Beilert Valance was created by Archie Goodwin and Walt Simonson in 1978 in issue #16 of Marvel's Star Wars (1977), predating The Terminator's (1984) cybernetic man with synthetic skin by six years. In 1992, Louise Simonson (m. Walt Simonson) and Rob Liefed created Cable, a time traveling cyborg character, clearly inspired by the Terminator.
