Germania Hall by Joe Schumacher

Germania Hall in Wooster, Ohio was built in 1878 by Messers. Gerlach, Kinkler, and Struab. The first two owned a meat market and the latter a saloon and restaurant. The College of Wooster has a nice photo of the building from the early 1960s. The butcher shop closed in 1884 and the original Freedlander's clothing store moved in. Freedlander's would later move into its own building around the corner. At the time of its closing in. 2009 Freedlander's was the oldest independently-owned department store in the country. I wonder who owns that record now? Anyway, the current ground floor occupant is a fancy steakhouse, so the building has come full circle.
