I posted this on Facebook, but I'd love to hear people's reactions/comments on it! WARNING- This is going to be long. Alright, so tonight I went to see an incredibly amazing and talented group that many of you may know, Pentatonix, at State Fair. I was fairly high up and far to the right of the stage, but that wasn't going to stop me from having a good time. Unfortunately, although the concert was PHENOMENAL and I'm so so happy I was able to see them live, I can truly say that I have never been more disappointed or frustrated with a concert atmosphere and the audience members thus far in my concert going life. I really enjoy this group and was lucky to have gotten the tickets since it was a SOLD OUT show. I was pumped to be able to stand up and sing and dance and have an amazing time with some awesome friends... but that's the farthest from what happened. The opener, Us the Duo, wasn't very well known, so I was fine with people sitting and not being fully engaged with them despite the fact that I was. What I was not happy with was the fact that once PTX came out there was still such a minimal reaction from the crowd. Of course, I wanted to stand, like I have done at every other concert that I have been to, but NOBODY around or behind me was, so I didn't want to block anyone or start anything or whatever. Fine, I can handle sitting. Then, as the concert started and the first song is done, still NO energy, NO singing, NO clapping along during the song, NO dancing or movement or excitement from anyone around us. As the concert continued, this remained the case. While my friends and I on the the other hand, were singing along loudly, dancing in our seats, screaming for the band, standing up at times to applaud or whatever else. We were genuinely enjoying ourselves and were appreciating the talent of the group performing for us. Even for the encore, NOBODY else stood up besides us, and THAT really angered me. People throughout the concert would give us dirty looks or say stuff while we were getting excited as if WE were the ones out of place or in the wrong. I don't know if it's just me, but that absolutely baffles me. If you are going to purchase tickets to a SOLD OUT concert and take away the opportunity for an actual fan to come and see them, why wouldn't you be trying to engage with the concert and enjoy yourself? Why would you just wanna sit there absolutely emotionless during such an amazing concert? The members of this group are so incredibly talented and were exuding so much energy on that stage, and deserve an audience who is going to appreciate and enjoy their music and what they are putting out. My opinion is if you're going to go to a concert, ENJOY IT- dance, sing, scream out to your favorite band member, cry, connect with the music, appreciate the hard work that has gone into the preparation, and HAVE FUN. My ability to enjoy the concert the way that I wanted to was definitely taken away from me, and I just don't think that should happen. Next time you're buying tickets to a concert, make sure you actually want to be there. Overview- amazing concert; both PTX and Us the Duo were incredible and every single member is so so so talented and I wish they were appreciated more. Terrible audience; at least by me, and that really put a downer on the show.
