Regulus’s throat had felt so tight when Effie had knelt before him and reassured him that there was no veritaserum in his tea. He’d taken a sip of the warm drink. 

He was surprised when, after a roast lamb dinner complete with Yorkshire puddings, and he and James excused themselves to go upstairs, that Hilly had put his things in James’s room. He had expected to be in his own room. Not that he would have stayed in there, he would have waited until he was sure Effie and Monty were asleep and snuck into James’s room. 

“Reg, we’re engaged,” James laughed as he dragged Regulus into his childhood room. “That and I asked Mum after she said you could stay,” he flopped down onto his bed, pulling Regulus on top of him. “Besides, she never minded when Sirius slept in my bed,” Regulus screwed up in face in a grimace. 

“Well, I assume and hope that you didn’t shag my brother all the times he slept in your bed?” 

“No,” James chuckled at him, wrapping his arms and legs around him tight and flipping them until Regulus was pinned beneath him. James leaned down and pressed his lips against Regulus’s, and Regulus forgot what they were talking about.
