind the door, no, it was tall, dark and handsome blue eyed dream, Steve. You took in a sharp breath, your body rippling in a sudden heat. Steve was still here? You were sure he had run off to god knows where. You couldn’t help but stare at him, noticing a dangerous glint in his eye, a look you’d never seen before.
“Steve? What are you-“ before you could finish , his hands clasped at your cheeks pulling you into him, as his mouth came crashing down against yours. You were completely shocked, to say the least. the flesh of his lips felt silky smooth against, as he lips moved in time with yours. His kisses were ravenous yet delicate. As he kissed you, it felt as though all your worries had been vanquished.
His strong hands fell from your cheeks- leaving a trail of cold in their wake-opting for your waist as he wrapped his arms around you, pulling you deeper into the kiss.
Your arms almost instinctively found their way around his shoulders, pulling yourself closer into him. The feel of his flexed shoulders shoulders, sending glorious shivers through your body. -You hadn’t been kissed like this in years...well ever.- Your hand trailed deviously up he length of Steve’s neck, finding the beginning of his hairline. His luxuriant locks, were soft to the touch and unbelievably silky. Your fingers found themselves intertwined in it. It was so silky, far more than you thought possible. Perfect, just like him.
When Steve’s lips broke from yours, the rush of air stung at the raw flush of your lips and chin. Steve’s wild beard had down a number on you.
The two of you stood in the hallway of your lofted apartment, panting loudly, like dogs in the hot los Vegas heat, your heart echoing loudly in your ear like the pounding of a drum.
Your eyes met his, ambivalently. You couldn’t conjure a single word, as you stared into those pools of blue.
You wanted scream or laugh, or smile. Something! But no, of course not. You just stood there like a lost puppy without its mom.
“Y/N…”
The sound of your voice on Steve’s lips was like a symphony, in the deep and husky tone, making your head go all fuzzy.
“Steve…”
Nothing more but an exchange of glances transpired, as Steve’s figure struck into the distance.
You bit at your lower lip, a giddy girlish smile stretching across your face as you closed the door behind you.
“Steve Rogers just kissed me. The words felt so right as the fell from your lips..
Your heart felt full of such emended joy, but the looming thoughts of guilt were not far behind…
You needed some wine. Scratch that, a lot of wine.
You grabbed your glass from the counter, smashing back what was left and grabbing the bottle as you marched your way to the sofa, a lifetime movie still playing. You settled into the sofa, draping a throw blanket over your feet.
You traced over your swollen lips with your finger, the lingering taste of his mouth still fresh. There was no way you were getting Steve out of your head tonight.
Well fuck.
This is why you made your work your life. It kept you busy, too busy to worry about frivolous things like dating and men. Feelings of this magnitude were too complex for your liking. And you hopelessly wished you could go back to before the feelings, when life was less… of a hassle.
Steve POV
The chill air of winter shown with each breath Steve took, as he burst through the door into the open street. His chest felt tight, his shirt wound up tight in his fist. What had he been thinking, kissing her like that? Steve thought to himself, unstable. But the kiss. That was the kiss of romance films, this kind of kiss that only happens in books. Steve has dreamed of kissing y/n for weeks, but he never imagined it be anything like that. Her full bodied lips were soft and warm against his. She tasted fruity, a mixture of her and the wine, and he loved it.
The way she kissed him back… it gave Steve shivers just just thinking about it. There was so much passion and lust in that kiss. He wanted more...
No. Steve aggressively ran his hands through his hair, thwarted in his own thoughts. He plucked his phone from his place tucked in his back pocket, sending a text to the group chat of Bucky and Sam.
Meet at my place. Need to talk.
Steve pulled the hood of his sweatshirt over his head, tucking the phone back into its place, as he took off in a trout. He needed to clear his mind- at least try- and jogging always seemed to give him a little perspective.
Sam and Bucky, stood on either side of the entry, Bucky looking utterly unamused, Sam looking a tad too eager.
The three men walked into the apartment, falling into the usual seating arrangement.
“So, you went to her place?” Sam’s eyes nearly leapt from his head, his voice laced with anticipation.
Steve simply nodded, avoiding eye contact at all costs. “I had to try and clear the air..”
“More like you have the hots for her.”
“Shut it Sam.” Bucky chimed in, his arms crossed over his chest. “So what happened?”
“Well after I got off the phone with you Buck, I had every intention of talking with her but…” Steve trailed off, his head feeling fuzzy as he remembered that amazingly fiery kiss.
“Well What happened? Did you talk to her, or just run away?” Bucky asked, as him and Sam watched Steve with curious eyes.
“No, I kissed her.”
“That’s my boy.” Sam smiled as he patted Steve’s shoulder. Bucky shook his head at the both of them.
“I… after the kiss I… i don’t.” Steve rustled through his already askew hair. “This marriage, Larissa… I just don’t know anymore. I’ve never felt this unsure about anything before.”
Steve rubbed at his beard as he sank into the oversized chair, desperately wishing he could disappear.
“I know she’s a real catch Steve, I get that, she’s a doll, but what about the agreement? You know that I have your best interest at heart, and I, Sam, even Nat, will support you-“ Sam nodded in agreement as Bucky spoke. “But you know this marriage affects more than just you-“
“Fuck.”
Sam and Bucky starred at Steve in a state of awe. He rarely, if ever cursed.

STEVE ROGERS POV
Wedding planning was exhausting. Steve could believe people actually enjoyed this. He’s much rather have been kicking back with Bucky, and ice cold beer watching sports. But instead, here he was stuck planning large wedding, he didn’t even want whilst his fiancée was has way across the world. Steve always imagined a small, simplistic wedding, close family and friends, something rustic and homey. But Larissa wanted big, Big, BIG!
Steve flopped into the overstuffed leather sofa of his Brooklyn loft. After a long day of venue touring, his brain was fried.
“Beers are here!” Sam’s voice echoed off the exposed brick of the loft. His hands were full with four cases of beer. Bucky trailed behind him, carrying two large boxes of pizza.
“You look awful man.” Sam tossed Steve a bottle, laughing as he took a seat in the match oversized chair.
“I feel awful. I never thought I’d wish for something to go wrong, just so I could get out of wedding planning.”
“That bad?” Bucky chimed in carrying over a box of pizza with a roll of paper towels.
“Yes! All we talk about is colors, and table settings. Flower arrangements this, wedding photos that. It’s beyond annoying. If Y/N was such a nice young woman, I’d have run off by now.”
“Nice you say?” Sam’s looked at Steve with quizzical eyes, one brow arching higher than the other.
“Yes Sam, she’s very sweet. You’d like her.”
“Oh I would now?”
“Yes, Bucky too. She really is delightful. We went to lunch today, and she’s actually quite comical.”
Bucky and Sam exchanged a look of deviation spreading across their faces in the form of wicked grins.
“Steve, buddy ole pal. Do you have the hots for your wedding planner?”
Steve’s face grew 10 different shades of red, as he swatted at his friends.
“No! Of course not. I just... you two suck. You know that?”
Both of his friends burst out into thunderous laughter. Bucky patted Steve’s shoulder, giving it a stern squeeze, Steve, shrugging him off.
“Anyways, I love Larissa. I mean, I could probably set one of you up with her, although, she doesn’t seem like the dating type.” At least, Steve hoped she wasn’t the dating type. . .
Steve felt a slight tightening in his chest as he spoke. He moved awkwardly in the lazy boy, taking a long swig of his beer, as his friends joked around.
“Hey Cap, why so quiet bud?”
Sam looked at Steve with mischievous eyes- he was always up to no good. Steve rolled his eyes, refusing to feed into to Sam’s agenda, taking another long swig from the bottle. He suddenly wasn’t in the mood for beer and pizza. He needed to let off some steam.
“I think I’m just going to go for a run. Yeah, a run sounds good.”
Steve lurched himself from his seat, hustling to his room to change into better fitting clothing. Something he could move freely in without feeling like he was being suffocated. Steve ripped off his button down shirt, tearing it as he forgot his own strength for a moment.
What the hell is wrong with me?
Steve thought to himself as he paused, his naked flesh exposed as he slumped over the sink, his hands clutching to the edge of the counter. These feelings were irrational, and Steve was anything but irrational… well, most of the time. Slipping into a pair of sweats and a form fitting blue tee that hugged his chest, exposing the definition of his toned pecks and perfectly built biceps and triceps, slipping a snuggly fit grey sweatshirt over top.
After his tennis shoes were tied, Steve made his way for the door, his two best friends trailing close behind.
“Steve, where are going?” Bucky stopped him, resting a bionic arm on his shoulder.
“I just need to clear my head. I’ll be back later, make yourselves at home, you always do anyway.”
Steve took off without another word. The cool air licked at his face as he took off running into the evening dusk. Thoughts of Y/N consumed his mind. That smile was infectious and sweet. She was shy, but outgoing, one of those women who didn’t know how beautiful they actually were. She was everything Larissa wasn’t. Sure, Larissa was kind, genuine and strikingly beautiful- some say she’s every man’s dream- but there was something Y/N had that Larissa didn’t. Steve wasn’t quite sure what it was, but he knew it was something significant.
He was drawn to Y/N, but he knew he shouldn’t be. He was getting married, and she is the wedding planner. . .
Steve pushed harder, his legs pumping faster as he quickened his pace from a brisk jog, into an all out sprint. Until his thoughts were of nothing but remembering how to breathe. He didn’t want to think about her anymore… he couldn’t.
———
The following weeks were painstakingly slow. Steve just wished Larissa would come back already. He didn’t know how much longer he could do this, keep up the facade. He had feelings for Y/N, that much he knew, but why was she so intoxicating? Just being in the same room as her made his head spin, and over the last couple of weeks things had only gotten worse. Steve found himself in a constant cycle of thought, always thinking of Y/N. He rarely thought of Larissa anymore, and it made him feel immense guilt and he didn’t think he could take much more of it.
Steve sat across from Y/N, his arm draped over the plush loveseat as he listened to her speak in what seemed like foreign tongues.
“So, Larissa sent me a message, and she would like you and your super boy posy - her words by the way- to pick out tuxedos. She specifically requested cumberbunds, but will settle for a low cut vest style. No bare. Shirts should have French cuffs and French front shirt. Pants should-“
Steve threw his hands up in defeat. “Listen Y/N, I know you mean well, and you’re just doing your job, but for the love of goodness, I have no idea what you are talking about. I’m honestly not even sure if you’re speaking English to me right now. I know Larissa is nitpickie, but. . . Wow.”
Y/N looked at Steve with her calming eyes, that laugh that he adored so much slipping from her lips as she burst into laughter.
“ I should have known fashion isn’t your forte.” Her smile widened as she continued to laugh. Y/N moved from her seat, grabbing the iPad that sat on the edge of her desk, before tasking s test next to Steve on the love seat, her leg brushing against Steve’s knee.
Steve felt his heart leap in his chest. He felt nervous, clearing his throat as he awkwardly repositioned himself. He rubbed his sweating hands down his pants as he cleared his throat- trying to rid himself of the unreasonable nervousness.
“Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t realize I was so close.” Her voice was laced with panic and embarrassment as she scooted away, creating a large gap between herself and Steve.
Steve could see in her mesmerizing eyes, that she was suddenly self-conscious, and her whole demeanor seemed to change.
“It’s not big deal, it happens. Don’t worry about it. “ Steve reached out, resting his hand on her forearm, trying his best to reassure Y/N, but thee damage was already done and Steve felt a wave of remorse. Her never should have moved. He liked the way her leg felt against his. He liked feeling close to her.
“I um, wold you excuse me a moment?” Before he even had a chance to reply, she was off the couch and rushing out of the office.
God dammit.
Steve grabbed his phone that was tucked away in his pocket, sending a text to a group chat of his closest friends.
Steve: I think I just made my wedding planner cry.
Sam: Cap… What did you do?
Bucky: You….. Made a woman cry? How’d you manage that one?
Nat: Steve….
Steve: I didn’t do anything really… she just sat down a little close than I think she meant too… she was laughing after all…
Bucky: what does that even mean?
Sam: So like, did she touch you or…
Steve: kind of yeah. But it was unintentional. And I panicked. I have no idea why I panicked.
Nat: You hurt her feelings Steve…
Bucky: Wait, I thought you liked her though? I’m confused now…
Steve: I do like her, I don’t know what came over me.
Sam: Man, I knew you had the hits for her. You sly dog, you.
Steve. NO SAM! NOT LIKE THAT!
Nat: why are you yelling Steve?
Steve: You all are no help.
Bucky: That’s what were here for, no help. We fight with force, not feelings. What did you expect?
Steve: Obviously I wasn’t thinking when I sent the text. You all are useless. TTYL.
Steve tucked his phone back into his pocket, resting his elbows on top of his knees-his head hung as he massaged at his temple. What was it about this woman that drove him to the point of such irrational behavior?
Reader POV
When your leg brushed against his, you prayed he wouldn’t notice. You hoped that you could play it off as if it didn’t happen, but Steve’s reaction sent the hopes and dreams blowing into the wind. HE seemed top flinch at your touch, moving as quickly as he could to create a distance between the two of you. The expression on his face, looked to be a face of horror and discontent.
No…
You couldn’t think straight, as your emotions took over you. Before you even knew what you were thinking, you were on your feet, darting for the bathroom…
Your heart leapt in your chest as you hovered over the sink- your hands clutching the sink so hard, they ached. You felt your stomach beginning to churn, you felt as though you might just hurl. How could you have been so stupid? God. They way he moved away from you… Your heart dropped into your stomach, tears welling in your eyes. Of course he’d never go for someone like you, he was completely out of your league. He is Steve Rogers, Captain America- and he was marry Larissa fucking Levingston for fuck sakes. You were his wedding planner, period.
“Get out of fantasy land Y/N, and do your job.” You scowled at yourself in the mirror, wiping the running mascara from your under eye and cheek. Taking in a deep breath, you recomposed yourself, You were a professional and you needed to be professional. With another deep breath, you sucked back in the emotions you had let run loose.
Not today Y/N, not today.
You displayed your best fake smile- quite genuine looking- as you entered back into your office.
“Sorry about that. I think I might be catching a bug. Now where were we?” You snatched up the iPad you had tossed onto the coffee table when you fled to the bathroom. You tested yourself back on the loveseat, but made sure there was a persons length between the two of you. You would not make the same mistake twice.
“Are you sure you’re okay? If you’re not feeling well, I wouldn’t want to keep you.”
Of course. You were sure he wanted nothing more but then to get away from you, but you had a job to do. You had to make sure Larissa’s requests were met. And the tuxedos were high on her list. You had to get them perfect, and everyone knows, that customer tuxedos take time, so this needed to get done today, now, no matter how much your self esteem was suffering, you had to do this.
“No, no I’m fine. This is important. Larissa wants custom Tux’s and those take time, so were going to have to pick out some styles today, and get fittings scheduled for you and your party. So let’s get started.” You wanted do get this over with as soon as possible. Your cuddle duds, crappy Lifetime movies, and Chineseese food, were calling your name.
“Alright. Walk me through it then.
After a long day at work, and an outburst of untamed emotions, you were happy to be home. You set the bags of groceries onto the kitchen counter, sighing in relief as you freed your poor aching feet from the new heels you had decided to wear that day-rookie mistake, you should have definitely worn them in first. You grabbed a Large wine glass form the cupboard, realising the cork from the bottle of wine as you proud yourself a generous glass. Taking a sip, you felt the glorious red liquid warming your body. Oh how you loved wine.
Glass on hand, you climbed the short flight of stairs to your bedroom. You couldn’t get out of your work clothes quick enough. You didn’t even bother picking up your clothes from the floor- you knew you would regret it later, but at the moment, after the day you had experienced, you couldn’t care less- you made your way into the bathroom, clearing the days worn makeup from your face.
Fresh faced and in your favorite pair of cuddle duds, you strutted down into the kitchen to prepare yourself some supper. Freshly chopped chicken sautéed on the stove, as you sliced some spring onion and ginger, adding them into the sizzling chicken, the mouthwatering scent wafting up in the steady streams of steam. You flipped on the TV, turning the channel straight to lifetime. Crappy acting, predictable plot, and of course a criminal act, was all the joy of watching Lifetime movies. Even though they surely weren’t winning any film awards anytime soon, they somehow managed to keep your attention.
Just as you were spooning out your Teriyaki chicken into a serving bowl, your buzzer rang. You weren’t expecting any company… Walking to the door, you held the intercom button.
“Who is it?”
“Hey Y/N, its Steve, Steve Rogers. Can we talk?”
What the hell was Steve Rogers doing at your home? How the hell did he even know where you lived? And what could he possibly want to talk about at 9:32pm. You stood there for one too many seconds, his voice speaking through the intercom.
“Hello? Are you still there?”
“Uh yeah, I’ll buzz you up.”
Hesitantly, you hit the buzzer, unlocking in the door, and letting Steve Rogers into your building. And it hit you. You were in your jimjams, no makeup, hair a mess… Jesus fucking christ. A flood of panic rushed over you as you bobbed up and down like a lunatic.
Fuck fuck fuck.
The knock at the door nearly sent you over the edge. You couldn’t possibly let him see you like this… but what choice I you have?
-another knock at the door.-
Fuck.
Hesitantly , you made your way for the door, unlocking the deadbolt, slowly opening the door so only half of your face was visible. Steve stood in the hall, a fading smile gracing his face- he looked nervous, his sparkling blue eyes avoided yours as he looked at the ground, before meeting your gaze.
“I… Could I possibly come in? I’m truly sorry for the intrusion, I just wanted to talk with you.”
Nodding, you opened the door wide enough for him to step through -You were going to regret this later… Hell, you regretted it now.- You closed the door behind him, holding your arms snuggly against your body. Your embarrassment level at an all time high.
“Wow, it smells amazing in here.”
“Oh thanks. I just whipped up some quick supper, I was actually just about to eat-“
“Im so sorry. Gosh, this was so rude of me to show up unannounced. I should leave.”
A part of you wished he would leave, but…
“It’s alright Steve. No harm done. Actually, I made well more than I can eat alone… Would you like to join me?”
Steve’s eyes seems to light up as you asked him to stay. It made your heart sputter.
“I couldn’t impose-“
“No, I insist, poles stay. DO you like teriyaki chicken?”
He nodded, a glint of a smile creeping in the corner of his mouth. “I cant remember the last time I had a home cooked meal.”
You directed him to the quant square table that sat in your eat in kitchen, gesturing for him to have a seat. You finished spooning the chicken into the bowl, setting it onto the table with a side of rice, grabbing dinnerware from the cabinet.
“Would you like anything drink? I’m afraid I don’t have much of a selection. Lets see here..” You peered into your fridge, nothing but beer and water. “I have some wine, or theres a bottle of Guinness , if you’d prefer that or water.”
“I’ll take that Guinness if you don’t mind.”
You grabbed the bottle from the fridge, using the bottle opener magnet that hung on the fridge to crack it open. You took your seat across the table from Steve, feeling more aware of the situation you were in then you would have liked.
“Please, help yourself.” Your voice began to crack as you pushed the food closer to his general direction. Steve hesitated a moment, before sipping a heaping pile of rice and chicken onto his plate. Good thing you had made enough to feed a family of five, because the man could eat.
“Oh my, this is amazing! You made this?”
Steve smiled that oh so charming grin that made you melt, as he took another bite. You nodded, smiling back at him as you dished yourself a plate.
“So, what brings you by?” You asked between bites. You desperately wanted to know what brought this hunk of a man to your home. Was it about the tuxedos? His friends probably weren’t on board with it, and he was probably here to find away out of them…
“I wanted to apologizes. About early today.”
You nearly choked on your chicken. He came all the way out here to apologize? But for what exactly?
“Apologize? For what?
“My behavior earlier, you know. . . “ You could feel the heat rising to your face, a wave of nausea sweeping over you as he spoke. “I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable or embarrassed. I, I don’t know what came over me. I don’t know what it is, but, you…” Steve shook his head, his thumb and index finger rubbing at his eyes, before staring at you with those intoxicating blue eyes.
“I don’t understand.” The words spilled form your mouth, barely audible.
Steve was no longer sitting but standing in to the side of you. You looked up at him, completely puzzled by the predicament you seemed to be in.
“I have to go. I’m sorry.”
Steve hustled for the door, swinging it behind him as he left, with a slight bang. You were speechless, utterly confused. And you were 100% unsure on how to process what had just issued.
