As soon as I saw the official design for summer rose in volume 9, I knew I wanted to cosplay her! Finally enough, the next day, Suzu message me asking if I would be the Summer to her Ruby Rose! I said yes so fast! LMAO. What's perfect is this ended up being a stash buster cosplay. I didn't need to buy anything except the wig.

I draped the pattern for the red dress on my mannequin, and used a existing white petticoat that I had already made as base. Thankfully it was the length that I wanted for this anyways. There is a zipper up the center back, and the button attachments for the harness are sewn on the shoulders. I am so thankful that the crwby posted her concept art so I could understand how things came together under the cape.

I used a cheap black satin for the main over skirt, and I had just enough gray cotton that I had planned to use for the glove cuffs, and the peplum. Once I layered my fabrics together though, the gray was far too light so I ended up dying it. I used bias tape for the trim on both layers. The harness is made from pleather, and each of the buttons act as a swivel so that it sits quite well and comfortably on me. Though, I do have to have help having someone attach the buttons on my shoulder blades. The top pieces that end in leaves are actually attached to the Cape with buttons on the underside. The flower pin is made of EVA foam with a safety pin glued to it. The underbust trim is metallic gold because I wanted a difference from what I had used on the skirt. Eventually, I would like to make the harness sturdy enough that I can maybe hold a weapon on my back, or at least a small purse!

The Cape is red and white polyester, I'm quite proud of the lining. It turned out clean! I have bias tape hiding the collar seam, and the bias tape has a red floral in Gold swirl design, not that it's noticeable in photos!

The arm warmers are in a total of three pieces. The black fingerless gloves are separate as is the red hand armor. The red hand armor is made of two types of red pleather that are top stitched and then hand sewn onto a pleather covered foam base. I used four studs and hammered them in place for the details. The wristband is elastic, but quiet a snug fit. There are warmer itself is made from the same materials as the skirt. I added fullness towards the wrist to get the silhouette I wanted. The line between the black and gray is a silver metallic piping. It is subtle, I almost wish I had picked something thicker. But since this was a stash buster, I'm still happy with it. The top cuff is just cut on the bias in an ellipse. I talked black elastic on the inside so that it stays up without causing muffin top arms.

The thigh garter is actually from my first Lenali cosplay, I pin it to my tights so it won't fall off, unfortunately that usually ends up tearing the tights by the end of the day haha.

The wig is a cheap option on Amazon since this was a bit of a rush. It came in thinner than I expected, and the red gradient not exactly how I wanted. The second time I wore her I restyled it and was happier with it at least. The first version I properly made a braided Rose in the back using extra hair, but it was quite a small bun. The second time I wore her I decided to experiment by just using a rose in place of a bun, I thought the aesthetic was very pretty.

She quickly became one of my favorites to cosplay! I really like how I look as her. I hope to cosplay her a lot and take photos with a lot of RWBY cosplayers. If you ever see me at an event please feel free to say hi!
