Now, this chapter is a MUCH bigger emotional rollercoaster than it started as. Kūhime plunges the Kamaboko squad into the crushing gravity of her domain to prepare them for the Mugen Train, but while the boys learn the shape of the dark, the Void Hashira discovers that mortal life requires a different kind of seasoning entirely.
Expect chaotic cooking lessons, some bad jokes that send Zenitsu's soul leaving his body, blindfolded training, and an emotional breakthrough on the engawa that will absolutely break your heart. 😭❤️🩹 (I broke my own multiple times in the writing process 😭😭)

Kūhime took a slow sip of the soup. She cataloged the warmth, the complex layers of the broth, and the quiet satisfaction radiating from the women who had prepared it. Intangible sustenance, she noted silently, a rare, genuine contentment filling her vessel.
She finished the meal in comfortable silence. The ancient Void had endured humanity for months, but this morning, surrounded by the quiet banter of her mortal pack and sunlight, it was thriving in it.
Kūhime finished her tea. She lowered the ceramic cup.

The moment the base of the cup met the wooden table, the atmosphere in the dining room snapped. The radiant, affectionate softness in her silver eyes vanished, instantly freezing over into the ancient stasis of the Void. The rich, sweet scent of rum and the warm hearth evaporated in a heartbeat. In its place, a stifling chill—like the biting frost of a high-mountain blizzard and the sharp, metallic tang of a recent lightning strike—flooded the room.
Tengen and the wives went perfectly still. They felt the temperature drop, knowing exactly what the shift meant. Playtime was over.

Tracking the Demon Slayer timeline has been quite the task, but I think I have it figured out! Which could also mean that this is just a collection of head canon 🤔 Regardless. Let's dive in! Normally, I'd save a Taishō Secret for the end of a work, but today, let's lead with one!
Did you know that the destruction of Yoshiwara that happens from the Slayers vs Daki and Gyutaro is based on a real event in history? It's true!
On April 9th, 1911, Yoshiwara suffered a widespread fire that decimated the Pleasure Quarter.
The Demon Slayer universe parallels real history, but also opts to deviate a bit. For instance: the Taishō Era began in 1912, which is likely why the author used Tengen and Gyutaro's explosive, destructive battle as the catalyst in Gotouge's world to pull off the same result: Yoshiwara in ruins.
The canon timeline is off from real history by no less than 1 full year.
But wait, there's more! Gotouge didn't just fudge the year; they also shifted the season. The real-life Yoshiwara fire took place on April 9th—right in the middle of spring. However, if we track Tanjiro's age and the months that pass between the Mugen Train and their infiltration of the Red Light District, the Entertainment District Arc most likely takes place in the dead of winter!
No snow? No problem. Yoshiwara—which was located in Edo (modern-day Tokyo)—does not get snow through most of its winters. In fact, the absence of snow in the Entertainment District Arc is very climatically accurate for a Tokyo winter.
Gotouge needed the dramatic backdrop of the 1911 fire, but they weren't about to let a little thing like the actual calendar break their carefully constructed (and tightly packed) Taishō-era timeline.
So, when is Tanjiro's birthday in the timeline?
If the Entertainment District Arc happens in the winter, we can finally solve the biggest mystery of all: When does Tanjiro's July 14th birthday actually happen on-screen?
Let's work backward! We know there is a roughly 4-month gap between Mugen Train and the Yoshiwara infiltration, which places the Mugen Train arc in the Autumn. Before that, the boys spent three grueling months doing Rehabilitation Training at the Butterfly Mansion.
Counting back three months from Autumn lands us perfectly in June and July! That means Tanjiro's 16th birthday—July 14th—most likely happens right in the middle of the Rehabilitation Training Arc. While he was busy getting splashed with medicinal tea by Kanao and trying to master Total Concentration Breathing: Constant, our boy officially turned 16! Probably.

I am also of the opinion that he gets another birthday during Hashira Training Arc, and is thereby already 17 by the time Infinity Castle kicks off, but the canon timeline adherence gets even shakier.

VOLUME 3 CONTINUES: The Unveiling of Bonds (Festival Finale!) 🎆✨
The wait is over. The God of Festivals has officially claimed his Empress, and the Demon Slayer Corps will never be the same.
Chapter 21: The Unveiling of Bonds is LIVE, bringing this massive two-part, 21,500+ word festival event to its conclusion!
In this chapter, the Hashira finally process the truth of the Void Hashira's integration into the Uzui clan. All of the chaotic misunderstandings are dispelled. We will see the full range of reactions (Rengoku and Mitsuri instantly pivoting from war to romance, Giyu realizing he doesn't have to commit seppuku), Shinobu Kocho realizing she's been outmaneuvered by something out of Mitsuri’s novels, a borrowed dance of ancient lineage under the fireworks, and a deeply emotional, tear-jerking miracle for the Kamado siblings before the shadow of the Mugen Train falls over the estate. (Seriously tho, I caught multiple lumps in my throat during the writing process, couldn't even finish reading some sentences out loud 😭❤️🩹)

Tengen didn't surrender a single second to the collective gasp of the Hashira, nor the inevitable fallout of his flamboyant revelation.
Tengen stepped into her space and pulled her flush against his chest.
He enveloped her completely. His massive, muscular frame and the dense, blood-crimson fabric of his yukata wrapped around her delicate Imperial Violet silk, a physical manifestation of unyielding protection.
Kūhime yielded to his gravity without a single fraction of resistance. She reached up, her pale hands—adorned with the solid gold rings of his clan—sliding up his chest to gently frame his painted face.
Then, Tengen crushed his lips against hers.

It is much quieter here in the dark. Let the broken pieces lie.
NO! The golden fire roared, expanding violently against the crushing weight of her emptiness. I will not let her die! Put the pieces back! Then, the phantom memory of their brutal, exposed death struck him, adding a flushed, frantic spike of human indignity to his grief. And put some clothes on! We are completely bare out there! Someone might see us! It's so improper!
The vessel is a tool, she retorted, deeply annoyed by the sudden, chaotic noise of his modesty mixing with his panic. It possesses no inherent shame, just as a drawn blade feels no embarrassment for being unsheathed.
The Echo's flustered desperation only flared hotter, vibrating against her boundaries and threatening to give her a migraine.
Your insistence is deafening, she sighed, conceding strictly to quell the relentless clamor of his devotion and phantom embarrassment. Very well. I shall reset the board. And if it silences you, I will weave a perimeter to conceal the cage.
[LOCATION: EARTH / THE KUMOTORI MOUNTAINS]
The demon tore another mouthful of flesh from the pale corpse in the snow, chewing frantically despite the deeply unsettling taste of ash and static. It was starving, and meat was meat.
But as it swallowed, the flesh in its throat simply ceased to exist.
The beast choked, gagging on a sudden lungful of empty air. It looked down at its bloodstained claws. The severed arm it had been pinning to the ice dissolved into a lightless, mist-like pitch. The crimson stains in the pristine snow evaporated. The broken, lifeless body beneath the demon unravelled into dark smoke, slipping through its grasping fingers until there was absolutely nothing left.
The demon was left kneeling alone in the snow, its mouth and hands completely empty.
Then, the reality of the mountain stuttered.
Standing exactly three paces away was the pale figure. She was perfectly whole. But she was no longer exposed to the biting wind. As the universe rewound to spit her back into existence, she had pulled the literal darkness of the Void with her.

As I started writing my story, I wanted visuals to help bring the idea to life and make it feel substantial. I am not an illustrator, and I don't claim to possess drawing skills, but I feel incredibly confident in my writing. These generated images served as her illustrated foundation. Eventually, I was able to pass these concepts to human artists as references for commissioned work, bringing her final design to life.
The commissioned works of these artists, built off these initial ideas, now beautifully accompany my AU. But these images are what accompanied where her story first began.

The Premise: Kūhime Shizukuyami is a reimagining of The Long Quiet from Slay The Princess as the Goddess of the Void, the Sovereign of the Empty Sky. When Tanjiro Kamado finds his family slaughtered, his sheer grief shatters her conceptual core. The two are spiritually bound in a partial soul-swap, forcing the ancient, unfeeling Void to experience the emotions of a highly empathetic teenage boy from Taishō-era Japan.
Seeking out the demon who holds her missing core shards, she accidentally develops a minor addiction to human altruism and joins the Demon Slayer Corps that the boy is now a part of—to “observe,” of course.
When she blazes through the ranks and wins a promotion to the top by defeating one of the strongest Hashira in a duel (twice), she catches the eye of the flashiest man in the Corps... and becomes his fourth wife. Over time, the cold stasis of her nature is thawed by the warmth of the Ember inside her, and the found family of the pack she has joined.
Ultimately, the broken Goddess must become whole once more. But if she reclaims what is hers before the boy's soul is ready, it could kill him—and destabilize the Void. To save her Tsuguko and protect the first true hearth she has ever known, the Sovereign of the Empty Sky must perform an impossible balancing act: navigating a bloody, mortal war without shattering the fragile boy carrying her heart, proving that even the deepest, coldest abyss can be anchored by a family's love.

With the seating settled, Rengoku beamed. He immediately slid an unopened bento box across the table. "You should eat, Lady Kūhime! The beef is excellent!"
As she lifted the first bite of beef to her lips, Rengoku watched her. To the physical eye, she was simply a beautiful woman in a black uniform eating a meal. But Kyojuro Rengoku possessed a sharp warrior’s intuition, honed by a lifetime of the Flame’s discipline.
Looking at the woman across from him felt like staring directly into an eclipse—except this one was looking back at him from less than an arm span away. Every instinct in his body screamed that there was an impossible, freezing absence of existence sitting in that booth—a terrifying anomaly that swallowed light and sound. The contrast was delightfully bizarre. The primordial terror was delicately chewing soy-glazed beef, wiping the corner of her mouth with a paper napkin.
As she swallowed, the freezing pressure in the air softened. A soft, beautifully genuine smile graced her lips.
"Umai," she echoed quietly.
