“They learned.” He scoffed with raised brows and finally drank some of the coffee. Theo kept the mug up to his face, enjoying the warmth and the smell. “I shouldn’t, I mean - they need to get ahold of families - they should know first.” His mouth pulled to the side. “How about your day? Good news would help.”
“There’s pie on the counter.” Mara called out from her spot on the couch when she heard the door open. She’d broken in (again) and decided that rather than being a normal sane human being and text Theo that she’d invaded his home, she’d just napped most of the day on his sofa with the only peace offering being a pumpkin pie she’d made sitting on the counter.
Opening his apartment door to find someone lounging on his sofa didn’t bother the sailor. He just smiled and hung up his coat once he knew who it was. “Did you make it?” Theo waved a short greeting and made a beeline for the pie, eager to begin enjoying it. “Who told you I’m a sucker for sweets?”
Mara doesn't bother to give Theo any warning before chucking a bag of candy at him from her spot in the window before crawling through herself. "Happy Halloween, I'm stealing a band-aid and some water and then going back to dealing with stupid people for a few more hours. That's payment for said band-aid and water and no I didn't steal it, someone gave it to me.'
“Okay, hey woah! And happy halloween to you too.” He caught the bag - barely - and fumbled with it since his hands were already full of popcorn and a drink. All items safely made it to the counter. “Excuse me how about we pause the deal in with crazy people for one hour and forty-five minutes? Anna’s answers didn’t really shed a whole lot of light on the situation. At least not at first. Crouching beside her, Theo could only crease his brows in confusion, rest his chin on a hand propped up on his knee. Mostly he was watching for signs of shock, dehydration, and anything else that he would need to treat for and possibly alert a hospital about.
“Yeah, we know who he is.” Now facts were beginning to fit together into a picture. He sighed, balanced on the balls of his feet while he scrubbed both hands across his face. No she really shouldn’t have done anything without at least alerting the Coast Guard. If nothing else they could have been on standby at a nearby port or just behind the horizon line, somewhere close enough to have come to help before someone found a piece of the boat. “In all honesty he probably did. It wouldn’t be the first time and you were beyond lucky.”Â
He moved lightly to his feet offered a hand to help her up. “Slowly. Let’s get you checked out, we’ll figure out what to do from there.”
