Friction utility time
Picked up these utility blades on a whim. Mainly because I like weird shaped blades, though the fact it looks like a Batarang is definitely a plus.
Turns out the recurve is amazing for cutting boxes, packages, pretty much anything.
Will say they are more expensive than the usual I use.
New Irwin blades
Finally got my hands on some Irwin Bi-Metal utility blades for my Gerber EAB Pocket Knife. The Irwin blades are definitely sharper than the blade the EAB came with. One noticeable difference is the blade thickness. The default EAB blade is thicker than the Irwins, making it better if you want to re-sharpen your utility blade instead of replace it. The Irwin blades passed my paper cut test with flying colors, easily gliding through the paper at an angle. The default EAB blade completely failed, resulting in crumpled or ripped paper. If I'm going to reuse the EAB default blade, it's only going to be after I sharpen it. Just for comparison, I tested my Swiss Army Knife classic again. The blade definitely got duller since the last time I tested, and resulted in a few failures. The SAK blade still manged to cut through, but with more resistance than the Irwin blades. My new knife just got an upgrade.Â
