Brian Thompson Case Takes Major Turn as Luigi Mangione Pleads Guilty in Federal Court
The case surrounding the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson has taken a dramatic turn.
On August 14, Luigi Mangione pleaded guilty to federal stalking charges resulting in death and admitted in court that he shot Thompson in Manhattan in December 2024.
Thompson, 50, was fatally shot outside a Manhattan hotel while in New York for an investor conference.
Mangione's federal sentencing is scheduled for December 18, and prosecutors are seeking a sentence of life in prison.
However, the case isn't over.
Mangione still faces a separate New York state murder case, with jury selection scheduled for September 8. His lawyers are seeking to have the state case dismissed on double-jeopardy grounds following the federal guilty plea.
