“No!” Waverly said entirely too loudly. She lowered her voice. “No. No. No-no-no-no.” She shook her head, glancing across Shorty’s at the woman who was passing through town and had just made a pass at Nicole.

Nicole grinned. “You kinda are.”

Waverly took a deep breath and accepted the drink that Nicole had gotten for her. “I am...” she tapped the bottom of her drink. “Working on it.”

Nicole’s smile faded a bit. She opened her arms to Waverly. “C’mon.”

Waverly stepped into Nicole’s arms and found a safety in them. She felt foolish for being jealous.

“I understand,” Nicole rubbed Waverly’s back. “You’ve been through a lot. Lost a lot of people.”

“Been cheated on like crazy,” Waverly added, closing her eyes.

“I know that logically you know I’d never cheat on you,” Nicole leaned back a bit to look at Waverly in the face. “But I also know there’s still a nagging there.” She kissed Waverly’s forehead. “And it’s a hole that... that is hard not to fall into, but we’ll fill it up okay? It’ll take time and some work, but...” Nicole smiled. “You’re so worth it.”

Waverly dropped her forehead on Nicole’s chest. “How did you get so perfect?”

Nicole smiled. “I’m not perfect, but you make me want to try.”

A loud fake vomiting noise erupted next to them. Wynonna sneered at them. Then her face paled. “Oh man, that noise was too realistic. Damn pregnancy reflex.” She shuffled toward the bathroom before she blew chunks all over the bar.

“Are you sure it was a good idea to bring Wynonna to a bar?” Nicole pulled Waverly’s close again.
