First off, did you enable NFC on your phone (outside of the app)? If you are entirely sure that you did, then just ignore this paragraph. You can still technically use the app without doing so, but it will not transmit anything. On my phone, it is in Settings under “Connect and Share”. I have to turn the NFC itself on, then also turn “Android Beam” on.

If that is all covered, then are you setting up the 4U+ properly? All you have to do is go to the heart icon (second one), then go down to the third option, then it will come up with the NFC icon. While this icon is up, you put the back of your 4U+ to the back of your phone (you may have to move it around a bit to find the NFC adapter; I hear a sound or my phone vibrates when it detects) after selecting something on your phone to download.

If you have all of that taken care of, I could say to try “transmitting” something to the 4U+ without preparing the 4U+. If the 4U+ gets what it considers a bogus NFC signal, then a random cutscene will play. You can do this by simply selecting something to download on your phone, but not actually setting the 4U+ up to download it (although you do at least have to make sure the 4U+’s screen is on). If a cutscene is not triggered on the 4U+, then your phone might not have NFC capabilities at all or they might not be set up correctly.
