Descent into Hell (1575) - Follower of Hieronymus Bosch
š¹ A Room the Devil Had Prepared for Me
By St. Teresa of Ćvila
Feast Day ⢠Doctor of the Church ⢠Carmelite Mystic
āOne day while in prayer, I suddenly found myself plunged into hell.
The Lord willed that I should see the place the devils had prepared for me ā
the punishment I had deserved by my sins.ā
š„ The Vision
St. Teresa saw a long, narrow passage, like a burning furnace ā
dark, foul, and filled with horrors.
At the end was a small hollow in the wall, a narrow cell ā her prison.
She wrote:
āThe ground was filthy mud, alive with vermin.
The air was poison.
The walls pressed in so tightly I could not move or breathe.
There was no light, yet everything painful to see was visible.ā
But the greatest torment was not physical.
It was the fire within the soul ā the despair, the separation from God.
āI felt myself burning and being torn apart,
and I understood there would be no end, no hope, no comfort.
The fire of this world is nothing compared to that of hell.ā
āø»
š The Mercy
āOur Lord made me feel those torments so that I might know
the mercy by which He saved me from them.ā
That brief moment changed her forever.
She said even after six years, her body still trembled at the memory ā
but her soul burned with gratitude.
āFrom that day, all sufferings on earth seemed nothing to me.
I complain without reason.
The vision destroyed my fear of trials and filled me with strength.ā
āø»
š„ Her Zeal for Souls
Seeing hell made her love souls with fiery compassion:
āTo save even one soul from such torment,
I would gladly die a thousand deaths.ā
She pleaded with us to flee sin and live in holiness:
āNo soul should take rest or pleasure while in danger of mortal sin.
Let us avoid all occasions of sin ā and God will help us.ā
āø»
šļø Her Resolution
āAfter this vision I longed to do penance,
to live my vocation perfectly,
and to give myself entirely to God.ā
āø»
⨠Reflection
St. Teresaās vision is not meant to terrify,
but to awaken hearts to Godās mercy and the reality of eternity.
Her life became a living testimony that
Godās love is stronger than hell, and His mercy rescues even the unworthy.
āø»
š Prayer
āBlessed forever be Thou, O my God,
who hast loved me more than I loved Thee.
Never let me fall from Thy hands.ā
šÆļø St. Teresa of Ćvila, pray for us.
May we live with the holy fear of offending God,
and the burning desire to bring souls to His mercy.

The Booksellerās PortalĀ - Rouen Cathedral
In the Middle Ages, the courtyard outside the north entrance to the cathedralās transept was lined with booksellerās stalls.Ā The Cours des Libraries was enclosed by the Flamboyant Gothic gateway shown in the last two photos.
The tympanum above the late 13th century portal depicts the Last Judgment ā a scene more often used above the central doorway on the main facade of Gothic churches. In the first photo you can see the dead rising from their graves on the lower register, and above that, the sinners being separated from the good people. The damned, including three bishops and a rich man still carrying his sack full of money, are herded by demons towards a boiling cauldron set into the gaping mouth of hell. An exceedingly wicked person is being roasted on a spit directly over the flames.Ā
Oddly, the upper panel of the tympanum was never sculpted. That would have shown Jesus Christ, enthroned in heaven, judging the souls below.

iām thinking about this again because of a reply i just queued, but i do be thinking that valentino would try to manipulate charlie in order to get angel fully back under his control
he starts from the assumption that yes, charlie might have seen some potential in angel as her firstĀ āpatientā, but the whole turf war episode must have proved her that he isnāt entirely to be trusted. maybe he isnāt even interested in redemption and is just looking for something else. maybe he isĀ āincurableā. valentino would pretty much try to claw his way through any possible crack in charlieās trust in angel, all while also manipulating and pressing angel himself to let go of this whole hotel bullshit. so that when either angel decides to leave the hotel for good or charlie deems him a failed project, itāll almost feel natural and not a product of val pulling strings from behind the scenesĀ
