The Volturi stay out of human affairs so long as there is no threat to vampire kind directly, or if vampires were taking advantage of wartorn areas. In general they keep silent guard.

I would imagine Caius could fall in the camp of finding modern conflicts undignified. You have to remember most of these vampires are of a time where leaders in fact were expected to show up at the front lines to some extent. He would have an interest in monitoring if humans have created weapons capable of harming a vampire though.

Caius still shows up to every fight the Volturi have to take part it, seeing modern world leaders hide in bunkers would make him sneer to an extent.

That being said, here is a small sampling of headcanons;

𝐀𝐫𝐨: While not a veteran he lived through the Mycenaean occupation of Minoan Crete and found his own ways to survive human strife.

𝐂𝐚𝐢𝐮𝐬: The Veteran™ In all seriousness however, I believe that Caius Dei Volturi is the perfect case study of the trauma of being sent to war. He has been at war for better part of millennia and that has left it's scars. In fact, I headcanon that Caius was turned in a battlefield by scavenging vampires. His turning and war is intrinsically linked

𝐀𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐝𝐨𝐫𝐚: Personally I believe that this queen is the oldest vampire among the Volturi, that in turn means she lived at a time where it was no strange thing for women to defend home and hearth as much as men. I imagine she did see conflict as a human.

A lifetime ago someone questioned me about Blood & Taste, in that post I did detail how type has no significance on taste. What determines what blood tastes like to a vampire is probably our health, age and habits. But where is the fun in that?

This is entirely based on the whole Blood Type vs. Personality theory that is prevalent in some cultures.

As head of the Volturi PR team I will neither confirm, nor deny the ruling covens involvement in the impressive jewelry heist we were privy to this week. That being said, I did clear out a section of Aro’s vault the other night.

I have still not decided if all those stories will be written or not, but I am willing to shed some light in case they remain only in my head; 𝐀𝐫𝐨: He will meet his maker in a sense.

Marcus very much is preparing for revenge against Aro within my little universe. He has waited for years so that our dear mind reader will have something so dear to him that Marcus taking it away will crumble him. In the big finale he will demand that Aro lose something of equal value that Marcus lost all those years ago.

What that is... I will not share.

𝐂𝐚𝐢𝐮𝐬: Marcus has a soft spot for Caius and understands why he did what he did, he still despises that choice however. There will be demands he will force our fair-haired king to comply to. But not as severe as with Aro.

𝐒𝐮𝐥𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚 & 𝐀𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐝𝐨𝐫𝐚: These two he considers kin, and their grief over Didyme was very much real. None of them knew what happened that night and he will not punish them directly.

𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐮𝐬: He will have the happiest ending of all.

Ah yes, the joys or modernity in a Palazzo that has seen millennia of architectural changes; ornamental and functional alike!

The truth of the matter is that they have installed what is needed to keep up the carefully constructed tourist image. I headcanon that parts of the palazzo is available to every day people, there it will look like any tourist trap you may stumble upon in Italy.

Other than that, it is only the secretarial offices and the archives that have extensive modern touches. The communal areas are a mixture of old and new, but much of the palazzo will come across as a time capsule of sorts. In other words; you will not find a flatscreen tv inside Athenodora and Caius’ quarters.

Fun facts about the Palazzo:

If you go into any of the vampires’ quarters you will notice that all of them have a bathroom—there is no toilet however. The only functioning plumbing of that variety is connected to the secretarial offices as well as the public first floor that regular tourists visit every day.

It took a police inquiry for Caius to cave on installing electricity. Greater parts of Volterra was some of the last places in Italy to install the ‘modern’ invention.

Due to their fondness of candlelight, the palazzo can be a bit of a fire hazard.

The central furness they use to dispose of bodies took years and years to build, back in the day they used to simply bury all their human victims. Now they have bought much of the surrounding land they used to make sure nobody finds anything…

The Archives rival some of the most high tech equipment owned by the grandest museums in the world. Aro had Afton break into the Vatican to see what they use, it was almost an incident.

Corin has one of the most modern quarters, rivaled only by Santiago.

Due to the lack of airconditioning in most of the palazzo, the air can be incredibly stale and musty. To protect the historical decor, they did not open the windows too much either.

If a human walked into Caius’ art studio they would have to wear a proper face mask due to him carelessly using toxic materials. He does not have to care about that after all..

While the Antwerp Diamond Heist took place before my tenure as Archivist, I can neither confirm nor deny that the Volturi or any of the coven members involvement in the crimes.

However, I will say that Afton look terribly smug down in the courtyard right now. It is also important to mention Chelsea is the vampire with most diamond jewelry in the entire cove. Yes. Even more than our dear queens. The woman sparkles whenever the light hits her.

One can only assume that Afton finds great joy in spoiling his romantic partner.

As you may know Gustav!Anon, when I first saw this in my inbox I was sure it was some sort of spam. It's the first time someone has ran into my Inbox talking about Communist propaganda in Yugoslavia... even Tito. But as I read on it was of course you. But here is the answer to your questions, I do hope you have recovered from the crashout. To get all the Volturi in here I was not able to elaborate, but I think it’s to imagine why they chose what they did.

Good evening history geek, a fellow history geek runs this blog and have now jumped at the chance to talk about this topic. Seriously, if you ever want me to write deep dives you should give me historical angles.

First, a small history lesson and breakdown of when Felix was born for those who might be new here on the blog. This is all my own worldbuilding, mind you, not based on anything Stephenie has written.

Felix was born in 53BCE, a time of great upheaval for the Roman Republic. His formative years was plagued by civil war, all ending with the assassination of Julius Caesar when Felix was only nine years old. At this point Gladiatorial Combat had already been common for over fifty years within The Roman Republic.

However, our dear Felix did not end up in the pits before 35 BCE.

The thing about Gladiatorial Combat, was that it evolved over time; becoming a grander affair with every decade and more of a performance than anything else (Seriously, they filled the Colosseum with water from Tiber). In the early days, Romans would throw their enemies into battle with Free Romans in the pits, notably Gauls, Samnites and Thracians. These groups of people then inspired future Gladitor styles (through the ages there were about thirty or so).

Though it is a little early, I do headcanon Felix as an early iteration of The Murmillo despite the timeline being a little wonky. And though it is not entirely historically accurate, you probably recognise his type of Gladiator from this famous painting by Jean-Léon Gérôme
