How do the Volantene aristocracies’ naming conventions align with the Targaryens? They’ve originated from the same culture, but have some pretty distinct differences in names.

Targaryens have stuff like, Daenerys, Aegon, Jaehaerys, Visenya, etc.

But the Volantene have names like Trianna, Marqelo, Malaquo, Vhalaso, Belicho, Vogarro, Nyessos, Doniphos.

Now I’m no linguist. Where does that convergence point happen? Because you have family names like Maegyr which are similar to Maelys and Maegor. But then you have Paenymion, lol.

Follow up question (sorry). How do you interpret the differences between pre-Doom and post-Doom Valyrian names? I was wondering if Daenerys still made sense as a pre-Doom name, as I always assumed it was based on Daenys.

They're not really that different. They're about as different as one would expect considering that the one language descended from the other. Consider how different Latin names are from Italian names. Same thing here. The Targaryens intentionally preserved the culture of the Valyrian Freehold. Remember that Volantis is old. It was the first of the Free Cities—Ghis was still an empire (for a short while)! They've been creating their own identity for a long, long time. It's not strange at all that they appear so different (despite the fact that I look at them and see them as way, way too siilar to Valyrian. lol It's going to be tough to create something so similar yet slightly differen in future...).
