It was just asking for trouble, even temporarily, and lately trouble was all he had going in his life. Not only that, but he was also filled with the knowledge that he had failed his best friend, Caroline. Had probably helped to drive her over the edge, even, and now she was gone --- they had granted her the year she had wanted. He couldn’t save her from herself, and now he was left with no distractions. Just the knowledge that a psychopath was their newest tenant, if only for a day. 

Stefan had never met Kai, but he knew (or at least thought he did) enough to know that he was not someone he would like, ever. He had killed his own siblings without mercy. Children. He had heard the stories of Damon’s time in the prison world, and his dislike for the dysfunctional warlock had only grown. Supposedly with the merge to his brother, that had started to change, but Stefan still didn’t trust him.
