And funnily enough, I just realized the first pages of both my new and previous sketchbooks are Violette introduction paintings ~

I’m not a native English speaker and I don’t speak French either, but something I’ve always found interesting when searching the Violette name is that it’s pronounced differently from the American English “Violet.”

So I have this headcanon that other students mispronounced her name a lot during the first few months after she arrived at Hogwarts. And since she was born in London, she was probably already used to people saying her name incorrectly. After correcting them once or twice, she would just give up and assume people were calling her whenever they said something close enough.

“Well… my name is actually pronounced Vee-oh-LET, if you really care.” 😅

By the way, I’m not sure if this headcanon is actually accurate haha, cuz I’m not British I haven't traveled to Europe for once. I wonder how British people pronounce “Violette" btw 🤔

I took a look through your posts, and I am in AWE at your works???? Omg,, Especially the thought you so-clearly put into your MC? Especially the wand??? It's just so clear that you put soo much love into your MC and the art that goes along with it and I'm SO excited to ask questions and learn more about you and your art and everything!! (Plus I am fairly unfamiliar with watercolor as a medium but i do know that it's HARD. at least imo 😭)

I'd love to know about the ideas behind your MC, how YOU fleshed out the ideas and plans for thing? Did you plan ahead, or was it more instinctive? I'd love to know about your process for everything! Feel free to say as little or as much as you want, I am a reader 👀

You’re so sweet—thank you so much for taking the time to go through my posts! I’m genuinely so happy you like Violette and her story, that means a lot to me 💞

As for her creation process—well, it’s a bit embarrassing to admit, but at first I didn’t put much thought into creating her. After I finished about half of the HL story, I got completely attached to Sebastian and thought “Okay I definitely need an OC for this game” lol. But I was too lazy to come up with a brand new character. I actually had another Wizarding World persona that I made a long time ago to roleplay with my friend, so I just made her my HL MC—and tada~ that’s the Violette you know now.

The original Violette enrolled in Hogwarts in 2001. She’s literally just me with red hair. She also has a cousin named Noir (that’s my friend), and I decided to make Noir Violette’s cousin in HL too.

Here are some early drawings of her that I did between 2017 and 2019.

The HL Violette has the same design as the original one, but she’s less cool, more shy, more eccentric, more naive and socially awkward. Kind of like a mix between Luna Lovegood and Newt Scamander. I adjusted her personality a bit so she would fit better into Sebastian’s story. And from there, I started thinking about her background, then her story. I noted down ideas like “If Violette has this personality, how would she react to each event in the game?”... The original Violette didn’t have a backstory at al, she was basically just me so when I started brainstorming HL's Violette’s backstory I actually felt very excited 😎😎

Also, I didn’t want to change too much of the main events in the game, so in Violette’s story everything happens exactly as it does in the game. Some writers rewrited the events to fit their MC, even changing everything, but I’m really not good at writing, so I think it’s better for me to let the original events unfold as they are and show how they affect Violette's thinking and personality.

I was actually planning to make illustrations or comics of the main events in the game, but life happened and I couldn’t get around to it. And again, I’m not good at writing 🤒 my English skill is not that level so I try to tell the story through illustrations instead.

Here are some examples of my notes and the idea sketches for my Shadow of the Estate comics (pls dont judge my handwriting and my messy English 😂). But Yeah, I planned to draw almost every major event and I still couldnt find the time to finish half of it ~

Violette’s closest friend at Hogwarts is Poppy, they're both in the same house and have had so many adventures together. The two bonded over their shared love of magical creatures, and chilling sessions in the common room with tea and sweets. Violette has always admired Poppy’s compassion and her courage to defy her own family’s poaching legacy to protect those creatures instead.
