The description and title teases that the story is based on a sleepover before a fitting for a royal event, assumingly Anna's fitting for her wedding. The description is also written in the same way as previous short from videos like Frozen: Winter Festival and Animals of Arendelle: Lost and Found and their dresses are inspired by their Frozen 2 attire, especially Elsa's. So yeah it's for the 2D animated short but before you go and say "oh not another one!" let me remind you of how good the previous one was. Let's very briefly relieve back on that story for Animals of Arendelle: Lost and Found. The story picked up literally right after Frozen 1 ended, from the very next day. A bunch of animals are found in the castle and are misplaced from their home so the gang sets off to go and send them back to the habitats as Elsa's eternal winter disrupted the balance of nature. You can read my full review of that here but I remember loving it way more than Winter Festival which was little cringe. Animals of Arendelle had a good story that could be considered canon if you like. So let's also give this new 2D short a chance.
Some speculate this short form video is the said short, by Paul Glitter, releasing in October. I originally didn't think so but now I think it might actually be it unfortunately. Paul Glitter said a few months back on Frozen's marketing as well as the build up to Frozen 3, and I made a post about it here. He says that the team's strategy is to bring “show-to-shelf” products tied to short form content (like done with Frozen: Winter Festival and Animals of Arendelle) but also mentions he's targeting the fans who've grown up with Frozen from the very beginning with brands like Pandora, which is good and his strategy seems to be working hence more dolls coming out and short form content too. However, what we were all caught off guard by was when he mentioned that there's a short coming this October that's set to officially kick off the countdown and their “biggest ever cross-company movie marketing campaign” for Frozen 3. Gitter mentions these recent shorts as short form videos, as they are, but then mentions short for the short in October rather than short form, which means there could be a chance that this Frozen short is an official 3D animated short like Frozen Fever and Olaf's Frozen Adventure, right? But then looking back in Disney Kids Channel on YouTube, both previous short form videos were released in October.
Now I don't mean to get hopes up or down and I can't say for certain but with the release date being October for the previous 2D shorts, I feel like it's just this short is really just the 2D animated short. But it is assumedly based on the Royal Wedding so it does help to pull in kids to this new era of Frozen.
But let's see. To be certain about the short for October, we must see what D23 in August, brings us.
