       𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐔𝐄𝐒 𝐓𝐎 𝐖𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐄 𝐃𝐎𝐖𝐍 𝐒𝐎𝐌𝐄 𝐍𝐎𝐓𝐄𝐒 𝐅𝐑𝐎𝐌 𝐀 𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐑𝐎𝐆𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍   had that morning.   office door closed,  blinds cracked open a peak just like he liked it for time alone with his thoughts  &&  the evidence. jason didn’t like to be crowded,  he didn’t like five different people in his ear when he was working⸺he was one of the best for a reason  &&  it was because he does what is required of him  &&  more.   that’s not to say,  however,  he doesn’t enjoy being a team player . . granted those on the team do their job correctly.   dark eyes flicker up from the paper,  pen sat down while jason’s hands fold together to rest on his abdomen.  a moment is taken to study nora who sat across from him:   ❝  I didn’t think ya did till now.  ❞   answered   𝓱𝓸𝓷𝓮𝓼𝓽𝓵𝔂   with true confusion reflected in the way his brows quirked inward or down turn of his lips.     ;      moving forward,  clasped hands rest on his desk that’s adored with a family photo, a name plate, various case files,  &&  cold cup of coffee.  ❝  I know I haven’t been-tha easiest to work with lately, nora.  I was . . kinda an asshole to ya in the beginning.  ❞  detective briggs can admit when he’s wrong unlike some people in the department.    ❝  but I ain’t ever thought you hated me.  was I wrong ?  “   why else would she say that then ?  brow raises up instead of inward now,  ❝  I can be an asshole,  but everybody knows that shar.  ❞  accent seems most thickest in that moment when accompanied by his half cocker grin  &&  the notably lightness/twinkle in his eye. jason wasn’t know as a light hearted guy at work  &&  most people where scared or intimidated by him.   nora should count this smile, this banter, this twinkle as an  𝙰𝙲𝙲𝙾𝙼𝙿𝙻𝙸𝚂𝙷𝙼𝙴𝙽𝚃  of having gotten under his skin. for now.

        𝐖𝐇𝐎 𝐊𝐍𝐄𝐖 𝐓𝐀𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐎𝐔𝐓 𝐒𝐎𝐌𝐄 𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐒𝐇 𝐖𝐎𝐔𝐋𝐃 𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐕𝐄 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐒𝐎 𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃𝐘?   it’s all wednesday was doing when the other found her walking up the street⸺a dimly lit road, fogged over, but enough to see the bloodied, wickedly grinning woman approach.  body glad in black, some touches of red in a necklace,  && the obvious way that blood stained skin,  half way up her arm, sticks out against much   𝙿𝙰𝙻𝙴𝚁 𝚂𝙺𝙸𝙽.   it can only mean one thing:  wednesday has killed someone . . brutally . . with a smile.  but, the question is why ?    ❝  don’t be alarmed about the blood, nora.  promise it was for a good cause. ❞   hand raises to show off blood on skin, lips downturned for a moment.     ;      ❝   blood is so hard to get out of silk && this !   was one of my favorite shirts !  ❞   a complain that feels common to her, but must be shocking to nora.  a step is taken closer, blood not appearing near her lips.    ❝ anyways, ❞   head tilts to the side.   ❝  some guy was harassing some women while i was out, so i did the right thing for once.  i nearly drained him,   𝓻𝓲𝓹𝓹𝓮𝓭   his heart from his chest,  && then tossed him on the side of the road where he belongs. ❞   the smile spreads,    ❝  how’s your night going ?   ❞

            𝐑𝐈𝐋𝐄𝐘 𝐇𝐀𝐃𝐍’𝐓 𝐍𝐎𝐓𝐈𝐂𝐄𝐃 𝐈𝐓 𝐀𝐓 𝐅𝐈𝐑𝐒𝐓⸺𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐖𝐀𝐘 𝐍𝐎𝐑𝐀 𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐍𝐒 𝐀𝐆𝐀𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐓 𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐒𝐈𝐃𝐄,  head rested on shoulder under the blanket shared.  with the tv noise, with the person at her side,  riley is able to shut out the chatter, the whispers, all the other things that catch eye in the night.   mind can focus on one thing to block out the others,  && for once she’s more than glad for the distraction.   head so full of   𝓿𝓸𝓲𝓬𝓮𝓼,   images, && moments doesn’t make for a good quality of life in the way it drains her, in the way it messes up relationships  !    riley has been alone since she was a teenager with only fleeting relations or a bunch of one night stands with very little repeat offenders.   somehow, in her age, mind had convinced itself that way of existing was best.   no attachment meant not unloading of trauma.  revolving door of people,  when the mood struck, meant  no possibility of being  𝙷𝚄𝚁𝚃.      ;      head turns slightly when noticing nora.  brows furrow for only a second until arm moved, out from under, to come ‘round the other woman’s shoulder.  gently, riley pulls her inward until head is resting on her shoulder still but closer to collarbone or breast.  it’s a silent moment, but soon riley breaks silence:    ❝  what do these people expect being let off into some crazy environment . . naked ? ❞   a slight chuckle,    ❝  couldn’t get me to do that.  not for a million.  no way. ❞

        𝐇𝐄’𝐃 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐊𝐄𝐃 𝐖𝐈𝐓𝐇 𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐀 𝐖𝐇𝐈𝐋𝐄 𝐍𝐎𝐖. 𝐇𝐄 𝐇𝐀𝐃 𝐒𝐎𝐌𝐄 𝐈𝐃𝐄𝐀 𝐎𝐅 how nora worked, how it effected her, && how those around her, them, reacted to what she was brought here to do.   a lot of the officers didn’t believe her, thought she was a liar,  &&  while he was a skeptic himself in the beginning but now understands to some degree.   while she’s his partner on these cases jason won’t let anyone undermine,  speak down to,  or make fun of nora  !   there’s no use for it on his mind  &&  it’s plain cruel to do so at all but let alone to her face.   (   so many officers thought themselves the   𝙱𝙸𝙶 𝚂𝙷𝙾𝚃𝚂   &&  that they couldn’t get their asses handed to them or chewed out by someone.   with jason briggs he reminded them of their place ,  their duty ,  &&  how no nonsense he was when investigation was involved.   It’s why he was looked at the way he was in addition to his exceptional success rates.   )     ;       he’d heard it from behind,  quiet but he heard it all the same.   hands place themselves on hips as he rounds the corner.   eyes more nora standing not to far away:   ❝  how about we stop standin’ ‘round with our dicks in our hands  &&  do some work, boys ?  ❞   tone is authoritative,   𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻𝓷   that leaves the officers rigid.    head nods to outside the room,  ❝  leave miss roberts to her work.  she don’t need anyone breathin’ down her neck.  ❞   jason leans in, quiets his tone.  ❝  && don’t let me see or hear anyone of you harassing her again or you’ll be on desk work for the next week.  got it ?  ❞    jason doesn’t even wait for responses or reactions,  but instead closes the door  &&  silently gestures to nora to begin.

       𝐓𝐎𝐃𝐀𝐘 𝐇𝐀𝐃 𝐁𝐄𝐄𝐍 𝐀 𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐈𝐂𝐔𝐋𝐀𝐑𝐋𝐘 𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐃 𝐃𝐀𝐘. 𝐇𝐄 𝐂𝐎𝐔𝐋𝐃 𝐓𝐄𝐋𝐋 𝐅𝐑𝐎𝐌 𝐌𝐎𝐍𝐓𝐇𝐒 𝐎𝐅  watching how she worked,  watching how these things effect her in the aftermath.   the other cops,  the other detectives assigned to these cases, don’t believe her─jason is willing to admit he didn’t in the beginning,  but how can he not now that he’s seen it ?   he’s been present when her words help grieving families or when what she manages to gather at a scene as aided in adding another solved file onto the shelf ?   he’d be a fool,  &&  who else really cares about the opinions of other people in the department ?  he believes && that’s enough for him.   no snickering or laughs will derail that.     ;      nora has been faint since stepping out of the house that seemed,  as far as he could observe,  to have knocked her off balance for the remainder of the day.   a long day done,  paperwork filled out,  &&  when she has gone to leave jason found himself   𝙸𝙽𝚂𝙸𝚂𝚃𝙸𝙽𝙶   he drive her home  !   it was precaution,  he told nora. now, car parked  &&  key in his suit pocket,  jason finds his arms scooping nora into them with her rested against his chest.   ❝  cant have ya fallin’ over && crackin’ your head on the pavement, can we ?  ❞   in reference to her unsteady feet that afternoon.   walking up the second step of stairs, feet halt at what he knows to be her apartment.    (   few non-professional visits have granted him the knowledge of where she leaves && she the same.   Including one encounter with his son, darian, who he had for the week.   )    ❝  here we go, little miss. ❞  meant as some level on endearment,  he was rusty !  arms set her down,  ❝  worked hard today,  nora. proud of you,  especially considering how much it takes outta you. ❞   jason smiles,  𝓻𝓪𝓻𝓮.   ❝  it’s appreciated.  ❞
