The State doesn’t survive by happenstance. It survives because every pillar of institutional power reinforces the next.
Debt keeps people dependent. Pharmaceutical giants profit from chronic illness. Endless war fuels trillion-dollar industries. Corporate media manufactures consent while government agencies legalize the machinery behind it all. Then every few years, the public is told their only role is choosing which manager oversees the same system.
Different branding. Different slogans. Same expanding apparatus of control.
The modern system doesn’t require chains…
only distraction, dependency, fear, and the illusion of participation.
But the moment people begin recognizing the pattern, the spell starts to break.

It doesn’t matter where you fall on the political spectrum—left, right, or center—social life is always a struggle between authoritarians, who favor institutions, and libertarians, who prioritize personal autonomy and individualism. The individual always stands out in a society that fears liberty and prefers safety over freedom.
~The Southern Voluntaryist
I’m sure you’ve been asked this before, but what is the distinction between voluntaryism and anarchism?
voluntaryism is primarily concerned with consent. the guy who coined the term was not an anarchist and believed that the state could exist on a consensual basis.
anarchism is anti-hierarchical and promotes horizontal organization. voluntaryists might theoretically be chill with some vertical relationships as long as the one submitting is doing so as an act of their own free will.
I call myself a voluntaryist usually although I’d say it collapses into anarchism for me. I think that statism inherently violates voluntaryism and I think a truly voluntary organization isn’t distinguishable from a horizontal one - for it to be consensual, you must be free to withdraw your consent. consent is constant, not a one-time agreement. if you’re consenting to a particular arrangement then nobody involved can truly be said to be “above” you
full disclosure is I came to my position from the right-wing. I was an “ancap” for some time. from that side you’ll hear arguments that “anarchy = no rulers” - that rulership is the sort of authoritarianism they oppose since it imposes itself and violates voluntaryism. this argumentation avoids worrying about distinguishing between “just” and “unjust” hierarchies by not taking a stance inherently opposed to hierarchy, just one opposed to rulership.
I don’t consider myself right-wing anymore. I stopped worrying about political ideology the more I got involved with my faith. I’d say I’ve moved left, but I don’t consider myself particularly leftist or centrist either. I’m a voluntaryist. I think a plurality of systems can coexist in a free society and I don’t consider myself wise enough to prescribe any particular system.
All I know is that humans are not meant to dominate and rule over one another, nor are we to concern ourselves solely with our own interests. We should live peacefully with one another and each do all we can to serve others.
