Apple, a company that redefined the computer several times over, has managed to launched a $3500 device that at its most basic level cannot let me type words on a fucking page, and it is astonishing that this company would launch a product so utterly ramshackle in its execution. It isnโt clear why, for example, I cannot simply type in this document, check my texts, and then immediately return to my document without the Vision Pro either failing to let me start typing or dropping my cursor in the middle of the page.

When I first purchased this SF2 cab, everything worked great. I didn't know how to repair this stuff at the time and it didn't take long before the monitor started to be problematic (story of my arcade collecting life ๐). If I recall correctly, at first boot the colors would be all sorts of weird and after warm up, it would be fine. Eventually, the warm up didn't resolve the issue and no adjustments made any positive difference.
Within a month or two of truly being in the hobby I did my first cap kit which was a nerve wracking experience, but in the end, no big deal at all. Just be smart about it, take precautions, triple check your work, and it'll be fine. This resolved the issues for some time to come but I eventually had more issues that I couldn't resolve.
Long story short, HAPP was discontinuing the Vision Pro line of monitors...sometime in the mid-2000s I think and I decided to drop the cash on a brand new monitor. That's what we see here. Best decision I ever made, and I really wish I'd had the cash back then to pick up 2 or 3 more as backups. Vision Pro monitors are far from the best thing out there but for home only use, there's a very good chance that this one will last the rest of my life.
The color and clarity are absolutely amazing and anyone in the hobby who has ever stopped by my arcade over the years has commented on how beautiful it is. I think they're all pretty amazed when I tell them it was purchased brand new. I forget the actual cost now, but it was around $200 at the time - I know, right? If only you could find a deal like that now for a brand new CRT arcade monitor.
For the record, I do still have that old monitor in storage. I should probably pull it out and look at it now with several years more experience under my belt.
This is probably it (for now) for my Street Fighter cab. What will be next? ๐ค
