With Martyn, it’s because of how tragic it was. He put all his trust that this would work and at worst he would be stuck as a vampire for the rest of his “death” but it backfired so horribly and he died in the arms of a doctor of all people.

Rens because it’s so fucking funny in such a dark way. Like yeah it’s tragic cause he trusted these people with his and his best friend’s lives and then his best friend dies right in front of him after saying “see you in a minute”. And so that rekindles his hatred of vampires and so he has a last stand to try and kill those that betrayed him (so he believes)

But it’s also hilarious that during the fight, Ren was giving his all, swinging left and right, the vampires barely fighting back and trying to talk him round.

15 years before the plot of Vampires, Morcant rolls up to a church. Supposedly, this is where Reiah and Alaric’s son is being raised. He’s looking for one Abolish Veylocke.

The kid isn’t hard to pick out. Black hair with the slightest curl to it that looks oh so much like his mother. But when Morcant goes to meet the kid, to tell him who he is, to sign the adoption papers…he’s not alone.

There’s a blond kid, a fair bit younger, practically attached to the ten year old. Bright green eyes that keep watching Morcant as he paces across the room. When he signs the papers, the sister tells him that the boys won’t let him separate them- so he doesn’t.

and fifteen years later, Abolish Veylocke walks into Oakhurst trailed by his adopted brother. Martyn Veylocke.

He can’t help but speculate about who he had been before his arrival. Those memories remain lost to him, as they are to Apo. What must have happened in his life to turn him into this? Probably something awful, like the rest of Oakhurst. None of them arrived clean, they’d all walked in carrying some burden. If he had one, it must be nice to not remember it.
