time travel shenanigans and Seg meeting the twins?
Astra and Alexa fell from the portal onto the floor with a thud. Astra swore at the pain from the fall as well as the shock of the fall actually hurting.
She rubbed her forehead, trying to think about all the reasons her powers werenât working. She looked up, only to be surrounded by a crowd of disheveled people, several of which had large guns trained on her and Alexa. The girls scrambled towards each other, trying to protect the other.
To their surprise, the crowd parted as a man walked towards them. He was tall, with dark hair and, to Astra, he didnât look much older than herself and Alexa. âWho are you and wha-,â his eyes widened in surprise, âwhy are you wearing my familyâs crest.â His hand shot out and he grabbed Astra by the collar, pulling her up to her feet before she could back away.
Astra jerked out of his grip, âIâm Supergirl, jackass,â she said, âand I donât know who the hell you are but this is my familyâs shield.â
She watched the young manâs expression shift from anger, to confusion, and back to anger âyouâre coluan. Brainiac sent you here, didnât he?â He charged towards her. Astra followed suit. Not completely prepared to fight without her powers, the stranger landed the first blow. His fist connected with her jaw. She recovered quickly and managed to kick him in the ribs. He tackled her to the ground. Astra struggled against him and kicked him off of her. He stumbled back and was caught by an older man who also wore the seal of the House of El.
Astra turned, ready to fight the woman who had gotten ahold of her sister during the scuffle, until the older man cleared his throat, âLadies, I believe this can be settled civilly.â
âOnly if she lets my sister go,â Astra growled.
The old man nodded the woman. She released Alexa, albeit reluctantly. Astra closed the gap between them and took Alexaâs hand, âI believe introductions are in order,â he began, âMy name is Val-El, and the young man,â he laughed, âthat you just gave quite a beating to is my grandson, Seg.â
âSeg-El?â Astra asked. She looked at Alexa, who looked as confused as Astra felt.
âHow do you know my name,â Seg asked, leaning towards them like he was preparing for Round Two.
âOur mom told us that her grandpaâs name was Seg-El,â the gears in Astraâs head began to turn, âwait, are we on Krypton?â
Of course, youâre on Krypton, how do you not know where you are,â the woman asked.
âWhatever. We were on Earth until Brainiac blasted -â
âSo you are working with Brainiac,â Seg shouted.
âThe hell we are! Weâre trying to stop that douche nozzle from bottling our home!â
âEnough!â Val-El shouted, and a hush fell over the room, âbickering like children will get us nowhere.â he took a deep breath, âNow, girls, you said that your mother had a grandfather named Seg-El. Is this true?â
Alexa nodded, âour motherâs name is Kara Zor-El, daughter of Zor-El, son of Seg-El.â
âMy sonâs name is Jor-El.â
âYes, you do have a son named Jor-El but thatâs our uncleâs father.â
âI mean, heâs our momâs cousin so weâre like, technically first cousins once removed but we just call him our uncle.â
âAstra, youâre not helping.â
âAstra,â Val mused, âthat is a common name here. And what about you, miss?â
âMy name is Alexandra. Everyone calls me âAlexaâ though. I was named after our momâs adoptive sister, sheâs a human. Do youâŠknow what a human is?â
âKnow what a human is,â Val chuckled, âwhy, we have one in our midst, one Adam Strange.â
âWhat is Adam doing here,â Astra asked.
âTotally, heâs a big fan of our uncle.â
âSuperman,â Seg said under his breath.
âYup, thatâs the one,â Astra said.
âNone of this explains why you look like Brainiac,â Lyta said.
Alexa sighed, âwhile our mother is kryptonian, you are correct,â she said, looking at Seg, âour father is coluan.â
Seg looked at them in disgust, âYouâre Brainiacâs daughters?â
Astra rolled her eyes, âNo, you dickhead, our dad isnât Brainiac, thatâs gross. Our dadâs just a regular coluan,â in a rare moment of forethought, Astra decided that telling them their dad actually was a distant relative of Brainiac probably wasnât the best idea.
âWhy should we believe anything youâre telling us,â Lyta asked.
Astra scowled at her but she knew she was right, if these people were determined to believe that she and her sister were working for Brainiac, or worse, there wouldnât be much they could do to convince them otherwise. But she still had an ace up her sleeve. She reached into her pocket, âhold your fire, folks,â she said, raising up her free hand in response to the crowd once again raising their weapons, âI just want dear old grandpa to look at something,â she pulled out her phone and held it out for Seg.
He eyed it suspiciously. âCan you relax for, like, two seconds? Itâs not gonna hurt you,â Astra said.
Seg snatched the phone from her indignantly. Astra pursed her lips, it was a long shot but she hoped that a photo of her, Alexa, and their parents looking like a normal, happy family would convince him that they were telling the truth.
He looked at the screen for what felt like an eternity. Val looked over his shoulder at Astraâs phone, as well. Though she cringed as he tentatively swiped his finger across the screen, she didnât need him to see whatever memes she had on there.
As he looked through the phone, Alexa spoke up, âwe werenât sent here by Brainiac to attack you. We donât even know if he sent us here on purposeâ
âWhat we do know,â Astra said, âis that weâre gonna get back home and kick Brainiacâs ass.â
She must have said the magic words because she could see that Seg was trying to hide a smile as he handed the phone back to her.
âWell,â Val said,âIâve heard, and seen, enough. I would like to help you get back to your home, to your family. What do you say, Seg?
âExcuse me,â Alexa said, âif Adam Strange is here, he could use his zeta-beam to send us home, couldnât he?â
âIâm afraid,â Adam said as he walked into the room, âthatâs gonna be a problem.â
