Fig tree leaves in my garden, Fairfax, 2019.
In some traditional Christian calendars, Monday of Holy Week is "Fig Monday." For those into that mythology, it commemorates the cleansing of the temple and an accursed fig tree.
If anyone wants some really cute, high quality, Appalachian themed shirts / mugs / art prints / etc. while also supporting hurricane helene relief, Lost Appalachia is a great little business. I know the owner in passing, and I buy stuff from them every year for Christmas. His shirts are well-made, and I’ve owned several that have lasted 5+ years with minimal wearing of the fabric or the design print. They have an online store or an in-person location in Fayetteville WV.

American Civil War: Second Battle of Bull Run, also known as the Battle of Second Manassas began on August 28, 1862. The battle ended on August 30.
In his book Historie of Travaille Into Virginia Britania, author William Strachey documented some of the many Wives of Wahunsenacah, three children are named and known to be mothered by two of these named wives, though the rest are unknown. Pocahontas Sr. mothered at least two daughters, Mattachanna, as well as Matoaka, better known also as “Pocahontas”. Oholase is known to be the mother of Tatahcoope, who later became Werowance of Quiyoughcohannock when he came of age, which had been under rule by his mother. Winganuske and Pocahontas were known to be Wahunsenacah’s favorite wives. It was Powhatan tradition for the Chief to marry a woman from each tribe within the confederacy, and it was considered a great honor to be chosen for this title: however, women were not obligated to accept the offer, and could return home as soon as they liked, usually after giving birth.
