A manga reader's perspective on watching anime
Maybe it’s an artist’s/writer’s perspective, I don’t know, but, I am ok with the fact that half of the anime I am watching right now, I have read the manga for. Knowing what’s going to happen has given me a different sense of anticipation. One that asks “HOW are they going to approach the events and moments that happen in the original story?” I always look forward to the life that the movement, voices, soundtracks, colors and other artistic elements breathe into what was once ink sketching on paper. And I relive those moments more fully through the animation. I can’t view it as “spoiling” myself, more like studying for an exam, I like to know what’s going to be on the test in advance, and I read up. Preparing myself for an even bigger wave of feels later on…
So far the few most recent anime being true to the manga that I personally have been watching are Kamisama Hajimemashita, Akatsuki no Yona, Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso and Shingeki no Kyojin (for the most part, even if they DID add stuff to ACWNR). I look forward to watching my favorite stories unfold and come to life before my eyes.
