“…ok,” he said, swallowing thickly.  He reached for her, and her eyes widened as he pulled her closer.  She scrambled forward, falling into his lap and bracing herself on his shoulders as she sucked in a breath.  She looked up at him through her lashes, her lips parted slightly as heat flooded her face.  “You tell me there’s no difference, then.”

…heaven.

It was definitely heaven.

Author’s Notes/Warnings: According to my notes, this started with an IG Nerd sent me about a girl who met this guy and three days later found this wedding dress super cheap and bought it, and he teased her about it when he found out – until they ended up married & it was totally their dress.  This isn’t exactly that, but it’s kinda in the spirit.  😂

“The Blushing Not-Bride”

“Don’t you just love springtime in Paris?” Rose sighed dreamily as she leaned against the railing of the bow, her arms dangling over the edge and swaying with the breeze.  “The weather…”

“The sunburn,” Juleka drawled.

“…the flowers…” Rose continued, ignoring her girlfriend’s comment.

“The allergies,” Juleka added, sharing a grin with Marinette, who giggled and ducked behind her sketchbook.

“…the romance,” Rose said, turning towards her girlfriend and lifting an expectant eyebrow.  Juleka sighed and slumped back against the rail.

“Ok, fine, you’ve got me there,” she sighed.  Rose giggled and leaned closer, pecking a kiss against her cheek and drawing the faintest hint of color to her pale face.

“Kisses and. . .”

Luka was exhausted.

His limbs felt like lead as he trudged up the four flights of stairs to his flat – because of course the lift was on the fritz and no one had bothered to tell him (Juleka and Rose lived on the floor below him, they could have warned him).  His duffle bag was heavy against his hip, and the guitar on his back somehow felt even heavier.  All he wanted to do was crawl into his bed and crash.

He was supposed to be home a good six, seven hours ago.  He was supposed to get home with more than enough time to meet Juleka and Rose at the charity something or other Rose was coordinating earlier that night.  He couldn’t quite remember what the event was, but he did remember that it was a dressy event and Marinette was supposed to be there.

…he had really been looking forward to that.  Seeing Marinette in whatever masterpiece she had concocted for the party.  Just seeing Marinette, really.

Author’s Notes/Warnings: Y’all.  Y’all.  This has been sitting in the Hoard for about a year (the earliest date I can find associated with it is last August), where it was pretty much just the opening scene and a first draft of the ‘assault’.  And then I opened it yesterday, like “Hey isn’t that the frying pan one???”, and manic!wrote just about the whole thing in a day.  Oops?

“When the Past Hits You”

Luka Couffaine was exhausted.

That…wasn’t entirely anything new.

He’d had a bad habit of…well.  Not sleeping the best the past few years.  Pushing himself too hard, staying up too late, giving a bit more of himself than was probably in his reserves to the hundreds – sometimes thousands – of people who showed up every night.

He was living the dream.  At least that’s what his dad, manager, and dozens of reporters world over told him.  What the friends and family back home who had spent too long supporting him from afar reminded him, every time he started to feel guilty about the time and space between.

Four years, a handful of world tours, and a solo record later…he wasn’t so sure.

It didn’t really feel like a dream anymore.  He didn’t think he’d call it a nightmare, either, but…

“That Time Marinette Burnt the Bread”

Luka knew something was amiss the minute he stepped through the door.

And it wasn’t because the flat was dark and quiet beyond the door.  It was a little past four o’clock in the morning, long before either he or his wife should be expected to be awake.  After all, neither were exactly morning people – though he supposed they could still be up, as he was today, thanks to their unorthodox schedules.  Nights after big shows or delayed flights or rowdy parties.  So maybe it wasn’t super common, but it wasn’t exactly unheard of?

Except he knew for a fact Marinette had been running herself ragged this week with an upcoming show, a large order, new clients, and helping out at her parents’ bakery (thanks to the university student they had hired being busy with finals).  He had also known he would be getting in stupidly late (or stupidly early) and had told her not to wait up for him: she needed her rest, and he would see her in the morning.  Whenever morning turned out to be.

It was fine.

He didn’t plan on going anywhere for a few days, and part of why she had been working so hard was to make sure her schedule for the day he came home was clear.  They had time.

So he wasn’t entirely surprised by the dark, seemingly empty flat.  He fully expected Marinette to be tucked away in their bed, sleeping peacefully in a blanket cocoon.

Marinette glanced up as the tannoy clanged to life.  She glanced at the board as the woman’s voice prattled off another flight that would be delayed due to the weather, and she sighed as she noted there was no change to her own flight.  For now, at least, it looked like she wasn’t going anywhere.

She turned back to her phone and sank lower in the uncomfortable plastic chair.  She hadn’t bothered checking the weather when she’d left that morning, but she’d been on autopilot since Fashion Week had ended twenty…eight hours ago?  She wasn’t entirely sure anymore.  She had wrapped up her last show and had immediately been whisked off to a party one of Audrey’s partners was throwing.  She hadn’t had time to catch any sleep before she’d had to head back to pack up her designs and make sure everything was properly labelled and sorted to the delivery service, and then she’d been dragged off for a series of interviews before she’d had to race back to her hotel to pack and make checkout.  The entire week had been a crazy, exhilarating blur, but the past day had been absolute hell.  Just then, all she really wanted was her own bed, back in Paris, instead of the (admittedly fairly comfortable) hotel bed in New York.

“I Think I Can Help”

Marinette stomped back to her car, grumbling the entire way.  She had left the boot open, and that just made her grumble even more as she reached up to slam it shut with one hand.  The other reached up to her forehead as she closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and held it for a moment.  She pinched the space between her eyebrows, rubbing little circles into it as she released the breath.  Without a second glance, she spun on her heel and stomped back over to the driver’s side.

Wordlessly, she slid into the seat, locked her fingers around the steering wheel in a death grip, and screamed – which was fine, really, because the doors and windows were closed and she’d also thumped her head against the center of the wheel, sounding the horn loud and long enough to drown out the scream for any (potentially concerned) passersby.
