i’m going insane
me when im crazy and reimagine the scene and martyns not a stupid tattletale
hey did you know that in the finale when Martyn let Apo drink his blood he didn’t know that a vampire could drink a human’s blood without turning them. And as soon as he did he was nervous but immediately willing. He was the one who walked up to her. She asked, and he approached.
He trusted her.
He’s uncomfortable, but he’s not the one who voices overt disgust. That’s Apo. That’s Ren.
And additionally—afterwards, Apo expressed they didn’t like doing that, and would like to avoid it if possible, meanwhile Martyn was reasoning that as long as the humans had food to regen the health and hunger they could keep feeding her.
He was willing to let Apo bite him multiple times if it was at all necessary.
Awkward, but genuine.
Practical, but intimate.
They were gonna take care of her. Martyn was gonna make sure Apo was fed and alright.

[day 21]
...aaaaaaand we're right back to feeding the vsmp brainworms.
I've been thinking about how cc!Martyn played as a vampire during the community event, and the implications it has for how the series could have gone. Between what he's openly expressed about how much of a problem he would've been had he been turned, and how gleefully he took to playing the role of an absolutely sadistic vampiric menace during the event, I'm struck by the realization that v!Martyn almost certainly would have wanted to remain a vampire if he had been turned.
There are a number of implications that stem from this idea, but true to form, the only one I care about that much is how this would have affected my beloved Appletree. Imagine for a moment that instead of falling off the bridge, Martyn is turned by Scott, and he's present at the little reunion the vampires have near the end of episode 3. He sees and speaks with Apo there, and she's able to convince him to return to the town.
Would Apo have been less psychologically battered by her vampirism if Martyn, an everyman with little to no emotional baggage to speak of, had been going through it alongside her and had been able to support her in that way? I think she would have: Martyn's speech to Ren before his death always struck me as shockingly insightful and comforting for a vagabond like v!Martyn, and I could see his down-to-earth nature doing a lot to soothe the bundle of doubts and anxieties that is v!Apo.
And so many subsequent ideas flow from this idea. Would the militia have been more successful if they'd been truly open with one another, something only made possible by the confidence that a pair of vampires gave each other? Would Martyn have helped Apo successfully kill Scott so she could be cured? Would Martyn, a man with no home and no destination, have ended up going with Apo in the end? I'm never getting over this, guys...
