🌀Void Hoppers🌀

Within the space between dimensions, known as the void, exists a cluster of islands. Formed from the natural death resulting from a dimension colliding with another, this cluster is the only landmass you will find within the void. And on these islands reside the only lifeforms of the vast emptiness: Void Hoppers, the indigenous people of the Void. These tall and agile creatures have a knack for steal from the dimensions that surround them, not batting an eye at the consequences of their thievery. Driven by a need to fill the nothingness of their home, they'll take anything from knickknacks and foods, to buildings and landmass, even animals and people. Unfortunately, their stolen goods cannot persist in the void, and inevitably fade into nothing, causing the Void Hoppers to have to steal more. And thus the cycle continues.

Void Hoppers are born from the remains of a dead dimension.

As infants, they float aimlessly through the void, fast asleep as their small bodies absorb the abuses energy around them.

Once their old enough, and have absorbed enough energy, they then push it towards their feet, forming rough, flat circles of energy that act akin to fins to help them “swim” through the void.

By instinct, the infant Void Hoppers know where to find the Abyssal Market, and are drawn to it. Once there, a caretaker will give them a special harness made from the minerals of the island clusters. These harnesses are magnetic, and help channel and shape the infants “fins” into wheels, keeping them attached to their bodies and allowing for them to hop from island to island, or “swim” through the void.

A Void Hoppers lifespan is about three times a humans, living up to about 300 years.

Void Hoppers have different types of horns, five to be exact. The shape of their horns determines their role within the Void Hopper Society:

Straight up – guard: guard Void Hoppers maintain the peace of the Abyssal Market, making sure no one steals anything from the market, and making sure no…. “merchandise” escaped. They carry out the will of the Leader, and are the ones responsible for delivering messages to gatherers out in the field.

Straight back – Vendor: the ones responsible for carrying out trades. Gatherers bring them goods to trade, which they then will either keep for themselves or trade off to someone else for something better. They regularly trade with both the Gatherers and the “Customers” that visit the Market. They rarely will leave the void.

Straight to the sides – caretaker: these Void Hoppers are responsible for taking care of the younger that find their way to the islands, along with tending to the needs of the leader. They never leaving the void, and remain strictly to the islands at all times.

Curled – gatherer: thieving Void Hoppers responsible for entering the dimensions and “gathering” goods. They leave the void the most, and trade with Vendors regularly.

Double – leader: the one responsible for all Void Hoppers. These ones have even longer lifespans, living for about 500 years. Only near the end of their lifespans is another one born, whom they then take under their wing and train to lead next. Their word is law, and they oversee everything that goes on within the Market. They’re also the only Void Hopper to have golden energy.

This bits of the Void Hoppers:

While in a dimension, a Void Hopper is at risk of dying from overstimulation. Because of this, they’ve developed special masks that act both as an anchor to constantly feed them abyssal energy from the void to help them keep themselves stable, while also dampening the stimulation around them. While it is possible to break the masks, they naturally regenerate overtime. It’s only if a Void Hopper loses their mask that there’s cause for panic, as they will only have an hour to find it, return to the void or perish.

Despite the cold of the void, the Void Hoppers don’t wear a lot of clothes. They will mostly wear pale colored wraps and scarfs, mainly for aesthetic rather than purpose.

While Void Hoppers can speak a wide variety of languages from their travels to other dimensions, along with dealing with inter dimensional “customers”, their native tongue is more primal, and sounds like clicking and chirping. They can even purr and growl!

Despite not reproducing the traditional way, Void Hoppers do indeed still have genitals. Some theorize the Void meant for them to reproduce normally, but simply forgot to implement it when creating them. Because of this, sex isn’t a big deal for Void Hoppers, and they often take part in it for fun, to bond with a fellow Void Hopper and even use it for trade for both Hoppers and “Customers” alike.

The tail, horns, scales and middle toe claws on a Void Hopper is made from an indestructible crystalline like material that is transparent to show the flow of energy beneath.

Void Hoppers have a third eye on their foreheads that they generally keep “asleep”. The only time they open it is to greet each other or when wearing the masks. These third eyes have three types of visions they can use: UV vision that allows them to see things invisible to the naked eye, Normal vision, and Night vision to see in dark places.

It’s not uncommon for Void Hoppers to form relationships with each other, even poly’s are a common sight to see. These romantic relationships are called Attachments

Void Hoppers hate crowds outside of the void. This is mainly due to all the stimuli caused in crowds.

Despite how well Void Hoppers work together in the void, gatherers can be quite territorial over the dimensions they dub as their “hunting grounds” and will often attack each other over a dimension. However this does not impede how they work together once inside the void.

They are commonly male, you’ll very rarely see a female Void Hopper.

The Leader is often identified as either Genderless or Genderfluid

Void Hoppers have four color pallets they can be born with, which usually consist of three colors. The rarest is the White, Light Grey, Dark Grey, as it stands out too much in the void due to the Hoppers white body. Usually this color scheme forms in leaders, as standing out is necessary, however, it’s not unheard of for a common Hopper to have these colors too. The current leader has this color scheme.
