DANGEROUS LIAISONS (1988) DIR. STEPHEN FREARS
Hi! 2, 9, 14 for the books ask :)
2. Did you reread anything? What? i fully intended to reread why mummy drinks by gill sims, because i've totally lost track of where i am in the series and i need to start again, but i haven't managed it yet.
9. Did you get into any new genres? i mean, i read a few books from genres i wouldn't usually read and enjoyed some of them a lot?? the most notable were wild and wicked things by francesca may (historical fantasy), our wives under the sea by julia armfield (horror), piranesi by susanna clarke (magical realism).
14. What books do you want to finish before the year is over? i'm currently reading the christmas jigsaw murders by alexandra benedict, so it'd be nice to finish that over christmas :) idk whether i'll be able to finish another one before the year ends and i mostly just go on vibes when deciding what to read next, but it'll probably be a murder of crows by sarah yarwood-lovett, which i found in a charity shop the other day (cosy murder mystery is one of my favourite genres!)
end-of-year book ask

Oh I don’t mind that kind of narration for sure;) Altough in some books it feels like over the top,it depends I guess. But yes,The Reivers are not like that at all;)
I loooooove that kind of narration... when done properly. If it's done to make something seem profound instead of for some artistic purpose, it can be annoying. Sort of like when people write academic articles using big words just to show that they can use big words-- instead of coming across as intelligent, they fail to make their point well.

Same,I don’t read as much as I used to either. But I actually read quite recently Faulkner’s The Reivers and I loved it,need to read his other works ;)
I've never even heard of The Reivers (again: there's SO MUCH I want to read/learn about literature), but I would definitely recommend reading more Faulkner if you liked one of his works. The Sound and the Fury, IIRC, can be a bit confusing until you figure out what's going on. I think I remember reading the first portion over again immediately after I finished the book. That said, I'm looking at the Wikipedia page for The Reivers right now and it says it's a straightforward narration and... The Sound and the Fury is most definitely not straightforward (it's a variety of things, including stream of consciousness), and I believe Light in August has a non-linear structure or relies heavily on flashbacks or a combination of both.Â
