I've wanted to do this for a long time.
I've been fascinated with Slavic mythology for a while; I grew up with these tales, and they're very dear to me. But I really wanted to give these characters a new look, in my own style, of course.
Probably the most popular character from Slavic mythology, Yaga. She turned out very simple, but she has a wonderful silhouette. I didn't want to portray her as overly sinister or flashy, as is typical; I wanted to transform her, but she's still old, but still looks good, and her body is bony.
Leshy's image is probably my favorite. A monstrous tree with several arms, using its roots to move. Its eyes are butterflies that can move independently of its main body. Just imagining it growing new leaves, turning yellow, and shedding its leaves thrills me. And like any self-respecting Leshy, it has a long beard, made of leaves and branches.
Poludnitsa is a bit of a mystery to me, but I enjoyed creating her image. Fierce and dangerous, with a long braid. Her legs and arm resemble coals, and the flowers on her crown are her eyes.
Tsikavats, I'm not sure anyone knows him, at least not widely. I'd skip the method of birth and focus on his bird-like appearance and the fact that he's considered a harbinger of misfortune. I wanted to give him a truly mysterious air, like someone you wouldn't want to meet because it bodes ill.
Waterman and his mermaids. I like the versions where Waterman and the mermaids actively interact. The main parts of his image are his beard, the hair that completely covers his head, and his eyes, which grow into mustaches like catfish. Regarding the mermaids, not all versions of Slavic mythology depict mermaids with tails, so I decided to base my image on that. But the main parts of their image are their hair and white eyes with tears flowing from them.
