#Opera #singer: Listening to the BEST Queens of the Night: Cristina Deutekom, Edda Moser, & Diana Damrau. Deutekom was my 1st Queen & will always be my favorite with her crystal clear F's & staccato legato technique through the Alle Bande cadenza, though Moser had the "Revenge" thing going full-tilt as a dramatic coloratura soprano. Damrau reminded opera audiences that Mozart's Queen of the Night is NOT a sweet-voiced lyric soprano. I personally find fault with EVERY college voice teacher who pushes this rep on young voices just because the girls can hit the notes. The Queen is a pissed-off middle-aged mother ready to bring down the Apocalypse if her daughter doesn't marry the right guy.
