The revamped wampa ice creature, a carnivorous, semi-sentient white-furred primitive species of mammal which dwelled on the snow-clad planet Hoth, from the American epic space opera film, "STAR WARS -- Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (Special Edition), theatrically re-released in 1997.

For May 3rd, let's talk about this rather insane snow globe that ThinkGeek put out back when they were in business. I saw a photo of it somewhere (probably on Tumblr!) and had to have it. The only problem is that little pieces are constantly breaking off. In one move, my wampa lost his thumb (the one hidden behind the globe) and today when I turned it upside down to make Hoth snow, to take pix for y'all, another little claw tumbled, without reason, to the table.

Loose Wampa figures often yellow but are easy to find. Hasbro’s late-’90s Wampa was a new sculpt.

Released in 1982, the Wampa has always been see as part of the standard Star Wars action figure line, and featured spring-loaded arms. It debuted in Kenner’s Toy Fair catalog that year, the last for the Empire Strikes Back line, and came in three box variations: The first showed the Wampa on the left dragging a Rebel Commander; the second had it on the right with Luke Hoth. Box backs and titles differed—early versions read “Wampa,” later changed to “Hoth Wampa.” The earlier is rarer and more valuable, and a late-run second version included a rebate offer.
