Thanks to Trump, the USPS has changed how it’s processing ballots, especially ballots not close to Sacramento/ Bay Area/ Los Angeles/ San Diego, so that if you simply stick your ballot in outgoing mail on Tuesday, November 4, your ballot will not be postmarked timely – and thus your vote won’t count. If you’re cutting it very close, you can take your ballot to a vote center, or take it into a post office during business hours and ask at the counter to get it hand-postmarked. Also new this year: Donald Trump is sending Department of Justice observers to five counties – Fresno, Kern, Los Angeles, Orange, and Riverside. We don’t have a lot of information about where and when, but we are generally hearing they won’t be in place until Monday or Tuesday. So if you don’t want to be observed – or intimidated – by Trump’s DOJ, vote early. If you’ve been displaced by wildfire or otherwise haven’t received your ballot, you can vote in one of two ways. If you’re in Los Angeles County, the first is to cast a remote-accessiblevote-by-mail ballot, where you can do most of the work online, print out your ballot, and take it to a voting center anywhere in the county. The second is to show up in person at a voting center anywhere in your county and cast a provisional ballot.
