After the hurricane recovery is starting in the states and the damage is so bad in some places, they're either gone or don't have a single road left into town.
The power outage map for the states affected is honestly astounding. I actually know friends in southwestern Ohio that had a tornado/cyclonic thunderstorm from this system knock their power out.
Some places might not get power back for 2+ weeks.
The western half of North Carolina, where the Appalachian mountains are, is so badly damaged that some news stations are warning from any travel, and to consider every road closed until further notice.
Asherville is so damaged there seem to be almost no major roads left in or out of town.
The flooding from this storm is devastating and has destroyed entire towns and wiped some off the map. Damns and other infrastructure are failing all over the affected areas.
Until the flood waters recede sometime in the next few days, we won't have a full scope of just how badly people have been affected, nor will we have a final death toll.
Oh also, apparently the governor of Tennessee has not declared a state of emergency despite several places being catastrophically inundated. Instead he's done this, which is pissing a lot of people off.

If you’re about to get hit with the snow/ice storm this weekend start prepping today if you can. Make preparations for if the power goes out(food and batteries!) and have all your faucets at a drip/drizzle to avoid freezing pipes. If you’re somewhere where you’re expected to get a lot of snow go out intermittently to shovel it(if it’s safe to do so) throughout the storm. And if you’re not used to shoveling be careful and go slow, you do not want to hurt your shoulder/back, it’s not talked about often but shoveling is an extreme sport- do not shovel if you’re prone to high blood pressure/heart issues.
If you have a car make sure there is a good amount of gas in the tank to help prevent your gas lines freezing, coolant can also freeze. Having a fuller gas tank also means you could turn on the heat in the car if you lose power/heat. If you do lose heat and are stuck in your house/apartment put everyone in one room and seal up doors/windows with blankets/towels.
Keep checking your local weather advisories but be aware weather forecasts at this moment will not be super accurate for Sunday, especially using weather apps(which will change roughly every 6 hours when the new meteorological raw data comes in), you’re better off listening to actual meteorologists.
Summary: A group of dumb teens are very keen to do dumb ideas when bored.

Three kids laze around in a bedroom. The three relax on a Sunday afternoon, homework done and the vibes are just right for chilling. Glow in the dark stars decorate the ceiling, gaining energy where the sun shines on them through the window in the mid-afternoon as the it becomes later in the day. Just a slow, relaxing day.
Perfect for relaxing.
...Or some shenanigans.
"Hey, check out what I found!" The lazy silence broken by none other than Tucker Foley, browsing the web on his souped up PDA, who uncovered a very interesting natural phenomena.
So of course he shoved his device with the site open in his friends' faces.
"What's a 'brinicle'?" Sam and Danny asked at the same time when they saw the title, confusion clear in their voices.
"Scroll down and you'll find out." Tucker's voice nearly cracked in anticipation.
"Holy shit!" Sam yanked the PDA to get a closer look, knocking Danny out of the way.
"What?" Danny asked, feeling completely left out.
"Uh huh! Keep reading. There's a video attached." Tucker goaded Sam to keep looking.
"Hey, guys? What does it say?" Danny is getting really annoyed at being ignored, he even started to pout about it.
"Here, you big baby," Sam teased him before she shoved the article in his face. He petulantly grabbed it from her and got to read what those two were so surprised by.
"Ok, let's see...'Meet the ‘Finger of Death’: a Super-Cooled Brinicle That Kills Anything It Touches'," Dannys eyes flashed in excitement before scrolling down, "Woah! This is really cool."
This new phenomena got his gears turning as Tucker finally got to have his device back. His thinking face was on and it slightly concerned his friends.
Danny Fenton is 14 and sometimes he has dumb ideas he can't be talked out of doing.
"Do you think I could do that?" His friends both look at him, an unspoken need to know what he means. "My ice powers were pretty strong and ghost ice can be different from regular ice. Could it work in different conditions, even?"
Dumb ideas his two friends might want in on.
"Hmm, we could try and see if we can measure it. I have that list of your powers and how much you can do with them right on this baby here." Tucker waves his precious PDA to emphasize what he means.
"Guys," Sam started, prepared to be the voice of reason before a thought came to her, "if we're careful we could set up a controlled environment to test it."
Just as the three dumb kids were about to test a theory the world seemed to glitch and a green sticky note appeared on Tucker's PDA, the device that started this whole idea.
All it said was:
'There is a time and place for everything but it is not now!'
Three dumb kids laze about, knowing that this is the best way to spend a day like today.

Half of my state is flooding because of the tropical storm today, including my county and surrounding counties, and it’s all so surreal because this wasn’t even supposed to be a major storm. I mean, tropical storms are always major storms I guess, but it’s not a hurricane and it’s not even that big. But the warming climate means that storms can hold more moisture and when they’re slow moving, they can dump so much rain in a short period. Like what happened in Texas.
It’s scary shit. We’re luckily not near any of the lakes or rivers or in a flood plane, so our house is totally fine, but seeing pics of flooding from nearby places and roads I’ve driven on a million times is very disconcerting. The flooding is especially bad in the town where my parents live, and I can’t help but wonder if their house is okay even though I’m sure it’s fine since it’s up on a hill.
It’s just all making me anxious tonight. I hate weather stuff. I hate floods.
It’s already been such a shit weekend because the 4th of July has traumaversary stuff tied into for me, on top of dysregulating fireworks. And what has made it all so much worse is the internal and emotional fallout from the hangout I had with my younger brother on Thursday where several very distressing things occurred, but particularly distressing was finding out that my mom and dad have ended their separation and my dad has moved back in.
My mom is also apparently telling people that I don’t want to see her even though I’ve never communicated that and certainly have not asked her to straight up ignore me and act like she doesn’t even see me like she did when our paths crossed on Wednesday night last week. So she’s making herself out to be the victim when she’s the one who told me last June that she was choosing me and kicking my dad out, and then had the audacity to reconcile with him and have him move back in…without even having the guts to tell me herself. Betrayal on betrayal.
Anyway. I’m not okay. I have been fighting major urges to isolate…I just wanna hide from everything and everyone and be left alone to numb out and distract myself however I can. I’m so tired of everything and it all feels pointless. Dreading having to fake my way through another work week. It just feels like nothing matters anymore. I don’t have anything left to give.
