After the second world war, the Soviet Union controlled all forms of artistic expression in their country as they felt they did not align with communist ideals they were trying to impose. Therefore, all Western culture was banned from entering the Soviet Union and even Soviet culture was censored and deemed criminal. However, the people yearned for the music! This led to the rise of bootleggers who recorded their own vinyl or tapes. Building your own recording equipment was easy however, the first big challenge that the bootleggers faced was obtaining the vinyl to record over. An individual got the idea to use x-ray plates, as they were of similar material as vinyl, and could be obtained from the garbage behind the hospitals. This led to the creation of “BONE MUSIC” as SONGS WERE RECORDED OVER XRAY IMAGES  of different skeletal parts and shared across the Soviet Union.
