Galaxy Buds Are Becoming Hearing Aids
Samsung has received FDA clearance for a hearing aid feature coming to its Galaxy Buds in the fourth quarter of 2026. The feature is intended for people with mild to moderate hearing loss, bringing Samsung closer to the hearing-health capabilities Apple introduced for AirPods in 2024.
Users will be able to take a roughly five-minute hearing test and use the resulting audiogram to personalize amplification. The earbuds can boost sounds that are harder to hear while using noise reduction and beamforming to make sounds from in front of the listener clearer.
The hearing aid tools will work with the Galaxy Buds3 Pro and Galaxy Buds4 Pro, paired with a newer Galaxy phone running One UI 8 or later. Samsung says it developed the technology with the National Acoustic Laboratories and Samsung Medical Center.
Thoughts: Turning everyday earbuds into useful hearing devices feels like one of the more practical directions for wearable tech. More competition here could make these features feel increasingly ordinary rather than specialized.
