I'm not lying but calamities actually bring out our fullest potential. There are two types of people in this world: one that cries out helplessness and weakness at the onset of a tribulation and the other that rolls up their sleeves to face it with all their might & wit. Past 12 days have been quite mind altering and life altering for me as an individual and also as to my inseparable connection to my larger community. While the news headlines and social media posts are highlighting every aspect of life that's being affected - from political stability to economic disruption to physical casualties etc etc - my attention is drawn to something invisible: the mental damage. The mind, that's the target of enemies from all sides. As a resident of the UAE, we have been the most peacefully coexisting community with over 200 nationalities living shoulder to shoulder and somehow we have now become the target of global powers and their rivalries, being dragged into a catastrophic war that could have been avoided.
Nevertheless in times like these something has triggered in me. Our minds can actually embrace a situation no matter how bad it gets and really come out of it unscratched. It suddenly took me back to our ancestral roots. When we were surrounded by wild predators and a terrifying jungle where even the slightest sound could awaken our body's natural alarm system putting us on a complete alert mode. We created our own weaponry by sharpening objects to strike, by creating bows to shoot and by hiding in camouflage to attack the enemies instead of falling a prey. It is in us. The mind carries all that it needs to survive through our ancestral heritage.
In times like these every individual becomes a commander in chief in their own little way. We take precautions. We build strategies. We even project worst case scenarios so that we ensure the safety and security of our loved ones. Now the way things are spiralling up and the regional war is having global impacts, the coming days will determine the future of human history.
I just pray that some lunatics don't keep any nuclear options on the table and I hope that somehow both sides finally give up this insane mass destruction for the larger good of humanity. But I know that's just my naive mind falsely wishing. This is a fire that has been sparked on earth which can only be extinguished by some divine miracle from heaven...
so we've all seen the WAR! update comic, and we've all seen this panel:
since then, many people have sat down and wondered. huh. what exactly are Demo's other two jobs?
this is a mystery i'm pretty sure i've figured out.
JOB 1: DEMOLITIONS MAN FOR TFI
needs literally no explanation. he is the demo, boom goes his ammo, etc etc. moving on.
JOB 2 OPTION 1: HOUSE CLEANER
the source for this one is kind of obscure
this could have been meant as a joke about him destroying everything in sight with his bombs? but who knows really. chances are it is, seeing as everyone else's "tag" involves what they do killingwise. i'm too neurdivergent for jokes man.
JOB 2 OPTION 2: BUSINESS OWNER
This is the Scottish Handshake melee:
it's unknown, as far as i'm aware, as to whether or not Degroot's Rum is a company still run by the 1960s in the tf2verse. still, if it is, it's likely Demo at least has a large managerial input in the company. maybe there's some unknown Degroot cousins technically in charge of the whole thing? hard to say.
JOB 3: THEME PARK OWNER
the 2010 Australian Christmas update on the tf2 website claims that the reason medieval mode exists is because Soldier pissed off Merasmus for the 63697343th time.
however, on the Degroot' Keep map, (the only medieval one actually made by Valve,) there are some computer terminals hidden around the place and even some tire tracks. this led the people on the wiki to deduce that Merasmus only sent the mercs to some kind of theme park.
a theme park most likely owned by the Degroots, seeing as it is named after them. congratulations to Demo on owning a theme park and successfully lying about it to the rest of the team.
Ohhh I guess I can post this! Bc I forgot! Bc I drew it while I wasn't posting on here! My panel for the WAR! comic redraw hosted by @tf2heritageposts (and thought up in a conversation with me... bats my eyes cutely). I messed around w the composition quite a bit, in retrospect this is very messy but it was a fun style thing for me!
[ID: First, a redraw of a panel from the tf2 War! comic. On the left side is Soldier, dressed in a blue t-shirt and a blue helmet, is crouched behind a long metal box, flinging one arm up as if to cover his eyes (which are already obscured by the helmet). He is grimacing dramatically and a speech bubble for him exclaims "Good Lord, no!" On the right side is a man in a gray trench coat and white gloves, holding his trench coat open and revealing a bright light. An action word reads "Flash!" The background is dark blue.
Second, the original panel. The composition is similar, although Soldier is much smaller and not holding his hand up, and the man in the trench coat is positioned in the center and with his whole body visible. End ID]

The Gaza Health Ministry said that the Israeli army had killed 10,022 people in Gaza, including more than 4,100 children and 2,600 women, and about 140 Hamas fighters. More than 2,300 more people are missing in Gaza and believed buried under the rubble of destroyed buildings.
Some 800,000 civilians have evacuated the embattled north Gaza, but hundreds of thousands more remain in harm's way due to Israeli attacks making leaving the area just as dangerous.
The Israeli army said 30 of their troops have been killed since their ground invasion began a week ago, in response to last month's Hamas attack that left 1400 Israelis dead and some 240 taken hostage.
Hamas and other militant groups have continued firing rockets into Israel, disrupting daily life, though most are intercepted or fall harmlessly in open areas. Yesterday, Israel rejected the UN's call for a ceasefire to allow refugees to escape the invaded region.
— HUGE ROCKET BARRAGE from GAZA… Tel Aviv and surrounds, including the airport. (6:00 PM). The major evening barrage is becoming a trend.
— RUSSIA MEETS HAMAS… senior Hamas delegation in Russia today.
— TURKEY SAYS… Erdogan: Israel's attacks are barbaric and no longer fall under the definition of self-defense. The Western countries provide weapons to Israel unconditionally instead of calling for calm, and ignore the violation of international law because the blood that was spilled is Muslim blood.
— QATAR SAYS… "I hope that all the citizens can be released within days. But it will not happen before the cessation of hostilities. Any Israeli ground attack - will make it much more difficult. The humanitarian situation in Gaza is very critical.” (( This was the point of hostage taking, to tie Israel’s hands. ))
— HOSTAGE NEGOTIATION? Report in the Palestinian Al-Quds newspaper: Qatar offered a formula for the release of the kidnapped Israeli citizens - in exchange for humanitarian relief.
— THE NETHERLANDS SAYS… Dutch Prime Minister Rutte: Israel must immediately allow access of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
— BELGIUM SAYS… Belgian Prime Minister de Croux: The siege of Gaza is unacceptable and must be stopped immediately.
— FRANCE SENDS TO GAZA… The French Navy ship Tonnerre left for the Eastern Mediterranean to provide aid and support to the hospitals in the Gaza Strip.
— IDF OOPSIE… Seven residents of Ma'alot-Tarshiha, a northern Israeli town near the Lebanon border, arrived at the hospital in Nahariya after their homes were damaged by a fallen IDF drone.
— BRITISH AIRWAYS… Due to the ongoing war, British Airways has temporarily suspended all flights to Israel until (at least) the 15th of November.
— HEBREW UNIVERSITY… The Hebrew University opened its doors to 150 children who were evacuated with their families from Sderot, allowing them to maintain a study routine even during the war, turning the university into a regular childrens school.
— FOOD IMPORTS… (Min. Of Health) in order to avoid issues with supply of food to Israel, food label standards requiring red (salt/sugar) markings will not be enforced. Nor Hebrew labeling for water. It is noted that all water, even bottled water, should be boiled if being used for babies or toddler food prep.
Yet to see the UN condemn Hamas for the video of Hamas graffiti marking Gazans beating them with batons, then leaving them tied up and blindfolded — because the civilians had tried to access food aid at the humanitarian warehouse.
Instead, UN officials claim the canard “targeted starvation campaign”, yet there are over 1,150 trucks still waiting to be collected at Kerem and Erez Crossings. Commercial trucks have armed guards riding atop, the UN should do the same and stop blaming Israel.
