Blood Runs Dry Devlog #3
Hello, everyone!
It's been a bit since my last devlog. After I released the demo, I said to myself that I would post monthly devlogs of my progress. But it turns out that having a full-time job and juggling freelance work means consistent monthly progress that you can show is difficult, so instead I'll just do devlogs when I have updates worth sharing.
I've been in the weeds of one of the least glamorous parts of making anything: the second draft. While I've done multiple drafts of the demo itself, this is the whole game second draft, or as I've been calling it, the Structural Draft. The goal is big changes, fixing pacing and plot holes, and making sure everything happens for a reason. I haven't edited something this big before, and let me tell you, it's surprisingly difficult, and doesn't leave me with much to share here. But, I can assure you I've had my nose to the grind. I even have a spreadsheet and a scary whiteboard corner.
I recently upgraded it to be less scary.
Sometimes the scariest part is my handwriting.
After the Structural Draft, I'll be doing a Character Draft where I make sure all character actions and behavior is consistent and motivated, then a Thematic Draft to make sure the theme is communicated well and reflected in the work as a whole. Finally, the focus will be proofreading and prose. Hopefully these other drafts will be a lot easier since it's less about building the shape of a work and more about tightening it up.
And in other news, I was surprised to see a boost of views and downloads on itch recently! It's been extremely flattering, this is a real passion project of mine. The fact you all are taking a look at it means the world to me! Great to see you, all you new people!
I hope you enjoy my game.
See you soon!
