​today, the street i usually take to get across town was completely closed down; so i had to drive right past it. i looked over as i passed. i marveled in a sad sort of awe at how big the trees i’d planted had gotten; they looked so massive, healthy, and beautiful compared to when i packed up and left. i felt happy for them, and a bit sad for myself.

​i went on about my business and came back the exact same way. as i was driving home, i started to contemplate. the street i moved to and now drive down daily, a street that once felt completely foreign and unfamiliar, has now become comforting and familiar; and the street i spent years building a life on now feels foreign and new.

​life is just kind of like that. it is ever-changing; and change causes things once deeply comforting to slowly ebb away into things that feel unfamiliar.

​but when life offers up that kind of friction, it takes real courage to move forward. even though you might be losing something that once felt like home, you can always find that comfort again in the new space.

​yes, it was heavy going back down my old street and seeing it with completely new eyes, but driving back down my current street made me realize something...if i hadn't moved, which was the first of many massive risks i took that year, i wouldn't be anywhere near where i am now. that single move started a momentum of life changes i never could have expected; opening up the exact doors i needed to finally become the person i always wanted to be.

​i guess my point is...we are always going to feel a little bit of sadness when we take those big steps to leave the comfort of familiarity. i'll probably still avoid driving down my old street whenever i can; but those uncomfortable steps are the exact ones that end up changing your entire life...

a low-stimulation sanctuary shouldn't require you to strain your ears, so i am making the executive decision to pull back and bypass our Saturday shift entirely. we are prioritizing the sensory quality of the channel over forcing a broadcast.

instead i'll be streaming again on sunday at 6:30 pm cst

by Sunday evening, the neighborhood sky should be quiet, the noise should be gone, and we can open the bar doors under pristine, peaceful conditions. it is going to be the absolute perfect antidote for the sunday scaries.

​first, the absolute win: a complete stranger dropped into the sanctuary during the starting screen just to ask if they could leave the balcony on as background noise while they did their weekend homework. hearing that my voice could act as someone’s study sanctuary is exactly why i built this storefront; it made the launch entirely worth it.

​unfortunately, the local neighborhood fireworks out here completely red-lined my microphone track shortly after; it was competing with my voice so badly that i chose to pull the plug early and delete the archives to protect the sensory quality of the channel.

I am tentatively saying we will try and restart tomorrow at 8PM CST. unfortunately the noise of tomorrow will be even worse...I've adjusted some settings and filters...hopefully they will help but i'm not sure we will have the capacity to go live tomorrow either.
