Summary: The night you agreed to drive out through the woods to pick your sister up from a party was also the night that would change your life forever. Would it be for better, or worse?
PART TWO PART THREE
PART ONE:
You didnât have a lot of friends. Actually, you didnât have any. You were too shy. Too innocent. Too afraid of the world. You didnât do anything adventurous. Didnât go to parties, didnât go to clubs. It wasnât your scene. There was nothing exciting, or thrilling about your life, but honestly, you were okay with it, because your boyfriend Tom was the same way. Youâve been together a few years, and he was the only relationship you have ever had. He was all you knew. You didnât know if it was love, what love was supposed to even feel like since your parents got divorced when you were little.
Sometimes, when you would watch a romantic movie, you felt like you were lacking in your relationship, but that wasnât real right? Love wasnât like how they portrayed it in the movies, not in real life. Maybe what you had with Tom wasnât love, but you were comfortable with him, and honestly, that was all you needed. The world was too big, too scary. You didnât want to meet anyone else. You knew you were safe with your boyfriend.
You lived a simple life, staying at home reading, or watching movies, and for someone who knew so little about love, you sure enjoyed watching it, or reading about it. Mainly, it was because you felt like it was something that didnât actually exist in the real world. You could fantasize that maybe, just maybe, you would get there one day with Tom. You could feel that love for him that you read about in books.
When you closed up your cafe for the day, you got a phone call just as you walked out the door. Your stomach churned. It was your sister.
âHelloâŠâ You answered hesitantly, meekly. âPlease donât ask me for anything, please, please, pleaseâ, you thought to yourself. You always ended up helping when it came to your sister, even when she put you in the most uncomfortable, scary situations, she was still family, after all. Your parents were disappointed in her, so you were the only family member she could come to.
âHey, Y/n, I need your help.â Loud music in the background, she must have been at a party. You shuddered.
âCassieâŠâ
âY/n, Iâm so drunk, I canât drive home, and I also did a line too, so Iâm double faded. Joe and I got in another fight. Iâm so fucked up, Y/n, please⊠I need my sister.â She slurred her words.
âWhere are youâŠ?â You chewed on your fingernails in anxiety as you asked. You really did not enjoy driving in unfamiliar areas. You lived in the city. Nothing ever went wrong here, well, other than the occasional theft. There were a lot of lights, it was safe.
âIâm at Ricardoâs. He always throws the best parties, if you know what I mean.â She laughed drunkenly to herself, also high out of her mind.
âNo, I donât know. Also-â
âOf course, you wouldnât. Youâre so lame.â She yawned.
âJust because I donât-â You cut yourself off, holding it in. You knew she wouldnât remember saying any of this in the morning. âI have to drive through the woods to get to Ricardoâs, Cass⊠I-itâs getting dark.â
âAnd? Donât be a wimp. What are you afraid of, the big bad wolf?â She laughed mockingly.
Wolves didnât exist, but that didnât mean there werenât bad people out in that area. âThatâs not funny.â
âFine, if you donât come get me then I might die here of an overdose.â There it was, and the thing was, you would feel horrible if something happened to your sister. She kept putting herself in these situations, and you came to her rescue every single time. The guilt would eat you alive if you didnât. You still loved her, no matter how badly she treated you when she was under the influence. You still wanted to help her. You cried so many nights for the sister that used to be someone you could lean on before she turned to drugs and bad decisions, and chosing a gang member of a boyfriend. Tom always told you to just cut her off, but you couldnât.
âSend me the address. Just⊠come out please when I call you. I donât want to go inside.â You stressed your last words.
âWhy, afraid you might catch a disease?â She scoffed.
âNo, Cassie, thatâs not it. You know I just donât like being surrounded by a bunch of people. Iâm coming to pick you up, so can you just please do that for me?â Your stomach was tied in knots, nerves flowing through your chest.
âWhatever freak, just hurry.â She said before hanging up. You were used to her nasty words by now. That wasnât anything new. Of course, that didnât mean they didnât hurt still.
You called your boyfriend as you got in your car. He picked up on the first ring. âHey Y/n, Are you coming home?â
âIâm gonna be a whileâŠâ You sighed, and then, âI have to go pick up Cassie.â
âWhen are you going to stop letting her drag you into her destructive ways?â He asked, disappointed.
âSheâs my sister, Tom.â You pointed out.
âNot a very good one.â He remarked.
âI would never forgive myself if something happened to her.â
âFine, but hurry up. I donât want you out late.â He said, and you agreed before hanging up the phone. One thing that bothered you about your relationship, was that he tried telling you what to do all the time. He wanted you to be exactly like him, and do what he did.
The drive through the woods was⊠unsettling to say the least. Even more scary driving out here by yourself, tall trees towering over you. You never came out this way, never had reason to. Out of all the things your sister has made you do, you felt like this was the worst. You didnât like being out here, not one bit. Your stomach would not stop churning.
All of a sudden, something large appeared in your vision, and when you realized it was a dog, you slammed on your breaks, tires screeching on the asphalt, but it happened too fast, too late. You hadnât stopped in time and ended up hitting the animal.
You put your car in park as tears rushed to your cheeks. No, no, no⊠This could not be happening. Please let the poor dog be okay, please. Youâve never been in a situation like this in your entire life, and you panicked. What do you do? You obviously needed to help the poor thing⊠Get it to a vet hospital.
You opened the car door before stepping out of your vehicle, leaving the car door open as you approached the dog lying there in the street. It was huge. Probably the biggest dog you had ever seen in your entire life. You gulped, and as you neared the wounded animal, you noticed that it actually didnât look wounded at all. ImpossibleâŠ
Before you could think more on the matter, the dog- No⊠That was no dog. That was a wolf, and it stared at you with dark, calculating eyes as it walked circles around you. Goosebumps rose to your skin as you stood stalk still. Donât run, donât run. It probably would like the chase. You suddenly realized that this was probably a trick all along, the wolf purposely ran in front of your car. It had you right where it wanted you, but how did it heal itself so quickly? There was one thought that came to mind, and it was so ridiculous that you immediately waved it off. Werewolves did not exist. They didnât.
Suddenly, the wolf stopped directly in front of you, baring its teeth with a snarl. Oh god, it was going to pounce. You were a dead person, you were going to become a wolfâs dinner, torn to shreds. You would never get to go back to your mundane life ever again. Your eyes screwed in terror as you accepted your fate, but when the wolf started whimpering, you blinked your eyes open, only to find it retreating its way back into the trees, disappearing completely.
âWhat theâŠ?â You whispered in astonishment, your heart pounding as you looked left and right for another animal. Another threat. You came up empty.
You shuddered before turning back around to head back to your car. You were getting out of here, and you never wanted to come back. You would tell your sister after you picked her up tonight that if she ever wanted to go to Ricardoâs again after this, then if she could please get someone else to pick her up.
âWerewolves are such peculiar creatures, donât you think?â You froze at the voice, and something about it, had a whole new kind of fear licking up your veins. Something about his voice didnât sound right. He did not sound like a good person. He was not here to help you. You didnât respond, and you didnât turn around to look at him, tears welling up in your eyes. He didnât seem to care that you didnât respond either, content talking to himself.
âThey settle on a prey, but they canât seem to finish them off. Such cowards. Then again, you canât blame them⊠I am the most powerful being around these parts. Of course theyâd scurry off with their tail tucked behind their legs.â He let out a dry humorless chuckle, and that right there, was the moment you took off running just like the wolf did, because if that animal was scared of⊠whatever this man was, then you were downright terrified.
Faster than you could blink, the dark figure appeared in front of you, slamming your car door shut so you couldnât get in, and he looked annoyed. Oh no. âI donât think I like you ignoring me, human, and you should have known better than to run away.â
The man standing before you⊠Was not what you expected. He was dressed in layers of black from head to toe, black polished shoes, black slacks, black dress shirt that was unbuttoned halfway down his chest, long black peacoat on top of it, draping all the way down to his knees, black hair slicked to the side, and dark, soulless eyes looking into your own. He looked young, but something told you he was a lot older than he might appear, and you didnât know why you had that feeling. He was the most beautiful man you had ever seen in your life, and he was downright horrifying. Whatever he was, he was not a human.
âPlease⊠Iâm just going to pick up my sister. If I donât get to her. Iâm afraid something could happen to her. If you let me go, we can just pretend this never happened. I never seen you, you never seen meâŠâ You tried reasoning with him, knowing for a fact that it was not going to get you anywhere. You were his prey now, instead of the wolves. That was a fact.
âHmm, I could, but you see, Iâm very hungry, and you smell⊠divine, and Iâm also not a generous man.â He had you pressed against the car door before you could even process his words, and then a cold nose was pressed right up against your pulse point, and you could practically feel him shudder as he breathed you in, teeth grazing lightly over your skin, a warning. âIâve never smelled blood this good, this pure, and Iâve been alive a very, very long time. I bet youâll taste even better. I might have to keep you alive as a treat, just for me.â
âWh-what! No, no, I donât. Youâre wrong, I wonât taste good.â You were starting to panic, what kind of monster was this man? Your brain was screaming that you knew what he was, but this was absolutely insane. Vampires are not real. They arenât. Youâve gotta be hallucinating. Are you having a nightmare? Why does it feel so real?
âI can hear your heart racing, little human. I can sense it, flowing through your veins. I said I wouldnât kill you, but thatâs if Iâll be able to stopâŠâ You let out a scream at his words, pushing his face away from your neck, fight or flight mode kicking in. It was the wrong move.
He emitted a low, deadly growl, and you regretted looking up at him, because his eyes were now a crazed shade of crimson from blood lust. You let out another scream as his mouth latched onto your neck again, a hand coming up to tilt your head just how he wanted it, and then there were sharp fangs piercing into your skin, which caused you to let out a gasp in pain, your eyes squeezing shut as he drank from you.
The pain surprisingly didnât last long, but you had began to feel lightheaded when he let out a needy moan and sucked harder at the wound his teeth punctured on your neck. The hands that gripped onto his arms fell to your side as you began feeling weak. He was⊠a liar. He was going to kill you. You were going to die. What if you reminded him? Like heâd listen⊠he was a monster. Though, wasnât it atleast worth a try?
âPlease⊠you-youâre killing me⊠You s-said⊠St-stop.â You slurred out, and just as you thought you were about to lose consciousness, he retracted his fangs, licking at the wound on your neck before pulling away, and then proceeding to lick his lips clean of your blood.
You collapsed again the side of your car in relief, although it didnât last long with the look he was giving you. You were afraid to know what it meant.
âCa-can I leave now, please? You got what you wanted.â You tried, feeling the need to lie down. You felt dizzy.
âLeave? And how will you drive in your condition?â He was staring at you like he was starving for you. Like he didnât almost bleed you dry.
âGet in the passenger seat.â He added, and you were feeling too weak to argue, so you did. He was right, you wouldnât be able to drive. You leaned back against the headrest, only looking over at him when he got in on the drivers side.
âAre- are you really still hungry?â Why you would ask such a stupid question was beyond you.
âNo. Itâs your blood, itâs intoxicating. Iâm addicted.â He said darkly, his voice husky. âI want you.â
You blanched, your face turning red. âYo-youâre going to r-rape me?â
He scoffed in response, as if your words were ridiculous. âNo, of course not. When I have sex with a woman, I like them willing, begging me for more. I enjoy pleasuring them, itâs what gives me pleasure.â
For some reason, his words made you blush. It wasnât like you were a virgin, although the only person you ever had sex with was Tom, and it was as vanilla as it could get, which you didnât mind, but your boyfriend has never, not once made you cum. Youâve never felt the pleasure that this vampire was describing.
âThen, what did you mean when you said you wanted me?â You asked hesitantly.
âSimply that, I want you. Iâm going to keep you. Youâre mine now.â He said casually, as if discussing the weather.
âWha- I have a boyfriend! You canât just-â
âNot anymore, break up with him.â
âOr what?â Probably wasnât a good idea to challenge a vampire, and whoa⊠Where was this bravery coming from? You never acted like this, especially not to someone so dangerous.
âOr else, Iâll kill him.â He shrugged, and you gaped.
âYou- you canât be serious. Iâm not breaking up with my boyfriend so I can be your personal blood bank!â You said incredulously.
âDo I seem like Iâm joking, little human? You are-â
âI have a name, you know.â You crossed your arms over you chest.
âAnd what is it?â He asked, intrigued.
âIâm- Iâm not telling you that.â You turned your head to look out the window.
âIâll find it out sooner or later.â
âWell, whatâs your name then, bloodsucker?â
âWow, how original.â He responded dryly. âYouâre very bold, Iâll give you that. Iâm impressed.â
âIâm usually not⊠I donât stand up to people, let alone someone like you. Iâm what people call âinnocentâ. I honestly canât believe it myself⊠I donât know whatâs going on.â You admitted, staring out into the darkness.
âAdrenaline rush.â He said simply, like it was obvious.
âIâve never had one of those before.â You said dumbly.
âWell, now you have.â He started the car. âWhere am I going?â
You hesitated. âAre⊠Youâre not going to kill my sister, are you?â
The vampire acted like he was actually debating the idea, and now that the adrenaline rush was starting to wear off, you were starting to feel scared of him once again. He was unpredictable. âHmm, no, Iâve already been well fed. I mean, unless you want me to?â
âOf course not! You psychopath!â You sputtered out.
âYou have no idea, little human. So, where to?â He began driving off into the woods, and you stumbled out the address. You just wanted to get this over with, and go home to the safety of your home, with your innocent boyfriend. You hoped this man wasnât actually being serious about you being his now. Who just claims someone like that? He doesnât know you. He just selfishly wants you for your blood. Surely, there were others out there who could divert his attention off of you, right?
You were shaken out of your thoughts when the vampire pulled up at the address you gave him. The weird part is, you no longer felt scared to make the drive back home through the woods. The fact that a dangerous undead being was the reason for that, was absolutely insane. Yes, you were still scared of him, but atleast now you wouldnât have to worry about running into something else that would not show you the mercy that he did.
You texted your sister that you were outside. Minutes went by and no answer, of course. You should have known. You sighed, hitting the call button. It rang multiple times before sending you to her voicemail. Great. Just great. Now the anxiety was starting to set in.
âShe told me she wasnât going to do this. I told her I didnât want to go in there. She said that she would come out when I called.â You shook your head, feeling like you might actually cry.
âSo, we leave then.â The man said, but you stopped him before he could start up the engine again.
âI canât.â You blinked back your tears.
âWhy not?â
âSheâs drunk and high out of her mind in there. She always does this to me. I have to make sure sheâs okay. I have no choice but to go in if I want to do that.â You took a deep breath before getting out of the car, and to your surprise the vampire ended up falling into step beside you instead of waiting in the car. You didnât know whether to feel relieved or uneasy.
âYou know, killing her doesnât seem like so much of a bad idea now.â He said casually to himself as you knocked on the door, and you laughed nervously, like he was joking. He was joking, right? The tilted head in you got in response made you gulp.
âPlease, donât do tha-â Your words were interrupted by the door opening, some guy answering. Maybe it was Ricardo, you werenât sure.
âWell hello. Come to join the party? Youâre a little late, but come on in!â The guy smelt strongly of alcohol and looked like he was on some drugs as well.
âIâm actually here to pick up my sister, she called me and said she was ready to leave.â You were fidgeting with your hands, a nervous habit.
âWell youâre welcome to come in and look for her, but nobody in this house looks like theyâre ready to leave.â The guy laughed obnoxiously, as if the idea of wanting to leave his party was the craziest thing heâs ever heard.
You didnât want go in there, you really didnât, but what other choice did you have? You didnât want to get stuck if she chose to gave you a hard time now, and you couldnât just leave her either, not after she called you.
âWhat is your sisterâs name?â You jumped at the voice, forgetting that you had an immortal being in your company. Why on earth did he want to know that?
âIâm not-â
You got a sigh of annoyance before he was cutting you off. âYou donât want to go in there, do you? If you want her to come out here to you, then tell me her name. Iâm losing my patience, and you donât want me to lose my patience.â
âCa-Cassie.â You stuttered out, intimidated by his demeanor. Then again, who wouldnât be? He was a vampire for goodness sakeâs.
Next thing you knew, the scary man was turning to the guy at the door, gripping onto his shirt as he looked him dead in the eyes. âGet Cassie out here, now. If you donât succeed in getting her out of here within the next five minutes, then I will kill you.â
Your jaw dropped in horror, but the guy just nodded his head frantically before disappearing inside the house.
âI donât think that was necessary.â You mumbled out. âYou canât just threaten to kill people.â
The mans eyes darkened. Somehow, youâve managed to make him angry. âSee, thatâs where you are wrong, little human. I can do whatever I want. Iâm a vampire. I think you might be getting the wrong idea about me that I have a heart. It stopped beating a very long time ago.â
âJust because your heart stopped beating doesnât mean that you donât have any humanity left in you.â You whispered, terrified to speak, yet the words spilled out anyway.
He let out a downright feral growl that had you freezing in place as he towered over you, menacingly. âI donât like being scrutinized. Continue to do it, and I will suck you dry, right here, right now. I will drain every ounce of your blood and show you just how much of a heartless monster I really am. Just because I kept you alive, does not make me a generous man. You should do well to remember that.â
âI-I-â You breathed out in fear, not able to form any proper words, but what was even more surprising was the fact that you could feel your panties starting to get wet, and it wasnât a small amount either. Oh godâŠWhy was this happening? You had a boyfriend. You had Tom, except, he never managed to get you wet this fast before. More importantly, there had to be something seriously wrong with you, because how could you get wet from somebody threatening to drain you of blood.
What made this entire situation worse, was that the vampire must have noticed it, he must have smelled it, smelled you, because his eyes flashed crimson for the second time, a smirk rising to his lips. âInteresting.â
No, no, no. You did not want to be interesting to this man⊠This vampire. Your body was betraying you right now. You didnât want this monster, no matter how painfully beautiful he may be.
âNo, I-â Was all you got out before the door was being opened again, and it was your sisterâs boyfriend who shoved her into your arms.
âYou can take care of her worthless ass, Iâm done with her.â Joe shook off his arms, where there was obvious vomit sticking to his clothes.
âDonât call her that.â You defended, the weight of your sister leaning onto you as you tried to keep her up right.
âIâll call her what I want, I donât even know how you put up with her. All she does is talk shit about you, but then again, you are just as worthless as she is, so you two mak-â Joeâs eyes rounded in shocked fear as he was suddenly being slammed against the wall with the vampireâs hand wrapped around his throat, and his faced turned red from his air supply being cut off from the bruising grip.
âHey!â Your sister suddenly slurred out, grabbing for the vampireâs arm, but before it could make contact, he let go of Joe with one hand to instead wrap it around your sisterâs wrist, and it didnât take much to send her stumbling to the ground.
âPathetic.â He said darkly before gripping Joe by the shirt and sending him flying all the way across the yard, landing in the grass with a thud.
âHey.â You tried reasoning with the vampire, standing in front of him to block him from going after Joe who was already injured on the ground.
âY/n⊠wanna go home now.â Your sister called out from the ground, and she sounded so out of it now that she didnât even notice her boyfriend flying 10 feet high across the air.
You ignored her, reaching up to hesitantly place your hand against the immortal beings chest.
âI want to go home. Can you please just take me to my home.â You begged, your voice cracking because what did you do to deserve being put in this horrible situation?
âIâve lost my patience for the day⊠Y/n.â He said your name pointedly, reminding you of his words in the car. âIâll find out sooner or later.â
You jumped when his hand grabbed your wrist, but all he did was remove it from his chest before letting it go. His eyes were crazed, he looked like every bit the being that he was, and yet, he didnât fling you across the yard. Your eyes widened as he moved you aside to finish what he started. He was going to kill Joe if you didnât stop him.
âWait, please!â You knew you were asking for trouble when your fingers fisted into his coat, but you had to try. âWhat if- Can my blood help you calm down?â
âIâve taken enough for now. Youâll die.â He started walking again, but you kept ahold on his coat.
âWhat if we try?â
He rounded on you, and next thing you knew, you were being pressed against the wall, the vampireâs hands resting beside your head. âYou want to risk death for some pathetic human who just degraded you?â
âJoe is⊠not nice, but-â
âNot nice?â The vampire scoffed.
âIâm just saying that doesnât mean you have to kill him.â
âWhat part of Iâm not a generous man do you not understand?â
âPlease, can you just not do this, for me? I donât want to be a part of this.â You stressed, a sob escaping you.
âFor you? Are you asking me for a favor?â
âYes, please.â You got down on your knees as you cried.
âGet up.â He said automatically, clearly unpleased.
You clambered to your feet, wiping away the tears from your eyes. âPle-â
âStop crying. Get your sister, and letâs go, before I change my mind.â He said with clenched fists.
âI donât know if I can carry her on my own-â
A heavy sigh interrupted you, and then the vampire was throwing your sister over his shoulder like nothing before depositing her in the back seat, and then he was opening the passenger side door.
âGet in.â He commanded, and as you ran to the car, you looked down to make sure Joe was still alive, he was, before getting in the car and leaning against the headrest, letting out a few slow, deep breaths. You never wanted to do this again. Ever.
âThank youâŠâ You mumbled when the vampire got in the car, and you averted your eyes with a gulp when he gave you a dark look in response.
He started the car, and you let out a relieved breath this time. Everything was calm now. That was, until your sister opened her mouth.
âY/n, where did you find this delicious man? Hey you⊠Iâm the better sister.â Cassie said drunkenly as she sat up in the car, her form wavering. The vampire was going to start driving, but at her words, he put the car back in park. Oh no. For some reason, her words sparked a fire inside of your gut, and you couldnât figure out why.
âCassie, can you just be quiet, please? I want to get home.â You said, your words barely above a whisper.
âYouâre such a loser, Y/n, canât even travel through the woods by yourself. Gotta have a man come with you. I never pegged you for a whore though, where is Tom?â Your sister snickered in the backseat of the car, eyes glazed over.
âThatâs not what this is-â
The vampire interrupted, the tone of his voice making your blood go cold. âGet out.â
You blanched. âWh-what?â
âI think he told you to get out, Y/n.â Cassie laughed.
âNo.â The man opened the driver side door before getting out to open the back door. âYou, get the fuck out of the vehicle before I drag you out myself and snap your neck off.â
âYou canât be serious! Who the fuck even are you?!â Your sister slurred out in a bout of her own anger.
âIâm your worst nightmare, and Iâm also someone you better hope not to see again. Donât call her for anymore help. Now, get out. I wonât say it again.â He spoke lowly, his words dripped in danger, his eyes burning, not from bloodlust, but from anger, and that got her moving in unadulterated fear, stumbling out of the car before collapsing onto the grass because she couldnât walk straight.
When he got back in the car, you winced as he slammed the door shut, and then he was starting the car and speeding off into the night, driving entirely too fast, and you shouldnât speak, you know you shouldnât, butâŠ
âI canât just leave her there⊠What if something happens-â
âI. Do. Not. Care. I already gave you your favor. Youâre lucky I did not kill her, because I wanted to. I wanted to rip her apart with my bare hands. Her blood was too tainted for my tastes and smelled of chemicals.â He said the last part as an afterthought, but he still looked angry, so you shut up. There was nothing you could say to get him to change his mind. You just hoped that your sister would be okay.
The ride back through the woods was silent. Neither one of you spoke. You knew better than to say anything else. You were physically, and mentally exhausted. You didnât mean to fall asleep in the car next to the worldâs most deadliest creature of the night, but somehow, you werenât worried about him hurting you, and you couldnât help it, your eyes were too heavyâŠ
When you awoke next, it was in a large bed, and it was quite literally the most comfortable bed you had ever been in. Then it hit you that you werenât at home in your own bed. You recalled the events of last night and realized that you had never given the vampire your address. The vampire. Thatâs right, it was real. Vampires⊠Werewolves. You wondered what the heck else was out there?
You couldnât think of that right now though, you needed to check on your sister, you needed to call Tom to let him know you were okay.
You jumped up in bed before searching for your phone, and when you came up empty, you frowned. What time was it anyway? It felt like you slept through the night, but it was so dark in here. The windows were sealed shut with black curtains, and now it made sense. This was a vampires home. He probably couldnât be out in the sunlight.
The door to the bedroom opened a second later, the vampire holding a tray of food in his hands, and when he realized you were sitting up in bed, he flicked the light on. âAh, youâre awake. You slept through half the day, I was beginning to wonder if you would ever wake up. Then again, I donât know how long humans sleep for these days. I havenât been one in centuries.â
Your eyes bugged out of your head. Centuries?! âYou should probably eat, and drink water. Here.â
He passed you the tray of food and set the water on the nightstand.
ââŠThank you.â You whispered, accepting the food. It smelled delicious. How did a vampire who only drank blood even know how to cook? You finished it rather quickly before downing the glass of water in one go.
He got rid of the dishes before coming back again, and now he was just staring at you.
âWhat is it?â You asked warily.
âI decided since youâre mine now, you can stay here with me. We can go to your house and get your things, and you can break up with your boyfriend.â He said casually, and your jaw dropped in disbelief, which he must have taken a different way because he continued talking. âDonât worry, I already told you Iâm not interested in having sex with you against your will.â
âThatâs not- Iâm not- I donât even know your name!â You said incredulously.
âSeokjin.â
âWhat?â
âMy name, Seokjin.â He said, exasperated.
Seokjin. Hearing his name had an unfamiliar feeling coursing through your veins.
âSeokjin⊠I canât just- you canât just claim me. We donât know each other, and you canât just expect me to break up with my boyfriend!â You babbled.
âDo you love him?â That stunned you.
âI-what?â
âYour boyfriend, do you love him?â
âIf I said yes, would you let me go?â
âHmm, no, but I am curious.â He shrugged.
âI donâtâŠ. Iâm comfortable with him. We have a comfortable life, but love, I donât know⊠Truthfully I donât think I believe in the love that I read in books and see on tv. Maybe, Iâm just meant to settle with Tom.â You spoke honestly.
âThat sounds silly. Settling is boring, donât you think?â
âIn case you didnât realize, Iâm a boring person.â
âNo, youâre not. You intrigue me.â
Oh, wonderful. A vampire was intrigued by you.
âWhereâs my phone?â You suddenly asked.
âDownstairs, in the kitchen. Your boyfriend texted you. I used you for your face id to text him back. I let him know that you were alright before telling him you were breaking up and youâd be coming home to get your things.â He said before leaving the bedroom to head back downstairs.
âYou what?!â You followed him down the stairs, grabbing your phone from the counter to see if he was actually serious. He was.
âI canât believe youâŠâ You said in shock, staring down at the messages.
Seokjin smirked before caging you in against the counter, peering down at you. âI know what you felt last night. I think you want someone more⊠exciting. You want someone dangerous.â
âI-I donât know what youâre talking about.â You stuttered out, your entire face flushed, and you felt all hot from his close proximity.
âMm, sure you donât. Itâs fine, little human, you donât have to admit it. Letâs see how long it takes until youâre begging for me to take you, begging to be mine.â His lips traced the shell of your ear, a whisper of a touch that made you shiver before he pulled back entirely.
âWe can go get your things once itâs dark.â He said once more, and what other choice did you have other than to agree? This was a vampire you were dealing with after all. Somehow though, the thought of breaking up with Tom didnât make you as sad as you thought it would, but that didnât mean youâd wanna be doing it because this centuries old vampire told you to.
âI donât understand. If all you want is my blood, why do I need to break up with him?â You asked, not seeming to be able to keep your mouth shut.
âWho said I only wanted your blood? You are mine now, and Iâm rather possessive of what belongs to me. If you donât break up with him, Iâll want to kill him, because nobody touches what is mine.â The vampireâs eyes flashed darkly, and you swallowed noticeably. Youâve never had someone ever act this way over you. You were just⊠you. You werenât anyone special. Certainly not anyone worth a man being possessive over.
Why did it not make you disgusted? Why did you not hate the idea of his words? Instead, you just felt strange, and not in a bad way like you should be feeling.
âI need to call my sister to make sure sheâs okay.â You changed the subject. âYou just left her there.â
âI did you a favor. See, you got two favors from me. Youâre welcome.â Seokjin countered, his tone darkening once again. He acted like he hated everyone. He was so grumpy.
âHow is leaving my messed up sister in the grass doing me a favor?â You asked dubiously.
âOh Iâm sorry, I should have just kept her in the car while you were just letting her talk down to you.â He said sarcastically, not in the least bit sorry at all. âLike I already told you before, youâre lucky I didnât kill her. Either stand up to her, or Iâll intervene.â
âWhat does that mean, youâll intervene?â
âYou know damn well what it means.â
âBut if I-â
He must have known where you were going with that. âItâs not your responsibility to try and fix what doesnât want to be fixed.â
ââŠLike you?â
Seokjin laughed. âIâm a vampire. I canât be fixed.â
âDo you like it?â You asked, and as his brows furrowed in confusion, you clarified. âBeing a vampire?â
His eyes widened as if he wasnât expecting you to ask that, and he just sat there in silence for a good minute. âWhy ask these questions? You should call your sister.â He gestured to your phone.
You frowned. What is that all about? It was a simple question, was it not? You decided to let it go for now, calling Cassie. She answered right before the phone could go to voicemail.
âY/n, hey, Iâm glad you called. Can you come pick me up? Iâm at Ricardoâs. Joe and I officially broke up.â Was the first thing she said.
She must not have remembered anything from last night. You couldnât say you were surprised, she had been heavily intoxicated from both drugs and alcohol, but you were just glad she was alive. âI- I canât, Cassie. You-you need to get help, and I canât keep coming to your rescue only to have you treat me horribly. You have friends, ask one of them for a ride.â
âAre you kidding me, Y/n? How selfish can you be?â She asked, and you were about to give in, but when you looked over at Seokjin, he had that same dark look on his face.
âI- Iâm not selfish, Cass. I have always been there for you. You were the one who has never been there for me, and youâre my big sister. You choose drugs every single day and push everyone around you away, treating them like garbage. If I keep coming to help⊠you just keep doing the same thing. Iâm not saving you by what Iâve been doing, all Iâm doing is giving you reasons to do it again. If I stop doing that, then maybe you will realize and get the help that you need. Iâm not⊠Iâm not going anywhere. Iâm still your sister and you can call me anytime you want to talk, but I canât keep watching you destroy yourself⊠I canât.â Tears gathered in your eyes, your voice breaking as you spoke, and your words were true.
âYou know what? It would have just been better if you were never born. You are worthless, and could die in a ditch and no one would care. No one would even notice, thatâs how meaningless your life really is. Youâre a mistake.â Your sister spit out before hanging up on you, her poisonous words hitting you where it really hurt. What if she was right?
You sat there on the vampireâs couch, stunned. She has said some pretty horrible things to you, but nothing ever this bad. This⊠It had to be the worst thing sheâs ever told you, and you didnât know how you would ever recover from it. As embarrassing as it was breaking down in front of the man sitting beside you, it couldnât be help, your tears staining your cheeks at a steady pace. You would have been afraid of the vampire storming out of the house to go after your sister, but you knew he couldnât leave while it was still light outside. You would worry about that later.
Right now⊠You needed⊠you really needed someone to comfort you. Would a vampire even know how to do that? You didnât know, and you couldnât even look at him, but you did scoot closer to him on the couch, closing the distance to throw your arms around him, burying your face in his neck. His skin was cold, but you didnât care.
He froze completely, his body going stock still as you embraced him, and you freaked out for a fraction of a second that he might be angry, but then his body relaxed, and he didnât push you away. It made you hug him tighter as you cried. He didnât say anything. He didnât need to. Him letting you have this was enough, and honestly, there wasnât anything that could be said that would take away the pain your sisters words caused you.
Still⊠âDonât kill her, please⊠Please.â You whispered the words, but you knew he could hear you from the way he tensed.
A sigh escaped him, and then he was tilting your chin up to look at him. âThatâs three now.â
You were confused. âWha-â
âThree favors. All in the span of less than twenty-four hours.â He shook his head. âI donât know if I can grant you this one.â
âSeokjin⊠Please.â You had no problem resorting to begging.
âNo. I told you, Iâm not-â
âA generous man, I know, but is- is there anything I can say to stop you? It wonât- It will just make me feel worse, and more guiltyâŠâ You tried looking into his dark, soulless eyes, trying to find atleast an ounce of humanity there.
The next thing that happened surprised you, he leaned forward to press a kiss to your forehead, and it had your insides buzzing to life. That was, until he was looking into your eyes, and for the first time since you met him, you felt as if you were in a trance. âDonât cry. What your sister said was not true, say it.â
âWhat my sister said is not trueâŠâ You repeated his words.
âNow believe it, and donât let it cause you pain. Will you do that?â He asked.
âI believe itâŠI wonât let it cause me pain.â You said with glazed over eyes.
âGood, now get some rest.â Your eyes felt heavy, and he caught you when you collapsed in his arms, falling asleep.
The next time you woke up, it was to a foggy brain and your head lying in someoneâs lap. When you peered up at him, his eyes were closed, head leaning against the couch.
âYou sleep?â You wondered aloud to yourself.
His eyes blinked open. âNo. Just resting.â
Your vision was a little blurry, and you blinked several times to clear it. âI feel strange⊠I think there is something wrong with me. I wasnât expecting to sleep moreâŠâ
âNothing is wrong. I compelled you to get more rest.â Seokjin said simply, and then he started running his fingers through your hair.
âYou-wha- why?â You asked, even as you relaxed into his touch. It felt so niceâŠ
âYou needed the rest. You were really upset. Youâre feeling better now, hm?â His fingers paused movement in your hair as he looked down at you.
âI⊠I feel strange. I thought Iâd be more upset at what my sister said to me on the phone, but what she said⊠Itâs not true. Iâm not a mistake. Iâm not worthless, and Iâm not hurt. Why am I not hurt?â You asked, staring back up at the vampire in confusion.
âWhat matters is, you know what she said was not true. Thatâs a good thing.â He resumed running his fingers through your hair, his fingers occasionally scratching over your scalp.
âYeah⊠Yes, youâre right.â You whispered, but you knew yourself. You knew how you were, and there was no way that you wouldnât be upset. You would be taking every word she said to heart, except you werenât, and that wasnât normal for you. âYou compelled me not to be upset, didnât you? When you compelled me to restâŠâ
âYou catch on quick, Y/n.â His tone was amused now. âSuch a smart human.â
You flushed. âCan you⊠not do that anymore, please? It makes me feel weird. I donât like the feeling it gives me.â
âOkay.â Was his response.
âReally?â You were surprised he agreed so easily. He made everything hard in the short amount of time youâve known him. âDo you promise?â
The vampire rolled his eyes with a huff. âYes, I promise. Is my human happy now?â
My human. Your flush turned deeper, and when you chanced a look at him, he was staring at you intently. âWhat?â
He blinked rapidly to clear whatever thoughts were running through his head. This vampire was for sure an enigma. âLetâs go get your things.â
âThere- There really isnât much to get other than some clothes and some books, and I would rather not get it at the same time I break up with him. That would be awkward⊠I would rather come back to get my things when heâs not home.â You explained.
âOkay.â Seokjin responded, making to get up, and you stopped him with a gentle hand on his chest.
âCan you stay here? It would look bad to have you come with me. I donât want him to think that I cheated on him when that isnât the case, and I also donât want you to get angry and attempt to kill him.â You said nervously, afraid the vampire was about to turn you down.
âI donât think-â
âIâll come back, I promise. After I end things, Iâll come back here. Itâs not like you wouldnât come find me if I didnât anywaysâŠâ You added.
Seokjin clenched his fists, a slow controlled breath leaving him before he relaxed. âFine.â
âThank you.â You responded immediately, getting up.
âWhen will you be back?â He asked from the couch. Oh my gosh, this vampire was actually obsessed with you. You never got this kind of attention from Tom.
âI-I wonât be long.â You stuttered, still intimidated by the vampire.
After he nodded in response, you slipped your shoes on before walking outside, and you immediately frowned. There were trees everywhere⊠Not a sign of any other houses around. You were still in the woods⊠The thought made you shiver in dread, and as you turned back around to face the vampireâs house- No, that wasnât a house, it was a gigantic mansion. It looked ancient.
Seokjin looked surprised when you walked back inside the door, his eyes dropping to where you were wavering on your feet. âWhat is it?â
âI- um⊠Actually, you can come with⊠I didnât realize we were in the woods still. If you can just stay in the car though, that would be nice.â You said quietly.
âDonât worry. Youâll be fine. Nothing out there is going to harm you now.â
âHow can you be sure?â
âThey wouldnât dare because they know they would end up dead. I promise you. Do you trust me?â
The answer to that should be no. In what world could you trust a vampire? Somehow though, when you looked at him, your soul believed him. Woah, that was a strange feeling. âYes.â
âGood girl.â His pleased answer shouldnât have made you blush, but it did, your entire face turning scarlet. Before you could embarrass yourself further you walked back outside that door. You could do this.

Fumbling with your keys, you tried to wedge them between your fingers, your pocketknife a reassuring weight in your other pocket. It was late, dark, and winter had a way of making everything eerily silent.
Tonight, you were in charge of closing the library. Your coworkers lived in opposite directions, leaving you to navigate the cold streets alone. Two routes lay before you: the long way, well-lit but littered with rowdy bar-goers and men who were a little too comfortable getting a little too close, or the shortcut through the dimly lit alley but was a straight shot to the other side. One was safer but full of potential annoyances; the other was just outright stupid.
Cold nipped at your exposed skin, and you shivered. You could already hear the noise from up the street and you didnât have the energy to fight anyone off tonight. Nope. Not worth it tonight. You turned up the street and ducked into the alley, pulling your jacket tighter around yourself.
Quick and easy. No stopping. Donât look at anything.
The sound of rain dripping from pipes and rooftops was all you could hear. It masked everything else, which, in hindsight, made it even worse because now you couldnât hear what you were actively trying to keep an ear out for. Untilâ
Clang.
Could have been an animal but you knew better though. You could tell, someone was definitely behind you. As light on their feet as they were, you could pick out the steps they took.Â
You reach into your pocket. Pulling out the knife. Slipping it open and gripping it tight in your hand. Not your best self defense weapon it works for a good scare.Â
âAll right letâs get this over with.â You mutter under your breath twisting around on your heel, the person was obscured, the darkness surrounding them. âMight as well show yourself.âÂ
The dark figure stepped out into the alleyway. Taking a wide stance, placing their hands on their hips. Superhero. You cocked an eyebrow before they spoke in a low rumbling tone, âIâm Batman.âÂ
Realization settled over you and all of your nerves faded away instantly.Â
âJungkook!â You whined. Folding your knife back up looking down and putting it back in your pocket. His presence appears next to you with a push of the wind around you.Â
âHi baby.â Jungkook snaked his arms around your waist pulling you into him. Kissing you on the cheek. Nudging his nose into your neck and breathing in deeply. Taking in all of your scent. âGod you smell good.âÂ
This is Jungkook, your boyfriend, and evidently a vampire.Â
âYou know you scared the shit out of me?â You hit him in the shoulder, trying to shove him away but failing. His eyes were wide and his red irises dilated with intent. He had a shit eating grin plastered across his face as well as he pulled his face away from you.Â
âIâm sorry. I seem to recall you promising me you wouldnât cut through dark sketchy alleyways anymore.â He pouts but his tone was serious, you roll your eyes. You manage to pull yourself away and continue down the alley, Jungkook right on your tail.Â
âI seem to recall you saying you wouldnât check up on me like this after work.â You cross your arms over yourself preserving the warmth you had.
 âI was out and I was going to walk with you as a surprise! Then I saw you duck into the alleyway.â His hand looped through one of your arms and around your elbow, pulling it free from its fold. âThis century has phones baby, I may be old but I know how it all works. Just call me next time you donât feel safe.âÂ
You let out an annoyed sigh, knowing heâs right. âI know I know. It was stupid and I was just trying to make it back quick tonight. I know it was stupid.âÂ
âI just want you to get home in one piece please.â Jungkook whined, sliding his hand down to wrap his hand in yours. Cold fingertips enveloping your fingers. âIâm also not the only vampire in these partsâ
âYouâre all cold.â Holding his cold fingers between both of your paths to warm them up. You tease trying to lighten the mood and it seems to work some. A small smile tugging at the corner of his lips.Â
âMmm, well I have you now to warm me up.â Not that Jungkook could tell the difference but you definitely could.Â
Vampires werenât just ice cold like in the movies. Their temperature adapted to their surroundings like bottles of water. Fresh blood warmed them up, heaters helped, but they couldnât actually feel the temperature. Jungkook made an effort to stay warm for you, though. You were hot blooded and having a boyfriend that stayed roughly 20 degrees colder, he tried to warm himself up just enough for you.Â
Because of that, thatâs how you noticed it; his fingers trembled slightly, which was definitely not a reaction to the cold air outside.
âYouâre shaky.â You frowned, the quivering clear.
"...Just a little hungry." Jungkook shook his head, rolling his shoulders, as if he could shake off the craving, bury it beneath sheer willpower.
You frowned, your gaze flicking to his hands. "You get the shakes when you push it too far. You should go get something to eat. Iâm sure there are some drunk guys back there you could snack on."
He exhaled sharply, rolling his eyes. "It's fine. I'll eat when we get home."
But you knew better.
You knew the way his pupils dilated too wide the moment he saw you. How his gaze kept flickering to your throat, your wrist, anywhere he could hear it. Feel it. The steady, pulsing rhythm of your heartbeat drumming against his restraint.
Jungkook was careful, always careful. But hunger had a way of gnawing at even the most controlled instincts. You saw it in the way his jaw tensed, how his fingers flexed, how his breath stuttered just slightly every time you moved too close.
He was trying so hard to ignore it.
Trying not to listen to the blood rushing beneath your skin.
Trying not to stare.
âJust take some of mine tonight.â Your voice cut through the noise of your own blood.Â
Jungkook perked up a little, eyes dilating further. âReally?âÂ
âDonât get too excited, just a little bit. I still have to work tomorrow.â You smirked, dragging him along behind you.
Jungkook tilts his head, âYou make it sound like I only see you as a blood bank or something.â He looks down to his feet and a pout on his lips. You stop his train of thought though and bring both of your hands to both of his cheeks.
âIâm teasing.â You rub his cheeks with your thumbs, the coldness seeping away with the warmth you present them. âTake what you need vampire boy. Are you going to sit here and act like youâre not excited about it?âÂ
He nods his head from side to side, chewing on his bottom lip. A hint of a fang peaking out. âAnything to do with you makes me excited.âÂ
âDonât be gross.â You shove him again, but he doesnât let you go. âLetâs get home and you can take what you need.âÂ
Jungkook hesitated but you had that determined look in your eyes. You werenât going to let this go so easily, âFine, but Iâm having some other blood first!â
There was a certain giddiness in your steps now.âOh Iâm gonna sleep so good tonight.â
âThat should not be the main reason to let me drink from you!â Jungkook protested and you dragged him along the streets swinging your connected hands. A small giggle falling from your lips.
You really didnât mind when he drank off of you and you really did get the best sleep after since you would be literally drained. Jungkook never understood how you couldnât really mind doing it but he didnât find much he was surprised with you anymore.Â
Your ability to just be so cool and casual about the vampire things sometimes still throws him off though. He also loved it that you were just so cool because a lot of people werenât and have not been. You had a certain curiosity and willingness to learn.Â
None of it scared you, it was actually cool to learn that vampires were real. Although you didnât really initially believe it when Jungkook told you what he was.Â
This was a conversation he had meant to have for a long time. A year, maybe longer. He always found reasons to delay it, to avoid it. It wasnât going to be a problem telling you; he had gotten the go-ahead from everyone. Actually, heâd had it for over a year now, but their approval didnât matter. What mattered was what came after he told you.
Were you going to freak out? Would you believe him? Would you be mad?Â
A million different scenarios had run through his head all week about how this could go. The possibilities gnawed at him so deeply that he had unintentionally been avoiding you. Not responding to texts or calls as quickly. Avoiding hanging out or dates. It was entirely out of character. The longest the two of you had ever gone without seeing each other was five days, and that was only because of a vacation. Now, over a week had passed, and his silence was suffocating you.
You didnât think anything was wrong but this sudden distance and silence from Jungkook was freaking you out. Had you done something or said something to make Jungkook mad? Did you do something that was upsetting? Was he just not feeling it anymore? You had broached the topic of moving in together recently and you wondered if that had made Jungkook uneasy. Everything seemed fine up until now. Almost perfect even, then suddenly Jungkook had completely closed himself off.Â
You were jumping to the worst conclusions, the biggest one, a break up. Which is what you had been emotionally preparing for. Jungkook was going to dump you and you would just have to deal with that. Easily, you could already feel this would be the biggest break up of your life. The both of you had already shared and done so much together, you couldnât imagine giving yourself to someone else the same way.Â
Thatâs when Jungkook said he wanted to come over tonight to talk about something, you were doing everything in your power to keep yourself composed. You had been shaking and anxious since you got the text.Â
Even worse when you get the knock on the door.Â
With your hands still shaking and your heart pounding in your ears. You twist the knob and pull the door open, Jungkook standing with a soft smile on his face standing in front of you. The smile disarming you slightly.Â
âHi.â You said, forcing a smile back as you tried to hide the storm brewing inside you.
âHi baby.â Jungkook hesitates a step forward, but can sense some unease coming from you. âCan I come in?âÂ
You hadnât realized that you hadnât opened the door enough that he could enter. You clear your throat, âYes⊠obviously.â You open the door and step to the side so he can come in. The pet name was a good sign but you are still on edge.Â
As he walked in, the silence in your studio apartment felt deafening. Every creak of the floorboards, every breath you took, seemed to echo. You closed the door, the sound reverberating through the small space, amplifying the tension. Jungkook paused in the middle of the room, uncharacteristically quiet, his steps heavy with unspoken words.
You moved around him, trying to read his face. He looked tired and conflicted, his teeth tugging at his bottom lip. He avoided your gaze. With your anxiety spiking, you retreated to the bed, the only real place to sit in your tiny space. Perched on the edge, you gripped the blanket beneath you like a lifeline.
âYou wanted to talk?â Your voice was a little hoarse. Feeling like your entire body was about to start shaking.Â
Jungkook nodded, his fingers fidgeting as if searching for something to anchor him. âI⊠I donât really know how to say this.â He began, pacing back and forth. âIâve been thinking about this for so long, and now that Iâm here, I⊠I donât know how.â
The growing sense of dread in your chest felt unbearable. You couldnât take it anymore. âIfâŠâ You paused, swallowing the lump in your throat. âIf youâre just going to dump me, please donât drag it out. Just say it.â
Jungkook's eyes widened for a moment, âWhat?âÂ
You look at him, seeing the visible confusion on his face. âThatâs what this is right? You wanted to talk⊠and that typically means you want to end things.âÂ
âY/N.â Jungkook starts but with a wave of your hand you cut him off.Â
âNo, itâs okay. If thatâs what this is, it's fine, just please donât make me wait to hear it.â You hadnât realised but you were digging your fingers into your mattress now. So hard your knuckles had gone white.
Jungkook paused for a second before he laughed, tilting his head. Eyes sympathetic. âOh baby.â He comes over and kneels on the ground in front of you.Â
âDonât laugh at me.â You whine, his smile felt almost mocking now.Â
âIâm not laughing at you. Iâm not breaking up with you.â Jungkook sighs, he reaches and takes your hands in yours. Lacing your fingers together, âI love you, I donât want to break up.âÂ
You stay silent, his face has returned to its familiar soft nature versus the stressed one a moment ago. He wasnât lying. âWhat?âÂ
âWe arenât breaking up.â Jungkook kisses both of your hands, soothingly. Holding them close. Watching your face morph from concern to relaxation as his words settle in. âWhy would you think that?â
You let out a heavy sigh you didnât realize you were holding in, âOh⊠is asked about moving in. I thought I had freaked you out or something and you were going to bolt.âÂ
Jungkook laughed some more, just a quiet laugh under his breath. âYou really think asking me to move in together freaked me out? We basically live together already.âÂ
Your mouth falls into a pout, âI donât know! You were all quiet and weird! I didnât see you at all this week and you were barely talking to me!â You lay back on your bed, covering your face with your hands. Maybe you did jump to too many conclusions, but all the behavior this week was weird.Â
Jungkook gets to his feets but lays down next to you on your bed. âI do have something to tell you and it is serious. I just didnât know how I wanted to tell you yet so I didnât want to talk to you until I figured out how I wanted to do it.â He rested his hand on your stomach, wanting to pull you closer but letting you stay where you were.Â
You peak between your fingers to look at him. Jungkook's eyes are full of love only for you and no malicious intent behind them. âIs it going to give me a heart attack? Like the one you almost just gave me?âÂ
Jungkook shakes his head. âMight be confusing but hopefully no heart attack.âÂ
âWell tell me. I can handle basically any news now.â You both sit back up on your bed. You pull your legs under you so your legs are crossed together.Â
Jungkook paused. Now he really had to face the music. You could tell whatever it was really was serious and probably wasnât going to be easy. He just needed to do it. He just needed to rip the bandaid off and say it. Get it off his chest. There was no easy way, and he would spend a lifetime explaining if he needed to.Â
âOkay.â He stayed quiet for a moment, âI-... shit this is hard.âÂ
You watched as he figured this out in his mind. You could tell he was really jumping through hoops. You, trying to break the tension, say, âYouâre not pregnant right? Iâm not ready to be a dad.â
You laugh at your own joke but Jungkook just rolls his eyes with a smile. Knowing you arenât serious and just trying to make this easier. Jungkook continues, âThis is serious!â
âSorry. Take your time. You know you can tell me anything.â You say with sincerity, reaching a hand to rub his arm.Â
âI know.â He nodded, âEverything⊠will be different. Everything will change.âÂ
âOkay, now you are really making me nervous.â You shift uncomfortably on the bed, you really hoped something wasnât wrong. Like he was sick or something.
He looks between your eyes for a moment, the whole nature of the relationship you two had may just crumble in a moment. Everything that you knew would suddenly be unknown. That terrified him. He couldnât predict what would happen next. He can say everything perfect and could be just right and still not know what you would say next.Â
Just say it.
âIâm⊠Iâm a vampire.â Jungkook whispers.
Your eyebrows knit together not fully hearing him, âWhat?â
Jungkook takes in a long long deep breath, meeting your eyes. âIâm a vampire.â
Silence fell over the room. Neither of you said a thing, you were just staring between Jungkook's eyes. Trying to find a lie. Trying to find a reason? Because this surely had to be a joke. He had to be joking.Â
âHoney.â Jungkook places a hand on your knee for a moment. You reflexively pull it back.Â
âWow.â You say, a small shake to your head. A certain mistiness to your eyes. âIâve heard a lot of excuses but this really takes the cake.â You stand up from the bed back facing to Jungkook. His face contorted into concern watching you.Â
âWhat? What are you talking about?â Jungkook moves so heâs sitting on the side of the bed now.Â
You turn around, clear hurt in your eyes. âYou know it actually would have been kinder to just dump me versus saying something insane to get me to dump you. If thatâs what you want thenââ
Jungkook stands for a moment, pausing your train of thought. âIâm-Iâm not lying though.âÂ
âYeah, right. Iâm a vampire. Thatâs rich.â You start laughing at the ridiculousness of it. Trying to overwhelm the pain forming in your chest.Â
âHave I ever given you a reason to think Iâm lying? Have I ever given you any reason to doubt me?â Jungkook steps toward you and you stand your ground. You donât answer him but just shake your head. You looked angry and so he was thinking of anything he could do. âWhy would I suddenly make up a wild story to get you to break up with me?âÂ
You let out a noise of annoyance,âBecause you wanted an easy way out, I donât know!â A small huff trailing behind your words.Â
Jungkook places both of his hands on your shoulders, âY/N this is real. Iâm telling you the truth. I love you, I would never lie to you about something like this. I am⊠a vampire. Iâm not trying to make an excuse, this is real.â His grip was tight on you, tighter than you had ever felt before. Unnaturally so.
Nothing in the way he was speaking seemed like a lie. No malice or farce, which was the part that was confusing you the most. It was completely sincere. As far as you had known he had never lied to you. That little voice of self preservation was still ringing in your mind though, telling you to get out. To run. âIf⊠Well⊠Then⊠Then prove it.âÂ
âWhat?â
âIf youâre a vampire then there are surely ways to prove it⊠So prove it.â You look into his eyes now. If he had any chance of saving this it was now, he had to show you everything or else you would be done. Which he was more than ready to do.
Jungkookâs mouth did move but you very distinctly heard him say, Okay. Like an echo inside your mind you almost couldnât convince yourself he hadnât just said it.
He brought his hands up to his eyes, pinching something, contacts. He took them from both eyes, pulling out a contact lens case from a pocket and placing them back in respectively. Jungkook lifted his head again to reveal not the dark brown ones you were so used to but ones that were a deep crimson. Could almost look brown in certain lights, but they were definitely red. Then Jungkook opened his mouth and you watched as two sets of fangs detracted down over where his k9âs were. Two long and what you could only imagine were incredibly sharp fangs.
Jungkook just took in your reaction, you blinked a few times standing in silence. No change in expression to show what you were thinking or feeling. The sweet boy you had come to know and love had transformed in front of your eyes. Although his new features seemed to initiate a fight or flight response in you, Jungkook could sense it. He tried to reach out to you but you flinched, just enough for him to notice.Â
He wanted desperately to bring you closer, but he needed to let you take it all in.
âI know. Itâs⊠a lot. I just couldnât keep it a secret anymoreââÂ
âThis is so cool!â Your face morphed into a look of complete fascination. Voice shooting up and octave. Your sudden change in demeanor threw Jungkook off, you took quick steps toward him and suddenly you were pushing him to sit on the bed again. You fingers swiftly move into his mouth holding his lips up away from his gums, inspecting his teeth.Â
Jungkook sat dumbfounded and eyes wide for a moment, he wasnât prepared nor expecting this kind of outburst. You were gripping onto each side of his head, Moving it from side to side so you could get a good look at them. They were pretty big and seemed to just come out of nowhere from the roof of his mouth. Completely replaced where his regular teeth were. They were pretty and almost seemed to fit him more naturally than his regular teeth. Your thumbs were still pulling at his lips revealing his gums, viewing where the fangs hide.Â
âSo these just retract and detract? Do you do it on command? Does it hurt?â You say as your lean your eyes close into his mouth viewing the anatomy. Jungkook stifled a laugh because he wasnât really able to get words out with your thumbs in his mouth. You traced one of them with your thumbs, but accidentally pricked yourself on the end of it. âOkay, sharper than I thought.âÂ
The smell of your blood being so close to Jungkook's nose made his pupils dilate instantly, you watched it happen but Jungkook kept himself still. It was always a natural reaction to blood.Â
âCareful.â Jungkook pushed your hands away while holding your wrists in his hands. âThey hide up inside of my skull and I can do it on command. It doesnât hurt anymore though.âÂ
âShow me again.â You smile, a small hint of anticipation lacing your voice. âPlease?âÂ
Jungkook nods, opening his mouth. He releases one of your hands so you can push back his lip again with your thumb. As Jungkook pushes his fangs in and out of their place and you can visibly see how they move up and down. You were completely mesmerized by the action. Just watching his fangs seems to take their rightful place in his mouth. It was so weird to watch but also extremely fascinating. You let his lip go at a certain point once your curiosity had been satisfied. Jungkook traced the inside of his lips with his tongue to comfort the muscle that had been forced back.
You found your fascination had moved from his teeth back to his eyes. âYou wore color contacts this whole time?â Your hands found their way to his cheeks, looking between his eyes. Tracing, with your eyes, the new unfamiliar color that lined them. These were his real eyes.Â
âCanât exactly walk around with red eyes without some suspicion or stares.â Jungkook smiled, he could relax again, placing his hands on the side of your body as you just observed him. No, inspected him, like you were in a lab. He didnât mind, you could ask him anything and he will tell you whatever you want.Â
You were still stuck on his eyes. They were such a dark red, velvety. They suited him well. The same ones you had looked at so many times but now you were actually seeing them. âTheyâre beautiful.âÂ
âReally?â His heart felt like it skipped a beat in his chest, your first complement of his true appearance.
âI love them. Theyâre⊠I donât even have the words. Theyâre⊠you. This is you.â Because this is the first time you really were seeing him, seeing him for everything. You thought you knew him before but it was all complete now.Â
âThis is me.â Jungkook whispered, a weight finally being taken away from him. No more hiding.Â
You just stand there quietly staring at him, imprinting this moment in your memory. Taking in every detail. But you couldnât help but have a million different things also running through your mind. A million different questions and a million thoughts about what this means now.Â
Jungkook could see you running through every question in your mind, just waiting for you to ask. He had nothing in his head though, nothing he wanted to think about. You were here, and you werenât mad. You were here and you were excited. You were still here and you werenât sending him away.Â
âI have just⊠so many things I want to ask.â You rock a little bit on your feet. Anticipation eating you from the inside out.Â
âAsk anything. Iâll tell you whatever you want.â Jungkook jumped on the end of your sentence, eager, insistent. He wanted to give you every answer. He would give you everything.
âWell⊠uhh⊠I donât know. Um.â Your mind flipped through every vampire story you had ever heard, sifting through myths and legends, trying to figure out where to start. âOkay. Speed? Strength? Is that real, or just a fairy tale?â
âThatâs all real.â Jungkook said without hesitation. âIâve actually been faking straining when I pick up heavy things for you. It doesnât feel like anything.â He shrugged, as if admitting to a harmless prank.
âReally? Show me!â Excitement bubbled up in your chest, making you bounce slightly on your heels.
Jungkook grinned, standing from the bed with a casual ease. He turned, scanning your apartment, his sharp gaze flicking over every object. His eyes landed on your massive wooden dresser. The one that had nearly killed you when you first moved in, requiring the help of two friends and a ridiculous amount of cursing just to get it through the door.
Without hesitation, Jungkook strode toward it. He crouched slightly, slipping both hands beneath the base, but there was no visible effort. No tensed muscles, no grunt of exertion; just an easy, almost lazy movement as he lifted it clean off the floor. The dresser, heavy enough to crush a human, might as well have been a stack of pillows in his grip.
âSee?â He turned his head toward you, lifting it up and down a few times as if he were curling a dumbbell at the gym. He even tossed it lightly into the air, barely an inch, just enough to make your stomach lurch with the thought of it crashing down, before catching it again.
Your mouth fell open.
"Holy shit.â
Jungkook grinned and set the dresser back in place with an almost exaggerated gentleness, as if it were made of glass. His hands lingered on it for a moment before he turned back to you, his eyes gleaming with amusement.
âThis is so cool! I never have to lift anything ever again.â You said, your mind still struggling to process what you had just seen. âIâll just have you do it.â
âOh yeah?â He was suddenly in front of you, closing the space in an instant, his presence comforting despite what you thought vampires were supposed to be. âAm I your pack mule now?â
âOnly for the really heavy stuff.â You teased, tilting your head up at him.
Jungkook chuckled, his fangs barely flashing as his smile grew. Then his hands came up, cupping your face with a gentleness that contradicted the sheer, terrifying strength you had just witnessed. His thumbs brushed over your cheekbones, grounding you in the moment.
âAsk me more.â He said, his voice softer now. âPlease. I want to answer all of your questions. No matter how long it takes.âÂ
Your heart pounded against your ribs.
âThis is just so insane. You really are⊠a vampire.â The words left your lips like an exhale, the weight of them heavy in the air.
Jungkook just smiled, his hands never leaving your face. âYeah,â He murmured. âand youâre not scared.â
It wasnât a question. It was an observation, one that made something deep inside you shift.
Because he was right. You werenât scared. You were fascinated.
âFor how long?â You asked, studying him carefully. âAre you actually twenty-seven?â
Jungkookâs lips pressed together for a moment. Then he shook his head, his eyes briefly flicking away before he forced himself to meet your gaze again. âIâm⊠much older.â
You tilted your head, narrowing your eyes. âHow much older?â
âFive hundred and twenty-three.â
Silence.
Your mouth parted slightly, your mind struggling to wrap itself around the number. Five hundred. And twenty-three. Your eyes widened as the realization fully sank in, and before you could stop yourself, a small, disbelieving laugh bubbled out of you. You clapped your hands over your mouth.
âOh my god.â Another breathy laugh. âYouâre so old!â
Jungkookâs expression immediately twisted into one of betrayal, his brows knitting together. âHey!â
You dropped your hands, grinning at his wounded look. âCradle robber.â
âStop.â
âSorry, I just didnât realize I was dating a man with both feet literally in the grave!â
âY/N!â Jungkook groaned, his head dropping forward in exaggerated defeat. He pouted, lips forming the perfect shape of a complaint. You giggled, the sound light and unbothered, before reaching up to pull his face closer. You pressed small, playful kisses along his jaw, his cheekbones, the tip of his nose. Each one chasing away the wounded puppy look on his face. Replaced with a crooked smile.Â
âI just needed to get it out! I promise itâs fine!â You laugh some more to Jungkook's dismay, but you settle for a moment and another thought creeps in. âIs that strange? Youâve seen the world change so many times.â You rub your hands up and down his arms in a soothing motion.
Jungkookâs hands found your waist, his thumbs brushing absentmindedly along your sides. âItâs funny⊠itâs just normal now.â His voice softened, more thoughtful. âI think Iâve liked this century the best so far. I miss certain things about the past, but I also donât.â His dark eyes searched yours, as if debating whether to say more. âItâs exciting to see what will become of humans.â
A strange, quiet feeling settled over you. You couldnât even begin to imagine it. Seeing wars begin and end. Cities rise and fall. Watching humanity evolve and adapt, century after century, while you remained unchanged.
You swallowed. âAre you the only one?â
Jungkook shakes his head, âNo.â
You leaned in a little, your fingers tightening slightly on his arms. âHow many are there?â
âIn the world?â He tilted his head, considering the scope of your question.
âSure.â You shrugged, though that wasnât exactly what you meant.
He exhaled, brows furrowing as he thought. âUhhh, maybe a few thousand? Not an exact number, but there are more than youâd think.â
âHuh. Anyone we know?â You narrow your eyes, already suspecting the answer. Thereâs no way Jungkook is the only one in your friend group.
He hesitates for a moment, then nods. âYes.â
âWho?â You demand, your voice rising slightly.
âJimin⊠and Jin⊠and Hobi.â Jungkook starts, then hesitates again, as if debating whether to continue.
âI knew it!â You leap to your feet, nearly toppling over in your excitement. Jungkook reaches out to steady you, his hands firm on your arms as you wobble on the uneven mattress. âThe first time I met Jin, I was like, âIf thereâs anyone in this world whoâs a vampire, itâs that guy!ââ
Jungkook chuckles, his eyes crinkling at the corners. âI think he told me about that.â
Your enthusiasm falters for a moment. âWait, told you? I donât think I told anyone that.â
âYeah⊠He read your thoughts.â
âWhat!â You exclaim, your voice jumping an octave.
âYeah⊠we can read thoughts.â Jungkook admits, scratching the back of his neck sheepishly.
âOh my god.â You collapse back onto the bed, your hands covering your face. âThis is so embarrassing.â
âWhy?â Jungkook leans over you, his face hovering above yours, a playful smirk tugging at his lips.
You sit up on your elbows, glaring at him. âIâve⊠not exactly had the purest thoughts about you⊠in the presence of our friendsâŠâ Jungkook lets his head drop with a laugh, his shoulders shaking. You groan and push him away with your foot against his chest. âThis is mortifying! If any of them read my thoughts, they know what a freak I am!â
âI donât think they need to read your thoughts to know that.â Jungkook teases, dodging your half-hearted kick.
âJungkook!â You shout, grabbing a pillow from on your bed, throwing it at him.
âWhat!â He laughs, catching the pillow effortlessly. Then let it fall to the floor.Â
âThis is the worst part about all of this!â You wail, flopping back onto the bed. Your melodrama filling the room but it seems to not phase Jungkook whatsoever.
âNo one cares!â He reassures you, sitting down beside you.
âI do!â You insist, covering your face again.
âIf anyone would care, it might be Monique.â Jungkook adds casually, as if he wasnât dropping another bombshell.
âWhat?â You bolt upright again, your eyes wide.
âYeah⊠uhh, that was the other thing. Monique is a vampire too.â
âWhat?â
âOh and your friend Rehna⊠also a vampire. Young but sheâs one too.âÂ
âI think this may literally be too much information.â You mutter, staring aimlessly up at your ceiling. Your voice quieter now. âSo has everyone just been laughing at me for not knowing?âÂ
âNot at all.â Jungkook says quickly, his tone soft. He lays down next to you and reaches an arm over you, pulling you into him. âThey all love you. Itâs just in our nature to hide what we are. It doesnât always go well when humans find out.â
âAm I going to get in trouble for knowing?â You ask, turning your head to face him. A sudden worry creeping into your voice.
âWhat do you mean?â Jungkook frowns.
âWell, okay, not to reference movie vampires, but typically there are rules for telling humans. You either have to turn me, or kill me, or something. I donât know.â
Jungkook blinked. Then, to your surprise, he laughedâa soft, rich sound that made the knot in your chest loosen just a little. He shook his head, âNo. There are no rules or laws for what we do or who we tell. We have traditions, but no laws.â
âOkay, so Iâm not going to get hunted down by, like, a vampire government now?â you ask, only half-joking.
âNo. Maybe by other vampires, but thatâs for food. You probably stink like me anyways, so no one will touch you.â Jungkook said it so casual as if he didnât need to explain what that meant.
âI stink?â You pushed yourself up onto your elbows, glaring at him.
âItâs more like a scent.â Jungkook explains, his voice softening. âVampires have their own, and humans have their own.â
âDo I smell bad?â You ask, suddenly self-conscious.
âNot at all.â Jungkook says, his voice dropping to a low. âTo me, you smell amazing.â He wiggles his eyebrows up and down and you shove his shoulder away from you in annoyance.
âIs that because Iâm food? Technically?â You ask, raising an eyebrow.
âYes and no.â He admits. Rolling back your direction. âIâm in love with you, so I always want to be around you and near you. You also have the same blood type I did when I was human, so that draws me to you.â
âWell, at least I donât smell bad.â You mutter, crossing your arms.
âWell, Hobi thinks you smell bad.â Jungkook adds with a grin. âYou have his least favorite blood type.â
âOh, well, thatâs just great.â You reply dryly.
âItâs not a bad thing.â Jungkook reassures you. âIt just means heâs less likely to snack on you.â
âOkay, wait.â You say, holding up a hand. âSo you can smell blood, read minds, and have super strength and speed. Do you guys have other powers?â
âThatâs where the differences start to come in.â Jungkook explains. âEvery vampire has different skills beyond those. Some develop early, some with age and time, and some with practice.â
âWhatâs yours?â You ask, intrigued. He had to have something and you knew it had to be good.
âMine is⊠sort of similar to a siren.â He says, his voice taking on a mysterious edge.
âAre sirens real too?â You press, leaning a bit too close, âNot the point, continue.âÂ
âI have to sing for it to work.â Jungkook hesitates for a moment but then explains. âIt sort of casts a spell on the person Iâm targeting. Itâs mostly for luring in easy prey, but I can use it for other reasons tooâalter memories, issue commands, or access knowledge about the person and their body. The person never remembers theyâve been affected by it afterward.â
You pause, a thought occurring to you. âHave you ever used it on me?â
Jungkook nods, his expression turning serious and he chewed on his lips for a moment.. â...Just once. It was on that trip we took months ago. I had to bring food for myself, and it was more than usual. More than would be easy to hide or explain. So I⊠used it to alter your memory of the food. Instead of blood bags, you remember regular food.â
You paused realizing the weight of what he was just telling you. Although a small occurrence, he had to alter a part of your memories. You think back on it and try to see if maybe you did remember anything different, the only other thing you really remember from that trip is Jungkook getting extreme food poisoning.Â
âI wasnât ready to tell you yet.â Jungkook continues, his voice tinged with guilt. âI wanted to stay⊠us a little longer because I was so afraid of how it would change things. I got so sick the night I did it because I felt so guilty. I promised when we started dating I would never use any of my powers on youâŠâ
âHow come?â You ask softly.
âBecause⊠I knew whatever this was, it was⊠I donât know. What we have is good⊠and is like one of the only good things Iâve found in a long time.â He says, his eyes locking onto yours. âI wanted it all to be realâno powers, no manipulation. Just me⊠and just you. No tricks.â
You both sit in silence looking at each other, before you completely breeze by his small moment of vulnerability. âYou said you had food poisoning.â You recall, your voice barely above a whisper.
âIt felt like it at the time.â Jungkook nods, thinking back on it. He really did get sick to his stomach. The guilt ade bringing all that blood almost a complete waste. âI felt so guilty because I never want to hide things from you. Ever.â
âIâm sorry you had to do that.â You say, reaching out to take his hand.
âNo, you donât need to apologize.â He squeezes your hand gently. âI just wish Iâd told you sooner. If Iâd known it would go this well, I probably would have told you in the first month.â
âI might have been scared in the first month.â You admit with a small laugh. âMight have run away out of self preservation.âÂ
âThatâs why I waited.â He says, smiling softly. âBut then I kept waiting and waiting for the right moment and I got more anxious.â
âWell⊠now I know.â You say, laying on your side next to him again. Your faces so close together,Â
âNow you know.â He echoes, wrapping an arm around you.
âHow do you eat? What do you eat? Human? Animal?â You ask after a moment, your curiosity resurfacing.
âHuman blood and animal blood. Animal blood more often.â He explains. âLots of vampires work at blood banks.â
âWow, shocker.â you say dryly. âVampires working with blood? Insane.â
âI know, news of the millennia.â Jungkook replies, his tone dripping with sarcasm as you both burst into laughter.
Since then, youâd learned practically everything there was to know about vampiresâthe myths, the truths, the strange little quirks no one ever talked about. The things that were never written in books, never whispered in horror stories. Jungkook had been an open book from the moment he told you. Just the truth, plain and simple, dropped into conversation like he was telling you his favorite color.
At first, it had been surreal. The idea that vampires werenât just creatures of fiction but real, living. Well, undead, beings who walked among humans undetected. That the man you had been falling in love with had walked through centuries, watched history unfold firsthand. It made your head spin. But never scary. Jungkook was still Jungkook. He still left wet towels on the bathroom floor. He still made the worldâs worst coffee. He still held your hand in crowded places and kissed your forehead when you were too tired to function.
The only big difference in your relationship was that you couldnât really eat together. For obvious reasons.Â
Also the sun thing, not a huge problem like people think. They can be in the sun but if they donât eat the same day they will die. They can be out longer the older they get. They donât immediately disengage though.
You had barely scratched the surface even after all this time.Â
After too long in the cold, the two of you finally reached your apartment. The moment you stepped onto your floor, you spotted something taped to the front door. Your name and Jungkookâs were written in elegant, swirling calligraphy, the gold ink shimmering under the hallway light.
âAlready that time of year.â You plucked the envelope from the door, holding it up as Jungkook unlocked it.
He barely glanced at it before sighing. âWe should ditch.â
You snorted. âOh, Iâm sure thatâll go over great. Centuries of tradition thrown out the window.â
âWe could start our own tradition.â He offered, wiggling his eyebrows as he pushed the door open.
You shook your head, already slipping inside. âAnd when Jimin hunts us down and drags us there himself, then what?â
Jungkook grumbled something under his breath that sounded suspiciously like, We run faster. More like heâll run faster.
You ignored him, already peeling the envelope open. The paper was thick and luxuriousâthe kind that felt expensiveâand it smelled faintly of pine, because of course Jimin thought of every last detail. The invitation itself was beautiful, decorated with intricate gold and green accents, the lettering impossibly flawless. Jimin never just sent invitations. He crafted them, turning them into little works of art.
You shrugged off your jacket, letting the day slip away with it, andâwithout needing to askâJungkook took it from you, hanging it neatly in the small coat closet by the door.
âIâve attended just about every single one of these things.â He groaned, toeing off his shoes and trailing behind you. âI think he can live without us for one year.â
By every single one, he meant a few hundred.
âOh, come on.â You teased, skimming the details. âItâs the only time we get to really dress up. I like you in a suit.â
Jungkook raised an eyebrow. âThatâs your main selling point?â
âDuh.â You smirk, it also gives you an excuse to wear something nice which is rare these days. âBecause then I get to take it off after. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me.âÂ
Jungkook sighed, scrubbing a hand down his face. âFine. But if Jimin ropes me into another game of charades, Iâm taking you down with me.â
âDeal.â
You both round your way to the kitchen. Your place together was very nice, mostly funded by Jungkook. You had two bedrooms that stretched up a hallway, one for the two of you and one for a small office the two of you curated. A large and beautiful kitchen that is really only used by you. In a high building with beautiful views.Â
You pull out a stool at the island. Jungkook pulling out a few bags of blood. They were donation bags like you would see at a blood drive. Which means he had elected to have human blood tonight vs animal. Jungkook didnât really mind eating in front of you anymore. The first few weeks you two lived together you couldnât stomach it, but now it was normal.Â
Youâd asked him before what it was like. Vampires could still eat real food but it doesnât fill them up or provide the same benefits it does for humans. They need blood or they wonât survive. Itâs food, like anything you eat. They have cravings for it and some taste better than others. Sometimes they needed it more often and sometimes they could go without it. Jungkook had recently been trying to go longer and longer without it but it had been proving difficult. He could usually feed once a week and be okay, but heâs been trying to push for two weeks.Â
Who would have thought that having a human partner would make that difficult?Â
Jungkook opened one of the pouches and he just sucked on the dispensing tube like it was a fruit pouch of some kind. The way he reacted made him act like it was delicious, you were always curious but knew it would not have the same effect for you. Would probably be gross or your body would naturally make you throw it up. Still, your curiosity always lingered.Â
Jungkook noticed you staring at him out of the corner of his vision as he was looking at his phone and eating his meal. âYouâre next, be patient.â He teased.Â
âThatâs not!⊠thatâs not why I was staring at you. Canât I just look at my boyfriend?â You cross your arms, putting up your fake defenses.Â
âAlways. You just look like you want to ask me something.â He turns his focus to you, still drink from the pouch.Â
You pause for a moment, âWhat was it like the first timeâŠ?âÂ
âEating?âÂ
âYeah, I donât think Iâve ever asked.â You lean on your elbows on the counter.Â
Itâs been quite some time but Jungkook does remember it. âIt was warm⊠but sweet. Like candy but if the sugar high hit instantly. It was like I was taking my first breath.âÂ
âWas it weird?âÂ
âNo⊠Strangely. It felt completely normal. Weird as it sounds. It was like my mind had completely rewired itself away from regular food. Blood was all I needed.â Jungkook shrugged, it really was night and day. One day he wanted human food and the next he couldnât care less about it.Â
âYou werenât afraid of it?âÂ
Jungkook nodded, âOf course⊠but unfortunately because of our nature you have to move past it quickly⊠You had to kill to eat. We didnât have the convenience of having blood banks so we didnât have to kill.âÂ
âI didnât think about that⊠no preservation.âÂ
Jungkook eyed you for a moment. âWhat? Thinking about trying it?â He waved the pouch in your direction, the blood sloshing around in the bag making your stomach turn.
âWell most of the time you make it look good, so my mind wanders. I know itâll be shit for me.â You rest your chin on one of your palms. Jungkook finished off one of the pouches. Teeth stained red and his pupils were no longer dilated like before. Which was the usual once his hunger had been satisfied.
Jungkook smiles, swiping his bottom lip to catch a drop of blood. He starts on the second one, drinking this one much faster than the first. You can tell he doesnât like it very much from the face he makes. He rounds his way around the counter, to you. Behind you, resting his head on your shoulder as he drank. One of his arms snaking around you. Your back pressed into his chest.Â
Although the packs were cold, Jungkookâs body heats up just a little bit when eating. Making him almost feel human.Â
âBad?â You ask as he sets down the second pack on the counter. His tongue poked out his cheeks as he wiped his teeth clean of the bitter taste.Â
âJust bitter. Not great.â Jungkookâs sighs wrapping his other arm around you now. His nose is buried into your neck now.Â
âYou know where I know there will be really good blood?â You muse and Jungkook just rolls his eyes. âJiminâs party.âÂ
âIâd still rather spend my time with you.â He places a kiss right on your jaw where your neck meets. âAlone.âÂ
âHmm maybe next time.â You rest the side of your head against his. You both rocked from side to side slightly. âPlus you get to have me all the time.âÂ
âI know I know.â He places another kiss further down your neck. His grip is tightening around you.Â
Jungkook was barely listening though, your steady heartbeat was pounding in his ear. Yes he had quenched his thirst quite a bit but he still needed yours. The fact that you had his same blood type made it incredibly difficult to resist on days when he was especially hungry because your blood is all he would want. If only he could feed off of you whenever he wanted and it wouldn't kill you quickly. Still, he could hear the pulsing vein in your neck calling out for him. He was usually pretty good about blocking out this kind of thing around you but tonight was especially difficult. Â
âJust do it.â You whisper, you can feel him getting anxious and a little twitchy. You knew he wanted to eat. âGo ahead.âÂ
Jungkook shakes his head, âNot yet.âÂ
âJungkook, you and I both know you havenât eaten enough.â You pull out of his grip and twist around in your seat to look at him. âFree meal might as well be written on my forehead.âÂ
âBetter not be. Iâm the only one allowed to eat from you.â He smiled, both of his hands running up and down your thighs now.Â
Before you could get a word in, his lips were on yours. One of his hands coming up to cup your jaw. The kiss has a certain intensity to it and you match Jungkookâs energy in kind. His tongue sliding into your mouth and your taste buds being met with a iron like flavor. A little off putting at first but you push past it. It wasnât the first time you had tasted the aftermath of a feeding before.Â
When you were first dating Jungkook would wash his mouth out pretty good before he would see you so that it wouldnât happen. Not exactly easy to explain why he tastes like his mouth was bleeding when making out.Â
Your hands found their way to the bottom of his shirt and your hands glided up his abdomen. Warm hands meeting cold skin. Your legs widen to let him stand between them. You were leaning back against the counter, the corner digging into your back some but you didnât mind. Jungkookâs hand on your jaw moves itâs way to the back of your neck and into your hair. He gives it a light tug which elicits a small sound from you. A small whine which is exactly what he wantedÂ
You break away from him for a second, breathless. âJungkook⊠You have to eat.â
Jungkook kisses you again, a little sloppier this time. Before pulling back, âNot yet my love.â He mumbles against your skin kissing his way down your throat, his other hand tracing the inside of your thigh.
You sigh in content leaning into him, âY-You get a little intense when youâre like this though.â
 Jungkook pulls back away from you, kissing you again. Soft and sweet. Before breaking away. âIâm alright. I just missed you so I want to have my way with you now.âÂ
âOh is that right?â You tilt your head to the side, a playful smile tugging at the corner of your lips, âYou know you see me everyday?âÂ
âItâs not enough.â Jungkook whispers, and kisses you again.Â
You bring your hands up to either side of his cheeks and drink him in. âYouâre cheesy.â You mumble against his lips.Â
Jungkook brings both of his hands down and tucks them underneath you to lift you from the stool. The sudden motion makes you yelp. âYou love it.âÂ
âYeah, I guess.â You say nonchalantly like you were trying to play it off. Jungkook just rolls his eyes, keeping a tight grip on you.Â
Before you could think, your body was pressed into Jungkook's. As the kitchen and hall blurred past your vision as if you were in a car. Jungkook ran the both of you into your bedroom. Your hair instantaneously a mess around your face.
âJungkook!â You whined, he let you fall from his grip onto the bed. You immediately smoothed your hair away from your face. âI hate when you do that.âÂ
Jungkook is standing at the end of your bed, pulling his shirt over the top of his head. âI have a few ways I can make it up to you.âÂ
âI hope so.â You bite down on your bottom lip but a huge smile still on your face. Jungkook couldnât help but find you absolutely intoxicating.Â
Jungkook kneels in front of the bed, âGod youâre beautiful.â
His hands climbed their way up your thighs and under your shirt to help lift it over your head in a swift motion. Discarding it to the floor. Your hands come down to unbutton your pants and Jungook slides them off of your legs. Jungkook with ease, pulling your hips to the end of the bed. Although to Jungkook it felt like nothing. Anytime he moved you you could tell the strength he held. It was clear that he was intentionally holding back.Â
Jungkookâs face came down between your legs, kissing his way up your left thigh. You watch him for a moment, you could see his eyes dilate for a second and a hint of his fangs grow from his mouth. In that instant one of his fangs punctured the skin of your thigh.Â
You gasp in surprise. A little blood escaped before Jungkook licks over the wound, closing it again. Jungkook's eyes closed and his breath raged. Your blood is like ecstasy on his tongue.
âHoney, a little warning next time.â You pout.
âSorry baby.â He looks up to you with this puppy dog expression. âI just needed a taste.âÂ
âOkay, it just hurts. Easier on the neck. Iâm used to it.â You bring your hand down to rub his cheek. He turns his face to kiss your palm.Â
âSo youâre saying I need to bite you more places more often.â He smirks and you just hum.Â
âSounds good to me.â You giggle and Jungkook's face softens. A look more of adoration.
âWhatever you want, pretty.â His head dips back down between your legs. You lay back on the bed. Jungkook hooking your underwear in between his teeth and pulling it down your legs.
He presses a feather light kiss to your clit before kissing all the way up your stomach, then chest, and then kissing you on the mouth. Sliding his tongue into your mouth with ease. Jungkook's fingers were wasting no time before he was rubbing your clit with one of his hands. Slow and tantalizing circles. You bit down on Jungkookâs lip pulling it back before letting him fall back into place.Â
âIâm supposed to do that.â Jungkook fake whined, his fingers tracing the outside of your entrance which was dripping. Waiting for him to touch you.Â
âWhoops.â You bring your arm to rest above your head. âInstructions unclear.âÂ
He kisses you again, before pulling away to kiss and then suck on your neck. Not feeding, just sucking to give you a regular old hickey. Taking two of his fingers to and sliding them deep into your dripping pussy. Reaching and curling his fingers to touch that spongy spot inside you that can easily make you cum.Â
âFuck just like that.â You moan, your eyes screwing shut. Your knees coming up in reaction to the pleasure. Jungkook moved to a different spot on your neck and left another barely visible mark. He had seen you cum and had you exactly like this hundreds of times now but he still could not get enough. He pulled away from you to look down at you again.
But sex was always a little complicated. Your blood moving and your heart pounding is almost deafening. Especially today he was still hungry and his mind still reeled with needing your blood. Spinning as he could hear the blood in your body pumping quickly with every quickened breath you took because of every touch he gave you. He hadnât even realised, his fangs had reappeared in his mouth. He was beginning to drool.Â
You open your eyes again and you see it. He was dazed, eyes completely dilated again. âJungkook.â You say, tracing in line down his face. âCome back here.âÂ
Jungkook closed his eyes, shaking his head. His fangs returned back in his mouth. Eyes returning to normal. âSorry baby.âÂ
He pulls his fingers out and begins to rub your clit from side to side. You were getting close quickly, but you needed a little more.Â
âYou didnât eat enough.â You raise an eyebrow to him.Â
âI thought I did.â He rests his forehead against your, your breathing mingling with your lips so close together. âNot enough I guess.âÂ
You give him a quick peck on the lips before pulling back slightly. âJust a little longer honey.â You moan. You both knew if he drank from you now, the night ends here because you will be too dizzy and too tired to continue.Â
âIâm fine, my love. You just focus on cumming on my fingers just how I like.â Jungkook leans up and away from you, connecting his mouth with one of your nipples. Licking around the bud, sucking and slowly pushing you closer to the edge.Â
âJungkook.â You moan, and Jungkook dips his fingers back between your legs. Pumping them in and out of you relentlessly. Wanting to get you over the edge, and blocking anything else out.Â
Jungkook pulls his mouth away from you. His teeth chatter from hunger instinctually and he has to shake his head back to a normal state. He was so hard inside of his pants he could have cum just like this. âOh youâre doing so good.âÂ
âGod I need you to fuck me.â You whine, grinding your hips into Jungkookâs hand. He follows along with your rhythm, and continues to fuck you with his fingers. It really was not enough for you.
âOh yeah? How bad?âÂ
âIâm serious please fuck me Jungkook.â You bring your hands up under his shoulders and around his back, digging your nails into him.Â
âFuck.â He exhaled, âI really want to make you cum like this though.âÂ
âPlease baby, I need it. Please please please.â Between each please you kiss him. Jungkook chasing after your mouth after every kiss. Both of your hearts pounding in his ears, dancing together as one.Â
âYes⊠Yes, whatever you want.â Jungkook, with some hesitation retreats from you. His hand pulls out of you and you let out a small moan but know itâll be replaced soon. Jungkook stands and begins to discard his pants and then his boxers with little time.
You stand up and kiss him again, before spinning the both of you around and sitting him on the bed. He was fully erected and you honestly needed to fuck him badly. You wanted him to fill up every inch of you. Your eagerness surprises him a little as you rest your hands on each of his shoulders. Adjusting your hips on either side of his.Â
Jungkook just watches you eyes wide. His red eyes were dilated almost to black. You waste no time lining up your entrance with his tip, sinking down onto it slowly. Letting him slowly fill you up. Jungkook takes in a sharp breath leaning back on his hands while you sink down onto him. The two of you had no need for protection, from what it sounded like from many accounts. Jungkook couldnât get you pregnant no matter how hard you tried.
Jungkook's eyes close tight, and his grip on the blanket next to him was evident. One of his hands comes to grip on your hip forcing you to bottom out on him. His grip was too tight, âEase up.â You place your hand on top of his like you need to pull him back to earth.Â
âSorry.â He moans, his head falling to the side. His dick tucked perfectly inside you and his head twitching slightly almost driving you insane. âGod you feel so good, fuck.â
You hum, and lift your hips on top of him. A moan falling past your lips, âOh yes.âÂ
You create a slow rhythm between the two of you. Your hips rising slowly up and down on his cock. His dick rubbing up against that same spot inside you and your high building all over again. Jungkook is now able to get some relief. He was still having a hard time though. He was still just focussing on your neck.Â
You could see it all over his face, his fangs were slowly peeking out again. His mouth was slack and eyes all fucked out. He was hungry and you were mostly just teasing him at this point. A small punishment for not eating enough.Â
âOh are you hungry?â You lift yourself up and sit yourself back down onto him again.Â
Jungkook letâs out a gasp as he nods, âYes.âÂ
âHmm,â You sit up, Jungkook's dick dragging inside you tantalizing. âYou lied to me. Said you were fine, but look at you.âÂ
âIâm sorry baby. I⊠I just⊠please.â He begs, a cross between desire and ferality written on his face. You sit your hips back down onto him, a moan falling from the both of you. You needed to toe this line carefully, but it was always a little fun when you got too.Â
You loved seeing Jungkook getting so desperate for you, in more ways than one. He did it to you all the time and so you reveled in the time you got to do it to him.Â
You continue to tease, you tone playful, âI donât think you deserve my blood now.â
âOh god please no.â Jungkookâs hands come up to either side of your face, desperation in his voice. Trying to pull you closer but enough slack given so you can hold yourself away. âBeautiful thatâs not funny, donât play with me right now.âÂ
âNo. You said you were fine and youâre about to lose it.. All over my blood.â You lift your hips up and sit back down onto him again. âShame.âÂ
âPlease let me drink from you. Please just a little bit.â Jungkook's voice became slightly hoarse and he was fidgeting under you in desperation. Making his dick move inside and you had to do your best to not just cum all over him right now.
You place your hands on top of his that are rested on either side of your face. Pulling them away. âAsk nicely.âÂ
âPlease. Oh my love please let me taste you.â He conceded, he was totally out of it. You had gotten what you wanted and it was so hot.Â
His eyes sparkling under the light that only creeps in through the window of your room. You donât move anymore. You kiss both of his hands before letting them go. You tilt your head to the left side to present your neck. Jungkook, although starving, takes gentle care of you. One hand coming back to hold your opposite cheek, the other around your back. Keeping you in place. You close your eyes waiting for him to make his move.Â
Jungkookâs fangs were fully exposed, his senses were completely filled with you. He licks a line over the spot where he is going to puncture before he sinks both of his teeth into your neck. Straight into the vein. The pain is cold and needle-like before it is gone but the side of your face and neck feels completely numb. Then Jungkook starts to drink, you can feel your heart begin to quicken. As the blood seeps out from you through the new holes in your neck. Jungkook drinks slowly to make sure he can tell how much he is taking.Â
You remember the first time it happened, it hurt a lot. You felt like you could feel life draining out of you. Now it no longer hurts and has become more of an intimate act for the two of you. Jungkook was always endlessly careful about how much he took. Never more than a blood bag's worth. It was difficult because of how good you tasted, you werenât only the love of his life but the best meal he had in his time of being a vampire.Â
Jungkookâs grip on your head was tight so you couldn't easily slip away, but after a moment, Jungkook loosened his grip and you could tell he was done. You had kept your eyes closed. Usually you got pretty dizzy during this so you always closed your eyes. Jungkook with some force pulled himself away from you. His face came into view. His mouth was covered in your blood and it was dripping down his chin, teeth also stained red once again. His fangs detract back into his mouth. He was out of breath.Â
Your eyes were tired, as you leaned forward on his shoulder. âFuck me. That never gets old.â Jungkook sigh. Jungkook leans back in to lick over the spot to close the wounds. A stray drop of blood had made its way down your neck and collarbone. Jungkook wasted no time in licking itâs trail back up your neck. Cleaning it away for you.Â
You kiss his forehead because it didnât really do it for you to taste your own blood. âIt canât be that good.âÂ
âOh trust me, it is.â Jungkook shifts his hips under you, his dick nudges slightly inside you. You gasp and Jungkook is finally actually able to enjoy your pleasure instead of hearing your blood pound in your ears.Â
You lift our hips up and down on top of him again, his cock bottoming out inside your again and you both moan. Before you can continue though, Jungkook lifts you off of him and flips the two of you back over so youâre on your back. He does this to your surprise.Â
âNow I can fuck you like I want.â Jungkook leans away from you and strokes his cock a few times before pressing it to your entrance. Swirling it around. You widen you legs so that he can have better access, you needed him to fuck you bad. Before you got to tired to do so.Â
Jungkook guides his dick inside of you again.Â
âYes!â You groan, wrapping your arms around his neck, as Jungkook picks up his speed and he rocks his hips into your. The slapping of your skin echoing in the room.Â
âThatâs right baby. Cream my cock.â Jungkook groans as he continues to rock into you. The dizziness was hitting you but you didnât care, you could feel your climax coming.Â
âFuck Iâm so close Jungkook.â You groan, grinding your hips into his each time he makes contact with yours. Jungkook was kissing all around your neck, encouraging your high. He wanted you to cum so bad, getting to eat from you and then make you cum. He couldnât think of anything better.Â
Jungkook's body had become warm again, eating straight from you had that effect. You loved it when it happened, made you wonder if he was this warm when he was human too.Â
âCum for me baby, please please cum all over me.â Jungkook begged into your ear. Jungkook thrusted a few more times, his tip dragging against your g spot and you were cumming undone. Walls squeezing his cock as your cum began to cover him.Â
Your walls squeezing around him as he fucked himself into you. âOh fuck yes. God you feel so good.âÂ
With a few more pumps Jungkook was coming undone and cumming inside you. His cum filling up your cunt as he continued to fuck into you. Your cum and his mixing together. Jungkook thrust a few more times before coming to a stop. He slid himself out of you and his cum spilling out of your throbbing pussy. He wanted to kiss you but he had your dried blood all around his mouth.Â
You were pretty dizzy, having an orgasm in the midst of losing a pint of blood wasnât a super easy combination. Jungkook slid into your bathroom, closing the door so he could flick the light on. You covered your face with with your arms anyways, not sure if you would really be able to sit up without difficulty. After a moment Jungkook returned, he had gotten a new pair of boxers and his face was all cleaned up now. With a blink of the eye he had zipped out of the room and then zipped back in, you could feel the air shift with the speed he was going.Â
He removed one of your arms from your face. A smile on his face as you open your eyes to look at him.Â
âCome on letâs get you cleaned up.â He kissed you, his skin was cold again. Taking one of your hands and helping you sit up. What you hadnât noticed is he brought back with him some juice, and another towel that was warm to clean you up. What you didnât really notice was how you were also covered in your own dried blood. Jungkook may have taken a bit too much since he was a little sloppy with it.Â
âIâm really dizzy.â Which was mild but was almost headache inducing.Â
Jungkook nods, grabbing the juice he has placed on the ground next to him. âI know. I got you this and you need to drink it.âÂ
He places the cup in your hand. You drink it all down pretty quickly, you probably should have also eaten something when you got home. Would have made this a little easier but whatever. Wasnât your first rodeo but Jungkook worried every single time. He helped you clean up after you are comfortable moving.Â
Your next day at work was alright but you were, in fact, exhausted.Â
You were filing books away, running on two coffees, but you still felt like you were going to need another. You worked as a librarian with one of the largest Libraries in the city that had some of the oldest works, so this was your typical day in and out. You had spent a good part of your morning also restoring old books. Now you were doing some mundane tasks that needed to be finished. Luckily you would be leaving soon and early.
Your friend, Rehna, who was also your colleague, had rounded her way around the corner in your aisle to find you. She had roped you into an afternoon of shopping to find a new outfit for Jiminâs party. It was only two days away, the invite was fresh but Jimin had confirmed with you months ago that you and Jungkook would be in attendance. Much to Jungkookâs complaints.Â
Rehna is also a vampire.
She was the youngest of the group. She was only turned 8 years ago. Sheâs technically 30 but she was 23 when she turned. Sheâs told you her story before, she was turned on accident. She was attacked by a vampire, she ended up biting him back and she swallowed enough blood to make her turn. Apparently it didnât take much. You actually met her before you met any of the others. She was a vampire then but she was running around on her own. She only knew of Jungkook and the others through Jiminâs parties but never hung out with them until you and Jungkook started seeing each other.Â
âPlease tell me youâre almost done. Iâm bored and Iâm ready to find something perfect.â
âI would have thought you found something already.â You say, the theme was Bejeweled. Which was incredibly vague but you think you had the idea. âHonestly anything shimmery or shiny will probably work.âÂ
âYeah but you know these parties are basically red carpet events.âÂ
âYou just want to win the outfit contest this year.â She had entered and had yet to win the competition for the last few years you were in attendance.Â
Her smirk turned wicked. "Damn right I do. This is my year." She lifted a finger in a dramatic flourish. "Now hurry up."
Before you could argue, the stack of books you were holding suddenly lifted out of your arms and flew onto the shelves, slotting themselves into place with eerie precision.
"Rehna." You groaned.
She grinned, brushing imaginary dust off her hands. "Oh, look at that, youâre done! Time to go!"
"Damn vampire powers." You muttered, crossing your arms.
You were annoyingly jealous that she could move things with her mind. Would make your life much easier as it certainly makes hers. She usually wouldnât use it so openly but she really wanted to get out of here.
âI have a feeling you wonât have to complain about them for too much longer.â Rehna jokes but realizes her mouth was getting ahead of her mind.Â
âWhat?â You say, luckily you were a bit distracted and didnât hear what she said.Â
You blinked, but before you could question her, she quickly threw an arm around your shoulders, steering you toward the employee room. "So, howâs Jungkook? Still annoying?"
You roll your eyes, âJungkook is fine.âÂ
âHe doesnât come around here as much as he used too.â She sighs. She was actually glad.Â
âHeâs been busy lately, thereâs always some new business with Jin these days. Today Jimin has roped him into something for the party.â You both enter the employee room and you both begin to gather your things.Â
âOh how exciting. To be honest Iâm fine with him not coming around. He always leaves his stink all around here.â She shivers at the thought, Jungkook and Rehna werenât enemies by any means. If anything they were basically like siblings at this point but if he was the annoying brother she only cared to see at family gatherings.Â
âHe canât smell that bad.â You throw your bag over your shoulder.Â
âBelieve me. He does.â She groans, it was a vampire thing. From how Jimin has described it to you itâs not very strong, itâs just subtle but some vampires donât like others smell. Rehna really did not care for Jungkookâs scent.
âAnyways, Iâm assuming Jimin will have him roped into party prep all day. Makes it easy since itâs just at Jinâs manor and not like in a cave on the side of a mountain or something.â You explain, which is exactly what he had done last year.Â
âUgh but the best parties are always the ones he throws in some random obscure place.â She pouted.Â
âI almost lost my toes because of the cold, and none of you produced any body heat so you were no help.â You moan, thinking about it. Most of the night was very fun but by the end of it you felt like your feet were going to fall off because the cold hurt them so badly. Evidently when vampires hold a party inside a mountain in the middle of winter, cold doesnât factor into their plans.
As you grabbed your bag, you couldnât shake the feeling that there was something she wasnât telling you. But with Rehna, that wasnât unusual.
And honestly? You were too tired to press her on it.
âWell itâll still be grand no matter where itâs at. Jimin will make sure of that.â Â
Because this partyâthis eventâwas the biggest night of the year.
The venue changed every year, always extravagant, always hidden in plain sight. An old mansion, a repurposed cathedral, a secret ballroom tucked beneath the city. Chandeliers dripped with candlelight, casting golden glows against dark velvet walls. Music floated through the air; classical waltzes and modern remixes alike, played by musicians who had honed their craft for centuries. The scent of aged wine and fresh blood filled every corner, mingling with the faint traces of perfume and cologne.
But the real attraction, the thing that drew vampires from all over, was the blood.
It was a feast unlike any other.
Vampires brought their finest. Aged blood, stored in crystal decanters like fine whiskey. Fresh blood, bottled and sealed, each one labeled with its origin. Rare types, unique flavors, collected over years. Some brought exotic blends, infused with herbs and spices, creating something akin to mulled wine but richer, more intoxicating.
And it wasnât just about drinking. It was about history. Vampires exchanged stories, sharing memories of the humans they once knew, the lives they once lived. They brought gifts, rare artifacts, and trinkets from centuries past. Some fought for sport, showcasing inhuman strength with friendly duels that blurred the line between violence and performance art. Others danced, moving with a grace that defied physics, their bodies fluid and weightless.
It was decadent. It was breathtaking.
And you got to witness all of it.
Humanâs being in attendance wasnât unusual. The situation that you and Jungkook had was not unusual. There were other vampires that had human partners and they would bring them along as well. Not all of them stayed human, the first year you went just about every human there you had met was either turned or had broken up with their vampire counterpart by the time the next party rolled around.
Humanâs who werenât the partners of vampires werenât permitted though, or those who werenât deeply entangled in their world. There is one man who is a sixth generation banker who is invited to these parties because he is in charge of the finances of a handful of wealthy vampires. His name is Larry. Nice guy.
Your continuation in being a human, although you and Jungkook had seemed to be attached by the hip, had brewed a curiosity in everyone. Although it wasnât frowned upon or strange, it did feel like it to everyone else. Especially amongst Jungkookâs own coven.Â
âJungkook, to the left! How many times do I have to repeat myself?!â
Jiminâs voice rang through the grand ballroom, exasperation thick in his tone. The cavernous space was in chaosâdrapes of deep sapphire, shimmering crystal fixtures, and layers upon layers of bejeweled decorations yet to be placed. At the center of it all, precariously balanced on a tall ladder, was Jungkook, attempting to hang a string of decorative jewels exactly where Jimin wanted.
Or, at least, close enough.
âI canât go any more left!â Jungkook snapped, gripping the ladder with one hand and holding the jewels with the other. âIf you want it so precise, why donât you climb up here and do it yourself?â
âIâm busy!â Jimin shot back, crossing his arms as if he were personally burdened by the weight of this entire production. âI have a million things to oversee, and youâre up there messing around!â
Jungkook let out an aggravated sigh and simply hung the jewels where he stood, ignoring Jiminâs frantic gesturing.
Jimin flailed. âThat is not where I told you toââ
âToo bad! Iâm getting down.â Jungkook climbed down the ladder, dropping to the floor with ease. âIf you care that much, do it yourself.â
Jimin threw his arms in the air. âI swearââ
âIf you two are going to fight, at least take it to the living room.â Jinâs voice interrupted, smooth and composed as ever. He strolled into the ballroom with a book in one hand, scribbling notes with the other. âI donât need you breaking another chandelier.â
âHeâs ruining my vision.â Jimin huffed. Jungkook leaning against the ladder, annoyance all over his face.
Jin barely looked up. âIsnât there an actual decorator running around here somewhere? I thought you hired someone?â
Jimin scoffed. âI did⊠But Jungkookâs here, so why not make him useful?â
Jin chuckled, thoroughly entertained, while Jungkook remained unimpressed. He had come here to talk to Jin about something else entirely, yet somehow, he had been roped into helping Jimin with decorations. The entire house was alive with movementâhired help rushing around, carefully placing extravagant decorations that now stretched through every corridor.
âI wouldâve rather helped with literally anything else.â Jungkook muttered, stepping beside Jimin and bumping his shoulder.
Jimin huffed, shoving him back just slightly. âWell, too bad, because I needed you.â
Jin finally took a good look around the ballroom, his sharp eyes scanning the shimmering spectacle before him. It was hard to surprise Jin, but even he seemed impressed. âDamn, Jimin. Youâve seriously outdone yourself.â
Jungkook had to admitâthe room was stunning. Sparkles in every corner, a perfect blend of opulence and elegance. Everything dripped with wealth, which, knowing Jimin, was always the plan. You were going to eat it up.
âThree hundred-plus of these gatherings, and you still manage to come up with new ideas.â Jungkook teased.
Jimin shot him a smug glance. âIâve only gotten better at it over the years. Trust me, Iâve got plenty more party ideas left in me.â
Jungkook smirked. âGreat. You can plan any party I ever throw.â
Jiminâs eyes lit up. âPromise?â
Jungkook rolled his eyes. âYes. Not that thatâll happen anytime soon.â
Jin, who had been silently observing, suddenly looked intrigued. âOh? That sounded like a hint at something.â
Jungkook frowned slightly, glancing between the two of them. âA hint at what?â
âOh, please.â Jimin rolled his eyes. âWeâre all counting down the days until you and Y/N finally get hitched.â
Getting married to a vampire was a little different. A vampire marrying another vampire was more about declaring a companion. Some vampires do have the traditional ceremony but it wasnât like the celebration that a human marriage was because vampires who wed other vampires is more of a casual affair. âGetting Marriedâ was usually a term for vampires with human partners.Â
Jungkook choked on his own breath, âWe arenât getting married.âÂ
âWhy not, itâs been years. I figured it would have happened after you told her about us. You basically kiss the ground she walks on anyways.â Jimin smirks, trying to poke fun but a tone of seriousness was behind the remark.Â
âYouâve been together for five years now and you havenât asked?â Jin asked, he couldnât help himself. He too was curious when the two of you would be getting married.Â
âWe havenât talked about it.â Jungkook admitted, quietly. Almost looking like a kicked puppy or that he was going to get in trouble.
Jin and Jimin both pause for a moment, Jin raises a brow to Jungkook. âSeriously?â
Jungkook shakes his head. It actually never really came up, Jungkook was actually quite nervous to broach the topic. It was very serious and itâs not that he hadnât thought about it, in fact he did. Just not in the way everyone thinks he would be thinking about it. He was more waiting for you to bring it up.
Jimin suddenly grabbed Jungkook by the ear, dragging him down to his level. âI cannot believe you havenât talked about it. How could you not?â
âOwâJimin!â Jungkook swatted him away, freeing himself from his grip. He rubbed his ear with a glare. âI have thought about it, but itâs not that simple! Weâve talked about, like⊠regular marriage, but not about this.â
Jin tilted his head, his expression unreadable. âWhatâs the big deal? Itâs completely normal. Happens all the time.â
Jungkook clenched his jaw. âBecause I have no idea if thatâs what she even wants.â
Jimin sighed dramatically before smacking Jungkookâs shoulder. âSeems like something you should talk about!â
Jungkook shot him a look, but Jimin just grinned. Ever since you had come into their lives, Jimin had immediately taken to youâhe adored you. And whenever Jungkook did anything that seemed remotely questionable, Jimin was always the first to go to bat for you.
Jungkook exhaled sharply, running a hand through his hair. The weight of their words settled uncomfortably in his chest. This wasnât just a marriage proposal. This was forever. Asking you to marry him wasnât just about rings and vowsâit meant asking you to give up your humanity.Â
To turn. To be like him.
The thought alone sent a storm of memories crashing through Jungkookâs mind, memories laced with pain, fear, and the irreversible consequences of a choice that could never be undone. He had buried them deep, locked them away where they couldnât touch him. But now, under the scrutiny of his closest friends, the weight of it all pressed down on his chest like a boulder.
âThe time isnât right.â He muttered, voice tight.
Jimin stopped mid-step, turned on his heel, and without a second thought, kicked Jungkook square in the ass.
Jungkook stumbled forward, catching himself before he could completely lose balance. His glare shot daggers. âHey!â
Jimin didnât even flinch. âYou deserved that.â
âIâm with him on that one.â Jin chimed in, arms crossed, a smirk tugging at his lips. âRight time? What kind of answer is that? You love her. I donât even need to invade your thoughts to know that.â
A sly grin spread across Jiminâs face. I am invading your thoughts, his voice echoed smugly in Jungkookâs head. âAnd I know thatâs a bullshit answer.â
Jungkook tensed, jaw clenching as he focused for a split second and then shut Jimin out of his mind. The vampire in front of him blinked, looking mildly offended before pouting.
Jungkookâs voice came out flat. âCome on. Is it really that hard to guess why Iâm hesitant?â
Jin and Jimin exchanged glances before answering in unison. âYes.â
Jungkook exhaled sharply, dragging a hand down his face. âUnbelievable.â
The air in the room shifted. He glanced around at the staff still buzzing through the ballroom, adjusting final decorations, moving chairs into perfect alignment. Not here. Not where curious ears might overhear things that didnât concern them.
So instead, he let his thoughts slip past the surface and invaded theirs.
A beat of silence.
Jin and Jimin went still as the realization settled in, Jungkookâs memories bleeding into their awareness like ink spilled across a pristine surface. Their postures changed and Jinâs amusement faded into something serious, Jiminâs cocky demeanor softened.
Jungkook. Jin projected, his mind brushing against his friendâs like a whisper in the dark. Thereâs such a slim chance of that happening.
Jungkookâs gaze dropped to the polished floor beneath him. You canât promise that. You remember how bad it got.
A flicker of something unreadable passed through Jinâs face.
Jimin cut in, his mind pressing against theirs like a sharp rod. That was a special case. This is different.
Jungkook shook his head, tension crawling up his spine. None of us know that. It would be my blood this time. It could have the same effect⊠or worse.
Jimin stepped forward, placing both hands firmly on Jungkookâs shoulders, his touch grounding, his presence warm despite the centuries he had spent as something cold. His voice was softer now, even in Jungkookâs head. Alright⊠I feel bad for giving you a hard time. But, Jungkook, everything is fine now. This could be something beautiful.
Jungkook swallowed thickly, flexing his fingers, trying to shake out the unease tightening in his chest.
Every time he let himself think about turning you, the same anxiety gripped him like a vice.
Jungkook's mind brushed past there's one more time, Or it could all be for nothing.
Jungkook had done everything in his power to shove the topic out of his mind, burying it beneath the routine of everyday life. He convinced himself there was no need to bring it up, not until you did first. It had to be something you wanted, so he saw no need for him to have that conversation until you wanted too.Â
And Jungkookâtrue to his wordânever invaded your thoughts. Never once slipped into your mind the way he so easily did with the others.
But right now? God, how he wished he could.
Because as he sat on the edge of the tub, watching you flit between the closet and bathroom, he had no idea what you thought about any of it.
It was New Yearâs Eve.
The scent of your perfume lingered in the air, mixing with the faint traces of soap and fabric softener from your clothes. You were wearing nothing fancy yet, just sweatpants and an oversized t-shirt. Your hair half-done, your makeup barely started because you kept getting distracted. One minute you were digging through your jewelry, the next you were redoing your eyebrows, and now you were standing in front of the mirror, testing two different pairs of earrings.
Jungkook hadnât even started putting himself together. He sat there, in slacks and a button-up with the top few buttons left open. But he wasnât thinking about the party.
He was thinking about you.
And apparently, he was staring too hard because you turned toward him, arching a brow.
âWhatâs going on inside there?â You took a step closer and poked his forehead, snapping him from his daze.
Jungkook blinked, tilting his head up at you with an easy smile. âIâm thinking about you.â
Your face lit up, playful and teasing. âOh yeah? What about me?â Turning back to the mirror to continue what you were doing.
Jungkook leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees as he watched you through the mirror. âHow much I love you.â
Your expression twisted into disgust. âGross.â
Jungkook snorted, shaking his head as he stood up and closed the space between you. âYouâre gross.â
Before you could retort, he draped himself over you, resting his chin on your shoulder. Watching as you meticulously filled in your brows. You let out a small huff of concentration, your bottom lip caught between your teeth as you tried to finally get them right.
Jungkookâs hands found your waist, wrapping around you with ease, pulling you flush against him.
âJungkook.â You warned as you reached for your mascara. Unable to reach it as Jungkook pulls you a step back. You hand pathetically waving in the air for it. He started to sway you side to side, his grip tightening just enough to throw you off balance. âJungkook.â
âWe can be a little late.â He murmured against your neck, pressing a slow kiss to the spot where your shoulder met your neck.
You exhaled sharply. âNo, no, no. You do this every time.â Laughing, you pried his arms off of you and spun around, poking him in the chest. âI donât want to miss anything! I like these parties, you know.â
Jungkook just grinned, all mischievous and smug, before leaning down and stealing a quick kiss from your lips. âYou always fall for it, though.â
You turned back to the mirror, rolling your eyes as you reached for your brush. âYeah, like a sucker! Not this time.â
Jungkook stepped in close again, this time pressing a kiss to the top of your head. His hands landed on your shoulders, thumbs rubbing slow circles as he watched you apply your mascara with careful precision.
âYouâre just so cute.â He hummed, his voice a soft murmur against your ear. âI canât help it.â
âHow about you finish getting ready or something?â You quipped, flicking your gaze to him through the mirror. Waving your hand to shew him away.
You knew what he was trying to do. You also knew exactly what would happen if you gave in; your makeup smudged, your hair ruined, a twenty-minute delay at best. This year you were determined to get there at a reasonable time.Â
âFine. We both know itâs going to take me like five seconds to get ready though.â Jungkook strolls away from you, you could hear some frantic shuffling in the closet, before Jungkook appears seconds later.Â
Dark green, nearly black, pinstripe three-piece suit hugged his frame perfectly, the crispness of his dress shirt stark against his inky tattoos. His hair somehow effortlessly tousled yet perfectly styled, made it seem as if heâd walked straight out of a magazine spread.
Jungkook threw his arms out with a smug grin. âSee? All done.â
âShow off.â You pout, as you continue what youâre doing.Â
Jungkook just chuckled, sauntering over and perching himself back down on the edge of the tub, legs spread, shoulders relaxedâtaunting. He didnât say anything, but the amusement in his eyes told you everything. Suddenly his voice invades and echoing through your mind.Â
Am I distracting you yet?
You pointedly ignored him.
Though, you could still feel him watching you, and if you let yourself think about it too much, you knew youâd never finish getting ready. Because deep down, you knew heâd rather spend the night tangled up with you, alone, than go to this party at all.
After a little while, you finally finished your makeup and got dressed emerging in a similarly colored dark green silk gown that was beaded intricately with some beads that dangle off the gown like droplets. With some movement of the dress you sparkled under the light. An off the shoulder classic, very old hollywood.
As you stepped out, Jungkookâs head snapped up.
His gaze slowly dragged over you, taking in every detail, his lips parting slightly before he let out a low whistle.
You grinned, twirling slightly to show off the full effect.
Jungkook stood again and crossed the space between you in a few strides. He leaned back against the bathroom sink, looking you up and down with something just shy of awe.
 âHey you got something right here.âÂ
You look at him confused, then back in the mirror, âWhat? Where?â You frantically look over your face.Â
He reached out, with his pointer finger and thumb, tilting your chin toward him. âHmm⊠right here.â
Before you could react, he leaned in, pressing a lingering kiss to your cheek. You let out a soft laugh, narrowing your eyes at him. âWow.â
Jungkook merely shrugged, feigning innocence. âOhâwait. One more.â
Before you could question him, he leaned in again, this time pressing an equally slow kiss to your other cheek.
âHad to get that one.â He murmured, lips brushing against your skin. âOr the whole outfit wouldâve been ruined.â
âOh Iâm sure.â You nod, your eyes racking over him now. A familiar glow filling your whole chest. Jungkook took your hand in his. Pulling you out of the bathroom.
âCome on, sucker, weâve got a party to go to.â
âAwe come on. Youâre the one who said we could be late.â You tease with a small laugh falling off your lips.Â
The two of you wasted no more time leaving, knowing full well that if you lingered any longer, you wouldnât be stepping foot outside the apartment for days.
Jinâs manor was a short drive out of the city, nestled beyond the reach of streetlights and skyscrapers, surrounded by acres of untouched wilderness. The grand estate stood like a relic of another timeâimposing yet elegant, its dark stone exterior bathed in the silver glow of the moon.
Despite its remote location, the manor was alive with energy. As Jungkook pulled up the winding driveway, you could already hear the faint hum of music drifting from within, an undertone to the laughter and clinking of glasses.
Jinâs home was more than just a lavish estate; it was the heart of their coven, a sanctuary that housed centuries of history. Ancient relics, preserved documents, and books bound in timeworn leather lined the vast library that stretched across one wings of the house. Jin had graciously allowed you to explore it before, though even after countless hours buried in those tomes, you had barely made a dent in its secrets. Centuries of vampire lore lived here, and it was precisely that allure that had made Jimin so adamant about hosting the party at the manor this year.
When you and Jungkook arrived, the massive double doors were already open, held by two eerily still gentlemen dressed in midnight-black suits. Their expressions were unreadable, their gazes sharp but unmoving.
You barely spared them a glance before stepping inside, though a part of you wonderedâwere they vampires? Or just illusions, elegant puppets crafted by Jiminâs magic? It wouldnât be the first time he had conjured something like this for dramatic effect.
The moment you crossed the threshold, you were swallowed by opulence.
The vast entrance hall was bathed in a dazzling glow, every inch of the ceiling and walls adorned with sparkling gemstones, strung together like constellations. The light from the grand chandelier refracted off the stones, casting glittering reflections across the marble floors, creating an illusion of stardust swirling through the air.
It was breathtaking.
The energy in the room was magneticâguests, both vampire and human, dressed in the finest silks and velvets, mingled effortlessly. Laughter and music wove through the air like silk threads, wrapping around you as you took it all in.
You leaned into Jungkook, who had an iron glad grip on your waste since entering the house. âRemind me to tell Jimin there could have been more glitter.âÂ
Jungkook laughed, âI know he really over did it this time.âÂ
âNo!â You wave your hand dismissing him, âIt's fantastic this is stuff you really only read about.âÂ
And it was.
The sheer extravagance of the event was unlike anything you had ever seen. The caterers, gliding through the crowd, were dressed almost as exquisitely as the guests themselves, adorned in dark silks with golden accents, carrying trays of crystal glasses filled with deep, crimson liquid. Blood. Some trays held what you assumed was champagne, meant for the few humansâlike yourselfâwho had been granted entry to this ethereal gathering.
The walls shimmered with illusions, flickering images of dazzling courtiers and celestial phenomena. The ceiling above transformed into a starry sky that seemed almost real, galaxies swirling and constellations twinkling in slow, mesmerizing motion.
Jungkook dragged you along as you basked in every intricate detail, his hand firm yet patient as he guided you toward the grand staircase that led up to the main ballroom.
At the foot of the stairs, Jin and Jimin stood poised like royalty, greeting each guest as they arrived. Jin was immaculate in a deep burgundy ensemble that complimented his yellow eyes, exuding effortless authority, while Jiminânever one to be outshinedâwas a vision in icy silver, his entire look designed to catch the light and demand attention. Jimin had also bleached his hair back to blonde to seemingly match his outfit. All making his red eyes shine brighter.
Guests arrived behind you in a steady stream, some carrying elegantly wrapped gifts, others presenting cases of unknown offeringsârare wines, expensive liquors, or perhaps something even more elusive.
âOh a vision in green.â
Jiminâs voice was warm and teasing as he extended a hand toward you, taking yours with effortless grace and placing a chaste kiss to the back of it. His lips curled into a knowing smile as he straightened, eyes flickering with mischief.
âJimin, this is truly something else.â Your gaze swept across the dazzling room once more, still in awe of how something so grand, so utterly enchanting, could exist completely hidden from the rest of the world.
âYou flatter me.â He hummed, tilting his head slightly. âJungkook helped a lot in getting some of these decorations, so he deserves some credit.â
Jimin shot a wink in Jungkookâs direction, though you caught the slight twitch of amusement at the corner of his lipsâno doubt remembering the near disaster that had almost cost them an entire ballroom and possibly Jungkookâs head in the process.
âWell, I canât wait to see what else you have planned for the night.â You bounced on your heels, excitement thrumming through you.
Jimin, ever the opportunist, wasted no time looping his arm through yours, effectively pulling you closer. He leaned slightly around you, peering at Jungkook, who was momentarily engaged in quiet conversation with Jin.
âCan I steal her away?â
Jungkookâs brows lifted, gaze flicking between the two of you with mild suspicion. âAlready? We havenât even gotten a drink.â
âI promise to bring her back before midnight!â Jimin didnât even wait for a response before whisking you away, your shoes clicking against the marble steps as you struggled to match his pace.
You barely managed to wave at Jungkook, who remained at the foot of the stairs, watching you go with a mixture of exasperation and reluctant amusement. But the moment your eyes met, his softened, comforted by the unfiltered excitement on your face.
Jimin led you straight into the ballroomâan even grander spectacle than the entrance hall.
A massive Phantom of the Opera-style chandelier hung from the center of the vaulted ceiling, illuminated by shifting technicolor light that cast mesmerizing reflections onto the polished floor. Rhinestone streamers draped across the ceiling like cascading waterfalls, shimmering under the glow. The same illusionary night sky from the main hall continued here, except now, the constellations moved, twinkling and rearranging themselves in intricate patterns, like a cosmic dance only the stars understood.
The music was rich and full-bodied, played live by a band on a raised stage at the far end of the room. Couples twirled on the dance floor in elegant, sweeping motions, lost in the rhythm of the night. Along the walls, guests gathered in small clusters, glasses in hand, some already deep into their drinks, their laughter and whispered conversations filling the space like a carefully orchestrated melody.
âMonique! I got her!â Jimin called out suddenly, his voice cutting through the lively chatter.
A woman with cascading dark curls turned at the sound of his voice, her deep purple gown clinging to her frame as she pivoted effortlessly. The backless design of her dress only added to her commanding presence, and as she lifted a delicate crystal glass to her lips, the deep red stain left behind told you exactly what sheâd been drinking. Her hair curly and draped around her in effortless elegance. Orange eyes shining under the lights.
Monique.
She was one of Jinâs closest confidantes and Yoongiâs wifeâ212 years old, sharp as a dagger, and the resident doctor who could mend almost any injury, supernatural or otherwise. She was a force of nature in her own right. You could only imagine what Yoongi was like if she was like this, you had never had the pleasure of meeting him. Just heard stories.Â
At the sight of you, her face lit up. âDarling!â she cheered, her voice smooth as silk yet edged with a teasing warmth.
She closed the distance between you in an instant, placing affectionate kisses on both of your cheeks before pulling back to admire you fully.
âMy God, you look gorgeous.â You gave her a once-over in return, a slow grin tugging at your lips.
âRight?â She lifted her arms and gave a twirl, letting the deep purple silk of her gown fan out elegantly before settling back into place. âAlways ready to impress.â
âAnd I am.â Without hesitation, you linked your arm through hers, Jimin still holding onto your other side, the three of you now moving as an exclusive little trio through the glittering expanse of the ballroom. The energy in the room crackledâlaughter, conversation, the clink of glasses, and the distant hum of the live band blending seamlessly together.
âSo, what have I missed so far?â You asked, glancing between them.
Monique took a slow sip from her glass, the deep red liquid staining her lips like crushed roses. When she pulled back, her eyes twinkled with amusement.
âNothing at all, darling. The party has just begun.â
There was something reassuring in her tone, but you didnât miss the way her grip on you remained firm. Protective.
These gatherings were grand, extravagant, and, by all means, safeâbut that never stopped the occasional stray vampire from giving in to temptation. You were painfully, unmistakably human, and your scent had already caught the attention of several guests. Their gazes lingered just a second too long, their smiles just a bit too sharp. Monique, ever perceptive, had already positioned herself between you and a few of the more curious onlookers, a subtle yet deliberate messageâthis one is not yours to touch.
âWith you here, my dear, I can actually get things started.â Jimin mused, flashing you a grin before gracefully slipping out of your grasp.
Your eyes followed him as he moved through the ballroom like a phantom, effortless and commanding. Without a single spoken request, guests instinctively parted for him, creating space at the center of the grand hall. The shift was immediate, the energy in the room tightening like a drawn bowstring. A hushed murmur rippled through the crowd, and then, as if bewitched, the music began to die down.
Jimin turned on his heel, his expression slipping from playful to regal in an instant. When he spoke, his voice carried through the room, smooth as silk yet impossible to ignore.
âUndead and undesired.â He began, the corners of his lips curling mischievously. âWelcome to the greatest night of your lives.â
A round of applause echoed through the hall, accompanied by knowing laughter from those familiar with his theatrics. He soaked in the attention, allowing just the right amount of dramatic pause before continuing.
âI am your glorious host for this evening.â He declared, his arms spreading wide as if embracing the entire room. âYouâve heard me say it all before the universe made earth, then man, and then the vampire.â A rounding sound of hisses left everyone in the room, a large display of teeth and intimidation. âAnd we have many great things in store for you tonightâstories that will haunt your dreams, performances that will leave you breathless, and blood that will keep you satisfied until the end of time⊠or at least until my next party.â
More laughter, the atmosphere growing lighter, though the air remained charged with anticipation.
âPlease, enjoy yourselves.â Jiminâs gaze flickered over the crowd, his smirk deepening. âIndulge as much as you wish. Tonight, we feast, we dance, and we are one with the night.âÂ
With a spin and swish of his finger, the illusion that was once on the ceiling dripped down to the floor. Making it appear as if instead of walking on marble everyone was walking on the night sky. The illusion also seemed to envelope Jimin and his hair turned black and his suit went from silver to a midnight blue. The chandelier above shimmered, the illusionary constellations shifting in a dazzling display. The band struck up a new tune, rich and decadent, and just like that, the night was set into motion once more.
Monique exhaled beside you, shaking her head with a fond chuckle. âThat boy was born to put on a show.â
âHe does it rather well if I do say so.â You say, grabbing a champagne off of a tray that passes by you. Taking a sip, and of course Jimin had gotten a very nice quality champagne for this affair. You would probably be responsible for drinking two of the bottles.
âWhereâs your boy?â Monique glances around the room seeing if she can spot Jungkook herself.Â
âJimin dragged me away before he could follow. Heâll find us.â You said, taking another sip.
The music in the air swelled as a performance took center stage, dancers twirling in perfect synchrony, their movements almost hypnotic. The glittering lights overhead cast shifting patterns across the floor, and Jimin had once again disappeared, likely off to greet more guests.
âI have no doubt heâll find us soon. You two start to implode when away from each other too long.â She teased, squeezing your arm.Â
âThat may be a little true.â You giggle, sipping your champagne.Â
âItâs sweet. Youâre really great for him. Iâve always thought that.â She hums, which was true. She has told you many times over the years how great she thinks the two of you are. She was the most encouraging of the relationship in the beginning before Jungook told everyone he was dating a human.Â
âWhat about you?â You asked, tilting your head curiously. âWhere is this mysterious Yoongi Iâve heard about for years?â
Youâd expected a flippant response, maybe even an exasperated sigh, but instead, a flicker of something serious crossed Moniqueâs face. It was so quick, you almost missed it but not quite. She schooled her features almost instantly, her smirk returning as she glanced behind you.
âSpeaking of your lovesick puppy.â She raises her glass to Jungkook who was coming in your direction.Â
You turn to look at him, a smile on his face. âFive seconds in this place, and they steal you from me.â He said, immediately reaching for your free hand.
You shrugged, feigning innocence. âWhat can I say? I think they like me better than you.â
He laughed, shaking his head. âI think youâre right.â Then, glancing toward Monique, he added, âHey, Mon.âÂ
âJungkook.â She tipped her glass in his direction. âHappy New Year. Get yourself a drink.â Without waiting for a response, she snagged a goblet off another passing tray and handed it to him.
He accepted it with a nod. âHappy New Year. Planning to steal her from me again?â He teased, resting his head lightly against yours.
âNo Iâll let you have her back⊠for now.â Moniqueâs smile remained in place, but something in her tone shifted slightly. You caught it again, that same momentary change in her expression. And then, just like that, she was stepping away, disappearing into the crowd.
Jungkook didnât seem to notice.
âWhere do you want to start?â Jungkook leaned in close to your ear. âDancing, gambling, making out in the bathroom. I like the last one but thatâs me.âÂ
You smile, hitting him in the chest, âWe need at least two more drinks before we can do that.âÂ
âBoo, youâre no fun.â He clinks his glass against yours, âGuess I need to start.âÂ
You stop him before he takes a sip, âHold on, one more kiss before you have iron mouth the rest of the mouth.â
He smiles, leaning in and giving you a lingering kiss. Wanting more but not really wanting to stick his tongue down your throat in front of all these people.Â
With that, the night raged on, a whirlwind of movement and sound. You and Jungkook drifted from room to room, immersed in stories that spanned centuries. Some vampires were impossibly old, their gazes heavy with history, while others were younger, still burning with the reckless energy of newfound immortality. There were dazzling performancesâsome manipulating fire with a flick of their fingers, others bending shadows into eerie, shifting forms. Illusions warped reality before your eyes, grand halls transforming in an instant, blurring the line between what was real and what was merely a trick of power.
The night reached its peak with a fencing match and sleek steel flashing under candlelight, footwork so precise it looked more like choreography than combat. The duelists struck with deadly accuracy, piercing and slashing in ways that would have been fatal to any human. But here, wounds were shrugged off, blades pulled from chests without so much as a grimace before the fight resumed. Laughter and applause rippled through the crowd, the energy of the gathering growing wilder as midnight loomed. Blood flowed freely, whether in ornate goblets or from the eager mouths of those who had abandoned restraint. Â
Jungkook and you got separated at some point. You had found Rehna amongst the chaos though.Â
You both were now in a drawing room which was hosting the outfit competition. Waiting for the results to be read allowed. Rehna had her hands clamped tight around yours, almost painfully but you knew she was excited. Hoseok was the hosting vampire for this yearâs competition.
âSecond place goes too,â He opened up the small envelope, âThe vampire Rehna.â
You let go of her hand and start clapping yours and join in cheers from other vampires as she walks on stage to accept her award. She was happy but you could tell she was a little bitter about not getting first. She rejoins you as the winner gets their prize.Â
âHey that was a tough call, I mean that girl who got first literally had made her dress in the 18th century⊠you canât beat that.â You try to comfort her, but she picks herself up quickly.Â
âStarting tomorrow we are planning my outfit for next year. That first place is mine.â She nods, gripping onto her small trophy so tight that it seemed to bend underneath her grip.Â
âHey, the top three get to take home some really nice bottles of blood. Why donât we go pick yours out?â You say pulling her past other guests to leave the drawing room.Â
You both make your way back into the heart of the house where you pass some tall French doors that lead to a balcony area. Some vampires were smoking and other vampires leaning casually and others in deep discussion. You almost think nothing of it before you catch a glimpse of Monique standing outside alone. It makes you stop in your tracks. Rehna noticing your pause.Â
âYou alright?â She raises an eyebrow to you, trying to see what you see.Â
You wave for her to continue on, âYou go ahead. Iâll find you later.âÂ
She wants to pry but nods and continues as you turn to head out onto the balcony. The view of the estate just looked over the woods that spanned one side of the house. You could see the stars pretty clearly out here and it would be a lovely spot to sit and think. You understand why Monique may be finding solace here. You couldnât help if you said something wrong to her earlier. She usually would be enjoying the festivities but was here⊠alone. Having that same look on her face that you saw earlier.Â
The cold air bites against your skin, sharp and unwelcome, but you push past the discomfort and step closer to Monique. The moonlight catches in her dark eyes, and thereâs something distant in her expression, a weight you canât quite name.
"Care for some company?" You offer, your voice light despite the strange tension in the air.
She turns toward you with a soft, practiced smile. "Oh, darling. Having a good night?"
"So far, yes," You admit, swaying slightly as warmth buzzes through your limbs. "Iâm a little tipsy, to be honest." You giggle, the edges of your amusement blurring under the influence, and Moniqueâs smile lingers, though it doesnât quite reach her eyes.
"Are you alright? You donât seem as festive as you usually are at these things." You press, watching her closely.
She hums, a quiet acknowledgment, then exhales slowly. "Iâm alright. Still having a good time, I promise. Just⊠some old memories getting kicked up."
"Was it something I said earlier? Iâm sorry if Iâ"
She cuts you off with a small shake of her head. "No, not at all. I already knew I was going to feel this way tonight. It has nothing to do with you."
You study her, unconvinced. "Well, then what is it? Iâm pretty good at listening. Even if I donât always understand all the vampire stuff." You shrug, trying to offer levity.
A flicker of hesitation crosses her face, but then she sighs, her gaze flicking away. "Itâs⊠Yoongi."
Your head tilts slightly. "The famous and elusive husband?"
The name lingers in the air between you. Youâve heard plenty about Yoongi. Whispers of a sharp mind, a man who seemed to exist only in the stories others told. Youâd assumed he was simply away, a researcher, a traveler always chasing something beyond your reach. Whenever the subject arose, the conversation had a way of dissolving into something else, slipping through your fingers before you could grasp any real details. The way everyone spoke about him made it feel like he was still here.
Just hidden, just unseen.
"YesâŠ" Moniqueâs voice is quieter now, careful. "Has Jungkook talked about him much?"
"Here and there.â You admit. "The subject always seems to get dropped pretty quickly, though. Iâve heard plenty of stories from everyone else. Iâve always wanted to meet him, but it feels like⊠like heâs never around."
A pause. "Makes sense.â She murmurs, gaze flickering as if sheâs choosing her words with precision. "Well, they were very close⊠Are close. Come with me."
She nods her head back inside and she takes your hand before you can ask anything else, fingers cool and firm as she pulls you through the party.
She grabs two more glasses which you assume is for herself. She leads you down two flights of stairs, away from the pulse of the party, the sounds fading into a distant echo. The air grows cooler, the flickering light from the sconces casting elongated shadows on the stone walls. You recognize this path and its one that leads to the cellars, a place youâve rarely ventured. Few people come down here during these gatherings. It feels⊠separate, untouched by the revelry above.
âThis feels like I'm being set up to be sacrificed or something.â You joke, trying to lighten the eerie atmosphere.
Monique lets out a laugh, her voice rich and amused. âWeird place to sacrifice you, considering there are over two hundred vampires upstairs.â
âTrue.â You admit, though the further she leads you, the less sure you are about anything. The air shifts, turning cooler, denser. The house above is lavish, but down here, it feels ancient. The stone walls, though well-lit, seem to close in the deeper you go.
Thereâs a shift in Moniqueâs expression, something amused yet knowing. âOh, also, your boyfriend is trying to find you. Heâs calling out.â
You groan. âHow bad?â
âPretty drunk.â
âOh no.â You sigh, rubbing your temple. âHe probably drank that mulled blood stuff. He waits all year for it.â
Monique smirks. âHeâs going to be a handful when you get back.â
Great. You were already preparing for a very clingy, very intoxicated Jungkook draping himself over you the moment you surfaced from⊠whatever this was. But for now, Moniqueâs grip on your wrist is firm, leading you deeper into the underground corridors.
Eventually, you reach a narrow hallway lined with locked doors. Some have glass doors, showing carefully preserved artifacts displayed in temperature-controlled rooms and historical relics, no doubt, kept safe from time and age. Others bear plaques reading âArchives.â You recognize the setup from the old library you used to work at, except this was older, untouched by time in a way that made your stomach twist.
Monique stops at the last door. Itâs heavier than the others, its dark wood carved with intricate patterns, a symbol you donât recognize etched into the center. Without hesitation, she opens it.
The room inside is cold. Silent. The flickering lights barely reach the high ceilings, casting long shadows across the stone floor. The walls are lined with plaques, names etched in silver, and beneath them, urns carefully placed in recessed alcoves. It looks like a crypt, and the air feels thick with something unspoken.
But what catches your attention isnât the room itselfâitâs the statue at the very end.
Itâs life-sized, eerily detailed. A man, frozen mid-motion, his body twisted as if recoiling from something unseen. His expression is caught between defiance and fear, lips slightly parted, eyes wide. Heâs propped up with supports, standing atop a pedestal, carved in a military-style uniform.
You hesitate near the doorway, the weight of the space pressing down on you. Monique, however, steps forward, placing one of the glasses of blood on the pedestalâs edge with deliberate care. Then she turns to you, her gaze unreadable.
âY/N,â She says softly, her voice carrying through the quiet, âmeet Yoongi.â
You blink. Once. Twice.
Your gaze flicks between her and the statue, confusion settling into your bones. âWhat?â
She looks at the figure, then back at you. âThis is Yoongi.â She lifts a hand toward the frozen man, as if introducing him formally.
You take a cautious step forward. âIâm confused.â
âThereâs a long story here, but thisâŠâ Monique exhales, her expression tightening. âThis is my husband. This is why youâve never met him.â
A sharp chill slides down your spine. You glance at the room again, at the plaques, at the urns. Your stomach twists. âDid⊠D-Did he die?â
Monique shakes her head, her voice dropping to something nearly inaudible. âThat would be easier.â
You step closer, standing beside her now. Sheâs staring at the statue like it might move, like it might suddenly exhale and return to her after years of silence. You donât interrupt. After a long moment, she takes a deep breath. âHow much has Jungkook told you about⊠vampire powers? Our history?â
You shake your head slightly. âJungkookâs told me details here and there. Iâve asked a lot of questions, but honestly⊠it still feels like Iâve barely scratched the surface even after two years.â
Monique hums in acknowledgment. âItâs complicated.â She says, nodding. âAs you know, we all have the speed, the strength, the mind reading⊠but beyond that, we each develop our own abilities. When a vampire has the power to manipulate something, and I mean truly change it, the only one who can undo that power is the one who cast it in the first place.â
A small pause echos between you. You watch as she seems to make a decision, deciding to tell a different story.Â
She continues, voice distant. âI met Yoongi at the beginning of the 19th century. My sister and I had just moved to England, escaping a war that wasnât ours. My father had connections and secured us a comfortable life through distant relatives. It was exciting but suddenly, we had titles, dowries, invitations to every ball. For a young woman, it was everything society told me I should want.â She lets out a quiet laugh, though thereâs no humor in it. âYoongi was a Viscount at the time.â
Your eyes widen slightly. âReally?â
âThey were having fun with it.â A small smirk touches her lips, as if recalling something fond. âAnyway, Yoongi was highly sought after that season. He had wealth, he was gorgeous, and he had absolutely no intention of marrying.â
You canât help but smile. âSo how did you get his attention?â
Moniqueâs smirk widens, her gaze flicking to the statue. âItâs a classic story. Boy meets girl. Girl spills wine on him in front of everyone.â
You wince. âOh no.â
âIt was mortifying.â Monique shakes her head at the memory, a soft, wistful laugh escaping her lips. âI spent days trying to make it right, sending notes, trying to find a way to replace his coat. Apologizing over and over, but he didnât care in the slightest. He actually found it amusing how much care I placed in a simple dress shirt.â
She falls silent then, her eyes locked onto Yoongiâs frozen form, as if trapped in the past alongside him. The weight of her grief settles over the room like a thick fog, making the air heavy, pressing against your chest.Â
âSo then what?â You ask gently, urging her on.
âHe started coming around more often. We became fast friends, though he never officially courted me. It all just⊠fell into place. One day, I realized I couldnât help how I felt. Except he beat me to it. Probably read my mind or something.â Shaking her head with pursed lips, âIt was easy, natural⊠until he had to tell me about the vampire part.â
âHow did he do it?â
âHe just blurted it out.â She huffs a small laugh, the memory clearly amusing in hindsight. âHe wasnât dramatic about it, didnât sugarcoat it, just said it. Like it was the most normal thing in the world. He didnât care if I knew. He was so sure I wouldnât blink twice over it. And he was right. I didnât.â She shrugs. âI had no idea before that. They were very good at keeping themselves hidden back then.â
You shift your weight slightly, glancing again at the statue, at the way Yoongiâs body is posed. âThen he asked you to marry him?â
Monique exhales a long breath, her fingers tightening around the glass she holds. âYoongi was actually afraid to ask me to marry him. Vampires asking for a humanâs hand in marriage is a big deal. You are asking this person to be with you for eternity. It meant Yoongi was asking to turn me, turn into a vampire. Now he had little hesitation about it, for a long time, but he was terrified of what it meant. Of taking something from me. My humanity, my chance at a ânormalâ life. He worried about things like children, about whether I would resent the decision later.â She shakes her head. âBut I never wanted children. I watched my mother have five boys and knew early on that that life wasnât for me.â
âSo what did you say when he finally asked?â
A soft, nostalgic smile curves her lips. âI told him there was nothing I wanted more. That the idea of forever with him didnât scare me. That it excited me.â Her gaze flickers with warmth, but only for a moment before the sadness creeps back in. âHe was so surprised by my willingness. But for me, it was the easiest decision in the world. That I would willingly die for him.âÂ
Silence hangs between you for a beat before you press further. âSo then⊠how⊠when did this happen?â
Moniqueâs expression shifts, her voice quieter now. âIt happened during World War One. Humans werenât the only ones at war. There was a war between vampires, too. A lot of vampire men were drafted into the human armies, fighting not just humans, but each other. And the women⊠we fought our own battles in the shadows, deep in the forests.â She lets out a humorless laugh. âNo matter how powerful we think we are, war finds a way to break everyone.â
Your stomach knots at the implication.
âOne night, Yoongi and Jin were on patrol for their unit when they were ambushed by a squad of enemy vampires. They had no idea what kind of abilities these vampires had, but they were outnumbered. Jin managed to take down two of them, but he got badly injured in the process. Yoongi, was trying to get Jin out, trying to protect him. And thenâŠâ She swallows hard, her eyes drifting back to the statue. âOne of them petrified him.â
âOh no.â
She nods. âTurned to stone instantly.â Her fingers clenched into fists. âJungkook and Hoseok found Jin, barely alive, but by the time they got there, it was too late. The vampire who did this to him was gone. No trace. No way to track them.â She exhales sharply. âThey brought Yoongi back like this⊠and heâs been this way ever since.â
A cold chill creeps up your spine as you stare at Yoongiâs statue. The idea that he isnât dead but that heâs still in there, trapped, unable to move, unable to speakâmakes your skin crawl.
âYou havenât found the vampire who did this? Even after all this time?â You whisper.
Moniqueâs jaw tightens, and when she speaks, her voice is edged with something far more dangerous than sadness.
âNo.â
Her lips press together before she exhales sharply. âItâs possible theyâre dead. But it doesnât undo the effect.â Her voice wavers, frustration and grief laced together in a fragile thread. âItâs almost ironic. Yoongi spend most of his life dedicated to understanding vampires better. Yoongi spent centuries researching vampire abilities, collecting books, studying cases, trying to understand all the different powers we possess⊠and yet, even with all his research, we still donât have an answer.â She lets out a humorless laugh. âSo heâs just⊠like this. Until we find a way to undo it.â
Your throat tightens. âMon⊠Iâm so sorry.â A small tear escaping one of your eyes. The grief that escapes her overwhelming you.
She shakes her head. âNo need to apologize.â She reaches over, wiping your tear away. âAnd no need for tears.âÂ
âButâI canât even imagine how you feel.â
âItâsâŠâ She hesitates. âItâs painful. I have to keep living in the hopes we find something⊠For the first few years, I wasnâtâI was just existing. A shell of myself, searching for answers, desperate for anything that could fix this. I hunted for that vampire for what felt like forever. We had leads, rumors about others with similar abilities, but they always led to dead ends.â
You swallow, glancing back at Yoongiâs unmoving figure. âYou know⊠Can he hear us?â
Monique exhales slowly. âWe donât know. We all talk to him regardless, just in case. We tell him about the world, about whatâs happening, about us. We try to keep him filled in⊠but honestly?â Her voice wavers. âA part of me hopes he can hear us. But another part of me hopes he canât. That he hasnât been sitting here, awake, for more than a hundred years, unable to move, unable to speak.â
Your eyes widen at the realization, he could be awake. âOh my god. I hadnât even thought about that.â
Moniqueâs eyes soften, but thereâs an unbearable weight behind them. âYeah⊠so today is hard. Itâs supposed to be a celebration, but how do I celebrate without the person I want most? Sometimes it feels like he died. The grief comes and goes, like waves, crashing when I least expect it.â
âI donât know⊠Iâm sorry.â You murmur.
She meets your gaze, a flicker of something unreadable in her expression. âI hope we can find something.â She sighs, rolling the stem of her glass between her fingers. âBut at least we live in a lasting age of peace now. Vampires have worked hard to bridge the gaps between us. We wonât have to fight like that again. We lost so manyâso many were sacrificed.â
She pauses, then continues. âWeâve had vampires come from all over, trying to help. Some of them were Yoongiâs friends, people he helped in their time of need. But no matter how many have triedâŠâ She gestures toward him, her voice barely above a whisper. âWeâre still here.â
You hesitate, glancing around the dimly lit space. âWhy is he down here? Why not up at the party, where people can pay their respects?â
Moniqueâs jaw tightens. âBecause in the â90s, some drunk idiot broke off his left arm.â
Your eyes widen. âShit.â
She nods, and now that you look closer, you can see the faint lines where the repair was made. Just below the shoulder.
âAfter that, we decided Yoongi couldnât be displayed at the parties anymore. It was too dangerous. Too much risk.â
Your chest tightens at the thought. âThatâs awful.â
She hums, staring at her glass before tipping it slightly in the direction of the other drink she brought down. âThatâs why I bring this.â She says softly. âItâs for him. So he can still celebrate. I always come down here on this night. I spend the New Year with him.â
Your heart aches at the quiet devotion in her voice. âThatâs⊠so sad.â
Monique shakes her head, offering you the ghost of a smile. âNo sadness tonight. Itâs a night of celebration.â She reaches out, squeezing your hand gently. âYou should go back up. Iâll be okay. Now that youâve finally met Yoongi.â
âWell it was lovely to meet you Yoongi.â You nod towards him looking back to her, âIÂ donât mind staying.â
âYou have so much to celebrate.â She gives you a small, reassuring smile. âGo be with everyone. Celebrate into the night. Itâs close to midnight, and Iâve kept you long enough.â
You open your mouth to protest, but at that momentâ
Baby. Baby, where are you?
Jungkookâs voice echoes in your mind, petulant and needy. He sounds whiny, which means heâs definitely had a few too many drinks. If you donât go find him, heâs liable to start running through the halls, searching for you like a lovesick idiot.
You sigh, amused. âIâll come say goodbye before we leave.â
Monique nods, her expression warm but tired. âOkay.â
With one last glance at Yoongiâs frozen form, you turn and head back up to the partyâleaving Monique to her vigil, her love for him unwavering even after a century of waiting.
With a heavy heart and a mind full of tangled thoughts, you ascend the stairs, leaving behind the weight of Monique and Yoongiâs story. Their tragedy lingers in your chest, an ache that refuses to settle. Sheâs been waiting, searching, for him, for a way to bring him back. The sorrow in her voice clings to you, and as much as you wish you could do something, anything, to help⊠you know thereâs nothing.
The party is still in full swing as you step back into the throng of people. Laughter echoes through the grand halls, music thrums beneath your feet, and the faint scent of spilled champagne lingers in the air. You weave your way through the crowd, your mind distracted as you search for Jungkook.
He could be anywhere by now, lost in the sea of guests. You sigh, dodging a pair of unsteady dancers and taking note of the slight destruction left in the wake of too much drinkingâJimin is going to love that.
âOh, Jungkook, where are you?â You murmur to yourself, scanning the faces around you.
If only you had some supernatural ability to read minds, to pull his thoughts from the noise and find him in an instant instead of aimlessly wandering.
You slip into a quieter hallway, peeking into rooms as you pass, hoping to spot him. Nothing. Itâs almost comicalâheâs likely looking for you too, both of you just barely missing each other in the chaos.
Meanwhile, Jungkook has been trapped for the past hour listening to Jiminâs annual rant about how he should have won a gold medal in the 1972 Winter Olympics. He tells the story every single year, growing more bitter with time. Jungkook, slouched on a couch with his head hanging over the back, has all but tuned him out, using what little cognitive function he has left to search for your mind instead.
Itâs proving difficult.
Heâs sixâno, seven drinks in. His limbs feel heavy, his mind hazy.
His eyes are closed when he feels it, a soft press of lips against his forehead. His red eyes blink open, vision blurry before it sharpens, landing on you. Youâre smiling down at him, hands braced on either side of his head, warmth radiating from your touch.
âMy love.â You say and Jungkook hums. A drunken smile on his face. Unbeknownst to him you had left a lipstick march on his forehead. In his search for him, you took a pause to reapply it.
âYou found me.â He sighs. You kiss hip lips, a little awkward since his head was upside down. Leaving another stain on his lips. Then another on both of his cheeks. Another on his nose. All leaving lipstick stains behind.
âNow you look perfect.â You laugh at your work, Jungkook still unaware of what you had done. You pull out your phone to take a picture. It would be a good one to show him later.Â
âI need to tell you a secret.â He says staring up at you while you stare at the picture.
âYeah?â You look at him and he curls his finger gesturing for you to come closer. You lean your head close to his mouth.Â
âIâm a vampire.â He whispers. Then, with a chuckle, he giggles at himself.
You snort, pulling back to look at him properly. âOh my god, I had no idea.â
He waves for you to come close again and you comply, âI also really want to rip that dress off with my teeth.âÂ
âHot, maybe another time.â You whisper to him. Standing back up straight. Jungkook hoists himself off of the couch. Walking past you with a smug grin on his face as he leaves the room.Â
Follow me. His voice calls back to you in your mind.
You trail after him as he just keeps on walking through the house, stumbling a little but mostly keeping himself up right. You stay close behind, he manages to swiftly grab another glass for himself and for you. He caught a quick glimpse of himself in a mirror and gave you a knowing look. You just shrug your shoulders like you had no idea what you had done.Â
 Before he veers down another hallway, which was technically off limits to other party members. You knew this wing, this is where the library was. Which is exactly where Jungkook ducked into. Things that were old but could be safely kept out in the open for those to look at regularly were kept here. It was a beautiful collection that Jin had curated over the years. Some works you would never find in any parts of the world. It didnât shield from the rest of the sounds of the party but it was much quieter. Only a lamp was left on so the light in here was dark.Â
âNo Jin will actually kill us if he sees we brought drinks in here!â You protest staying a foot outside the door while Jungkook stands inside.Â
âHeâll never know, plus he likes you so he would never get mad at you.âÂ
âJungkook itâs almost midnight, we'll miss the countdown.âÂ
âWe can have our own.âÂ
âBut-â
âCome here.â He grabs your hand pulling you into the room anyways. Closing the door behind the both of you. âI just want one moment just with you.âÂ
He sets the glasses down on one of the side tables. Taking your hand again. Pulling you into him. You donât protest him letting yourself fall into his arms.Â
It was just a comfortable silence between the two of you for a moment. The hum of the music outside filled in the void as your mind was flooded. Your chest was so full and so warm because you just loved Jungkook so much. Your mind still wandered. Thinking about something like what happened to Yoongi and Monique⊠you couldnât imagine. How would you even handle that kind of thing if it was you two. Sheâs been waiting for over a hundred years now.Â
They only got a small piece of forever together.Â
You felt every word she said about Yoongi because itâs all the same things you felt for Jungkook. You would go searching the world for something to fix him. To bring him back to you. You would do anything.Â
You would die for him.Â
Your thoughts are interrupted. The sounds of people outside begin to countdown from 30.Â
âSo what do you want in the new year?â You ask him, your arms hugging tighter around Jungkook.
He thought for a moment, chewing on his bottom lip, âNever hear Jiminâs Olympic story ever again. I lived it⊠I already know what happened.âÂ
You laugh, âBe serious.âÂ
20.
âFine. I donât need anything. I have everything I want already.âÂ
âEverything? Thatâs a lot.âÂ
âI know.âÂ
15.
Jungkook leans close to your ear. âWhat about you? What do you want for the new year?âÂ
âI think I want to have everything⊠I donât have it quite yet.âÂ
âWhat do you mean?âÂ
10.
âI justâŠâ The words caught in your throat because you had wanted it for much longer than you were willing to voice. You had thought about it since the day he told you but you werenât sure if you were ready.
âWhat is it?âÂ
âI want more than this Jungkook⊠I want forever.âÂ
5.
âWhat are you saying?âÂ
4.
âI want you. I want our life. I donât think I was ready to talk about it before but I want it nowâŠâÂ
âY/N.â

The moon hung impossibly large above the kingdom.
Its crimson light stained everything beneath it, turning stone towers and marble courtyards the color of fresh blood. Smoke drifted through the night sky in thick black ribbons, swallowing the stars one by one as flames consumed buildings you somehow knew were important. The air smelled of ash, iron, and something else. Something painful enough to make your chest ache even before you understood why.
You stood at the center of it all.
Heat licked against your skin, but it wasn't the fire that made your hands tremble. Your gaze remained fixed on the dark stains coating your palms. Blood. So much blood. It slid between your fingers and dripped onto the white stone beneath your feet, each drop echoing through the eerie silence that had settled over the burning kingdom.
No. Not silence. Voices. Distant at first then closer.
"Y/N."Â Â The sound wrapped around you like a ghost.Â
You spun toward it, your pulse stumbling. Beyond the smoke stood seven figures. Their faces remained hidden, blurred by the haze rolling through the ruined courtyard, yet something deep inside you recognized them instantly. Not as strangers. As something far worse. As people you had once loved. The recognition struck with such force that your knees nearly buckled.
"Y/N." Another voice. A different one. Gentle. Broken. The grief inside that single word carved straight through your chest.
You tried to move toward them. Your body refused.
It felt as though invisible chains had wrapped around your limbs, anchoring you to the bloodstained stone beneath your feet. Panic surged through you as the distance between you and the seven silhouettes stretched wider despite neither side moving.
"No," you whispered. The word barely reached your own ears.
One of the figures stepped forward. The smoke shifted.
For a split second, you caught a glimpse of silver hair illuminated by crimson moonlight. A familiar face threatened to emerge from the shadows before the image fractured like shattered glass.Â
Pain exploded behind your eyes. Memories flashed. A hand intertwined with yours. Laughter echoing through castle corridors. A promise spoken beneath moonlight.  Warmth.  Love.Â
ThenâŠ
Screaming.
The images shattered as quickly as they had appeared. You gasped and pressed both hands against your temples. The world around you trembled violently. Flames climbed higher along distant towers. Stone walls cracked apart with deafening groans. The kingdom itself seemed to be collapsing.
Still, your gaze remained locked on the seven figures. You needed to reach them. Needed to explain. Needed toâ
A scream tore through the night. Your head snapped toward the sound. Someone was crying. Begging. The voice carried a desperation so raw that your stomach twisted. The sound came from behind you.
Slowly, almost against your will, you turned. At first you saw nothing. Only darkness and smoke.Â
Then a shape emerged. A massive shadow stretched across the ruined courtyard, far larger than any human. Its form shifted constantly, twisting through the darkness like living smoke. Two glowing eyes opened somewhere within it.
Watching. Waiting. Ancient. Hungry. Terror rooted you in place. The thing knew you. You didn't understand how, but you felt it immediately. It knew exactly who you were.
The shadow moved. The ground beneath your feet cracked. The seven figures shouted your name all at once. This time their voices weren't distant. They were terrified.
"Y/N!"
The world split apart. The crimson moon overhead fractured down the middle, scattering shards of red light across the sky. A sharp pain pierced your chest.
And suddenly, you remembered something. Not a face. Not a name. Just a feeling. A choice. The certainty that you had willingly walked toward something terrible. That you had known exactly what it would cost. That you had done it anyway.
A sob clawed its way up your throat. "No..." The word broke apart before it fully formed.
The shadow surged forward. The crimson light swallowed everything.Â
And you woke. Your eyes flew open as you bolted upright in bed. The darkness of your apartment greeted you immediately, quiet and familiar in a way that felt almost jarring after the chaos of the dream. Your lungs strained for air. Sweat clung to your skin despite the cool breeze drifting through the partially opened window.
For several moments, you remained frozen. Waiting. Listening. Half convinced you would still hear the screams. Half expecting to see crimson moonlight spilling across your walls. But there was nothing. Only silence. Only your racing heartbeat.
You dragged both hands across your face and forced yourself to breathe. This wasn't real. It never was. Yet the grief lingering in your chest felt impossible to dismiss. Every time you had this dream, it left behind the same hollow ache, as though you had lost something precious but couldn't remember what it was or who.
With a tired sigh, you reached toward the notebook resting on your bedside table. You already knew what you'd find before opening it. The pages were filled with sketches drawn during sleepless nights and restless mornings. Symbols. Fragments. Pieces of a world you couldn't explain.
Your fingers paused as you flipped to the newest page. A fresh drawing stared back at you. A crimson moon. And beneath it⊠Seven figures standing around a woman. Your breath caught. You had no memory of drawing it.
The sketch followed you throughout the morning.
Even after you closed the notebook and buried it beneath a stack of unopened mail, the image remained lodged behind your eyes with unsettling clarity. Seven figures. A crimson moon. A woman standing at the center as though the entire world had been built around her. The drawing should have felt like the product of an overactive imagination, yet the familiarity settling in your chest refused to be dismissed.
The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the small apartment as you moved through your routine on instinct rather than thought. You brushed your teeth while replaying fragments of the dream, burned the first slice of toast because you forgot it was in the toaster, and nearly walked out without your keys until a glance toward the front door made something in your mind click back into place.
"You're getting worse," you murmured to your reflection while tying your hair back. The smile you attempted looked convincing enough, but the tiredness beneath your eyes belonged to someone who hadn't slept properly in weeks.
The bookstore welcomed you with the familiar scent of paper, wood, and dust that had somehow become comforting over the years. Tall shelves stretched toward the ceiling, sunlight poured through the front windows, and soft music drifted from hidden speakers. Everything about the place should have grounded you in reality, yet your gaze instinctively wandered toward the history section the moment you stepped inside.
"Morning, Y/N."
You turned to find Mina balancing a stack of newly delivered books against her hip. She nudged the boxes onto the counter with practiced ease before studying your face, her brows knitting together almost immediately.Â
"You look like you spent the night arguing with ghosts." She quietly examined your face.
A quiet laugh escaped you before you could stop it. "Just another weird dream."
"You've been saying that every week." Mina crossed her arms and leaned against the register, her expression softening. She had known you long enough to recognize when you were hiding something, but she also knew pushing rarely worked.Â
"The same one?" You nodded.Â
"The castle?" Another nod.
"The red moon?" You hesitated.
"And the seven people?" she guessed carefully.
The smile slipped from your face. "You remember that?"
"You tell me every single time." Mina reached for the receipt printer and absentmindedly tore off a strip of paper. "You never remember their faces, but you always wake up crying."
Her words settled heavily between you. Crying. You honestly couldn't remember doing that.
Throughout the morning, customers wandered through the aisles while you reorganized shelves and recommended novels with automatic politeness. Your hands worked efficiently, but your attention drifted whenever your eyes landed on historical titles. Ancient kingdoms. Forgotten civilizations. Lost dynasties. Every cover seemed to pull at something buried deep inside you.
One particular book slipped from the shelf as you reached for another. It landed open on the floor. A full-page illustration stared back at you. An ancient palace stood beneath a crimson moon. Your fingers tightened around the edge of the page.
The architecture looked impossibly familiar. The curved bridges, towering pillars, and carved stone gardens stirred something inside you that felt less like recognition and more like homesickness.
Before you realized what you were doing, your fingertips traced the printed image. Heat rushed through your hand.
A whisper brushed against your ear. "Your Majesty."
You jerked backward so abruptly that the book snapped shut and hit the floor with a loud thud. Several customers glanced in your direction.
"You okay?" Mina appeared beside you almost instantly, steadying the stack of books that had nearly followed the first one onto the floor.
You stared at the closed cover, your pulse hammering against your ribs.
"I thought..." You swallowed, unable to explain the impossible certainty that someone had spoken directly beside you. "Never mind."
Mina crouched to pick up the book, then paused when she noticed what was printed across the front. "Huh."
"What?"Â
She turned the cover toward you. Across faded gold lettering, a promotional sticker advertised a special exhibition opening that afternoon.
RED MOON: THE LOST VAMPIRE KINGDOM
A private collection of artifacts and paintings displayed for the first time.
Below it sat an illustration identical to the one you had just touched.
For reasons you couldn't explain, your heartbeat slowed. Instead of fear, an overwhelming curiosity settled over you. It felt less like discovering something new and more like remembering an appointment you had forgotten centuries ago.
Mina watched the strange calm spread across your face and exhaled through her nose. "There it is."
"There what is?"
"The look." She tucked the book into your hands and tilted her head toward the poster. "You've been searching for something since the day I met you, even if you don't know what it is."
You looked down at the crimson moon printed across the cover. The image should have been nothing more than ink on paper. Instead, your chest tightened with quiet certainty.Â
Somehow, impossibly, it felt like an invitation and without fully understanding why, you already knew you were going.
By the time your shift ended, the sky had softened into shades of amber and violet, the last traces of sunlight stretching across the city before surrendering to evening.Â
The museum stood only a few streets away, its glass exterior reflecting the fading light like a mirror, elegant and impossibly modern despite the ancient history waiting inside.
You hesitated at the entrance. The banner hanging above the doors fluttered gently in the wind.
RED MOON: THE LOST VAMPIRE KINGDOM
Your fingers curled around the ticket Mina had insisted on buying before practically pushing you out of the bookstore. She had laughed and called it "exposure therapy for your weird dreams," but standing beneath those words, your chest carried a weight that had nothing to do with anxiety. It felt like coming home. The thought arrived so naturally that you frowned.Â
Home? You had never been here before.
The museum greeted visitors with hushed conversations and polished marble floors that reflected the warm glow of chandeliers overhead. Families wandered between displays, students scribbled notes into notebooks, and history enthusiasts paused to admire every carefully preserved artifact.
Normal. Everything looked completely normal yet the deeper you walked into the exhibition, the more your heartbeat refused to settle.
Ancient swords rested beneath protective glass. Intricately carved goblets lined velvet shelves. Portraits of forgotten nobles watched silently from gilded frames. Every object stirred the same strange sensation⊠a fleeting impression that you had touched them before, that your fingers already knew the texture of the worn metal and aged wood.
You stopped before an enormous tapestry stretching from floor to ceiling. It depicted a magnificent castle beneath a crimson moon. Seven figures stood on a balcony overlooking thousands of people gathered below. Time had faded their faces beyond recognition. Even so, your eyes immediately found the empty space beside them. There should have been eight. The certainty arrived without explanation.
You stared at the tapestry until the sounds around you gradually faded into silence. The crowd disappeared. The lights dimmed. The polished marble beneath your shoes transformed into cool stone.
A breeze brushed against your cheek. Not air-conditioned air. Night wind. You blinked. The tapestry moved. Flags swayed from towering walls. Torches flickered. Music drifted through an open courtyard somewhere beyond your sight.
Your breath caught. Someone laughed. Not nearby but behind you. A familiar warmth spread through your chest before logic could intervene. You turned. Nothing. Only museum visitors moving from one exhibit to another. The illusion vanished so quickly that you almost convinced yourself it had never happened. Almost.
"You look like you've seen a ghost." The amused voice belonged to an elderly curator arranging brochures near the display.
Heat rushed into your face. "I just..." Your gaze drifted back toward the tapestry. "It feels familiar."
The curator followed your line of sight, a thoughtful expression settling across his features. "You're not the first visitor to say that."
He stepped beside you and folded his hands behind his back. "Legends say the kingdom disappeared overnight. No ruins have ever been found, no official records survived intact, and half the historians believe it never existed."
His eyes lingered on the crimson moon stitched into the ancient fabric. "But people often stand here much longer than they intended."
You smiled politely, though the uneasy feeling only deepened. "What happened to them?"
"The kingdom?" He nodded. "No one knows."
His fingertips brushed the edge of the information plaque. "Some stories speak of betrayal. Others speak of sacrifice."
The single word echoed somewhere inside you. Sacrifice.
Without warning, your vision blurred. A woman's hand appeared before you. Elegant. Pale. A silver ring rested against her finger, shaped like intertwining branches surrounding a crimson stone. Your hand. The realization struck before the image disappeared.
You stumbled backward. The curator instinctively reached toward you, but you recovered your balance and forced a reassuring smile. "I'm okay."
Were you? Your pulse insisted otherwise. You needed air.
You turned away from the tapestry and wandered deeper into the exhibition until one final display caught your attention. Unlike the others, this room contained only a single artifact. A necklace rested inside a circular glass case. Its pendant held a deep red gemstone that seemed to glow beneath the display lights.
The moment you stepped closer, warmth spread across the back of your neck. Your heartbeat slowed. Every instinct urged you forward. Your hand lifted without permission. The instant your fingertips touched the glassâ Pain exploded behind your eyes.
The museum disappeared. Moonlight flooded your vision. You stood in an enormous garden surrounded by white flowers. Laughter drifted through the night. Someone stood beside you. You couldn't see his face. Only his hand reaching toward yours. His fingers brushed your knuckles. Warm. Familiar. Safe.
A quiet voice carried through the darkness. "I'll find you."
Your chest tightened as you reached toward him. The vision shattered. The museum rushed back all at once, conversations filling the silence as your hand dropped to your side. You stared at the necklace, unable to move.
Beneath the artifact, a small brass plaque identified it with only three words.
Property of the Crimson Queen.
The words on the plaque blurred together. You read them once. Twice. Three times.
None of it made sense, yet your hand refused to leave the glass. The warmth radiating from the crimson gemstone seeped through your fingertips until it settled somewhere beneath your ribs, filling an emptiness you had never noticed before.
A sharp ringing echoed through your ears. Your reflection appeared faintly across the display case. For the briefest moment, it wasn't your own face looking back.Â
A woman stood where you should have been. She wore deep crimson robes embroidered with silver thread, her hair adorned with intricate ornaments that caught the moonlight like stars. Grace rested in every line of her posture, and although sorrow shadowed her expression, her gaze carried the quiet strength of someone who had already accepted an impossible decision.
Then she smiled. Not at the necklace. At someone standing behind her. Your heart lurched. You spun around. The room remained exactly as it had been.
Visitors wandered between exhibits, murmuring to one another as cameras clicked in the distance. A child tugged on his mother's sleeve, pointing excitedly toward an ancient sword while an elderly couple debated the accuracy of the historical descriptions.
Everything was ordinary. Everything except the ache spreading through your chest.
You stepped away from the display and forced yourself to breathe. One step. Another. By the time you reached the center of the gallery, the ringing in your ears had begun to fade.
The museum's evening announcement crackled gently through the speakers.
"Thank you for joining us for the opening of Red Moon: The Lost Vampire Kingdom. Our special guests will be arriving shortly, and the west gallery will temporarily close for a private viewing."
The crowd responded with quiet excitement. Some visitors pulled out their phones. Others drifted toward the velvet ropes separating the main exhibit from the adjoining hall.
Curiosity nudged you forward. You had no interest in celebrities or exclusive events, but standing alone suddenly felt unbearable. Blending into a crowd seemed easier than trying to convince yourself that you hadn't just seen a woman who looked exactly like you.
A handful of museum staff appeared first, exchanging quick nods as they checked every corner of the gallery. Then seven men entered. Conversation softened almost immediately. You recognized them, of course. Almost everyone did. They moved together naturally despite their different personalities, years of familiarity evident in every glance exchanged between them.
Namjoon walked at the front, his attention drifting toward the architecture before the displays, already reading every information plaque with genuine curiosity.Â
Jin followed beside him, carrying an easy elegance that made every greeting look effortless as he smiled politely at the museum staff.
Hoseok paused near the entrance and admired the lighting overhead with bright interest, pointing something out to Jungkook, who leaned closer to inspect it before grinning. Taehyung wandered a few steps away from the group, his gaze lingering on old paintings as though he were listening for voices trapped inside the canvas.
Yoongi kept his hands inside his pockets, shoulders relaxed but eyes sharp, absorbing every detail without appearing to try. Jimin walked quietly beside him, his expression calm enough that no one would have guessed how carefully he watched the room.
You looked away. There was no reason to stare. You turned toward the nearest exit and took exactly three steps before an unfamiliar sensation swept across your body. Warmth. Not physical. Something deeper. Like invisible threads tightening around your heart. The feeling stopped you in place.
Behind you, footsteps halted. Seven pairs of eyes lifted almost simultaneously.
Namjoon's fingers slipped from the brochure he had been reading. The folded paper fluttered onto the polished floor, forgotten before it landed.
Jin's smile vanished so completely that the museum coordinator instinctively glanced behind him, searching for whatever had stolen his attention.
Hoseok's posture stiffened. The brightness that naturally lived on his face disappeared beneath unmistakable disbelief, and his hand closed around Jungkook's wrist before either of them realized he had moved.
Jungkook blinked once then again. Confusion flickered across his features as he looked from you to the others, silently asking a question nobody seemed capable of answering.
Taehyung stood perfectly still. His eyes widened with fragile hope, the kind that belonged to someone afraid to breathe in case the moment dissolved into another disappointment.
Yoongi's jaw tightened. Every muscle in his body locked beneath practiced control, but his fingers curled so firmly inside his pockets that his knuckles pressed against the fabric.
Jimin...
Jimin forgot how to breathe. The world around him receded into meaningless noise. Five hundred years of carefully constructed distance collapsed in an instant, leaving only the impossible figure standing across the gallery.
You looked exactly the same. Not the clothes. Not the hairstyle. You carried yourself differently now, uncertainty replacing the quiet confidence he remembered. But your eyes⊠He would have recognized those eyes after a thousand years. A thousand lifetimes.
His pulse pounded so violently that it drowned out every voice around him. Memories struck without mercy. Moonlight spilling across white stone. A hand slipping from his. Blood staining crimson silk. The last time he saw you turning away.Â
His feet refused to move. Because if he took one step and you disappeared again... He wasn't certain he could survive losing you twice.
Across the room, unease settled over your shoulders. Seven strangers stared at you as though you had walked out of history itself. You searched each unfamiliar face, convinced you must have mistaken them for someone else. Then your gaze met Jimin's.
An inexplicable sadness crashed into you. Your chest tightened. Your eyes stung. And although you had never met him before, every instinct inside you whispered the same impossible thought.
You know him.
Jimin's lips parted. His voice barely rose above a whisper, yet every member heard it. "That's impossible."
The crimson gemstone inside the nearby display case pulsed once.Â
And somewhere far older than the museum, something awakened.

Kim Seokjin had not only a pretty face but a brilliant mind as well.Â
At least, thatâs what he told everyone.Â
If there was a singular sin that he could fully encompass it would be vanity. And the sin that he shared with nearly everyone in his âfamilyâ was that of pride: a deadly and violent mix. That blend was what led to his damnation.
He knew that he deserved only the best and nothing less, that was exactly how he had been raised when he was still human. In the late 1800s, he had been granted the privilege of being born into high-class society as the eldest son, the heir to the Kim legacy. Everything he wanted was directly at his fingertips and at his disposal. From the moment he was born he was guaranteed power, and that was something he wished to never lose.Â
As the heir to a luxury wine company, it was only expected that alcohol, parties, and lewd behavior were set to follow him, and he exceeded those expectations. But he was good at keeping business and pleasure as two distinctly separate functions.Â
And with the life he lived, it was not often that individuals met his expectations. And by individuals, he meant potential wives. Naturally, it was expected of him to marry and continue the family's legacy. But the gold spoon that he was born with in his mouth tainted the pool. No one was good enough for him and that caused much strife within the family.Â
He was well past the age of marrying at twenty-eight years old. He was beginning to feel the pressure his father and mother were putting on his shoulders. And, not to mention, he was well aware that he was aging. Of course, he would never admit that his looks were fading. There was not a crease in his skin or a gray hair to be plucked, but he could feel it. He could see the minute imperfections that no one else could. It made his skin crawl in disgust.Â
And then Kim Namjoon entered the frame and everything began to come together.Â
His mother had insisted on organizing yet another party to find him a wife under the guise that he was there to make several important business deals. But when the vast majority of partygoers were young women with stars in their eyes he knew what was really going on. And of course, he was not going to stick around and socialize with subpar candidates. If he were going to do that it would be restricted to his bedroom, of course.Â
Namjoon had come to that party that night, Yoongi in tow despite his protests. Namjoon was a cultured man, he liked to mingle with the members of high society from time to time. It helped him learn what was appropriate for the decade as trends (in manners, clothing, and amusement) came and went rapidly. And those who belonged to the upper class were those who set those trends. It was strategic and it helped his kind blend in as seamlessly as possible.Â
And Jin was the epitome of a high-class man.Â
And so, Namjoon and Yoongi befriended him. It hadnât been hard for them, they had been around for so long that they fit right in. And Jin had merely thought he found more of the few people that could meet his high expectations - his small inner circle growing with two new additions. But of course, that friendship had started out with the purpose of using Jin for what he had.Â
So in turn, he used them.Â
While Jin had a pretty face, he actually was quite smart and observant. He took note of his companions' odd behavior. He never saw them during the daytime, only in the veil of the night. They had the oddest colored eyes - not quite black but a deep shade of burgundy like the embers of a smoldering fire laid within their depths. And they were cold, absolutely frigid to the touch like a corpse. It didnât take him very long to piece together what they were, and it was only proven true when he caught the both of them feasting on lifeless corpses in his guest room. He timed everything just perfectly to discover their true nature.Â
Yoongi had seemed genuinely surprised, bloody lips parted in shock as he stood as still as a statue, the limp body still collapsed in his iron grasp.Â
Namjoon, on the other hand, was smiling. He too was not able to conceal his nature any longer but he wasnât trying either. He took his time and continued to finish his meal despite the obvious living human presence in the room.Â
âYou two have been holding out on me,â Jin said with a disappointed tone.Â
âHolding out?â Namjoon echoed before relaxing his arms and allowing the corpse to slip down to the floor, the thinnest drizzle of blood pooling onto the parquet flooring.Â
Yoongi could only stare at the both of them, his eyes darting back and forth between the two other men.Â
âYes, holding out! You are immortal are you not?â
âYes, we are, and Iâm sure youâve figured out the rest by now havenât you?âÂ
âYou may have been able to fool all of those other halfwits but it was painfully obvious to me, of course.â
âOf course.â Namjoon nodded while trying to suppress an amused grin.Â
âI want in, I wish to join you and your kind.âÂ
âNo,â Yoongi immediately cut in, âYou donât know what youâre asking for, this is a curse it is not something to take lightly and flirt with the notion of.âÂ
His tone was harsh, his face stern but there was evident pain behind his eyes. Yoongi had been forced into this life if that was what you could even call it. He couldnât fathom someone willingly agreeing to eternal damnation and he would try his hardest to convince them otherwise.Â
âAre you denying me?â Jin asked, his face contorted in utter disbelief. He was never denied anything in his twenty-eight years of life and the feeling of rejection was infuriating.Â
âYoongi, itâs his decision,â Namjoon interjected, his hand wiping the blood from his mouth leaving a streaky crimson trail behind.Â
âYouâre not actually considering this, are you?â Yoongi hissed.
âWhat is there to consider? Heâs already seen us and he knows what he wants.â
âHe has no idea what he wants!âÂ
âAnd why are you speaking for me? Just because youâre miserable and dissatisfied does not mean the same will be said for me!â Jin spat. âI grow tired of this human body. Every second of every day I feel myself wasting away and there is not a thing I can do about it.â
âYou would throw away your humanity, your life, all in the name of vanity?â Yoongi asked in disbelief.Â
âAnd for greed as well,â Jin laughed, âBelieve me, I am many things and one of them is self-aware. I am a selfish bastard and I am perfectly fine with that. I wonât allow my looks to fade and my fortune will grow as centuries pass. This is what I desire and I refuse to concede.â
He was a businessman in every aspect.Â
âIt sounds like heâs made his choice, Yoongi.â Namjoon finally spoke.
âIt sounds like heâs made an ignorant choice and I refuse to have any part in this,â Yoongi said, storming past the two of them and slamming the door shut with enough force that the mahogany wood cracked by the handle.Â
âSo, are we going to fuck about or will you give me what I want?â Jin asked, his impatience growing.Â
âI consider you a good friend, Jin. I won't lie, I am pleased that you are asking this of me.â Namjoon smiled before grabbing Jinâs shoulder, âWeâre all lonely children looking for a place where we belong.âÂ
Lonely children, that was one way to put it. Namjoon was not entirely wrong. In a world where you deserved only the best, many fell short and in the end, you were painfully alone, whether you were willing to admit it or not.Â
âBefore we go through with this, there are some things you should know.â
âWhat things?â
âYou canât go in the sun, not just yet, youâll be far too young and far too sensitive to light. Quiet, dark, scentless places are going to be the best place to stay - your senses are going to be heightened tenfold. You must feed often in the early years, youâre going to be very hungry, bloodthirsty really so you need to stay away from large crowds of people.âÂ
Jin was silent for a moment, his eyes shifting from left to right and back again as he processed everything he was told. He could manage, and he could figure out how to do all of those things while maintaining his position as an heir.Â
âLastly, do not try and do this alone. In our world, there is strength in numbers as well as safety. Youâll have to stay with me and Yoongi, we will all be bound to one another as creator and creation.â
âSo when you two leaveâŠâ
âYou will follow.â Namjoon nodded, âWe try to stay in one place for as long as we can so if itâs your family youâre worried about youâll have plenty of time to figure something out.âÂ
But they werenât coming with him. As terrible as it was, that wasnât a great enough reason to sway his decision. He still wanted what he desired and he was willing to let his family go. So he stuck out his hand, ready to shake on the agreement.Â
âI accept the conditions.âÂ
~~~~~~~
Most people were afraid of spiders, some of heights, and many feared drowning. But you feared something a bit more abstract and with a bit more finality. You were afraid of aging and by association, you were incredibly afraid of death.Â
And that fear often leads you to do a few things. One of them was to start skincare at an absurdly young age. The other was to hermit yourself inside of your house out of fear of some horrific accident befalling you. And the other was to seek out strange and obscure places to visit before you die. It was odd that the last two coincide but they do.Â
There were days when you were so frightened that you couldnât stand the thought of leaving the comfort of your bed. And then you had days where you felt daring, if you were going to die one day would you really want to have lived your only life trapped inside of your own house? There were your good days and your bad days and they came and went like the tides.
Today was a âgoodâ day. And by good day that meant you were on your laptop scrolling through forums trying to find a new place to visit. Living in a small town was hard, you knew everyone and every place because they were so few in number. But sometimes there were locations in between towns, or hidden spots in your own. Briar Hills is an old town, a historical town even. Itâs not uncommon for places to be abandoned, concrete skeletons collapsing and being devoured by the flora.
It was finding them, buried in hundreds of posts, that was difficult. The teenagers in the town had taken to reclaiming those places, turning them into party spots in the blink of an eye. But that has changed in the past few months. Ever since the first body turned up.Â
That was the thing about small towns, murder was much rarer than the action that cities see. So, when dozens of corpses begin to show up in streams and lakes and people begin to go missing without a trace - panic ensues. As well as a town-wide curfew.Â
Briar Hills turned into a ghost town after dark. The streets would be empty, lit by a few lampposts spread down the street that was easily consumed by a thick, hazy fog. Every now and then the fog would be broken by police lights, red and blue shocks of color dispersing the mist as the night patrol came around the block. It looked like something out of a horror movie.Â
And, if it werenât a good day, the sight alone would be enough to keep you corralled in your room. But it was a good day and you had become stir-crazy from staying in your house for the past few weeks.
After endless scrolling there was one post in particular that caught your attention. It looked like an extravagant invitation with a satin black background and deep red embellishments. It had very little interaction and it was written in a completely different language. For something as obscure as an abandoned place in a small town you werenât surprised that it had gone unnoticed, especially considering few people checked this forum.Â
Putting the text into google translate had not been insanely helpful. The translated text was jumbled and made little sense, it was one of those languages that did not thrive when it came to longer translations. But you were interested and fairly stubborn and after extended research and decoding fragmented sentences you were left with this:
âThe best bite Iâve ever had,â And following that was a set of coordinates that had been written out instead of just using their numerical counterparts.Â
You were interested.Â
What could that mean? Maybe it was some hole-in-the-wall restaurant, but why all the decorum? Why the translations? Who even uses coordinates anymore? The best way to get the answers you desired was to discover them for yourself.Â
Thatâs how you ended up sneaking out of your house, dressed head to toe in dark colors, like some teenager thatâs about to disappoint their parents. Except, in this case, your parents were the cops, and being grounded would equate to being detained for violating the town-wide curfew. All the more reason to not get caught.Â
You started to get cold feet when you realized where the set of coordinates was leading you, your body came to a fast stop when the toes of your boots met the edge of the forest. The forest, at night, with low visibility, and predators prowling was a bad move. That just screamed a sudden and violent death, not to mention the bulk of missing persons' corpses had been found within its depths. This was a stupid idea, a bad move, but it was a good day and you were too stubborn to follow reason. You would make up for it tomorrow by hiding in your bed all day. It was an unhealthy coping mechanism, but a coping mechanism nonetheless.Â
You took a deep breath, squared your shoulders, and took a step forward. There was no going back now, you had made up your mind.
The further into the forest you trekked the quieter it became. It didnât make sense. You were getting further from society so why was it so quiet? The wind was still, not a branch or leaf trembled, and not even a cricket dared to chirp. It was like every living creature had up and left, abandoning their home. The only sound that filled the static silence was the bubbling rush of water from the river.Â
You began to walk faster, your nerves urging you to get where you were going and be done with it. On top of that, your eyes were starting to play tricks on you, your brain attempting to make sense of the dark and fill in what was missing resulting in ominous shadows shifting through the trees. You were regretting your decision immensely, so you picked up the pace and began humming to yourself to fill the silence.Â
If you were being honest, you really had no idea what you were supposed to be looking for. The post hadnât listed much of anything and you werenât sure what would be at the end of the coordinates. But, the red light glowing in the distance was a sure sign of something. It grew more intense as you neared it, the light getting stronger the closer to the ground it was. When you finally pushed through the underbrush you were met with a set of concrete stairs leading down into the ground and at the very bottom was an old metal door with a faintly pulsing red light above it. Looking down at your phone you were able to verify that you had made it to where the coordinates were marked.Â
It was a bomb shelter. It was most likely one for the community back in the forties, an evacuation and safe point for those who didnât have their own. It must have been abandoned and forgotten about after the war, left to rot there for the past eighty years. But if that light was anything to go by, it must have been reclaimed by someone.Â
You carefully stepped down the stairs, applying a little weight at a time to make sure that the concrete hadnât eroded and wouldnât crumble beneath you. When you reached the bottom you tried the door and to your surprise, it opened with a creak. There was a long tunnel just barely lit by candles lining the walls leaving deep shadows in between them. And now you could feel the walls thumping, steadily vibrating with a muffled bass. That meant there was another chamber somewhere.Â
You hesitantly traveled down the tunnel, long stretches of the floor would eventually give way to more stairs leading you deeper and deeper underground. This was a claustrophobe's worst nightmare. The more you walked the harder the walls vibrated until you finally came upon another door where the sounds became the loudest. Above the door hung a purple neon sign that read: âBlood Sugar.âÂ
Upon testing the door handle, you were surprised to find that it was unlocked, and once it slowly swung open your nose was assaulted with the scent of alcohol, sweat, and a coppery odor. You swiftly entered and closed the door behind you, trying your best not to bring too much attention to yourself. But it appears you would have no trouble doing so.Â
The room you had stepped into was massive, the walls were tall and rounded out at the ceiling and were made completely out of metal. But it was far from a barren, abandoned bunker. The room was packed with people, some dancing, some drinking, and others wrapped around one another on the various red velvet chaises spread around the space. The music was loud and the room was lit by antique chandeliers as well as deep purple lighting casting an ominous glow over everyone.Â
The bunker had been converted into a club of some sort and despite the decrepit tunnels you had slunk through to get here, it was surprisingly luxurious. You were honestly surprised the entire town hadnât known about this place. That much was certainly true because, despite the large crowd, you could only recognize about five people you had seen before. The massive gathering was largely that of people that were not from Briar Hills.Â
A set of delicate hands slithered around your waist, tugging you sharply towards the stranger behind you. A shout of surprise parted your lips as you turned around, slapping the offending limbs off of you.Â
There was a tall woman facing you with a grin on her face, her bright white teeth glinting from behind her deep red lips. Her skin was so pale it was glowing with a purple hue from the lights, her long black curls creating an even sharper contrast against her skin. And you couldnât explain why you felt the way you did, but the sight of those bright white teeth had your stomach twisting in knots. Despite her delicate appearance, every red flag was being raised in your body. The urge to run was strong.Â
âHello, sweetheart,â She crooned, âYouâre new, arenât you?âÂ
Something in the back of your mind demanded you lie.Â
âNo, Iâm not. If youâll excuse me,â You said, your voice steady and cold despite the goosebumps on the back of your neck and the rapid thump of your pulse.Â
As you went to walk past her she easily stopped you with a hand on your shoulder, her face suddenly incredibly close as she pressed her nose to your hairline and took a deep breath. âOh, you canât lie to me, I remember every sweet little snack that comes in here.âÂ
What. The. Fuck.
âLook, Iâm not interested inâŠwhatever that means,â You huffed, taking a few steps back and breaking free from her steel grasp, âIâm just here for a drink.â
âOh?â She hummed, âSo am I, Iâm glad we can cut to the chase.âÂ
âOkay?â You slowly asked before shuffling around her imposing figure, âSee ya.âÂ
You slipped into the crowd, forcing your way through the bodies in an attempt to shake her off of your trail. Anybody else in your position would have lingered for the ethereal woman, but you couldnât ignore that feeling in the back of your mind or that tug deep in your gut. She was dangerous, and no pretty smile or sweet words could hide it. It was in times like these that your intense fear of death became present as paranoia, warning you of all potential threats.
When you started therapy you were encouraged to slowly step out of your comfort zone, to do things that would combat your anxieties. So, on good days, you try your best to succeed with these short-term goals hoping in the long run you could live normally like every other person your age. But you often found your anxiety creeping up on you and you knew after tonight you would need the rest of the week to recover and that meant avoidance which meant hiding out in your rented duplex.Â
But for now, you had to cope.Â
When you broke free from the crowd you stumbled forward, a stray limb jabbing you in the back and sending you reeling onto one of the velvet chaises. To your utter embarrassment, you landed right next to a couple that had left all of their inhibitions at the door like many other patrons of the underground club. The woman was straddling the man's thighs, her arms wrapped around his shoulders as he buried his head in the crook of her neck, her long locks obscuring his face. Although you couldnât see what he was doing it didnât take a genius to figure out what it was as the womanâs mouth opened to let out soft moans of pleasure.Â
Heat rushed up to your face as you stumbled off of the chaise and backed up from the voyeuristic lovers. Of course, you weren't innocent, but seeing something like that in person was different from shamelessly reading smut at three AM.Â
A few feet away from the couple was the bar. It was surprisingly empty for a club. The man you assumed to be the bartender behind the countertop was relaxing against it, his dark eyes scanning your awkward posture.Â
You swiftly approached the bar and yelled over the music, âHi, how much is water?â
He gave you an amused chuckle before grabbing a small leather menu and sliding it over to you, âWe donât serve that here, sweetheart.âÂ
You stared at him in confusion before flipping open the menu. The only thing listed there were various wines all costing an exorbitant amount of money, and by that, you meant at least three months' rent and that was just for a glass, not even the bottle.Â
âThese prices are insane, are you kidding me?!âÂ
âTheyâre from 1889, newbie.â He smiled, a grin identical to the woman from earlier.Â
âWell, this was a bust.â You groaned, the initial buzz of excitement from finding a town secret had long since faded.Â
âCan I offer you some advice?âÂ
âBe my guest.â
âYou might want to pay more attention to your surroundings, youâve had eyes on you since you stepped foot in this place.âÂ
Your eyebrows furrowed as you peered over your shoulder. Sure enough, there were a few dark eyes staring back at you - but there was one pair in particular that really caught your attention. There was a man in a roped-off section of the club, a velvet curtain drawn to the side to reveal him seated on an ornate chair. He looked like a king watching over his people, and you meant that not only because of his position but because of his features as well. It was undeniable that he was the most attractive person in the room, hell, the most attractive person you had ever seen. Smooth pale skin, plush lips in a permanent pout, dark eyes, and the widest set of shoulders with a slender waist. He was a work of art. He had this look on his pretty features as if he had just tasted something bitter, and that look was directed behind you.Â
âIf I were you, I would get out of here. Things get crazy with fresh blood, ya know? The people here are like sharks in the water.â The bartender said, regaining your attention. âUh oh, looks like you got one on your trail.âÂ
You followed his and the pretty strangerâs gaze behind you. It was her again, the woman from earlier. She was slipping through the ocean of moving bodies with ease, her gait like that of a jaguar on the prowl as she approached. You watched as her polished fingers wiped away what looked like stray lipstick from beneath her lips.Â
Without thinking you darted away from the bar and past the pretty man, rushing through the first door you found which turned out to be the bathroom. Once the door fell shut you felt like you could relax for a moment. The music was muffled allowing you to think coherently for the first time since you had entered the bunker. Everything had become far too stimulating and you could feel your anxiety rising.Â
You leaned against the sink, turning the water on ice cold before splashing your face so that you could shock yourself back into clarity. You allowed yourself to brace the sink and relax your body, focusing on your breathing and grounding yourself before you lost control, just the way you were taught to.Â
The feeling of ice-cold fingers on your shoulders threw all of your work away.Â
You yelped and flinched, your eyes flying open to see her standing behind you in the reflection of the mirror.Â
âI knew you were a shy little thing, you should have just told me you wanted to do this privately.â She sighed with a sickeningly sweet smile.Â
In a moment of flight, fight, or freeze your body chose for you, your legs running without you telling them to do so. You didnât make it far, not before she grabbed hold of you and threw you up against the wall. Your head hit the tile behind you so hard you saw stars.Â
âIâve been hunting you down all night, youâve made me build up quite the appetite. Do you know how many others Iâve had to threaten to get to you? Everyone always wants to take someoneâs first bite.âÂ
What the fuck was she talking about?Â
âWhile it was cute at first, we've played this game for long enough, donât you think?â
âLet go of me!â You yelled while grabbing her wrists and trying to pry her hands off of you. To your complete and utter shock, she didnât move an inch, it was like her bones were made of iron - immovable and inflexible.Â
âNow, now, donât go throwing a tantrum that wonât get you anywhere.â She sighed, sliding her hand up your shoulder to wrap around your throat and squeeze.Â
Your throat and lungs burned as her grip slowly increased its pressure, your eyes watering as broken gasps and chokes for air gurgled past your lips.Â
âThere there, much better.â She whispered into your ear as she released your throat, your body going limp as you gasped for air.Â
She easily gathered you up into her arms and softly tilted your head to the side, her perfectly polished nails grazing over the stretch of skin as she hummed before pressing her cherry-red lips to your throat.Â
âDonât worry, youâll feel a slight pinch.â She joked before her jaw widened and a demonic hiss left her throat as her teeth grazed the soft flesh of your vulnerable neck.Â
But before she could sink her teeth in she was harshly ripped away from you, her perfect face slammed so hard into the bathroom wall that the tiles shattered upon impact. A loud cry of pain echoed throughout the room as she pulled herself from the wall, black blood was pouring from her crooked nose and her sliced lips.Â
Behind her stood the stranger from before, a miffed and frankly disgusted expression marred his stunning features.Â
âWhat the fuck, Jin?!â She screamed, cupping her injured face.Â
âSheâs not a fang banger, Junghee.â
Her once flawless features froze in shock as a look of horror crawled over her face. It was the look of someone who realized that they had made a horrible mistake.Â
âYouâve really fucked up this time.â He growled in irritation, a genuine growl that had your skin crawling.Â
âWell, how was I supposed to know?! What is she even doing here?!â
âThatâs none of your concern anymore, get the fuck out!â He yelled, ripping the bathroom door open and throwing her out of the room.Â
You stayed pressed up against the wall out of pure terror. Vampires, you had walked into a fucking nest of vampires and had the closest brush with death youâve ever had in your entire life. Your gaze remained locked on the vampire, Jin, as he calmed down; the waves of his rage slowly dissipating. In this lighting, you could finally see what you hadnât been able to before in the dim club. Under the fluorescent lights, his eyes gleamed a vibrant, intimidating red.Â
You winced in fright as he took a step in your direction, your body attempting to meld into the wall behind you. Jin raised his eyebrow in questioning, taken aback by your apprehension. It wasnât often he had humans cowering in fear, usually, they shook fromâŠsomething else.Â
âEnough of that, come along human.â He snapped, grabbing you by your sleeve and easily dragging you from the room despite your protests and your heels digging into the ground. He was pulling you as if you weighed nothing.Â
âLet go!â You shrieked in terror, struggling against his hold with all of your might.Â
He came to a sudden halt, gripping you by your shoulder and pulling your body so close that there was barely an inch of space left between his chest and your own.Â
âDonât you think youâve drawn enough attention to yourself tonight?âÂ
You peered over your shoulder, and sure enough, there were several of his kind watching the two of you from the dance floor. Their stares were curious and hungry. Unconsciously you shifted closer to him, choosing the lesser of two evils, one vampire versus many.Â
âLook at that youâre smart, for a human.â He snickered before guiding you back to the curtained area you had seen him sitting in before Junghee had cornered you in the bathroom.Â
âSit, stay.â He said with a smirk as he pressed you down by your shoulder onto one of the couches before gesturing for someone to close the thick curtains.Â
âLook, I just want to go home. I wonât breathe a word about what happened here or what this place is, it was a mistake coming here.âÂ
âA mistake indeed, but a mistake that needs correcting nonetheless,â Jin said with a distressed roll of his (impressive) shoulders. âSo, tell me human, how did you find this place?âÂ
You sat there in silence for a moment, your face the perfect image of confusion, âAre you being serious right now?â
âI donât recall telling a joke.â
âYou - there was a post online, on a forum? Anyone could have found it if they were looking close enough, it really wasnât that hard to find. All I had to do was translate the text and it told me where to go.â
âAâŠforum?â He repeated, clearly confused.Â
Dear God, he was an old-ass vampire who didn't know much about technology or even the internet. He didnât even know he had advertised the place. He was just an old man in a young manâs body.Â
âYou know, a forum, itâs online, it's where people who want to discuss a certain topic go to. I was looking for obscure places, abandoned buildings, and lesser-known spots in town. I found the posting for this place and it just said âThe best bite Iâve ever hadâ...I didnât know it meant literally.â You said, your nerves leading you to ramble on and on.Â
Jinâs eyes pressed shut, his face contorting in anger as a hiss parted his lips, âJimin.â
Jimin and himself were the only two vampires in their coven that knew about the club Jin hosted. Jin had been careless one night and Jimin had followed him, discovering the secret he had kept well hidden. Jin bought Jiminâs silence initially with limited access to the place, but now he was regretting every interaction he had had with the short vampire.
One of the few times Jin had found himself getting on with said vampire had led him to express his annoyance with the lack of human stock for the club. In turn, Jimin had offered to help âadvertiseâ in exchange for unrestricted access to the club.Â
Now that he had figured out how the little human had snuck her way in, he had to decide what to do with her. He could always kill her, that would be the simple answer. He could drain her dry and snap her pretty neck in an instant. But that wasnât really his style, he typically preferred to savor his meals unlike his gorger of a âbrotherâ, Jungkook.Â
Perhaps the human could serve a purpose for him.Â
âCome, human.â He beckoned with his fingers.
You remained frozen in your seat, your body still in active survival mode keeping your joints locked.Â
Jin sighed, clearly miffed by your disobedience. He rose from his own seat only to cross the room and sit next to you. His long fingers gripped your chin and jerked your head up, forcing you to look at him. His hold was ice cold, the chill from his touch steadily seeping into your jaw. You felt paralyzed by his intimidating crimson gaze. His eyes flicked quickly over your features as he turned your head from side to side, taking in your every pore.Â
âNot bad, for a human. Donât feel too offended, itâs difficult to look as flawless as myself.â He said with a casual tone as if he were merely stating a fact.Â
âYou look pretty average to me,â You blurted out the lie, your lips moving before your brain could stop you from verbalizing.Â
It was so fast you almost couldn't see it but it was there, his left eye twitched and his grip tightened forcing a slight whine of pain from you. He roughly jerked your head to the side, choosing to ignore what you said despite how much it clearly bothered him. Instead, he trained his focus on your neck, pulling the collar of your shirt down past your collarbone.
âSmooth,â He observed, his icy touch skipping over the skin of your throat, âJunghee didnât sink her dirty fangs in you after all, thatâs good.âÂ
Without warning he leaned down, his nose skimming over your neck as he breathed in, flooding himself with your scent. His grip tightened as you yelped and tried to jerk away from him in fear that this time you would surely die at the hands of a mythical creature, a monster in the flesh.Â
You squeezed your eyes shut as you felt his plump lips brush your throat, his cool breath fanning over the skin and leaving goosebumps in its wake. His actions were reminiscent of a wine connoisseur, the way they studied the body of the wine and the aroma. He was assessing you - attempting to decide if you would make a good meal, that you were certain of.Â
You jerked as you felt him bury his face further into your neck. You could feel the slight flutter of his eyelashes against your skin as a groan parted his lips.Â
âWell, donât you smell delicious?â He crooned, his tongue swiping over his lips and just barely ghosting over your throat. âI think that we can come to an agreement, does that sound nice?âÂ
âWhat,â You paused to clear your throat, âwhat did you have in mind?âÂ
âIâm glad you asked,â He said with a wink after pulling back from you, âYou see, I think we could mutually benefit from one anotherâs company. While breaking your pretty little neck would certainly be the easiest way out of this problem, I do find you quite amusing, pet.â
Your body grew stiff as your mind conjured up the image of his strong hands severing your vertebrate in one smooth pull, your body falling limp and lifeless on the clubâs floor. Your greatest fear was death and Jin was death incarnate. He could very easily take your life if he so desired and he was making that very clear. He cared not whether you lived or died but only if your presence benefitted him in some manner. Your life was inconsequential.Â
âVery few people meet my standards but you are very lucky, I have a rather refined palette and it just so happens you meet said standards. So, I would like to propose a business arrangement. You will be my sole donor and keep those pretty lips sealed about everything you have witnessed tonight and in turn, you get to keep your life.â
âAnd if I donât agree?â You dared to ask.Â
A sneer marred his perfect face, his fingers gripping your chin and forcing you to look at him in his blood-red eyes.Â
âThen your pathetic human life ends right here, right now.â He said, his hand slipping down your jaw to loosely wrap around your throat. He could feel your pulse steadily thumping against his hand causing his mouth to involuntarily pool with saliva, hunger twisting in his gut.Â
Your breath hitched, fear slicing down your spine like a violent chill. You knew you only had one choice, and that was to appease the monster that sat beside you because he was far less frightening than the unknown, than the certain embrace of death that waited at every corner.Â
When fear rules your life, you have no choice. There is only ever one option.Â
âI agree,â Your voice trembled as you swallowed uncomfortably under his grasp. âIâll be your donor.âÂ
âSplendid.â He said with a grin, his canines glinting under the light.Â
âCan IâŠcan I please go home now?â You asked, clasping your trembling hands together to try and still their shaking.Â
âNo, there are a few more fine details we have to iron out,â He said, his index finger lightly tapping your chin, âFirstly, I expect you to maintain a healthy lifestyle and that means no alcohol within a twenty-four hour period before we meet and certainly no smoking itâs a dirty and disgusting habit.â
You nodded slowly, trying your best to avoid looking into his piercing red gaze.Â
âTry your best to have a healthy diet as well, the junk you humans gorge yourselves on taints your flavor, itâs unbearably sweet.â He said with a wrinkle of his nose in disgust. âI will compensate you for your efforts and your donations, once Iâve deemed you satisfactory, of course,âÂ
âI think that about covers it. And when I call upon you I expect your presence. Do we understand one another?â He asked with a tilt of his head.Â
Your throat was far too tight, your eyes burning with unshed tears as you weakly nodded in agreement.Â
âVery good,â He hummed before leaning back into the couch and soundly tapping the top of his thigh, âcome, pet.âÂ
You sat still, your body frozen in shock as you were unsure if you had heard him correctly.Â
âWell?â He raised his eyebrow expectantly.Â
âIâŠI donât think that, um-â
âAre you going to keep babbling and test my patience, or are you going to be a good little pet and do as I say?â He interjected and immediately you remembered the phantom feeling of his hand on your throat, the light grip that screamed threat.Â
You awkwardly shuffled on your knees across the couch and hesitantly settled your legs on either side of him, hovering so that your weight did not rest on his lap. In response, he firmly gripped your hips and harshly pulled you down onto him, pressing you directly against him in a way that sent heat rushing beneath your skin despite the evident chill that emanated from his body.Â
You could see his fangs even clearer now. They had become longer than before, the sharpened points dragging along the flushed skin of his plump lower lip. You were terrified by the thought of them piercing your thin flesh. What if they punctured your jugular and you bled out to death? What if he had just been playing with his food this entire time, instilling a false hope of survival in you just to watch with murderous glee as you realized you were meant to die the entire time as he drained the life out of you?Â
And then what? The void of inevitable nothingness? The abyss of the afterlife? You were spiraling now, you could feel it in the way your chest constricted and your breaths came out in panicked, short huffs.Â
A soft, wet, stroke against your throat pulled you from your frightening thoughts. As your vision cleared you realized that he had settled back into the juncture of your neck and shoulder, his tongue gently and steadily lapping at your skin. Despite your embarrassment, you could feel your body slowly relaxing and melting against him. It felt like you were being shot up with a tranquilizer, your muscles going weak from his ministrations as the skin of your neck went numb. Â
And within seconds his fangs were sinking through your flesh, easy and smooth. You jolted in response, a cry of pain leaving you as your fingers curled into the silk of his shirt while your body subconsciously leaned away, trying to escape the sudden painful stimulus.Â
In response, you could feel Jinâs arms tighten around your back and harshly pull you flat against his chest with an animalistic growl, one that immediately paralyzed you with fear.Â
The vampire beneath you was enraptured, completely lost in the feeding frenzy as rivers of blood flowed freely past his plump lips and poured down his throat. Your scent had been seductive, but your taste? It was better than any wine, better than ambrosia and nectar, it was addictive. So addictive he was unsure if he would be able to stop but at the same time aware he could not kill you because the rest of his immortal existence would be utter hell if he were unable to get another hit.Â
Kim Seokjin had a refined palette and high standards and few people met his expectations. But you? You were complete and utter perfection. And he deserved perfection.Â
His grip was too hard, unrelenting, crushing you against him. You wouldnât be surprised if he cracked your spine by accident. It was like he was afraid to release you, afraid that there was a chance you would be able to escape him, the apex predator.Â
But these thoughts were all uselessly whimpered in the back of your mind because the rest of your brain was completely flooded with euphoria. You had never felt so warm and tingly despite his cool hands in your entire life. It was almost like an out-of-body experience, the only thing keeping you grounded in existence was his tight hold. And there were other feelings as well, feelings you would have been ashamed of had your inhibitions not completely disappeared. Feelings that had your thighs clenching on either side of his waist, your heart beating pathetically fast, your pupils dilating, and your limp body helplessly rocking against him with his hands guiding and encouraging you.Â
This was completely out of character for you. You didnât climb into random men's laps and writhe against them eagerly like you were in heat. That had never been who you were, but the position you were in now clearly said otherwise.Â
You were growing lightheaded, not only from arousal and euphoria but from blood loss as well. You weakly pushed at his chest, your innate desire to survive prevailing over the pleasure that had relaxed your muscles.Â
âJin, please,â You whimpered, struggling to speak.Â
The vampire didnât respond or relent, his arms still wrapped around you like a vice. In desperation you wound your arms around his neck, your fingers tangling into his hair and tugging at the roots. The pull certainly took him off guard, his fangs sliding free from your throat and his perfect lips parting to release a startled moan.Â
His eyes were half-lidded but his red irises still burned brightly under the dim lighting, a perfect match for the blood that stained his lips and chin. He said nothing at that moment and from what very little you knew about him you could conclude that it was not often that he was at a loss for words.Â
Warmth trickled down your neck, rivulets of blood still flowing freely now without him there to catch them and that seemed to snap him back to attention. He slowly leaned forward, maintaining eye contact with you until he was level with your throat once more, his tongue darting out to lick up the trails of blood before tracing over the puncture wounds he had left behind.Â
Your hold on his shoulders did nothing to dissuade him, in fact, he quite enjoyed your weak attempts to keep him at an arm's length. Humans were so fragile, so weak, and he enjoyed that. Â
âRelax,â He breathed, âWe have a deal, remember? It would be a waste to drain you dry in one night.â
âAnd how do I know you donât just like to play with your food?â You asked.Â
âYou donât. Youâll just have to take my word for it, pet.â He smirked, tapping your chin with his finger.Â
âYouâre not going to kill me?â
âLetâs just say your sample was more than satisfactory, I have no reason to take back my word just yet.â
Yet. And yet, he was actually letting you go.Â
âIâll see to it that you make it home safely,â He began. But before he could finish speaking you were eagerly sliding off of his lap.Â
His hands caught your waist easily, one holding you steady and the other firmly grasping your chin between his thumb and forefinger forcing you to look him in his eyes.Â
âRemember, I call, you answer. As long as you abide by my rules we wonât have a problem.â
You nodded quickly, his words barely registering in your brain as your body took control. You would agree to anything that would keep you alive.
âDonât disappoint me.âÂ
~~~~~~
Days had passed since that night at Blood Sugar, days where Jin had not tried to contact you, days that you spent isolated in your house - a wave of agoraphobia so strong that the thought of passing a threshold frightened you to the bone which was beyond ironic considering your situation. But those days also led to you trying to convince yourself it had all been a bad dream.Â
If the encounter at Blood Sugar had in fact been real, you had little to show for it. The skin of your throat was smooth and untouched despite the fangs that you were certain had torn through it like paper. The only parting gift you had was the urge to sleep for days, a splitting headache, and a touch of soreness around your ribs where you were sure his arms had once restrained you.Â
Pretending it hadnât happened was easier on your mind. Your whole world had been turned upside down and the monsters you once thought to be the stuff of stories had been pulled from the shadows and abruptly thrust into the light. It was easier to pretend it was a dream. But you couldnât shake those blood-red eyes from your memories nor the show of pure strength that had been demonstrated against Junghee - her once perfect face that was so easily disfigured by the elder vampire.Â
You were afraid of death and the realization that it actually lurked at every eerie corner and you had sat in its lap like a contented house cat was enough to fry the connections in your brain.Â
And you could only pretend for so long. You could only ignore reality for so long.Â
It had been three weeks since you had seen him when he finally confirmed his existence in the form of a simple text.Â
âHungry, you know where to find me.âÂ
And that made your blood run cold. It was time to finally face reality, you had actually made a deal with a vampire and now he was cashing in on your promise. It was donate or die.Â
And in an absolute panic, you made a terrible decision. You placed your phone face down and retreated beneath your blankets like a small child hiding from the boogeyman.Â
Your phone did not cease to remind you that you had made a bad decision. The messages started sporadically - spread out throughout the hour. But Jinâs impatience grew as did the texts and calls. The eerie silence of your bedroom filled with a continuous buzzing as your phone continued to vibrate until you couldnât take it anymore and without looking at a single message you shut down your phone. But that only brought temporary relief.Â
You were begrudgingly pulled from the safety of your bed that day for an inspection your landlord had scheduled two days prior. There was no getting out of it and in your mind, it was a welcome distraction from the spiraling anxiety you felt when you thought about your powered-down phone.Â
You had no way of knowing that their presence would only worsen the problem that you had created.Â
You were generally a quiet person that kept to yourself around strangers, especially strangers that had a say in whether you continued living in your home or not. You practically stuck yourself to the walls as she inspected your home, and while your landlord was not necessarily a mean woman she wasnât very chatty. You two got along in those regards.Â
You were able to breathe when she gave you an awkward, tight-lipped smile, waved, and closed the door behind her.Â
As soon as she was gone you rushed back into your bedroom and just barely pulled your curtains aside to peer out your window and watch her retreat. But when you did look out that window you felt your blood run cold. She was still there, standing on the walkway, and directly in front of her was him. It was twilight out, the sun still desperately trying to cling to a purple and ochre colored sky. It was safe for him to be out. He was giving her a charming smile, one that anyone would fall over at the sight of. You could see him laugh and then say a few words but you were too far away to make out what they were. And then to your utmost horror, she walked away and he made his way up the front steps.Â
You were frozen, your muscles tense, and refused to move. You held your breath as you listened. There was no way that he could get in, you hadnât given him permission. But all of your hope washed out of you when you heard the front doorâs knob turn and the soft click of it leaving the frame. There were a few light steps and then the door shut once more.Â
He was inside the house.Â
You felt absolutely helpless as all you could do was wait for him to find you. There was nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, you were cornered.Â
It was only a matter of seconds before he did find you, a stern and angry expression clear on his face as he rounded the banister and the stairs and stood right outside the door frame of your room. His eyes were different now, they werenât the vibrant red that you remembered. They were a deep burgundy now, almost black as they stared back at you with intensity. You couldnât even make out the difference between his pupils and his irises. It was a bottomless, dark gaze.Â
âHow did you get in?â You asked, the words rushing out of you to your own surprise.Â
One of his dark brows quirked, whether it was in surprise or irritation you did not know.Â
âElaine let me in,â He said with a stomach-turning grin.Â
Your landlord. She technically owned the house, she could let him in even if you didnât invite him.Â
âI thought I made myself clear when we spoke, did I not?â He asked rhetorically, âI call, you answer, I feed, you keep your life. What part of that did your little human brain not comprehend?âÂ
âYou called me?â
âDonât play dumb with me.â
âMy phone died-â
âDonât make me repeat myself!â He snapped, his voice shockingly loud and incomposed.Â
You flinched back against the wall as he finally entered your room only to stop dead in his tracks not more than five feet away. His eyes widened, his nostrils flared, and his fangs descended on instinct.Â
The two of you stood there, both staring at each other and refusing to move, waiting for the other to act first.Â
Jin was the one to break the stalemate.Â
âYouâre on your period.âÂ
Your eyes widened in embarrassment, warmth radiating beneath your skin in response. He could smell it, that was the only explanation and that was a mortifying thought that had you pressing your thighs together, tight and closed.Â
He looked shaken, frazzled, and incredibly unlike himself. His rage was forgotten, his hunger controlling him. He was gripping the footboard of your bed, the skin of his knuckles stretched taut as he held onto it like he was keeping himself grounded.Â
âI want a taste,â He said, staring you down without a single blink.Â
It took you a moment to comprehend what he had just said, and as soon as you connected the dots you were anchoring yourself to the wall and vehemently shaking your head.Â
âNo, no way!âÂ
âYes,â
âNo! Thatâs messy and gross and I never agreed to do anything like that with you!
âIâm hungry,â He hissed, âAnd you expect me to just leave when you smell like fucking heaven?â
âYes, because everything about this is crazy! I donât know you, I never wanted to find you and now Iâm stuck with you until you ultimately decide to kill me so Iâm sorry that youâre hungry but itâs not even my problem in the first place!âÂ
That was the one upside to being on your period, the influx of hormones allowed you to become confrontational.Â
âIâll pay you double for a feed directly from the source,â He said with gritted teeth.Â
Jin was never one to bargain, usually he would leave a deal with far more than the other party. But this was something he refused to pass up. Vampires, very often, had little to no inhibitions especially when it came to sex. Sex was often a co-occurrence with feeding, and menstruation was the epitome of that. He didnât expect a pathetic little human like you to understand. You were fettered by mortal concepts that had forced you to believe you were to be a social pariah during that time, that it was âgross,â as you had said. Little did you know you were considered a delicacy in his world, ripe for the taking. And he knew how delicious you were when he fed from the vein, his mouth watered at the thought of what it would be like now.Â
Your silence to his proposition only frustrated him even more.Â
âDo you know how many people would die to be in your position right now? Iâve had women beg to be on their knees for me and Iâm offering to pay you to do the opposite.â
You were sure that he was telling the truth because he certainly was the most breathtaking man you had ever seen in your entire life. But what confused you was why he didnât just throw you down and do as he pleased. He was bigger than you, stronger than you, and far faster than you. If he wanted it as badly as he claimed, why was he bargaining with you? You could only assume it was the lingering effects of the era he had lived in. While he was an asshole, perhaps he took no joy in forcing himself on a woman in that manner.
And then there was the money. Rent wasnât cheap, that was for sure. And not many people could say that they were paid to be pleasured. It wasnât a terrible offer, and the last thing you wanted to do was displease a vampire that could kill you and had threatened to do so before.
Shit.Â
âYou wont hurt me?â You asked, your voice wavered.Â
âQuite the opposite,â He smirked. He knew that he had won.Â
A gasp of surprise parted your lips as he closed the distance between you, moving so fast that a gust of wind whipped up ruffling your hair and sending loose pages of paper tumbling from your desk. Your heart stuttered in fright, every minute you spent with him only served as a reminder of how dangerous he was. This arrangement you had with him was dangerous, you were toeing the line between life and death and that thought made your stomach turn in unease. He was a vampire, an apex predator, a creature that you had stopped believing in long ago, but also the undead embodiment of death. The very thing you feared the most. All it would take is one moment of frenzy, a lack of control and you would be left to bleed out in your sheets with no one to come and find your remains for weeks to pass.Â
You didnât want to die, but you knew he wouldnât let you live.Â
The touch of his cold fingers to your waist brought you back to him as he tugged you toward your bed, pressing you down onto the sheets before moving over you like an animal on the hunt. His eyes were pitch black, the veins beneath them prominent, and his fangs dangerously grazed his plump lips. He looked like a fallen angel, like Lucifer himself, the most beautiful outcast of them all.Â
An involuntary cry of fright left you as he moved impossibly fast once more, his face now level with the side of your head, the tip of his nose just barely brushing over your cheek as he chuckled. Even his breath was frigid.Â
âYouâre nervous,â He hummed in delight, âCareful now, we wouldnât want your heart to stop, would we?âÂ
He could feel the violent, rapid thumps of your heart where his chest was pressed against yours. It had been a long time since he had had a human like this, oftentimes he found it too annoying. They were fragile creatures and having to restrain himself was rather inconvenient, but he preferred his partners to be responsive when he had his way with them, unlike some of his kind who couldnât care either way. Was it still necrophilia if both parties were technically dead?Â
And while your heart was making itself known, you could feel nothing in response. His heart didnât beat like yours, it had gone silent long ago and that thought only reminded you of just how wrong this entire thing was. He was dead, but you couldnât wrap your mind around how he also seemed so very alive and while that scared you deeply, it also ignited a disturbing thought within you. But that thought was quickly halted when he noticed your lack of attention on him.Â
He hated that your attention wasnât on him.Â
An annoyed growl rumbled in his throat as he moved back, quickly going down the length of your body and ripping your shorts down your legs, exposing you to the cold air.Â
âJin wait-â It felt as if all the air was sucked out of your lungs as he ignored you, plunging his face directly in between your thighs.Â
He was unlike any of the partners you had had before. He did not take his time even though he evidently had plenty of it. He didnât warm you up with gentle words, pleasing touches, or lingering kisses. Instead, he was absolutely ravenous. It was just like he said, he was hungry. But you, on the other hand, had not been prepared in the slightest for how sensitive you would be.Â
You could only whine in discomfort as you tried to clench your thighs closed, one hand coming down to push at his shoulder. Your actions were completely useless, no matter how much force you could use it was like pushing against a concrete wall - he was immovable.Â
You could feel him growl in annoyance which only sent a shock throughout your body, your hips twitching and your shoulder blades digging into the mattress. His fingers were harshly pressing against your thighs, forcing them open wider and hooking your legs over his shoulders so that he could get impossibly closer to you.Â
âToo - too much!â You barely managed to get the words out, your body jolting from sharp bursts of pleasure.Â
âBe a good pet and take it for me,â He crooned, parting from you for a mere moment to look up at you - his bright crimson eyes cutting through the darkness that had steadily filled the room. âI thought you said you would do anything to keep your life?â
You couldnât explain the feeling that his words gave you, but the shame that lingered was recognizable. Shame that enduring pleasure to ensure your survival was an addictive cocktail of emotions.Â
You couldnât even form a response in time before he returned back to his feeding, his soft lips and firm tongue caressing you in a way that made you realize he was actively trying to make you feel good instead of solely focusing on gorging himself on your blood. You had no way of knowing that that just made the feed all the more enjoyable, the rush of hormones in your body only adding to the flavor. It was a flavor he already knew he was addicted to and while he was reluctant to admit it to himself, it was a flavor he could not live without.Â
And with each feed there were more problems to come. While he knew his blood, saliva, and venom were incredibly intoxicating to your weakened human state - he underestimated the effect you would have on him. With all of the hormones his bite coaxed out of you there was one pesky one that affected him: oxytocin. It was a bonding hormone, one that fostered a relationship between feeder and donator which was why so many vampires rarely fed from the same human more than once typically preferring to drain the body dry and dump it anywhere to rot.Â
He was willingly making himself vulnerable to you all in order to get another fix, another hit of your blood. And the worst part was, he didnât mind.Â
âJin!â You cried.Â
He was disgusted with himself, disgusted by the way his body shuddered and was aflame with tingles at the mere moan of his name rolling off of your lips. It was nothing special, countless others had done it before you, but he couldnât understand why it was you. Why were you special?Â
He could blame it on the damn hormone bond all he wanted, but this was only the second feed which meant, to his utmost horror, it was him. His interest in you, a human, was more than just superficial desire.Â
Oh, how far he had fallen.Â
He smelled your salty tears and he could even see the gleam of them as they rolled down the curves of your cheeks as your hips pitched forward, broken whimpers wracking your body that only served to drive him crazier. He could drown in you and it still wouldnât be enough.Â
And as soon as all of the tension within you snapped he was digging his fangs into the meat of your thigh, fresh, hot blood rushing over his tongue and down his throat. The blend was intoxicating for not only him but for you as well - the bite secreting venom that doubled the effects of all of his efforts that lit your brain and body on fire. You could become addicted to him just as easily as he was to you because that feeling, that feeling was indescribable and would never be able to be replicated by anyone but him. Just as he was chasing you for his fix, you could easily see yourself doing the same.Â
When you came too, you were startled by the gentle touch of his tongue to the puncture wounds on your thigh. It soothed over the cuts rhythmically, urging the skin to sew itself back together again. And while he worked, he stared. Bright, crimson red eyes were trained on you. His gaze dark and dangerous. Your body that had once been limp and relaxed immediately tensed once more. The knowledge that a predator was nestled into your lap was enough to reignite fear in your chest. You feared that the slightest twitch or breath would signal for him to lunge again, but this time the outcome would not be so pleasurable for you.Â
But Jin was a man of his word. You didnât die that night and your bank account was fed in due course.Â
This continued for the next six days. Whereas before it seemed like the vampire was able to abstain from feeding for as long as he wished, he had now become ensnared by a ravenous, bottomless hunger. And that was all the more frightening. But what was even more frightening was the way he began to change.Â
He was still rude, cold, and dominating. But he had become ever present. His closeness could be described as suffocating. The only solitude you could find was in the daylight, but the minute the sun began to set he was back and hungrier than before. And after theâŠfeeding, he would linger. He would touch you more often, his words still snarky but lacking their usual bite. It was like he was becoming comfortable around you. He was still insufferable, but undeniably comfortable.Â
It was that comfortability that encouraged you to entertain that dark thought you had tried to smother before. Your ever present fear of death could easily be solved, the answer to your problem mere inches away from you. You understood the gravity of the situation, what it would mean to become something like him. But you couldnât deny the truth that you could live with ending the lives of others if it meant you could sustain your own. You didnât want to die, you couldnât fathom dying, and you had an undead man at your disposal. If he was willing.Â
It was after your seventh session together that you decided to finally ask him. His cherry red lips were pressed against your throat, swallowing every last drop of blood that slid down your skin. Your neck stung and your body thrummed with ecstasy, your fingers cupping the back of his head on reflex - moving without your permission.Â
âJin?â You asked.Â
He hummed in response, visibly enthralled by the feed but letting you know he was listening anyway.Â
âI want to be like you,â You whispered.Â
A slick pop echoed in the room, his fangs pulled from your neck and retracted into his mouth, disappearing from sight. His eyes narrowed, his dark brows drawing together in confusion and distaste.Â
âNo,â He simply said, retreating to the foot of your bed.Â
âWhy not?âÂ
âBecause you would be useless to me, thatâs why. What good is a donor thatâs dead?â He scoffed.Â
You couldnât deny the ache you felt in your chest, the sting that âuselessâ struck against your heart.Â
âYouâreâŠyouâre going to grow tired of me eventually. Iâll get old, I wonât taste as good anymore. Then, Iâll be useless.â
âOh, I plan to savor every last drop that you can offer. I wonât let you go to waste like that, you are mine after all.â
âAnd whatâs that supposed to mean? Youâll just kill me before I go bad? Put me out of my misery before I can rot? Iâm a fucking human being not a piece of meat!â You yelled, angrily standing up from your bed.Â
You expected him to become enraged, to become violent. But if anything he was deathly calm, still, and silent.Â
âWouldnât that be a kindness,â he stood from the bed, now towering over you, âTo not have to grow older, to be in pain? To just stop here where youâre perfect, when youâre young and beautiful?â He said with a soft caress down your cheek.Â
âBut you could give me what I want,â You pleaded, âYou would never have to see me again, I could go far away and I wouldnât be your problem anymore.â
A frown pulled at his lips, frustration falling over his features, âItâs not as simple as that. You would be bound to me, there are rules about these things.âÂ
âRules? Like laws, is there someone in charge of you?â
âDonât bring that Twilight bullshit into this,â He hissed, running his hands through his hair in what appeared to be distress.Â
âThen I donât understand, why canât you do this for me? Iâve done everything youâve asked! Iâve given you everything you wanted so that I could stay alive! Why canât you understand that I donât want to die!â
âBecause you donât understand what youâre asking for!â He snapped.Â
In that moment, he was brought back to that fateful day all those years ago. Yoongi had warned him, he had tried to stop him and he hadnât listened. And now, he was being faced with a painful reminder of his naivety and arrogance when he stared back at you. Jin never regretted becoming a vampire. He never regretted his inability to grow old or the only way he was able to satiate his hunger. He enjoyed it. But if there was anything he didnât enjoy, it was being under the control of someone else.Â
âWe would be connected for the rest of eternity. Anything I ask of you, you have to do. You canât deny me even if you tried. And even if you ran, you would eventually come back whether you wanted to or not. I would be your sire, your creator, you couldnât hurt me no matter how badly you want to. We would be stuck together, do you understand?âÂ
If there was anything he was afraid of, which he would never admit to, it would be having to rely on someone like that. It would be loving you, obsessively loving you like he felt the desire to creep over him. While he refused to admit it, all of those feeds had done their toll. He could feel the tugs of a weak bond forming between you - begging to be strengthened by a little of his own blood and a swift death. If you stayed human, he could save you from the fate he suffered through. And if he killed you, then no one else could have you. It was insane, but to him it was incredibly logical.Â
You had been quiet for quite some time, your face pensive before you finally spoke.Â
âThat doesnât sound all that different from our current arrangement.âÂ
âUgh, youâre insufferable!â He yelled, grabbing the closest thing to him and flinging it across the room in a show of strength and anger. So this was what Yoongi felt like.Â
âYouâve exhausted your usefulness to me,â He spat in rage, âGood luck defending yourself on your own.âÂ
And just like that, he was gone. The only remainder of his presence was the broken chair that lay in pieces on the ground and the huge dent in the plaster from where it had hit.Â
You couldnât stop the sudden wave of tears that poured down your face. That had been your only way to cheat death, and he wouldnât give it to you after you had given him every piece of yourself that he had asked for.Â
The silence was loud, your sniffles and your pounding heart painfully apparent. But what was even more apparent, was the sense of paranoia steadily creeping over you.Â
What did you have to defend yourself from now that he was gone?Â
~~~~~~~
Jin was starving.Â
Even he was not so thick-headed that he couldnât see what he was doing. He was throwing a temper tantrum.Â
He had left you for a month now in what was supposed to be a break that would teach you a lesson. You werenât allowed to make demands from him, you werenât the one in control. But if there was anything he had learned from his pathetic plan, it was that you were very much in control.Â
You had managed to burrow your way into his unwilling, stone cold heart. A feat that no one in his human and vampiric life had managed to do. The very thought itself made his stomach turn. He had never had to depend on anyone else, he never wanted commitment in that sense. Yet here he was yearning for you, a pathetic little hermit. His pathetic little hermit.Â
He let out an audible groan, collapsing back against one of the velvet couches in the club. The blue and red lights flashed over his face, his stomach rumbled in pain. He had thought it would only take a week for you to break, just a few days before you apologized and begged for him to come back. But he had greatly underestimated you.Â
It had been a month and he hadnât fed. Everyone else paled in comparison, their blood sitting on his tongue like spoiled milk; he couldnât even manage to swallow a drop. And that was completely his fault. This was why he was warned not to keep feeding from the same source. You were bonded now and he was suffering because of it.Â
He had never felt so backed into a corner before. And the fact that it was all because of a human was just salt in the wound. He thought that time would sever the bond but in reality, distance had just made it grow stronger.Â
Even now he was certain that he could smell your scent sifting through the hazy air, itâs tendrils beckoning him to come find you.Â
It was the prick of his fangs against his lip and the sudden pool of saliva flooding his mouth that made him realize it was anything but a fantasy. You were there. A wave of satisfaction rolled over him, you had broken first in a stalemate that you were unaware of. He had won. But any excitement he felt about his win was quickly thwarted when he was reminded of the present danger. You, who smelled so heavenly, had once more crawled into a nest of vampires.Â
He quickly lurched to his feet, cutting through the crowds of vampires and humans alike in order to find you. You were in the most dangerous spot in Briar Hills and he could not protect you. His abstinence had greatly weakened him, he could only hope that no one else would be aware of that. He was the eldest there and he was in charge, that should be enough to keep everyone else away from you.Â
Well, all except one.Â
You hadnât even seen her coming, her or her âfriends.â You had just barely managed to step foot inside the bunker before she was ripping you back outside, moving so quickly that your head was spinning and your neck burned with whiplash.Â
You moaned in pain, one hand cradling the back of your neck while the other dug into the damp earth in an attempt to ground yourself from the violent pounding that vibrated all throughout your head. At first you were utterly dumbstruck, confused as to what exactly happened. But the swift kick of a pointy shoe to your ribs rolled you onto your back and allowed you to be faced with four pairs of glowing red eyes.Â
The pain in your head was quickly overshadowed by the hot shooting pain in your ribs. Your spinning head could just barely register the loud crack that had sounded when you were kicked. What looked to be an effortless, swift strike from her was enough to break your ribs.Â
âHello sweetheart,â A familiar, sickeningly sweet voice crooned.Â
It was her, that vampire from a month ago. The one that Jin had saved you from.Â
Cold shocks ran through your body as you panted, grabbing your side as you tried to scoot away.Â
âAh, ah, ah,â She teased, grabbing you by your ankle and roughly pulling you back. Another sickening pop echoed through the night as a violent scream tore its way free from your throat.Â
âNow, Iâm not letting you get away from me so easily this time. You really pissed me off, and now youâre going to give me what I want.âÂ
You had no time to react and nowhere to run to. She and her friends descended on you like a pack of hungry vultures. They ripped at clothing and jostled you around like a toy they didnât want to share. And all four of them dug into you. With Jin, there had been little to no pain. But this was the worst pain of your life. You could feel teeth digging into you, ruthlessly cutting through your flesh and ripping it apart. Hot, thick blood was pouring out of your wounds, drenching your skin and your clothes in an instant.Â
There was nothing you could do but scream, cry, and shake.Â
You were helpless and soon you were going to die. You had no doubt that they had every intention to bleed you dry. You felt like you were on the verge of passing out. Your greatest fear was suddenly becoming a reality and there was absolutely nothing that you could do about it. Death spared no one, especially you.Â
And for a moment you thought that death really had come for you because the pain was suddenly wrenched away.Â
You laid there, groaning in pain as you listened to what was happening. You could hear her low, sultry voice, the sounds of hits landing, and a deep, rumbling growl that shook you to your very core. It wasnât death, but it was a close second. Jin had found you.Â
You forced yourself to open your eyes and look, you struggled to turn your head but when you did your heart dropped. Half of her group collapsed, in various states of injury. But Jin was the worst. He was barely managing to stand and he looked so weak. His cheeks were gaunt compared to the last time you had seen him, the veins beneath his eyes prominent and exposed. But worse of all, he was coated in his own blood. It stuck to him like an oil spill, pouring from wounds that were trying to heal themselves albeit very slowly. He wasnât going to make it out of this; he was too hurt, too weak, too hungry, and outnumbered.Â
âI knew it,â Junghee giggled, her voice pitchy with murderous glee. âI could smell you all over her, you bonded with her!âÂ
Jin said nothing. He wobbled, his chest rose and fell rapidly with angered breaths.Â
âOh, how far youâve fallen, Jin,â She sneered, âSo high and mighty and look at you now. Youâre no better than the rest of us - in fact youâre weaker than us! Iâm so sick and tired of living under you and your rules, I think itâs time someone replaces that coven of yours. Itâs time for a new jurisdiction.âÂ
âIâll give you one chance to get on your knees and beg for forgiveness,â He said with a deathly calm voice.Â
âIâm going to rip you apart and burn the pieces. And when Iâm finished with you, Iâm going to drain your little pet dry.â She said with a cocky grin.Â
Jin hummed in response, his head slightly tilting back as he thought. His eyes seemed to glow even more intensely in the dark, a ring of light shining around his irises as he spoke.Â
âThatâs an interesting idea. Tear each other apart.âÂ
You stared in shock as they immediately obeyed his command. It was mind-control, he could compel individuals to do his bidding. How many times had he used it on you and you had gone on unaware of it?Â
All four of them turned on one another, rushing at each other with abandon. It looked like they were marionettes, like someone else was controlling their limbs and forcing them to do as he commanded. You watched as the four of them attacked each other, clawing at their friends and prying their limbs from their bodies. The sounds were horrific. You could hear them screaming, crying, gurgling, and begging for it to end as they tortured one another. Black blood sprayed and stained their hands and faces as they ripped each other apart limb by limb.Â
Your stomach rolled at the sight, your wounds flashed hot with pain, and your ribs and ankle throbbed in sympathy as they violently mutilated each other until they couldnât reach one another anymore - their limbs dismembered and useless.Â
You choked down the bile that threatened to escape your throat. They had tried to kill you, they were getting what they deserved. They were going to do the same to you and Jin.
Jin.Â
You caught sight of the vampire a few feet away from you. He had fallen to the ground after he had issued the command. His body was unnervingly still, his skin ashen and the sickliest pallor you had ever seen. He was dying, you were sure of it. That was something you had thought to be impossible for his kind but here he was proving you wrong. It was possible, but hard to do.Â
You felt a surge of adrenaline wash over you. You couldnât let him die, he was your one chance to avoid that very same fate. You needed him just as much as he needed you. If you could help him then he would owe you. You could get the immortality that you were desperate for.Â
You cried out in pain as you rolled onto your side and crawled to him. Each inch you moved felt like you were being stabbed along the way. Your body was crying in protest but you were on a mission.Â
When you finally closed the distance between you, you could breathe a sigh of relief. He was hurt badly, but he was still âalive,â if not barely.Â
You grabbed him by his shoulders and slowly, painfully, dragged him into your lap. Your body threatened to crumble beneath his weight as you guided his head to the open wound on your neck. This was a risk, a really big risk. You were hurt badly and you had already lost so much blood, but you were sure that he would be able to stop.Â
âCome on, Jin,â You encouraged him, cupping the back of his head with your hand, âCome on drink, you need to drink.âÂ
You felt a cool puff of breath on your neck, his nose slightly skimming over your pulse as the scent of blood pulled him out of unconsciousness. And as soon as he was awake, his predatory instincts took control. He lunged forward, wrapping you up in a vice like grip as he dug his fangs into the already open wound.Â
You hissed but held still, allowing him to get his fill. He was scarily inhuman at that moment. Jin had fed from you many times, but he had never been like this before. Silent, overbearing, and territorial.Â
Your eyes began to flutter, they were feeling incredibly heavy and it was becoming hard to keep them open. You had lost too much blood, you were still losing too much blood.Â
âJin,â You croaked, âYou need to stop.âÂ
He ignored you and continued drinking, only digging his fangs in harder to force more blood from your throat.Â
âJin please stop, please,â You cried, âYouâre going to kill me!â
When you realized he wasnât responding, that he was too enthralled by the feeding frenzy, you began to fight. You tugged at his hair, pushed at his shoulders, kicked at him with your good leg but it all was for nothing.Â
He let out an animalistic growl, squeezing you tighter before roughly shoving you to the ground and pinning your wrists above your head. He groaned in delight as your fighting ceased, as your blood flowed more easily into his waiting mouth.Â
You were fading fast, your visions steadily beginning to black out around the edges. He was going to kill you, and just like before there was nothing you could do about it. You were utterly helpless.Â
Your own desires would be your downfall. Just like Icarus, you had flown too close to the sun.Â
~~~~~~~
When Jin came to, he was confused.Â
He couldnât remember anything after he had ordered Junghee and her coven to dismember one another. But when he became aware, he quickly figured out what had happened. Their corpses were sprawled about, their limbs still occasionally twitching.Â
And you were there, scarily still in his arms with the remnants of your blood on his lips.Â
He didnât expect a wave of grief to wash over him. He hadnât felt that even when his own family died or when he watched them mourn the loss of a son that never truly perished. But the sight of you, your broken body limp in his arms was enough to force a choked sob out of him. It was painful, it was complete and utter despair.Â
It was in that moment that he realized he did love you. In some horrific twist of fate, he loved you. He once thought that he would be able to kill you, then no one else could have you. But he didnât anticipate the pain that it would cause him.Â
A soft, weak flutter halted all grief he felt. It was your heart. Your little human heart was still trying to beat. You could still be saved.Â
That was how he ended up here, with the only person he knew that could fix you.Â
âSo, this is what youâve been doing with all your free time.â Namjoon hummed, checking over your vitals.Â
Jin stayed quiet, nervously clenching and unclenching his fingers. At that moment, he understood what Yoongi went through. If he believed in karma, which he didnât, he would have been able to appreciate it. This was what he deserved after what he put Yoongi and the fledgling through. But Jin was far more determined to keep you human than his âbrotherâ ever was.Â
But it was undeniable that he could finally understand him. He finally knew what Yoongi was trying to protect him from all those years ago.Â
âJunghee really did a number on her. Iâve given her an awful lot of my blood to heal her wounds. It would just take one quick break, Jin. You said it yourself, this is what she wanted.â He mused.Â
âSheâs my pet, nothing more. Sheâs useless to me as one of us, I want to make her last as long as I can.â He said with a warning glare.
âItâs useless, you know, lying to me. I could smell it on you the second you came through the door. You bonded with her, sheâs yours now. Do with her what you will, but she will join us soon. Whether itâs you or me, well thatâs entirely up to her. But I have a feeling she would let any of us do it at this point.âÂ
âYou wouldnât-â
âOh, but I would. Remember this, everything I do is for our family. You helped me with Yoongi, you understood then what I was trying to do. You can keep playing with her for a little longer, but she will join us. Donât make me command you, Jin.âÂ
Jinâs back stiffened, that familiar tug in his brain was there. That feeling that he needed to fulfill his creatorâs wishes. And so, he bought himself some time.Â
âI donât think itâs her you need to be worried about,â Jin said, that cocky edge to his voice back once more.Â
âOh really?â Namjoon asked, leaning forward in interest.Â
âWhen was the last time you checked in on Hoseok?â
Namjoonâs brows furrowed in thought. Jin had got him, this was what he was good at - misdirection.Â
âHoseok too?â He mumbled to himself. âDonât you find it odd that this is all happening now? Yoongi and the fledgling, you and your pet, Taehyung and the little human he keeps in his studio, and now Hoseok? How interesting.â
He knew about Taehyung? But he hadnât said anything about Jimin or Jungkook. He didnât know everything. He had two more bargaining chips to buy himself more time.Â
âWatch over her, make sure she doesnât hemorrhage. Youâve done a good thing, Jin. Thank you.â Namjoon said before briskly leaving the room - his office that now served as a hospital for you.Â
He wasnât so sure that he had done a good thing. He was paying for what he had done to Yoongi now, what would come to him next now that he sold out Hoseok. And what about Jungkook and Jimin, what would happen when he revealed their secrets as well.Â
That was all he could think about as he waited for you to wake up. Namjoonâs blood was doing a thorough job. He was old and strong and because of that your body was mending itself incredibly quickly.Â
The only thing he hated was that you smelled like him. It was Namjoonâs blood in your body and because of that you were practically emanating his scent. Your normal heavenly essence was murky in the haze of his creatorâs and it would take some time for it to dissipate. He was going to have to live with it for the time being. For now, he needed to figure out how he was going to protect you from the fledgling and from Hoseok. One was hungry and the other was certainly going to be pissed with him.Â
But if he could keep you like this for a little while longer it was worth it.Â
Your heart monitor was starting to accelerate, the beeping became loud and frequent. You were awake.Â
He slowly raised his head to look at you and he felt his stomach drop. You were giving him the thousand yard stare, your frail body tense on the mattress. You were utterly and completely frightened of him.Â
Your name left his lips in a hushed whisper as he stood, moving closer to your bedside. You shrieked and huddled into the furthest corner that you could.Â
âStay away from me!â You yelled, crossing your arms over your chest in an attempt to block yourself off from him.Â
âIâm not going to hurt you,â he said, his tone the softest it had ever been, âI donât want to hurt you.â
âLet me go, I want to leave. I donât want to see you ever again, I want to go home!â You were rambling now, every frightened word running out of you with a gasp.Â
âYou canât leave, itâs too late now.â He said apologetically. He had never apologized before.Â
âI want to leave!â You screamed again, âYou tried to kill me! You said you wouldnât but you did! You lied, youâre a fucking liar!âÂ
âIâm in control now, thatâs never going to happen again I swear.â
âYouâre a fucking liar!â You screamed again, your words trailing off with a broken sob.Â
He had felt grief when he thought he had killed you, but now he was experiencing heartbreak. His first, genuine heartbreak. He thought seeing your lifeless body was bad, but this, this was somehow worse.Â
He was suddenly overcome with the urge to comfort you, to hold you. And so he tried. The second he picked you up you began to writhe, screaming obscenities at him and clawing at his skin. You were trying to do anything you could to get away from him.
The last time he had held you like this, held you this close, he had tried to kill you. Your body and mind were completely in survival mode now and you needed to get away from him.Â
But he wouldnât let you budge. He pulled you into his chest and wrapped you in a tight embrace, pinning your arms in between the two of you so that you couldnât hurt yourself while trying to hurt him. All you could do was scream and cry and writhe but eventually your body went lax when you realized it was pointless. There was no escape.Â
Your brush with death had only made you more frightened of it. You had met that dark, empty void and the void had stared back at you. What some might have found to be peaceful, you had found to be terrifying. And, as a result, you were terrified of Jin. He had brought you to that void and your body was certain he would escort you back.Â
âIâm sorry,â He finally said, the words not burning him like he once thought they would for the longest time. âIâm sorry.âÂ
You sniffled as you limply laid in his hold. You could feel the soft touch of his lips against your cheeks, collecting your tears as they brushed by in the lightest of kisses.Â
âNever again,â He mumbled, âI promise.âÂ
You whimpered once more, the word liar echoing in your mind.Â
âIâll give you what you want, I swear. Youâll never be that close to death again, Iâll keep you safe. Just give me time.âÂ
You slightly perked in interest. What you wantâŠwhat you want. Heâll give you what you want. You tilted your head up at the same time he went to kiss your forehead, only for him to gently kiss you instead. He froze for a moment, still as a statue as he processed what he had done before he did it again, and again, and again. It was like he had discovered a new insatiable hunger that he couldnât settle no matter how many times he tried.Â
âI love you,â He admitted so softly against your lips that you thought you had imagined it.Â
He loved you. He was going to give you what you wanted. You had almost died. He was a liar. Your mind was reeling.Â
âNo one else can have you, not even death can take you away from me; because youâre mine, remember?âÂ
