❝  stop  behaving  like  heroes  are  incapable  of  being  disappointments.  ❞    the  bard  hates  it  when  he  gives  her  these  WARNINGS.  it’s  not  their  first  such  conversation  ,  and  she  suspects  it  won’t  be  their  last.  elsie  is  under  no  illusions  that  geralt  is  inevitably  going  to  disappoint  her  at  some  junctures.  he  already  does.  that  doesn’t  mean  he  can’t  still  be  a  HERO  in  her  eyes  for  the  other  things  he  does  --  like  saving  her  life  ,  for  instance  ,  which  he’s  just  done  for  maybe  the  tenth  or  eleventh  time  since  meeting  her.    ❝  you’re  a  hero.  get  used  to  it.  ❞

it  takes  every  ounce  of  self  restraint  elsie  possesses  not  to  answer  yes.  she’s  well  aware  that  if  she  did  ,  geralt  would  very  much  act  on  it  --  it’s  not  just  a  comforting  show  of  support.  instead  ,  she  tucks  her  hands  into  her  coat  pockets  and  shakes  her  head.    ❝  not  worth  it.  ❞    she’s  been  called  a  lot  of  things  and  that  was  hardly  the  worst  of  it.  the  vistani  are  not  well  loved  and  psychics  are  more  often  than  not  thought  to  be  liars  and  thieves  ;  she’s  learned  to  deflect  the  insults  and  not  listen  too  closely  to  the  ruder  skeptics.  

❝  you  don’t  have  a  CHOICE  ,  geralt.  ❞    putting  weight  on  her  leg  is  impossible.  she’s  barely  able  to  sit  still  without  wanting  to  cry  for  how  badly  it  hurts.    ❝  i  can’t  walk  and  you  can’t  wield  your  sword  if  you’re  CARRYING  ME.  what  you  can  do  is  find  jaskier.  ❞    besides  ,  if  she  rests  for  a  time  ,  she’ll  be  able  to  heal  herself  --  she  just  needs  a  little  more  energy  than  she  has  now  --  and  she’s  not  defenseless.  she’s  still  got  branndin’s  silver  dagger.  

𝚃𝙷𝙴 𝚂𝚄𝙶𝙶𝙴𝚂𝚃𝙸𝙾𝙽 𝙳𝙾𝙴𝚂𝙽'𝚃 𝚂𝚄𝚁𝙿𝚁𝙸𝚂𝙴 𝙷𝙸𝙼,  clearly,  it’s a well-traveled road by now,  something that rings awfully familiar to his ears.  and really,  it’s not like he doesn’t get it,  or that he doesn’t find it endearing at times,  this sort of protective streak coming from Geralt  ——  Emil doesn’t have muscles or a big sword on his side,  after all,  but he doesn’t need his friend to fight his battles for him,  surely not when he doesn’t want to fight them at all.  which is most of the times,  the rare chance his patience runs short reserved for serious events.  a stupid comment about magic users is not enough to tip the careful balance of his temper.  he has learned early on to pick his battles,  thankfully for those around him,  more so than himself. he slowly turns towards him,  but does little to hide the grin starting to break the tight line of his mouth,  annoyance slipping away like water down a stream,  and he has to admit it,  for a moment he is almost tempted to give him the go.  it doesn’t last long,  however,  it’s still not worth neither their time or trouble. «  I most definitely don’t.  »    despite the humor,  his words are serious,  tone edging between exasperated and fond.  one he is probably bound to pick up a lot during the years.    «  as much as I would love to see him tragically trip down the stairs,  it’s just not worth the effort.  really Geralt,  leave it  ——  a few mean words won’t kill me.  »
