Vocal anon here, voice cracks are common, and will need a couple of minutes to recover. It's possible to power through but voice quality will suffer. When I did some basic vocal training, we were told never to clear our throats even cause that damages vocal quality.

About him going half step lower, I noticed it too. I think he would have gone for it if he was just singing 1 song, but he has to go through a whole set list so he is protecting his voice. I noticed for wow he was skipping most of the high notes only to deliver a very powerful dying. I think it's a learning from pride (because dying was the last song, I could hear a bit of fatigue in his delivery during pride). Just my theory I would have done the same, once your voice cracks it takes quite a bit of time to recover and you don't really want to risk that while singing live.
Omg yes!! Reframing it entirely from a vocal health perspective!! Because let’s be real his shows are a marathon, not a sprint (especially in a tour situation). I also didn’t think about recovery time from a voice crack (I’m a pianist with a passion for music theory, but know pretty little about vocal technique). When you say “quite a bit of time” do you mean in the moment? Or does it leads to issues for the next several days/weeks?
Again, this isn’t meant as a bad thing!! Like, protect those vocal cords king, they’re priceless!! Do what you gotta do to give a great show, because you kill it every time!!
It’s more so I’m curious about his process. Like what goes into deciding “I’ll sing this down a half step” vs. “I’ll sing this in the original key and only do the high notes sometimes” or even “I’ll slightly tweak the melody to keep this in the original key” (sabotage). I just want to know everything about his music process, you know?
I don’t think it’s something he would change if he’s just singing one song? At the very least, he sang Dum down a half step at musikhjälpen in 2021. I’ll be curious to hear what he does if he sings dying at amnesty international or rockbjornen.

I just saw the video of Benson Boone performing Bohemian Rhapsody at Coachella. Tbh, I can't imagine anyone in K-pop even attempting a vocal performance like this. But how much post-performance vocal processing was added? Can you tell?

are raw vocals basically nonexistent in the whole world? yes, no doubt about it haha. you'd learn that very quickly if you became a live sound engineer.

quick distinction. there is post-performance vocal processing and then there is live vocal processing. post-perf vocal processing happens after the performance with the multitracks recorded during the performance. they take the recording from the mic and then process it similarly how to they would for studio recording but not as intensely. live vocal processing happens as it goes through the soundboard and out to the speakers. so for live performances (like coachella) they probably only have live vocal processing, but for pre-recorded performances (any kpop music show), there is always post-perf processing.
so for benson's performance, it's live vocal processing that's happening. as for what is being done, there's autotune and pitch correction (just subtle enough to smooth out his voice so he stays on pitch), vocal compression (to limit dynamic range), eq (to cut down on frequencies to make his voice more pleasant or to get rid of harsh consonants) and then vocal effects like reverb and delay (and multiple different types of reverb and delay). those i can say with almost 100% certainty. i can speculate that there's probably some type of noise reduction on the mic getting rid of any extra noise, like the instruments or the crowd, when he's not singing.
does he sound like he has all this processing happening? no. the audio engineer did a great job then!

I noticed that Vessel sings the "K" in "come on" a bit weird. But I like it and idk how to explain or describe it. But I finally watched the analysis from The Charismatic voice and she explains it....she says:
" it's like a cat hissing" XD
