After Jonathan and i went and searched in the woods and went by castle Byers one more time, we returned to the Byers residence. Outside the sky soared above and, the rain poured down heavily.
Joyce and Jonathan were sitting down in the couch. They had spread out the photographs Jonathan had taken, studying each one.
"These are great" Joyce sniffled " wow, they really are" I slipped away quietly into the kitchen, giving them the space to talk openly.
Where was will? If what I assume is right, which is a big if, will needs to be helped as soon as possible. But why now? Why will?? All these questions were running through my mind when the telephone's shrill ringing brought be back to reality.
I headed to the living room just as Joyce picked up the phone. "Hello? Hello? Lonnie? Hopper? Who is this?" Joyce turned to look around at Jonathan, her eyes wide with shock before saying " will? Will?!!" Will? What the actual hell. " who is this? WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO MY BOY" Joyce yelled over the phone.
"Give me back my son" as Joyce spoke, a sudden surge of electricity ripped through and the phone short circuited. Joyce flinched back due to the sudden shock from the phone and dropped it.
My stomach turned violently. A sudden wave of nausea washed over me. The familiar, overwhelming yet powerful presence stirred, one i had felt long ago. No. No. Please god no. My powers surged through my veins, clawing for release. I could hear Joyce and Jonathan speaking but my mind wouldn't let me register what they're saying
The sudden return of my power was too overbearing. It felt crushing. I sensed Jonathan rush to my side " thena?? Are you alright??"
"Yes I'm fine. I haven't had anything from morning. I guess it is finally catching up to me" I reassured him. "Jonathan i have to get going now. I'll see you in school. Call me if you need anything. Bye John. Bye mrs Byers" i gave Jonathan a quick hug and ran out of their house.
"She's kind, people like her don't come around often. She's good for you" Joyce smiled at her son, with warmness in her eyes.
"It's not like that mom. She's my best friend, that's it" Jonathan retorted with a shy smile on his face. It was true. Jonathan loves Athena. But as a friend that's it. She was like a little sister to him. Even tho people often mistake them for a couple because of both of them hanging out together almost every time, they could never be anything more than friends and they were glad it was this way.

When i reached home, i heard rustling behind me. I allow my powers to pool in my hands, a crimson glow spreading through my fingers as i take a step towards where the sound came from.
Before I could reach the place, I heard a voice shouting my name "THENA"
I let my powers flow back into my hand and turned back to look who was calling me
"Dustin what are you doing still out? I told you it's not safe outside. You can't stay put in house for like two days??" I looked at him with a stern look.
"Okay first of all mom, I'm fine. Second, I have been trying to get you on the walkie all day!!! Where the hell have you been?" Dustin scowled at me
"Oh do you really need to ask Dustin?? She must've been with her boyfriend, cuddling up to him all day. What else" Lucas taunted. My boyfriend again?
"Uhm hello?? I'm right here? I don't have a boyfriend. I was helping Jonathan look for will .I didn't have the walkie with me. What do you need?" I shot Back at Dustin
"That's what we wanted to talk to you about. I need you to come to mike's house with me. Now." Okay wow he sounds very serious
"This better be good dipshit" before i went to take my car to go to Mike's house.
" are you freaking insane??? In what right mind did you all think it would be okay to bring a girl from the woods and make her stay here. And why would you involve me In this ratshit plan of yours??" I stared at them, incredulous. These boys have lost it. 100%
" I told you guys this was a bad idea" Lucas muttered silently so the 'mystery girl', would not hear.
"Nuh huh. This is not a bad idea. It's a batshit horrible idea" I rolled my eyes at their stupidity. Will this even work out? What am i saying?? Of course it won't
" i personally think she's escaped from pennhurst" Lucas shrugged his shoulder
" how Would you know? You got a family there??" I shot back at him. Pennhurst my ass. There are places worse than pennhurst to escape from.
"Oh my god you really are your brother's sister" Lucas face palmed himself. Dustin was looking at me with a proud smile on his face
" okay i get it thena. I'm sorry. But how could I just leave her out in the storm" Mike questioned us with a look of disappointment on his face
"Yes we went out to find will, not another problem" Lucas argued back to Mike. Oh my god my head hurts
"I think we should tell your mom" Dustin insisted.
"I second that" Lucas nodded his head agreeing with Dustin. Before mike could answer them i spoke up
"Nope. If Mike tells his mom and she calls up your mom and my mom. It's over. You guys can never find will" i told them, my mind racing, trying to come up with another plan. Mike let out a sigh of relief, happy with my answer.
"Alright. She sleeps here tonight-" before he could continue Dustin cut him off
"You're letting a girl stay-" Dustin looked at Mike as if he had lost his mind. I mean can you blame him?
"Just listen" Mike huffed "In the morning, she sneaks around my house, goes to the front door and rings my door bell. My mom will answer and know exactly what to do. She'll send her back to pennhurst or wherever she comes from. We'll be totally in the clear. And tomorrow night we go back out with thena" Mike gave me a pointed look before continuing "and this time, we find will"
We all looked at each other before reluctantly agreeing to mikes plan. I headed up first and waited in my car for Lucas and Dustin to come.
Dustin and Lucas came pushing each other and muttering something along the lines off "he's lost his mind" "he wants to impress her that's why" while getting into the car. I dropped off Lucas at home Before going home with Dustin
"Hey thena" I came to a stop infront of my bedroom door. I looked at Dustin who was staring at the floor.
" I'm sorry if we are burdening you. Mike and lucas, they consider you as a member of the party, even though they don't tell it out openly. If you can't come tomorrow it's fine. Just don't misunderstand us" Dustin whispered.
I walked towards Dustin slowly and hugged him. It breaks my heart to know that he thinks he or the boys would ever be a burden
"You're never a burden dusty. I just want you to be safe that's it. I'll come tomorrow for the search okay?" I kissed him at the crown of his head
"Good night dusty sleep tight. I love you"
"I love you too, T" with that Dustin kissed my cheek and walked off into his room.
I headed straight to bed and drifted off to sleep, mentally bracing myself for Hawkin's chaos tomorrow.

"Ughhh my head is killing me" I said to Nancy and barb as we were walking towards our class. Barb was asking Nancy questions from her flash card About the Chem test, which is also the reason my head was paining right now. Talking About chemistry so early in the morning does make me wanna fry my own brain.
"When alpha particles go through gold foil, they become" Bard questioned
"An unoccupied space" Nancy answered flawlessly. I'm doomed. With everything that's been going on, i didn't have time to study for the test.
"A molecule that can-" before barb could finish her sentence, a tall figure plucked the flash card from barb's hands. Steve Harrington and his loyal little minions. Jesus Christ save me.
"Heyy!" Barb called out to him. Steve just walked past us and casually read through the flash cards. As If his dumb brain can understand anything in there.
"I don't know, I think you've studied enough nance" Steve stated while still looking at the cards.
"Steve-" Nancy's sentence was abruptly cut off by Steve "I'm telling you, you know, you got this. Don't worry."
"Yes how comforting to hear it come from a guy who may have to repeat his last year again." I rolled my eyes. I didn't have to look up at Steve's face to know he's done with my bs
"Let's ignore that. Now on to more important matters. My dad has left town on a conference and my mom's gone with him cause she doesn't trust him. So are you in??" Steve looked at Nancy expectedly
"In for what?" Nancy looked at Steve with confusion written all over her face
"No parents? Big house?" Carol replied with a hint of mischief in her eyes.
" a party" I clarified. I could feel Steve's gaze burning at the side of my head. I turned my head and caught Steve's eyes. He averted his gaze from me quickly and looked at Nancy. Muppet
"Ding ding ding" carol said as Tommy H laughed. Ew
"It's Tuesday" Nancy replied hesitantly. Tommy H mocked Nancy with a scoff "it's Tuesday. Oh my god"
How the hell is Steve finding his girlfriend getting mocked funny?
"I'll be low-key. it'll just be us. What do you say?? Bring thena along. Are you in or are you out??" Steve questioned Nancy with a smile on his face. He raised his eyes to look at me for like a millisecond and turned back to Nancy. Waiting for her answer.
"You want thena to come?" Nancy looked at him, puzzled. I glanced up to find, Steve's gaze already on me.
"Uhm. I mean. Like if you want. Like you know. To keep you company. Right. If you don't wanna come alone. Bring her to keep you company. That's it. Yea. For you" Steve scratched behind his ears nervously. Tommy and carol looked at each other with a knowing look but did not comment anything.
"Um..." nancy muttered. At the very moment, carol's gaze lingered on to something and said "oh,God. Look"
We all turned back to see what was carol talking about. Jonathan was sticking a flyer of will onto the notice board. My heart sank at the sight infront of me. Jonathan looked so tired with bags under his eyes. Like he didn't sleep the entire night.
"Oh god, that's depressing" Steve commented
"Should we say something" Nancy asked cautiously.
"I don't think he speaks" carol tilted her head, unimpressed. A flicker of anger rose in my chest
"He only doesn't speak to brainless imbeciles like you" I gave tight lipped
smile before walking over to Jonathan.
"Aww the freak girlfriend standing up for her freak boyfriend. How sweet. How much you wanna bet he killed him?" Tommy sneered at Athena as she walked off.
"Shut up Tommy" Steve glared at him. Even though Steve would never admit it, tommy's comment left a sour weight in his chest. His jaw clenched as he watched he watched Athena talk to Jonathan and make him laugh. A sudden clarity settled over him. He had Nancy. Anything he felt now was just a product of exhaustion, nothing more.
What Steve didn't realise was that Nancy was feeling the same way he did when she was looking at Jonathan and Athena.
I walked towards Dustin after school got over. Jonathan had told me he's going to see his father and ask him if he knows anything About will. So I through I'll to talk to Dustin About going to search for will with the party.
"Hey little shit. When do you wanna go and look for will?" I asked Dustin as I ruffled his Hair.
" don't do thattt" he pushed my hands off his hair making me roll my eyes. He looked around to see if anyone saw us and let out a sigh of relief when he saw no one noticed him.
" we are just going to Mike's house to see what happened to the girl. I'll reach you on the walkie If we need anything okay??" Dustin informed me
"Okayyy I guess. I'll be going over to Steve's hous-" Dustin and lucas didn't even give me a chance to finish my sentence
"Steve as In Steve Harrington?? Oh my god ewww Athena" "you're going to his house?? Isn't that Nancy's boyfriend??" "When did you switch boyfriends?" "I'm gonna tell everyone I'm adopted"
I gaped at both of them with wide eyes, wondering if they've gone Insane. "Would you let me complete my sentence. I'm going to Steve's house WITH Nancy and barb. She didn't wanna go alone so I'm accompanying her. That's it. Plus I would rather gouge my own eyes out than date Steve Harrington. It's honestly disgusting. And Jonathan is not my boyfriend so if you don't want to get your ass beaten up, i suggest you to stop saying it. I'll see you two later. Don't die without me. Bye"
"TAKE YOUR WALKIE WITH YOU" Lucas shouted after me
I just showed them thumbs up and went up home. I needed to take care of something before heading out for the night
I sat in my room, blindfolds over my eyes, curtains shut, the room locked. I settled down on the floor, drawing in a steady breath. My eyes closed as Scarlett energy spiraled around me. The powers lifted me just enough to unmoor me from the ground. Lights flickered and pushed as I push past everything else away, reaching through the darkness of my mind, to find will.
Something was pushing me back. Like i was blocked by a door that was shut long ago. Finding people had never been my strength. Still i pushed through the strain, forcing the connection. The longer i try to reach will, the heavier i felt. Dizziness crept in, my vision started getting blurry and finally my strength gave out.
I was not 100 percent sure this would work but it wouldn't Hurt giving it a try right? I take off the blindfolds and see the time. I have to go pick up Nancy with barb. I started getting ready to go to Steve's party.
Steve Harrington. The name itself causes a feeling of irritation in my heart. It was not always like this with Steve. When i came back to town, i made friends with Steve quite fast. I liked how he was sweet enough to be patient with me and handle me acting like a cavemen because I knew nothing about how world worked.
I mean I basically only have ever been in the lab. I did not know anything About pop culture or movies or like anything at all. All i knew to do was eat, train, play, sleep, repeat. If anyone has to blamed, its pap- nope, it's dr brenner.
Steve was my best friend for like a month before he went and told people I used to be a druggie with a x tattoo on my wrist. Well not literally but technically. Tommy H started this rumour and Steve just encouraged it. Pretty sure best friends don't do it. He tried to apologise but the damage is done. The entire school called me a freak, casted me out.
Then i met Jonathan who offered me a seat next to him during lunch and Nancy who helped me with my math homework. Since then mine and Steve's relationship have always been rocky. I hate him. I showed him my tattoo cause I trusted him. He proved me men cannot be trusted. Both in lab, in outside world.
I looked at myself In the mirror one last time. My white shirt all crinkled up. My blue jean had hints of mud stain i got from when i was looking for will In the woods with Jonathan. I opened the door and stepped out but stopped in my tracks. I walked back into the room, took the walkie and threw it in my Backpack, before heading downstairs. Nancy owes me big time.
"What are we doing here?? His house is three blocks away" barb asked as she stopped the car abruptly. I looked straight ahead, boredom etched on to my face.
"We can't park in the drive away" nancy replied. "This is ridiculous" I rolled my eyes at her
Barb stared at her, disbelief written all over her face "are you serious?"
"Yeah" nancy replied unfazed "the neighbours might see"
Barb stared at nancy before saying "this is so stupid. I'm just gonna drop you off"
"Calm down, barb. Come on. You promised that you'd go. You're coming" Nancy tried to convince barb. "We are gonna have a great time" Nancy smiled at Her
"He just wants to get in you pants" barb scoffed at nancy. I let out a sigh. Here we go
"No, he doesn't" nancy chuckled nervously. I looked at Nancy with raised brows "whatever makes you sleep at night nance"
Nancy turned to give me a pointed look before barb caught her attention again "nance...seriously. He invited you to his house. His parents aren't home. Come on, you are not this stupid"
"Tommy H and carol are gonna be there" Nancy defended herself. Yes Tommy H and carol, sure.
"Tommy and carol have been having sex since, like, seventh grade" I shook my head.
"It'll probably just be, like, a big orgy" barb retorted with a small smile growing on her lips
"Omg eww barb, imagesss" I said at the same time Nancy scrunched up her nose in disgust "gross" barb just laughed at us
"I'm serious!!" Barb laughed again. Nancy rolled her eyes before replying "well, alright.. you and thena can be, like, my guardian. All right??" Nancy looked at us smiling " both of you can make sure I don't get drunk and do anything stupid"
I quietly laughed under my breath. I looked up just in time to see nancy changing her clothes. It took me a minute to notice
" is that a new bra, nancy wheeler?" I questioned her with a teasing smile on my face.
"No" Nancy blinked at us. Red blush coating her cheeks and ears. I looked at Nancy coyly "wrap it before you tap it, my child" I smirked at nancy
We walked up to Steve's front door. It's been a year since I last came here. Nancy nervously rang the door bell.
"Barb chill" Nancy assured. Barb gave her a steady look and said " I'm chill"
Steve opened the door, looking straight at me first and then barb and Nance. "Hello, ladies. Come In"
Nancy and barb walked in first. As i was about to enter the house, steve blocked the entrance with his hands "what is the magic word to enter" Steve smiled at me
"What are you? Five?? Move it, Harrington" i snapped at him. Why does he have to be so damn annoying all the Damn time.
"Well I can't let you in till you say the magic word, so unless you wanna freeze out in the porch, I'd advise you to answer the question" he leaned on the wall, with his arms crossed, and leaned closer to me.
"Do you enjoy tormenting people and make them lose their mind?? I glared up at him. He is really starting to get on my nerves now
" no." He paused looking at me. Just when I thought he's gonna let me in. "I just like making you lose your mind" he met my gaze, with a slow teasing grin.
I felt my face heating up. I'm gonna kill him one of these days. "I-i d-don't know the magic word" i stuttered. Idiot. idiot. Idiot. Why did i have to stutter.
"You can come in Athena" steve invited me in, a smug look of satisfaction spreading on his face.
I huffed and Brushed past him. It's going to be a long fucking night.
