i originally named them violet and poppy to follow the flower theme (AND APPARENTLY ORANGE POPPIES ARE CALLED “PRINCE OF ORANGE” WHICH IS TOO PERFECT) but it felt too on the nose so i gave them secondary names LOL

So it's been said that waluigi likes daisy, but she doesn't return his feelings. They go to these sporting events in all the various Mario installments and there's always this awkward or negative energy between them. But consider this, they're actually EXES, and everyone around them is aware. Waluigi is still very hung up on her, and is always trying to come onto her, or asking her to take him back. Daisy is just like, nah! Leave me alone! *Punches him in the face during boxing*

But lemme explain. My idea for their relationship requires some backstory. So picture this: Daisy, waluigi and wario were actually friends, and a part of a very successful competitive athlete trio. This is based on their debut in Mario tennis, which made them counterparts to peach, Mario, and Luigi. They were RUTHLESS and brutal sportsmen. They had their differences; warios strength comes from his overall body/muscle strength, this makes him good in sports like weightlifting, boxing, hammer throwing, etc. Waluigi is good in endurance based sports, like long distance running, tennis, and cycling. Daisy excels in sports that require strategy and precision, like soccer. And it was their differences that made them such a good team.

Daisy and waluigi, however, had something really special. They were PROFESSIONAL LATIN DANCE PARTNERS!!!! They were absolutely SAVAGE on the dance floor, and no one came close to their dancing prowess. They won gold after gold and were nothing short of untouchable. (Of course this is where waluigi gets his thing with the rose + being all romantic!!) They were also in a serious relationship, and it was a fiery, passionate romance.

But, it ended. My main idea for what happened is that daisy was kidnapped by tatanga, and waluigi chickened out and ran instead of trying to rescue her. I'm imagining them winning yet another latin final gold, and they're walking outside. Waluigi is confessing his love for her (like always) but maybe this time…. about pull out a ring?? I'm not sure about that but they were definitely serious enough to consider marriage. I just like to imagine waluigi being more nervous than usual around her and daisy being like "babe what's wrong?" but also a little amused to see him so bashful. not sure about the details but they were having an "I love you so much let's be together forever," moment. Then tatanga shows up out of nowhere and waluigi books it. Later, Mario's confused when he rescues daisy because she's all upset and crying, but it's obviously not about the kidnapping. 

That, or their relationship turned sour somehow.

Either way, after that the energy is always a little awkward around them. Waluigi still loves her and isn't afraid to show it. Daisy is trying to move on, but maybe… there's a small part of her that enjoys all the attention and keeping him on his toes. And maybe, just maybe… she still has feelings for him?

MANY.

1) daisy initially dislikes waluigi because she just sees him as mean and crude. In reality, he acts the way he does for attention. something happens and it dawns on waluigi that the way he's acting is a defense mechanism and that it lowkey (more like HIGHKEY) affects others too. as he makes active attempts to change his ways, daisy starts to see the real him and starts falling for him. effort's attractive!

2) it gets better over time, but waluigi will sometimes have this overwhelming feeling of being unwanted and incompetent and useless. daisy has similar downspirals (i read a fic once where daisy isn't truly respected as a leader and isn't taken seriously bc she started her reign while she was super young, being constantly being told she'll never amount to anything by her dad, etc. i like this background for her, as sad as it is). they bond over this shared angst

3) not rly a headcanon but i started writing a super edgy (unapologetic edge for the sake of edge LOL) waludaisy fic where waluigis trying to break from warios gang or crew or whatever (paints wario in a bad light. sorry wario lovers, i swear its nothing personal, i have nothing against you or wario, its just for edgy plot purposes 😭) and from all the bad history associated with it. this gang or who they work for or whatever is tied to daisy somehow but neither realize it. the fic is basically daisy and waluigi trying to protect each other from the same evil without really disclosing or communicating why or what theyre doing and acting kinda weird/secretive/sus about it all so as to not concern the other. so it leads to frustration that they need to work out, ironing out their interpersonal conflict so they can unite against a common enemy. itd be an established relationship and i kinda wanna give them kids in the fic so theres more at stake 😭 LMFAO lmk if anyone wants this fic, it is, again, stupidly edgy for the sake of edge written totally for fun (which i know isnt everyones thing)

4) they are SO petty. even after all this personal growth and strengthening of their relationship they CAN and WILL argue over the stupidest shit. but they love it. theyre definitely the type to pick fights with each other/bully each other affectionately. but, of course, only when appropriate. if one senses that the other is having a rough day/fighting some demons they won't engage in the pettiness. they are instead very cuddly!

5) i think ive mentioned this before but daisy 100% wakes up at like 4 AM to exercise for 3 hours and waluigi rolls out of bed at like noon and cant walk up a flight of stairs without fucking dying. hes so me-coded fr

6) daisy teases him for his lankiness but she loves it, really

BASICALLY TO ME THEYRE JUST A STORY OF PERSONAL GROWTH AND LEARNING TO OVERCOME DIFFERENCES/GROW TOGETHER AND I AM SUCH A SUCKER FOR THAT SHIT <333333
