A familiar face, one that brings a tightness to his chest, a surge to his stomach. It's been a little while since they had last seen one another, Jack a busy man and Siebren focused on his work. They just happened to attend the same conference — Siebren has to wonder why Jack is here, perhaps looking to recruit some up and coming scientists? That seems the most likely. He wonders, too, if Angela is here helping him out.
They're sat near one another, though hardly have a chance to speak. Colleagues and fellow scientists are continuously speaking with Siebren, but his gaze keeps falling to Jack, distracting him from conversing with those who require his attention. Finally, there seems to be a reprieve in the need for his attention, and he looks over at Jack with a smile that doesn't quite reach his eyes.
There's no ill will between them, not really, but Siebren can't help the pang he feels in his chest when Jack looks at him. If Siebren's being honest with himself, he absolutely is a coward when it comes to this — he threw himself into his work, scared of the way Jack once ( and still does ) made him feel. And, as far as Siebren is aware, Jack's timing was all over the place.
He isn't sure where their conversation will go, but Siebren just wants to get it out there. "Let's not talk about hate when there's hell to pay for my cowardice and your bad timing." Maybe that isn't the best way to greet an old friend, as such, but Siebren is tired this afternoon, far too peopled-out to truly beat around the bush that may appear.
