Summary: This story takes place in the Mystery Dungeon AU I’ve been working on for a while and hold dear to my heart. For this first, it takes place in the Mystery Dungeon AU where everyone is a pokemon. Stan and Ford are Alolan and Kantoian Meowth's respectively and their parents Filbrick and Caryn are a Perserker and Kantoian Persian, and Shermie is a Perserker. How I interpret it as what kind of pokemon they are is determined by genetics and not by game mechanics. Depending on a pokemon's ancestry can determine what pokemon will be born. Other characters such as my ocs Andrea Pereira and Lucina Evergreen are here, too, and they are an Eevee and Shiny Kanotian Vulpixen respectively. Hope this explains things and enjoy this for Week One of @stanuary and onwards! Chapter 1 is here on AO3, too.
Team Mystery
Stan, a young Alolan Meowth, awoke early in the morning and would nudge his twin to wake from his sleep, eager to get up and go for this particular day. The day they start a new adventure.
“Sixer, wake up!” the young Alolan Meowth urged his Kantoian counterpart.
“Mrow!” Ford yowled. “What, Stanley?” He rubbed his tired eyes with a six-toed paw.
“Today’s the day we’re gonna start our explorers team! Team Mystery!” Despite knowing him and his brother aren’t old enough to become a professional, recognized adventure team by the Explorer’s Guild standard’s, yet, that wasn’t going to stop Stan and his brother from getting a start at it. Ford’s lips formed a bright smile as he put on his glasses and leaped down from his bed. Stan hoped one day to meet the founder and leader himself to work with. Stan pulls out the carrying case from under the bed that contains the items they think they’ll need for this adventure they have planned. Once they find something to do, that is.
The two have their breakfast and leave a note for their parents to find, taking some berries and other food for later before heading out the door and outside into the streets. The beach town was bustling with pokemon going about their own business, most of them being water types given the town is by the ocean on the east coast.
Stan and Ford were making their way to the local bulletin board just outside of the Peliper Postal Office when a thought occurred with Stan.
“Oh wait! We forgot to invite Andy and Lucy!” Stan just remembered their Eevee and Shiny Vulpix friends who make their team complete. Stan was over the moon when the girls accepted his and Ford’s offer to become part of their unofficial team. And since it was summer, Lucy would be around for their summer adventures. He’d hate to leave the two out of their adventures in exploring, rescuing and seeking out treasure.
Thankfully, Ford seemed to find the two ahead of them when he pointed at them.
“Seems like they got a head start.” Stan and Ford go up to the two who were looking at the bulletin board, scanning for the tasks they’re able to do and succeed in. Each job ranked from letters E to S, S being the highest and way beyond what the four are capable of.
“Hey, girls!” Stan greeted.
“Stan! Ford!” Andrea greeted the two meowths, her tail wagging in eagerness. “Me and Lucy managed to get here first! Think we can solve some mysteries around here.” Lucy pointing at the jobs listed. This piques the twin’s interests as they scan the board and see which ones seem more interesting and can get them more rewards. Stan slapped at the C level job that’s within their area.
“We can do this one!” Stan pulled the entry down that reads: ‘ Can someone find my basket? I lost it somewhere in Question Mark Cove. Will reward 400 coins. ’ Ford gave an affirming nod.
“Question Mark Cove? I think we can manage a trip there. I believe it's only ten levels down.”
“Perfect! We find this basket and get my – I mean our money. Split it evenly.” Andrea giggled, figuring Stan may take more of the share. Lucina rolled her eyes, but she was looking forward to exploring a cove.
“Ascot, look what we have here!” directed a Minun named Dicky to his Plusle brother as they approached the board. “New jobs! And a couple of wannabe adventurers who don’t even have official badges!” The Sibling brothers were still sore about how Stan and Ford and Andrea got the better of them last summer.
“Hey! We’ll get ours one day.” pouted Andrea.
“Yeah, go get your own jobs and shove off, sparkplugs.” Stan stuck his tongue out and pulled down his lower eyelid to mock them. The Sibling Brothers look at the group and let out a haughty laugh.
“Oh, we will. We’re going for something more… rewarding.” Dicky would leap up the bulletin board and retrieve a wanted poster of a criminal pokemon that appears to be a rough-looking Carrascosta. Ascot finished.
“Such as apprehending a criminal and collecting the bounty in Question Mark Cove.” The two leave laughing at the four dumbstruck pokemon behind to go off to fulfill the job. Stan was fuming as he couldn’t let this slide. He wasn’t going to let those jerks discourage him, his brother and friends.
“How ‘bout we go get that basket and get that bounty.” Ford, Lucina and Andrea gasped.
“Wait, what? We can’t do that. It’s something adults do, not us kids.” Lucina reasoned, scared about confronting a bigger and stronger pokemon they’re not prepared to face.
“Those two have no idea what they’re up against.” Ford watched the twins go towards the cove. They too were children as well. Stan mustered up the confidence to give the three and himself the morale they needed.
“Come on! With the four of us working together and using our moves, there’s nothing we can’t do. We’ll face whatever is down there and come back here to complete the job!” The three young pokemon looked between each other and smiled at Stan.
“We can give it a shot.” Ford approved, having a backup plan should things go south in having packed an escape orb.
Later down the Question Mark Cove…
The four pokemon managed to handle themselves against the opposing pokemon in the cove during their escapade down into the levels. They even managed to find the missing basket intact. However, they hadn’t seen the Sibling brothers since entering inside. Which Ford would point out.
“Do you think they’re in trouble? Wouldn’t hurt to check.”
“If the criminal got them, good riddance.” dismissed Stan. Something Lucina didn’t like.
“It would be wrong to just leave them alone down here to die.” Andrea sighed, seeing her friend speak true.
“Yeah, even if they are stupid jerks, they’re still kids like us.”
“Fine, let’s go find them.”
The four proceed down into the tenth and final floor of the cove and find what looks to be a makeshift hideout, no doubt belonging to the criminal, but no sign of the Sibling brothers. Stan and Ford call out for them.
“Hey! Dick and Asshole! Call out if you hear us!” Andrea giggled in response to Stan swearing.
“Did you catch the crook?”
They hear nothing for a second under loud, thundering footprints could be heard. It was the wanted Carracosta that goes by the name Crush the Undertow. His shell and maw riddled with visible scars from previous confrontations. He let out an uproar of laughter.
“Ye friends yer lookin’ fer are here no longer!” Crush lumbered over. “They turned their tails and ran off in fear of I, Crush the Undertow!” Stan and Ford growled, figuring the brothers would do something like this.
“Well we’re going to beat you ourselves!” challenged Stan and unsheathed his claws.
“Yeah, we’re not scared of you!” Andrea braced herself and her fur bristled. Ford and Lucina preparing for a fight.
Crush slapped his hard chest and bellowed.
“Then have at the, children! Give me a challenge! ”
It would be a challenging battle for the four young pokemon. Crush wasn’t holding back against the four, using his rock and water moves to get the upper hand. Stan, Ford, Lucina and Andrea have to act quick to try to dodge the attacks, and give it their all in turn. Ford didn’t have enough left to use against Crush, having used much of what they had and found throughout the cove. Ford could see they’re no match for this beast of a pokemon. Lucina having gotten knocked out upon getting hit against the wall, and Andrea getting her out to safety.
“We have to retreat!”
Crush targeted Ford and taunted.
“Ye not gonna run away like cowards are ye?!” Crush opened his mouth and released a high pressure amount of water at Ford. Stan would bound and leap to use his claws to deliver a strong swipe of his claws, aiming for the mouth and was successful, leading Crush to be off his aim. But it left Stan open to be attacked by Crush using his flipper to slam Stan against the wall and pin him there.
“Ya nicked me good, boy, but this ends now.”
Ford brought out the blast seed to use as a last resort to eat it, and unleashed a strong enough force to hit Crush and knock him down, releasing the injured Stan. Ford rushed over to help Stan up and give him an oran berry.
“Come on, Stan, get up.” Stan chewed and swallowed the rejuvenating berry that helped a little. “We need to go help the girls and tell the Magezone Chief about this.” Stan nodded at his brother, a lot ringing in his mind and thinking this could have gone better.
They hear steps coming towards them and it was none other than the Sibling Brothers, never having left. The plusle and minun clapping their paws.
“Well done!”
“Yes, very good! You defeated the crook in our place.” Stan and Ford glared at the two.
“You… you cowards! You got us to fight your battle so you can claim credit! You two could have taken him down with being electric types.” Dickie and Ascot would scoff, not having shame in it.
“And you did a fine job.”
“Saved us the trouble without using up our own resources to do it. Let us offer a deal.” Ascot presents. “You let us have this and we’ll put in a good word to have you and your team become a recognized rescue team with badges and everything from the Explorer’s Guild.”
“That is not what being an explorer is about, Sibling Brothers.” A strong voice spoke from behind them. The four boys turned to see a stoic Lucario and two of his teammates, a Pidgeot and Blissey, tending to Andrea and Lucina’s injuries. They heard everything admitted. “I’m immensely disappointed in you two for using others to fight your battles and perform your tasks, taking credit for their efforts while you’ve done none.” The plusle and minun cowered, fearing the worst was going to happen. And it does. “As the leader and founder of the Explorer’s Guild, I hereby strip you of your rank and badges, banished from the Explorer’s Guild henceforth.” He reached and opened his paw to take the badges away. Reluctantly, Dicky and Ascot relinquished their badges and carrying case and took a walk of shame out of the cove.
Stan and Ford were astonished by what just happened. The founder and leader himself, Ryland, along with his team to rescue them. Stan was relieved to see things were going to be okay, but feels guilty he got the girls and his brother into this mess.
Ryland turned to Stan and Ford. “We’ll take care of this, you and your friends need to be treated.” Stan and Ford nodded up and took their leave to get treated by the Blissey named Belle.
“Your friends sent out an SOS and we were the first to receive it,” Belle smiled as she bandaged up Lucina. “Good thing we did. You four were very brave.” Hearing that made Stan feel a bit better, but he felt guilt over endangering his brother and friends.
“I’m sorry, guys, we should have retreated sooner,” Stan lowered his head. Ford, Andrea and Lucina showed weak smiles.
“Don’t be down, Stan, things got messy and we turned out alive,” reassured Andrea. “And we found the basket to take back to the client looking for it.” The pidgeot named Soarin would offer.
“If I may, I can help deliver it swiftly and without delay. I assure you that I will give you four full credit for your efforts. What should I call your group?”
“Team Mystery,” the four young pokemon agreed.
The next day…
Stan and Ford are called from downstairs by their mom as they got a letter.
“Hey, boys! You have mail!” Their mother Caryn the Kantoian Persian smiled. “And from the Explorer’s Guild no less.”
“Wait, what?” Stan and Ford questioned. The two read the letter, and from what they determined, they are offered to join the Explorer’s Guild. In addition, some of the reward money that came from not only returning the basket to the client looking for it, but part of the bounty from apprehending the criminal carracosta. Stan couldn’t believe it. His dream was coming true.
“We can be official explorers! Badges and everything!” Stan beamed ear to ear. Ford liked the sound of that. “Team Mystery is in business!”
“I like the sound of that, Stan, but let’s stick with what we can handle before we aim for higher jobs.”
“It’s a deal, Sixer.” It was the beginning of a new adventure.

Summary: Dipper and Mabel return to Gravity Falls and are greeted by old and new faces in the family.
Chapter One Arrival
Ten months later…
It didn’t feel like almost a year had passed since that fateful summer and it was the first of June again, but Dipper and Mabel and Waddles were making their way to Gravity Falls on the same bus they took the year prior. Life went on in the lives of the twins and their family. It was decided by Dipper and Mabel’s parents to move to Portland where Alex, Dipper and Mabel’s dad, was granted to transfer for a promising computer job opportunity in the city. The twins looked forward to being closer to their extended family in Oregon. And of course to be staying in Gravity Falls for the foreseeable future ahead of them. Dipper and Mabel’s parents thought it best that given their children’s situation.
The recent passing of Shermie seven months ago left them little reason to stay in Piedmont any longer. The loss fell hard on the family, but like they always did, they got through it together and mourned. Dipper and Mabel had since added their grandfather’s name and image to never forget him and how kind and patient he was.
Dipper sported the hat Wendy gave to him right before him and Mabel left for home all those months ago, having kept it in good condition and washed it often enough. Dipper changed his wardrobe by wearing a blue plaid jacket with a white shirt underneath, wearing brown pants and blue and white sneakers. Among Dipper’s luggage lies his own journal with a pine tree symbol.
Mabel has since changed up her wardrobe to include a shooting-star pink top, fashioning her hair to appear layered and wavy, blue striped skirt, and black soles with colorful knee-high socks. And instead of a headband, Mabel wore a red bow in her long brown hair. Waddles sat by her side, having grown larger over the course of the months as domestic farm pigs do, and too heavy for Mabel to pick up anymore, but she didn’t mind this.
Dipper and Mabel kept in touch with all their friends and family; entering their dreams often made it easier, having visited before during the holidays and special occasions. Back in December, the twins attended their aunt Shannon’s wedding when she got married to Clyde Bone, the old flame of Shannon’s whom they assisted in removing the cursed ring of Nimue from his finger after five years. Shannon was now the stepmother of Clyde’s young son Drake, and from what the twins heard, the couple adopted twins recently and they couldn’t wait to see the new family members. And couldn’t wait to see their grunkles and graunties when they heard they’ll be coming back to Gravity Falls from their seafaring trip to Antarctica.
Soon enough, Dipper and Mabel and Waddles find their stop in Gravity Falls. They were greeted by their grunkle Stan and Ford who were waving at them and excited to see them. The three in the bus practically were rushing to get their belongings, but making sure they had everything before they got out and went to embrace the two old men.
“Grunkle Stan! Grunkle Ford!” Mabel exclaimed. “You smell like sea water and waffles!” That made Stan and Ford laugh with her and pat her back.
“Just had waffles and my signature Stancakes for breakfast, pumpkin. Which are waiting for you guys at the shack!” Stan announced that got the twins looking forward more.
“Yeah!”
“Stancakes!”
Stan and Ford would also give Dipper a big hug as well.
“We missed you kids so much, even if we see you often enough in our dreams.” Dipper chuckled.
“The feeling’s mutual, Great-Uncle Ford. We’ve been doing good, we think. Not going into people’s memories without their permission, also.”
“Good, good.” Ford pets the large pig, recognizing him as Waddles. “Waddles has certainly gotten bigger since the holidays.” The pig delights in the scratches behind the ears. “Luckily, we installed a wagon for him to ride.” Ford thumbs behind him to show the wooden, wheeled wagon with a ramp for the pig to walk into easily. Mabel was impressed, having wondered how they would be able to fit her pig inside the car.
Ford and Stan would help load the twin’s luggage into the Stanleymobile and coax Waddles into the wagon before making the drive to the place that felt like a second home. The Mystery Shack.
At the Mystery Shack…
The twins look out the car window to see how the place has changed. The fallen S from the sign was still in the ground and always will be. Everything else now with Soos in charge being Mr. Mystery as he had the place expanded to make more room for not only new attractions, but the growing family. Melody moved in, and Soos wanted to make sure his grandmother had a room to be comfortable in, while keeping Stan and Carla’s, and Ford and Adeline’s bedrooms intact. And of course Dipper and Mabel’s room in the attic.
“I dig Soos being in charge,” remarked Mabel, reminding her of the time she was boss of the Mystery Shack for three days. “He’s really made some improvements.”
“Among them having been incorporating animatronics with childproof padding to make sure no child gets hurt or worse,” said Ford in sharing one of the new inclusions for the Mystery Shack. “Fiddleford helped create them and it seems to be going smoothly with no incidents.”
Stan parked the car by the shack and he and Ford helped Dipper and Mabel with their luggage and get Waddles out of the wagon. The second Dipper and Mabel stepped out of the car, Soos was the first to step out of the shack to greet the twins. Soos wore the iconic fez hat that Stan passed onto him and the black suit tailor with a red bowtie made for him. Soos was as amiable as ever.
“Dudes, welcome back to the Mystery Shack!”
“There’s our Mr. Mystery!” exclaimed Mabel as her and Dipper approached to give him a hug, the man using his big arms to embrace the twins at once.
“My Pterodactyl-Bro!” Dipper laughed.
“Been too long since I got to hug you both, physically. Dream hugs aren’t the same.” Soos gasped seeing Waddles. “And there’s Waddles! Good to see you too, big boy.” The large pig snorted happily. “How ‘bout we all get inside. Everyone else is waiting.”
“Everyone?” Dipper and Mabel asked together.
Soos opened the wooden door into the living room. Within the living room stood all of the Pines family members, including Wendy among them next to Stanley Jr. Old and new faces gathered together and threw confetti in the air with a colorful banner from the ceiling that read: ‘WELCOME HOME DIPPER AND MABEL’ in blue and pink lettering. Even all of Dipper and Mabel’s best friends Candy; Grenda; David; Kevin; Pacifica; and Mermando are present to see them. The family has grown bigger since Dipper and Mabel came to Gravity Falls last summer. Their older cousin Tanya had her baby girl named Cadence back in December during Hanukkah, having her father Kyle’s black hair, but Tanya’s amber eyes. The infant wore a purple onesie and was held by her second dad Fred. Shannon married Clyde Bone back in November and became Drake’s new mom, as well as having recently adopted two orphaned four-year old twins with blonde hair and green eyes named Connor and Connie who stand next to their brother Drake with the rest of the family and friends.
“WELCOME HOME, DIPPER AND MABEL!” cheered everyone present.
“Hey, family!” Dipper and Mabel greeted their gathered family.
Carla and Adeline were the first to hug Dipper and Mabel and gave the twins each a kiss on the forehead and cheek.
“Grauntie Carla! Grauntie Addi!” Dipper and Mabel happily laugh from the affection shown.
“We missed you so much, kids!” gushed Carla. Instead of sporting a suit and skirt combo she originally wore as Mrs. Mystery, but now, she sported a brown sweater vest with a long sleeved purple top and comfortable black pants and brown boots.
Soon enough, everyone settles and Dipper and Mabel get their breakfast to eat as does Waddles. Family talked among themselves and to Dipper and Mabel while they all ate breakfast.
This is going to be a great summer, thought Dipper and Mabel as they cleared their throats.
“So, everyone,” Dipper began. “Me and Mabel are looking forward to spending our summer with all of you again. And hopefully many more summers to come.” Mabel giggled as she went next to add.
“There will be many more summers because…”
“WE’RE GONNA BE LIVING HERE FROM NOW ON!!!” Everyone in the room was stunned and silent, and only the sneeze from Cadence was heard. But Stan and Ford, and Carla and Adeline already knew the news and wanted to wait until the twins arrived to tell everyone in person. After a second, everyone cheered for the twins and gathered them up in a group hug.
“That means we’re gonna see you in high school!” exclaimed Ty.
“We’re going to show you how to survive high school, dudes!” added Stan Jr.
Dipper and Mabel are sure going to need it when they start high school in September, but it’ll be a while until then. For now, they’re in the present and aim to have another great summer with those they love and care for.
A/N: Hey, all, another chapter done! November was busy and I’m just going to say there is no update schedule, so the chapters will come out when they are finished such as this one. Summary: Wendy makes a visit to her late mother she’d neglected to do over the summer, but now she has the time and reminisce the moments she had with her and her memory.
TW: Death mention
Author’s Note: This is a story I’ve been wanting to tell for a long time since developing my interpretation of Wendy’s mother, of whom I named Bethany Hickok Corduroy. It’s something close to home for me and it was a good way to cope and find closure. Hope you all enjoy this read here.
_________________________________________________
It was a cool September weekend in Gravity when Wendy decided she was going to make a visit now that she had the free time again to do so. Wendy put on her helmet and got on her bike and rode down the dirt road of her home and into town. Wendy was in no rush to get there as she waved at friends and folks while passing them by. Ever since what happened in Gravity Falls all those weeks ago, she felt closer all of them somehow.
Wendy wasn’t going to be visiting any of her friends today, but somewhere she had been to multiple times with her group of friends. But she didn’t visit her while she was there. Wendy smiled up at the sign when she arrived at Gravity Falls Cemetery. She didn’t have to let Mr. and Mrs. Valentino why she was visiting; the couple always knew where she would be. Wendy strolled down the path with her hands in her pockets, passing by tombstones of the deceased as she thought back to those old memories she had long come to terms with. They were of her and her mother and the times they spent together when she was with her.
Wendy would arrive at the grave where her mother rests. She was visibly glad the ground wasn’t disturbed, a good sign that her mom didn’t rise again as a zombie like some of the others have done recently. She hoped it stayed that way.
“Hey, Mom…” Wendy sat down, right next to her mother’s tombstone. “I have a lot to tell you about what happened over the summer. And the new friends I made, too. You would have loved them. Their names are Dipper and Mabel.” Wendy knew her mom couldn’t respond back, but she could always feel her presence in a sense, and that was enough.
Ten years prior…
Five-year old Wendy was walking in the woods, but she wasn’t alone as she held onto her mother’s hand beside her. Bethany Linda Corduroy loved taking walks in the woods whenever she wasn’t working or too busy with Wendy’s younger brothers to have these moments with her first and only daughter. Bethany was a taller than the average woman at six feet two inches, having had long braided red hair that reached her hips, black and white plaid coat over her grey top depicting a white wolf, brown steel-toe boots, and green pants with a wolf face belt buckle.
Bethany smiled at her daughter fondly as she talked about the strange and wonderful things she found while strolling the woods. She spoke with a warm voice in her normal midwestern accent that got Wendy’s attention.
“You see, Wendy, if you go into the woods and look, you may just find something amazing, beautiful, or even dangerous. Not to say it’s bad, but it’s a good sign you may have gotten too close.” Bethany pointed at the scar on her chin and one on her freckled face. “I know I had my fair share of close calls, jellybean.” Wendy giggled.
“Did ya fight any monsters? Because I wanna learn how to fight!”
“To defend myself, yes. But I didn’t go picking fights I know I would get me in more trouble.” Bethany ruffled Wendy’s hair. “And don’t worry, jellybean, I have plenty to teach you. There’s no rush.” Bethany knew the first thing she wanted to show her daughter. “Speaking of not rushing, we have to be careful here. We need to be quiet to not spook ‘em.” Wendy’s eyes lit up.
“There’s a monster ahead of us? Is it scary?”
“I want to let you see for yourself.”
Bethany led Wendy to the river and pointed at the first creature they spotted. A plaidypus with a few offspring staying close to her and swimming. They were like the average platypi, but these ones had striped patterns that resembled flannel wear and come in different colors. The mother was green, while her pups were red, blue, and green respectively. And smelled like maple syrup. Wendy’s eyes lit up and grinned ear to ear as she witnessed these creatures.
“Oh my gosh!” Wendy exclaimed in a quieter tone. “Mama, they are so cute! And they look like what we all wear at home.” Wendy would find this shocking as she concluded, her excitement turning to dismay. “Um, Mama… do people hunt them for their fur that makes flannel clothes that you, Daddy and work friends like to wear?” Bethany frowned, knowing the answer to her question. She knelt to her height.
“Let me reassure they try not to harm them when collecting their fur. Lumber folk know how to treat creatures like these ones with distance and respect.” This consoled Wendy’s worry as smiled.
“That’s good. I don’t want to see these little guys hurt.”
“Neither do I. Why I want to protect animals and magical creatures alike however I can.” Wendy hugged her mom’s arm.
“I think you’re doing a good job, Mama.” It meant a lot to Bethany to hear that.
Later at the Corduroy residence…
Bethany held up her youngest son Gus in her arms while in the living room.
“How’s my youngest boy?” Little Gus giggled as tots do. She would see her older two boys Marcus and Kevin together scurrying in tow.
“Mama! Mama!” Marcus and Kevin chanted in unison as the two go up to hug her legs.
“Can’t forget about Marcus and Kevin!” Bethany would slowly move her legs, pretending she was a giant. “Oh no! The tiny men are slowing me down! Rawrh!” Bethany shuffled over to the couch and sat down with her boys laughing in delight of the game. Wendy came into the living room with a plastic sword.
“I’ll save the giant from the tiny men!” Wendy lightly bonked her brother’s heads, and they all laugh. “Bonk! Bonk! Bonk!”
Suddenly, that booming voice they all know and gotten used to came in que.
“FAMILY, FOOD IS COOKED!”
“Yay!” all the kids cheered and raced to the dining room to eat. Bethany would follow and join her family.
Bethany helped her kids get in their respective seats and set the table. And when Dan appeared with the cooked meal of ham and other fixings, she would go and kiss her husband’s lips and help him.
“Thanks for cooking dinner tonight, Danny.” Dan’s face was flushed with red; he still stammered his words sometimes when talking to his wife she was captivating.
“Always, S-Sunflower.”
It was one of those good moments in Wendy’s time with her mom she cherished to this day. Bethany was everything a good mother should be in her eyes. But Wendy knew her mom was still a human being with her flaws and her moments of weakness.
Three years later…
“Fuck…” Bethany cursed under her breath as she was being carried by Dan in his arms. She couldn’t walk without limping from the injuries she sustained from the incident at the lake against a poacher she caught trying to catch a siren. The poacher was dealt with and won’t be harming anyone on her watch.
“Beth, you need to rest up, okay, and take medicine. Doctor’s orders,” Dan fretted as they approached their home.
“I know… I know. He had it coming…” Bethany groaned, holding her side.
“You should have called for help.” Bethany shot a glare at him.
“Had it covered, but at least Tate got to me in time.” Dan frowned at his stubborn wife and stopped where he stood.
“I’m serious, it could have been worse. I don’t know what I’d do if you weren’t around. You know you’re still sick…” Bethany’s eyes trailed away from his and towards the ground. “I know how much this means to you but think of us back home.” Bethany choked in response but mustered to speak.
“I know but… I just want to keep going.” Bethany’s eyes welled up with tears, having hated to feel helpless in this matter.
The two were unaware that Wendy was right behind them and heard everything. It broke her young heart.
What would come next would be the worst thing to have ever happened to Wendy and her family. Wendy cupped her mouth, not wanting them to hear her crying.
Two years later…
A ten-year old Wendy curled herself against the tombstone where her mother lied beneath the ground and sobbed quietly. Visitors didn’t want to disturb her as they understood clearly what she and her family lost. Everything changed at home, and she hated being there seeing her dad shut down and her brothers in melancholy. It was all too much.
Bethany’s absence wasn’t just felt in the Corduroy family, but to those who knew and loved her as a cherished friend and neighbor who grew to fit right in the sleepy town when she arrived in Gravity Falls as a child from Arizona. Bethany was also nosy, mostly out of boredom, in wanting to know the many secrets of the town and its people as a way to give her something to do. But she ended up finding something truly special. A sense of belonging.
Wendy sniffled once she was done shedding all the tears she could and sat up to sit besides her mother’s grave. She took slow, composing breathes. She rose her head up to the sound of walking approaching her. Her reddened eyes see it was her dad and younger brothers who were looking for her.
“Hey, hun. Mind if we sit here, too?” Wendy would nod slowly at her family as they joined in sitting with her. Dan let out a deep breath and face his daughter with apologetic eyes. He felt awful for not having been as active as he should be since Bethany’s passing and wanted to do right by his kids. He gathered all four of them in a strong hug, but not too tightly.
“I’m sorry I took off without telling you, Dad…” Dan would respond without the yell in his tone, something he only reserved when times were serious and somber.
“No, hun, I get it. I had a feeling you’d be here. I miss her, too. So much… But we’ll get through this together, okay? As a family.” Wendy could only nod a response, feeling the tears come back again. Wendy had no idea what the future has in store for her and her family, but they won’t be alone.
Present day…
Wendy laughed while recalling the funnier times she had during the summer she spent in Gravity Falls.
“Then we watched Mabel dance some jig with her pig Waddles and it was a blast!” Wendy let out a sigh after her laughter toned down. “It feels good talking to you again, Mom. Now, I have boring homework and school, but I think some normalcy is appreciated after all that’s happened.” Wendy’s eyes go wide upon hearing a familiar laugh that she knew only her mother would make.
Wendy turned to see a figure under the tree that grew near Bethany’s grave. It was none other than Bethany’s spirit that came into view. Wendy would recognize her mother’s face, hair, the clothes, scar and laugh. Wendy’s expression turned from shock to elation as she runs up to the spirit.
Bethany had her arms opened wide and embraced Wendy into a hug that gave the teenage girl warmth. She would smile and give Wendy’s forehead a kiss. But as quick as she came, she fades away, leaving Wendy alone once again.
But Wendy was content with this, knowing her mom is at peace as she is, too.

It has been almost a year since One Big Weird Happy Family (OBWHF) came to an end with the promise of a sequel fic. It was by far the longest as well as my very first collab fic with @sailormew4 I have ever been a part of at 82 chapters in the span of four years. As far as a sequel to the fic, it'll be more like short stories that take place after the events of the fic I want to do at some point, but I won't rush myself into it.

A/N: I was stumped with what to do for the prompt Identity until I suddenly found the inspiration to write this fic that depicts an au of mine called Lost and Gained. Which includes ocs of mine such those from OBWHF and new ones for the Pines family such as Andrea Pereira, wife of Stan and mother of James, Jessie and additional kid Leroy. Lucina Evergreen, wife of Ford and Fiddleford and mother of Tate and Shiloh and later Shauna and Shannon. But enjoy what I wrote here for @stanuary
“Who are you?” A young boy Stan asked his reflection in the bathroom mirror, flashing a bright grin on his face after finishing brushing his teeth. “I’m Stanley Pines! King of New Jersey! This guy is gonna go sailing one day with his brother!” He pointed at himself with bright confidence and pride. “And Andy if she wants to…” Stan muttered under his breath with his cheeks blushing.
“Stanley, are you done in there?” asked Ford after knocking on the closed door.
“Coming out!”
A teenage Stan saw himself in the bathroom mirror while grooming his hair and fixing up his pink suit in preparation for prom he’ll attend with his brother, and their respective dates. Stan smugly grinned at his image. “Who are you? Stan freaking Pines! This guy’s gonna take his best gal to the prom. And then we’re going to see a show after. Hell yeah. Tch. Tch.” Stan finger gunned back at his reflection before the sound of knocking was heard on the other side of the door. “Alright, alright. Yeesh.”
“Who are you?” Stan nervously asked his reflection inside the bathroom mirror at home. “Stan Pines… who's going to be a dad, while still in high school. You really did it now, Stan.” He smiled a little after taking time to compose himself. “At least Andy still loves you, you still love her, and her parents and brother don’t hate you after we told them. I’m gonna take responsibility. But I can’t tell my family… they’ll be less than thrilled. Except Sixer, I can trust him with anything.” Stan took a deep breath and left the bathroom.
Stan rubbed his tired, puffy red eyes in front of the Pereira family’s bathroom mirror to clean himself up. “Who are you?” Stan paused and choked up tears. “The knucklehead who ruined his brother’s science fair project, costing him that chance to get into the stupid college he wanted to be in, and got kicked out by Pops because of it.” He sniffled and wiped his runny nose. “Fuck… I can’t do anything right.”
“It’s going to be okay, Stan…” Andy said on the other side of the door. “I – we’re here for you.”
“I – thank you, lass.”
“Who are you?” Stan adjusted the striped tie of his cleaned shirt in front of the bathroom mirror of his, his wife and children’s apartment they’re renting in Florida. “Stan Pines. A husband, father of three gremlins, comic book writer and artist. Not too bad, I admit. Can do better. One day. Andy got her marine biology degree, and she’s hoping to find a job. Knowing Florida, it’ll be easy as pumpkin pie!”
“Dad! Dad! Dad!” cried out the three kids James, Jessie and Leroy approaching the bathroom door.
“You got a postcard!”
“Alright, I’ll come read it. Be right out.”
“Who are you?” Stan asked his reflection in the bathroom mirror of his brother Ford’s home. Behind Stan, his wife Andrea or Andy as most called her, stood behind him to treat the burn mark on the back of his right shoulder he sustained from physically fighting his brother before he ended up through the portal. The burn stung his back something fierce when Andy began to apply the ointment against his skin.
“You’re the guy who’s going to get his brother back.” Andy answered for Stan, doing her best to keep her emotions under control. “I still can’t believe what happened. His wife disappeared. His husband up and left. His sons were left in another person’s care… we have to do something.”
“We will. I think we can handle two more kids under our care. Tate and Shiloh need their family right now more than anything.” Stan gently touched his wife’s hand behind him. “And I know I’ll need your help.” Andy gingerly kissed his cheek.
“With you every step of the way, Stan.”
“Who are you?” Stan asked his image in the mirror of his and Andy’s bedroom now that they’ve taken ownership of the house that once belonged to Ford. “Stan Pines, owner of the Mystery Shack! People around here sure love a good tourist trap, let me tell you handsome devil. And with Andy working as a Lake Ranger at the lake, perfect for discounts for fishing supplies. The kids seem to love this town. Tate and Shiloh need time… but I’ll do my best as their uncle to get them through this. At least their other dad Fiddleford will be around once he’s mentally well enough to be involved with his kids again.” Stan pinched the bridge of his nose. “It’s been a long year since then. I hope I can make this all work. I hope I can get my brother back as soon as possible. Ugh, enough of me rambling.” Stan put on the fez hat as the final part of his outfit and left the room.
“Who are you?” Stan wiped away his happy tears in asking his reflection in his bedroom mirror. “Grandpa Stan Pines, that’s who! My first granddaughter was born today! Her name is Tanya and she is the cutest! I have a feeling me and Andy will be anticipating more grandkids running around here when they start actually running, so I'm gonna look forward to planning more space around here. If they’ll be anything like their parents, this is gonna be chaotic.” Stan let out a content sigh and headed downstairs.
“Who are you?” Stan demanded his reflection in the mirror. “Stanley Pines. The brother Stanford should be thanking me and Andy for getting not only him out of that stupid portal, but his wife, and apparently their twin teenage daughters they had while in there.” He was angry after his heated argument with his twin brother. At least their respective wives interfered and stopped the two brothers from physically fighting each other before it got worse. “I thought… I thought things would be fixed, but I don’t know if it can be.” Stan looked at himself with determination. “I guess I can try talking. Oof. I’m not looking forward to that.”
Stan let out a big breath. “Who are you? Me? Guess who became a Grunkle in the past couple of years? This guy!” Stan jovially thumbed at himself. “Which makes Andy a Grandy. Ha! Tate and his wife had their son Isaac. Shiloh and his wife had their daughter Hazel. Finally, Shermie got his grandkids Mason and Mabel born a couple days ago. Ford and I wouldn't willingly give the twins up to Shermie. God, I miss those twins already.” Andy laughed in the background.
“It was a wonderful time. And that has a nice ring to it. Grandy….”
Stan approached the mirror of his and Andy’s bedroom. He had one question that came to mind, remembering the one thing he would always ask and have an answer. “Who are you? Me? Um… I’m Stanley, I think. Stanley Pines. Yeah, that sounds about right from what everyone keeps telling me. It’s coming back to me.” Stan rubbed at his head, memories of his past, his whole life he spent with his family, and the last moments before it was almost all wiped out of his mind were slowly but surely coming back thanks to his family’s diligent efforts to bring him back.
“Who are you?” Stan would ask his reflection in the mirror onboard the Stan O’ War. Ford would walk from behind and stand next to him.
“I think you know the answer.”
Stan and Ford exchanged smiles at each other before going back on deck to start their adventure out at sea like they’ve always dreamed of doing when they were young.
