Rose glanced down at the watch on her wrist. The seconds passing for their ‘clear’ signal seemed drawn out. This was no mission like before, and somehow the superiors within SHIELD were confident that they could bring this HYDRA agent in. While the Avengers were tied with another mission, it was up to Rose to see that this succeeded. Her wrist flicked and the digital numbers illuminated. No word. It was then that Rose made the decision to enter an uncleared state.
“You ready?” Rose slammed the loaded sixteen round magazine into the hilt of her gun, satisfied with the secured click.
“Ready.” Replied Alex as he withdrew his own gun.
Rose curled her fingertips along the grooved hilt of her .44 and looked over to Alex. “Remember the plan. If anything goes haywire, make sure you and the others escape. If anything, I should be able to hold off until help is here.” Her head tilted towards the field. “They are watching, they are just waiting for the signals.”
Before Alex could respond, Rose nodded towards the opened door. “At least let me go first,” He teased. “You always get to have fun.”
Alex began to move ahead of her, and Rose followed behind, her firearm lifted and held secure in the grip of her hands. The building was dark, and she knew it was on purpose. Faint light flickered from the old light fixtures that hung above their heads as they continued to tread. The activity of the HYDRA foot soldier quickly caught SHIELDS attention. The agent moved swiftly, and his kills were clean. He was dangerous and needed to be stopped. Operation Extraction was developed quickly by Fury and the executive council. Not that capturing the agent would add value, Rose was unsure of their intention. They just stated they wanted him alive.
As they grew deeper into the abandoned facility, Rose could feel the adrenaline starting to course through her veins. They were on the hunt and apart of that was simply thrilling to her. That’s when the crippling scream of one of their own echoed sharply down the halls. Rose gripped the hilt tighter and began to chase after Alex as he began to run towards the noise.
“Alex!” Rose hissed, grabbing his wrist to tug him back. “Return to the entrance and go signal. I’ve got this,”
“There you guys are!” Harner’s chest heaved as took deep breaths, his cheeks deep red. “We’ve got trouble. He’s got Adrian!”
Blue eyes scanned the other agent quickly amongst the dim hallways. “Where is he?”
“Down the hall to the right,” He gasped. Rose took a breath. “Go to the front and signal. Alex and I will take it from here.”
Rose looked at Alex as the agent began to run from them. She took a deep breath and nodded her head. With two fingers, she signaled for Alex to go around one way and for her another. As the pair split, Rose gripped the hilt tighter as she began to move. In the hallway she could see a single room illuminated with light, the light coming across the hall. It was a trap, and she knew it, but Rose knew that she needed to save her soldier. One by one, she began to tread softly towards the door.
